I'm used to seeing the Wales Interactive logo attached to an FMV game!
Oh my goodness... what a terrible trailer! Most of it is running along and dashing in drab and samey looking environments. Gameplay is king, of course, so we will see, but that trailer does it few favours, I think.
@Ooyah agree. The trailer does it no favors, lifeless. Which given how much skill and effort must go into hand painting a game!
@KIRO
You're right, that is very curious. It is hand painted, yet it looks much less vibrant than other games. Maybe they just aren't very good painters? 😆 But the whole thing looks so... mechanical. Lifeless, as you say.
Looks a bit lame and jerky. Run, hack, run, hack, bored...
Reminds me of that Polish-developed game that was reviewed on here not too long ago. It featured a knight made of stone or something.
@admwllms Castle of Heart. I got it in the sale after they patched and improved it. Still yet to finish it though,and probably will get lost in my current backlog plus everything else that is coming out too
And again the inflationary use of "Metroidvania style"...games dont get better just by saying/writing it!
............Metroidvania....................... So much use of the word metroidvania................ aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Metroidvania .... roguelike..... retro inspired......... aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh
So, this game released April last year on Steam.
Rather solid art, but watching the floaty animation, lacking proper oomph and character, frankly makes me a little nauseous.
With a release date as close as the case is, it's unlikely to change, meaning it might be a pass for me.
@MagicEmperor
Well, they're back to publishing other studios' stuff.
They brought Typoman to Switch, and now they're bringing this.
Kinda looks like Golden Axe on some bad drugs.
Looks really really dull and slow and murky and brown.
@EightBitMan I think disgust is a bit of an overreaction.
'Hand-Painted Action RPG' caught my interest immediately but, like others have said, the game looks awful in the trailer.
The description to this game sounded amazing and was an instant buy for me.... and then I watched the trailer. Ouch
It looks so stiff and bland. Geez. The art is great but the animation, if you can even call it that, seems to just be completely by the numbers with no life in it at all. I know how to do modular animation, putting together characters in paper doll fashion, but the animation can still look like something lively and energetic (for instance, I made the character in my avatar that way).
I'm legit frustrated that someone thought what they showed in that trailer would make for a visually impressive and enjoyable game.
It took about 6 seconds of that trailer, for me to be overwhelmed by a tidal wave of NOPE!!
Just get Salt and Sanctuary, a game that actually features an open world. Levels are passé, like FMV games, or talent shows.
Ugh. I watched the trailer and was not impressed at all. It looked very floaty... couldn't get behind the motion of it all at all. Perhaps the gameplay is good, so I won't judge it harshly, but I'm not impressed so far.
@Pod Thanks! I didn’t know that!
Honestly, this looks pretty fun. I love the aesthetic.
I don’t like the term Metroidvania either. It’s easy to say, and I understand... but Symphony of the Night was a Castlevania game that borrowed heavily from Super Metroid. It’s Metroid with a few tweaks and a coat of gothic paint. Both games, SOTN and Super Metroid are all time favorites for me, but lets go easy on that term.
