Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Maddening Stance On Retro Gaming Is Driving Me To Piracy

PanurgeJr

@kingofthesofa That's precisely the thing that annoys me the most when I hear complaints about the lack of a Virtual Console. One look at any weekly sales chart for Wii U or 3DS and it should be obvious that if there were a VC for Switch indies would never have found the success that they did, and that the Switch wouldn't be where it is now, which is arguably the best place to play indie games. If NintendoLife publishes a "Soapbox: The Lack of a Virtual Console Has Made The Switch Nindie Heaven" I might start taking them seriously again, but until then I can only hope Nintendo UK sees them advocating piracy and responds accordingly.

Re: Limited Run Games Set To Release First And Only Wii U Game, Lost "A Lot" Of Money Making It Happen

PanurgeJr

@MaSSiVeRiCaN I guarantee that they are not willing to lose money just to keep a promise. What I'm guessing happened is that they began the process with the hope of making a profit but eventually discovered that they'd both underestimated the costs involved and overestimated the sales they'd get. They're going to lose money, but at this point they can't change their decision to begin. What they can do is to decide whether or not to continue, and clearly they feel that they'll sell enough to cover the costs to finish, which will recoup some (though not all) of the money, while canceling means they recoup nothing. It's basic business. Any line about keeping their word is just PR for those who might fall for it. So don't worry; if you support this game you're not supporting bad decision making.

Re: Disgaea 1 Complete - The Best Way To Rediscover This Turn-Based Tactical Triumph

@Agramonte Something can be worth it at $19 but not $50, but at either price it's either good or it's not. Right now I'm playing Dishonored 2 that I bought on eBay for $10. Do you honestly believe my experience of the game is different than if I'd paid $60 at launch? The decision to buy is all about expectations, but once that decision is made what was spent has no influence on the experience. A review which focuses on the experience will accordingly ignore price. What it will do is to allow the reader to better form expectations, who will then use the additional information of price to make the purchase decision.

@Chrismakem If people are saying price is an important part of the review, they're wrong, because they don't understand what a review is. Cheaper doesn't make a game better. Cheaper will make the game more worth buying, because that's true of every economic good. Quality and price, though both contributing to a person's decision to buy, are independent of each other, and accordingly reviews should ignore price.

Re: Opinion: What Did You Think Of Today's Nintendo Direct?

PanurgeJr

@Mars If I'm wrong feel free to correct me, but as I understand it devs can't opt out on PS4 or X1, which suggests that the implementation of a system by the platform holder makes it mandatory, which is just silly. Considering I've played Switch games with achievements devs clearly have the option to do it themselves, which is all I'm saying should be the way things are.

And if you find getting a bronze trophy for, I dunno, slipping on ten banana peels to be memorable, well, you do you.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Races To Third Place In Individual UK Charts But Can't Stop Spider-Man

PanurgeJr

@KingdomHeartsFan If his profile is still live, that's a site programming issue. Both the mods here and him there have said he's banned.

@BlueOcean To call him very critical is quite the understatement. And he provided charts simply for the recognition. At GN there are three people who post stories. RMC, who runs the site, thanks people who send in links by name; the other two don't. He once basically said that not being thanked by name was an insult, and vowed to never send in anything else while RMC wasn't running things. He really should be running his own site. Not that anyone would go there.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Races To Third Place In Individual UK Charts But Can't Stop Spider-Man

PanurgeJr

@Razer He got banned for the same reason he got banned here--the site decided they'd had enough of him. Just like here he: a) had a set of complaints that he insisted upon repeating every day, b) would report anybody for anything that looked like trolling, no matter how innocuous or playful, c) would call people liars when they disputed him, and d) would occasionally attack the people who ran the site. He once accused someone there of invading his privacy by...quoting something he'd written here, as though searching for something posted publicly were an egregious offense. He's great for people who enjoy trolling. For sites trying to prevent trolling, not so much.

Re: Nintendo Direct Delayed Due To Powerful Earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan

@F1R3F1Y You clearly just don't get it. Mocking people sending thoughts and prayers is fine when the target is, for example, a Republican senator who refuses to take any action in the wake of continued gun violence, like the shooting in Cincinnati today. Mocking people with an emotional connection to a place, even though they've almost certainly never been there, is not fine, unless you believe being an [redacted] is fine.
