@Crono1973 Neither may benefit Nintendo, but one harms them; they're not equivalent, and you seem to be arguing something based on equivalence. Perhaps I misunderstood your attempted point.
@Crono1973 And not all situations occur in which it's okay to do so. Being entitled to buy used doesn't imply being entitled download ROMs with no remuneration for the copyright holder.
@Crono1973 That's a wildly asinine argument that doesn't apply in the least. Those are resale rights, which are well established. ROMs aren't being resold.
@EightBitMan I truly find it hysterical how worked up you get. Like, we've had diehard trolls before, but your obsession with Nintendo takes your trolling to a new level. Congrats, man--or whatever the proper word for "male troll" is.
@EightBitMan Could you at least not lie while you troll? It's very clear that no matter whether or not it's true, saying the port is inferior makes you happy, not sorry.
I'm all for physical releases, but I wish people would get the difference between them and digital right. Most people wanting physical don't realize their reasons aren't actually significant.
@subpopz Fine. I shall grant that my initial snarky, Internet-style comment was phrased as a general question and did not imply that I was specifically thinking about tribalism at the time. I'd like to think that my follow-up clarified that, but if not, I shall attempt to rephrase my thoughts in such a way as to convey some of the context behind them:
I don't understand why so many gamers exhibit tribalistic behaviors when it adds nothing to the gameplay experience.
For I assure you that more people care about numbers for bragging rights than for what they say about the health of the market.
I apologize for commenting in a style appropriate to the forum.
@OorWullie The question of how profitable appealing to various categories of gamer is is obviously an important question, and I don't have anything approaching an answer for it. But I know enough math to know that your estimates of how large each group is can't possibly be correct. The number of games people buy is most likely a variant of the Poisson distribution, which would mean there's no way core gamers make up 15% of the market, nor that the casuals who are buying a mere handful of games is as low as 50%. 1%/80% feel like better guesses.
@TheDanslator Very true. I often point out how unrepresentative people who populate fan sites are of the average console owner, and it is no less true in this case. The average console owner not only doesn't care, they aren't aware that any of us do.
@WinterIceFox @subpopz Not related to my point. While I agree that having a low install base will lead to fewer games, which certainly happened in the case of Wii U, that's not what gamers are thinking about when they celebrate how many consoles their favorite manufacturer sold. No Microsoft fan is worried X1 won't get as many games as PS4, just as no Sony fan made their choice because they worried they wouldn't have enough games otherwise.
As for the Wii U droughts, I never noticed them because a) the Wii U did, in fact, have enough games for anyone who considers indies as worthwhile as AAA, which I do, b) I had a 3DS and PS3 to provide any other options I might desire, and c) I actually do other things too, like watch my anime collection, which now numbers over 100 series, or, you know, read a book once in a while. The Switch will have plenty of games no matter how many units are sold. Hell, there are enough games out right now to last until whatever its successor will be is launched.
While I don't hope they fail to hit that target, I don't get why so many gamers care how many consoles manufacturers sell. It's not like I enjoyed Splatoon less because the Wii U bombed, or enjoy Splatoon 2 more with every Switch sold.
@Agramonte It's probably coming. Someone involved with it tweeted a picture of CoL on the Switch, and in the background is a piece of paper on which you can clearly make out "f Light II".
@Stocksy I was going to say something similar about @EightBitMan, but you beat me to it. I'm reminded of something I once heard, obviously overstatement, but which makes a good point. Nintendo makes games for adults that look like they're for kids, unlike many AAA games, which are for kids but look like they're for adults. The 8bitster is clearly a kid pretending to adulthood.
@Razer You are exactly correct. The avoidance of any reply whatsoever indicates what ochobit's true intentions are: to attempt to spread his gospel, and to disparage those who do not unconditionally accept him. It's more insidious than the usual trolling. Don't worry; it's just a matter of time before the mods have enough of him.
@Camilla I'm sure he gets reported enough. Besides, I find it beneficial to see what I would have become had I not grown out of thinking everyone should like what I did.
@EightBitMan Dude, you're not free. The amount of time you've spent screaming about Nintendo can only be the result of a powerful need to; you are completely addicted to trolling.
You're also a liar. I remember you said you were out of here, and that comment doesn't exist anymore. You've edited it or deleted it. Either way, saying you only edit to provide additional commentary is a lie. One that assumes everyone here is paying no attention, so it's also insulting.
It's always ironic when people like @jn2002dk try to push their social agenda because their feelings got hurt. I'm guessing he was a proud member of Gamergate.
@MichaelHarvey One could give the same admonition to someone who doesn't see the problem in dismissing a Japanese company for acting Japanese. I don't recall seeing any criticism of American companies for focusing on America.
@Agramonte Interesting how you spin those numbers (and throw in some casual racism) to fit your narrative, rather than thinking that just maybe they explain why Nintendo--which is a Japanese company, after all--focuses on its home market.
@jerichofr I don't believe for a second you've been gaming for forty years. Anyone that old would have long since grown out of the immature mindset you've demonstrated.
@EightBitMan Are you playing troll bingo with friends right now, trying to get various responses to fill out your board? That's the only explanation I can think of that doesn't involve you waiting for your mom to tell you to come up and have lunch.
@Agramonte You clearly have no idea what @Indielink said, but that's not surprising, because you have no idea what you are saying. Every time you say that people using the 8 bit style are faking it you are insulting the current developers who choose to work with it, dismissing their work and implying that they are simply exploitative salesmen. Noting Kojima's career path doesn't change that. Or have anything to do with anything, actually.
@Agramonte You didn't express an opinion. You attempted to "prove" that something people like--the 8 bit aesthetic--doesn't exist, with the obvious implication that they're wrong for doing so. When you limit yourself to expressing opinion I'll accept it as such.
As for your guarantees about what techniques artists use, well, I guarantee there are artists using every technique out there, including salt and silver.
@Quarth I had the same thought that 8bitman was really 8bitboi. Our (least) favorite gator wouldn't shut up about his X1, so if they are the same person he knew remembered to mix up the details of his life, and at least deserves credit for that.
@tedko One negative comment does not trolling make. An endless stream of them does. Nincompoop qualifies. His comments are readily available to check if you don't believe me.

Re: The Gardens Between Brings Its Gorgeous Puzzle Adventure To Switch This September
Another one for the backlog. Looks intriguing enough to immediately jump to the high priority portion.

@subpopz Still not related. I was speaking to the tribalism of gamers; you replied speaking about the health of industry. Separate concepts.
