Re: Japanese Analyst Predicts Switch Sales To Surpass Nintendo's Forecast

@subpopz Fine. I shall grant that my initial snarky, Internet-style comment was phrased as a general question and did not imply that I was specifically thinking about tribalism at the time. I'd like to think that my follow-up clarified that, but if not, I shall attempt to rephrase my thoughts in such a way as to convey some of the context behind them:

I don't understand why so many gamers exhibit tribalistic behaviors when it adds nothing to the gameplay experience.

For I assure you that more people care about numbers for bragging rights than for what they say about the health of the market.

I apologize for commenting in a style appropriate to the forum.

@OorWullie The question of how profitable appealing to various categories of gamer is is obviously an important question, and I don't have anything approaching an answer for it. But I know enough math to know that your estimates of how large each group is can't possibly be correct. The number of games people buy is most likely a variant of the Poisson distribution, which would mean there's no way core gamers make up 15% of the market, nor that the casuals who are buying a mere handful of games is as low as 50%. 1%/80% feel like better guesses.

@WinterIceFox @subpopz Not related to my point. While I agree that having a low install base will lead to fewer games, which certainly happened in the case of Wii U, that's not what gamers are thinking about when they celebrate how many consoles their favorite manufacturer sold. No Microsoft fan is worried X1 won't get as many games as PS4, just as no Sony fan made their choice because they worried they wouldn't have enough games otherwise.

As for the Wii U droughts, I never noticed them because a) the Wii U did, in fact, have enough games for anyone who considers indies as worthwhile as AAA, which I do, b) I had a 3DS and PS3 to provide any other options I might desire, and c) I actually do other things too, like watch my anime collection, which now numbers over 100 series, or, you know, read a book once in a while. The Switch will have plenty of games no matter how many units are sold. Hell, there are enough games out right now to last until whatever its successor will be is launched.

@Stocksy I was going to say something similar about @EightBitMan, but you beat me to it. I'm reminded of something I once heard, obviously overstatement, but which makes a good point. Nintendo makes games for adults that look like they're for kids, unlike many AAA games, which are for kids but look like they're for adults. The 8bitster is clearly a kid pretending to adulthood.

@Razer You are exactly correct. The avoidance of any reply whatsoever indicates what ochobit's true intentions are: to attempt to spread his gospel, and to disparage those who do not unconditionally accept him. It's more insidious than the usual trolling. Don't worry; it's just a matter of time before the mods have enough of him.

Re: Diablo III Eternal Collection Officially Announced For Nintendo Switch

@EightBitMan Dude, you're not free. The amount of time you've spent screaming about Nintendo can only be the result of a powerful need to; you are completely addicted to trolling.

You're also a liar. I remember you said you were out of here, and that comment doesn't exist anymore. You've edited it or deleted it. Either way, saying you only edit to provide additional commentary is a lie. One that assumes everyone here is paying no attention, so it's also insulting.

Re: Feature: How The Messenger Aims To Fuse Ninja Gaiden, Metroid And Castlevania On Switch

@Agramonte You clearly have no idea what @Indielink said, but that's not surprising, because you have no idea what you are saying. Every time you say that people using the 8 bit style are faking it you are insulting the current developers who choose to work with it, dismissing their work and implying that they are simply exploitative salesmen. Noting Kojima's career path doesn't change that. Or have anything to do with anything, actually.

Re: Feature: How The Messenger Aims To Fuse Ninja Gaiden, Metroid And Castlevania On Switch

PanurgeJr

@Agramonte You didn't express an opinion. You attempted to "prove" that something people like--the 8 bit aesthetic--doesn't exist, with the obvious implication that they're wrong for doing so. When you limit yourself to expressing opinion I'll accept it as such.

As for your guarantees about what techniques artists use, well, I guarantee there are artists using every technique out there, including salt and silver.
