Re: Random: One Metroid Fan Has Fixed Other M For All Time

Panopticon

Other M is like bad pizza. At the end of the day, it's still pizza. Other M is the "worst" Metroid, but it's still Metroid.

My biggest issue was how things were unlocked. Instead of finding missiles, Adam goes "okay I guess I'll allow you to use your missiles now" for this specific new development that has occurred, like coming across a tougher enemy (boss). But when that enemy is defeated, he doesn't put his restrictions back into place like how it would happen in real life. Basically, by trying to be realistic they made it completely unrealistic.

And no offense, but who tf does Adam think he is, and why would Samus ever listen to his garbage.

Re: Monster Boy Dev Teases Switch Lite-Specific Game Feature

Panopticon

Does anyone know if Monster Boy uses HD Rumble in a similar way to the Stone of Agony in Ocarina of Time? OoT 3D changed it from a rumble to a chime to adapt to the 3DS not having rumble. This is probably something similar.

Or does Monster Boy use split/sideways Joy Con for any unique reason? This is how we should be thinking. This must have something to do with a feature the Lite does not have, not one that it does, which doesn't mesh well with the current version of Monster Boy. People shouldn't be freaking out over the Lite having "system specific features." It won't. The OG Switch, however, does.

Re: Aonuma Discusses Zelda: Link's Awakening's Dungeon-Making Feature

Panopticon

@HobbitGamer Yes, I was excited for the Wii Zapper, which happened to come with Link's Crossbow Training, and I was able to use it with other games such as Medal of Honor Heroes 2, RE: Umbrella Chronicles, and House of the Dead 2 and 3, just to name a few. And it cost somewhere around $25 to $30 if I remember correctly.

If Link's Crossbow Training was a standalone game that cost me $60, then Link's Awakening would be the second Zelda game that receives a hard pass from me.

I love Link's Awakening very much. I own the original GB cart, and I downloaded DX onto my 3DS immediately. But based on the game's length alone, this should cost no more than $40, and if it had been developed for the 3DS, it would be $40. Charging $60 just because it's on the Switch is not okay.

Re: Guide: The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 - Everything We Know So Far

Panopticon

@Zach777 I came here to post almost exactly this same theory, minus the hokey Back to the Future plot.

My theory: One of the best ways for the devs to reuse the map but make it different enough from BotW is to introduce time travel. Link and Zelda uncover Ganondorf sealed away, they realize that whoever sealed him there (probably the Sheikah) made a mistake by not destroying him completely, now he's escaped and Zelda falls to her death. The glowing hand controls time, and Zelda's death solidifies Link's decision to go back in time. He goes back 100 years to when the Champions were still alive (another gripe fans had in BotW, we were supposed to care about people who we knew were already dead). However, like in OoT, there's only 1 Link. Maybe current Link doesn't actually time travel, maybe he rewinds time altogether (MM) to before he was put in the Shrine of Resurrection 100 years ago. But he retains all the knowledge of what happens, and he knows that his Champion friends will perish if things stay the same. He also knows that the true threat isn't just Calamity, but Ganondorf underneath.

So, Link goes on his own quest because he knows everything they did the first time was a waste of effort. Underground with Zelda, they read the markings on the wall and they learn about the existence of other dungeons around/underneath/above Hyrule that contain some great power that can defeat Ganondorf, and he goes off to find that power. Maybe he convinces the Champions to help him (Medli and Makar style in WW) where their unique Champion powers can come in handy to solving the dungeon puzzles.

By going back in time, entire villages that were wiped out by the Calamity would still be around, which means more NPCs and sidequests. The shrines and the towers wouldn't be around yet. The map could be terraformed a bit here and there to make it different enough. They could include traditional items to breathe new life into the map (i.e. a hookshot you could use like the grapple hook in Arkham, zip up a mountain and pop over it into a glide) because the Sheikah Slate still isn't active. The Master Sword would be powered down, as would Link (back to 3 hearts, no armor upgrades). Keeping him in the future, they would need to come up with some other explanation why his armor/sword/hearts are all back to square one.

Also, 900 Gold skulltulas.

They could use this opportunity to tell a truly fantastic story, maybe even a grand retelling of Ocarina, which would help us get over the fact that the map is still relatively the same. The only thing I haven't figured out how to place in my theory yet is the castle rising up. Not sure if that would be in the present or the past, but it would make more sense to be in the past since the towers/shrines are gone from the overworld in the trailer.

Re: Hands On: Zelda: Link's Awakening On Switch Treads A Fine Line Between Remake And Reimagining

Panopticon

@Bassman_Q It's already on the eshop, and it's listed as $60.

As much as I love Zelda, I have a problem with this. If it was released on 3DS it would be $40.

EDIT: And the extremely limited dungeon builder does not increase this game's value to me in the slightest. If it was on the scale of a "Super Zelda Maker" where I can control the placement of everything, then I would buy it in a heartbeat, but as is, just revisiting old dungeon rooms where the doorways have to stay in the middle of the wall? No thanks.

And With the inclusion of the Color Dungeon, they already have the assets for green, red, and blue Link. All they needed was to add in a purple and we could have had some kind of Four Swords multiplayer. But maybe that will be DLC

Re: Review: Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization Deluxe Edition - A Solid JRPG That Anime Fans Will Appreciate

Panopticon

I’m not saying SAO doesn’t have it’s fair share of anime tropes, but just to clarify, the girl who calls Kirito “Daddy” genuinely thinks of him as her daddy, and as Asuna as her “Mommy.” Just thought I’d clarify this, because it’s not as bad as the reviewer makes it sound. As a daddy myself, I found this part of the story to be quite touching.

Re: Mega Drive Mini Games List: All 42 Titles Revealed

Panopticon

@HikaruKitsune to each their own, I guess. KC is in my top 5 Genesis titles for sure. Great music, great platforming. Over a hundred stages that you can't see in a single playthrough, which encourages multiple runs. More power-ups (transformations) than Mario had at the time, and each power-up has 2 unique diamond powers. And if you are good enough to keep specific transformations through a variety of gauntlets, then you can find hidden pathways, i.e. keep the Cyclone power from 5 stages ago to fly up to an otherwise impossible to reach flagpole.

I play it at least once a year, and each time I make it to the end it feels like a legitimate accomplishment. The level of detail that went into its design, at least to me, is proof that it is anything but "janky."
