Re: Stardew Valley's Next Free Update Will Be "Packed With New Stuff" For More Fun

Panopticon

@Fazermint Pam arrives at 10ish (or you can make her arrive a little earlier with a glitch) which is a pretty good time frame which lets you get stuff done on the farm first. Bring plenty of stone to craft staircases, and you can easily craft bombs or buy them from the Dwarf for cheap. Once in the desert mine, blast away and/or set staircases down, and don’t stop until you get to around level 30. Once there, the chance of rewards and good materials significantly increases.

Re: Pipeworks Has Sent The Switch Alpha Build Of Terraria To Re-Logic For Review

Panopticon

@Reigestugatensho Yes, you can get smart phone / tablet styluses that have some give to them. A bit squishy to imitate your fingertip, but they are larger, like your finger is, and not the fine pen/pencil tip like the 3DS/Wii U styluses are. As a result they still occlude the screen a bit, which can be slightly annoying when you need/want absolute precision.

I suspect Mario Maker is a similar situation. "Absolutely perfect" on Wii U, and "really really good" on Switch, if it ever comes.

Re: Pipeworks Has Sent The Switch Alpha Build Of Terraria To Re-Logic For Review

Panopticon

@Reigestugatensho I played it on PS3 and loved the combat, hated the digging / building with the onscreen cursor controlled by the right stick. I also played it on iOS, and I loved digging / building with touch controls but hated the combat. You get the best of both worlds on the Wii U.

I would only consider it on Switch if it has touch controls, but even then, using my finger is still not ideal compared to the Wii U's stylus, when it comes to absolute precision.

Re: Reminder: Sega Mega Drive Classics Is Out On Switch Today, Here's The Launch Trailer

Panopticon

Kid Chameleon is a true gem. Great music, a handful of transformations, and multiple pathways through what seems like hundreds of stages so that no play through needs to be the same if you don't want it to be. A true competitor to Mario back in the day.

Does anyone know how the multiplayer works? Similar to Nintendo Switch Online? In Kid Chameleon 2P, each player makes their own progress through the game, so either you're watching Player 2 run through the stage you just beat, or in theory they could be stuck on a level and you leave them in the dust. The game is so massive that it makes more sense to just play 1P and "pass the controller." Anyone know if that's possible?

Re: Hardware Review: NS Glasses 3D VR Headset for Switch

Panopticon

@impurekind @LUIGITORNADO didn't say anything negative about VR, just that they have no interest in it. That doesn't make them ignorant, it just means they have an opinion about something.

I happen to agree with @LUIGITORNADO, VR is just not my thing. I don't want my vision restricted either.

Re: SEGA AGES Sonic The Hedgehog - Feel The Need For Speed (Yet Again) On Switch

Panopticon

@smashboy2000 @Mogster The Whitehead version also includes an area in Marble Zone only accessible to Tails and Knuckles which is a cool treat. And I agree, despite having touch controls and not a traditional controller, the Whitehead version is still superior. The touch controls work perfectly, to the point where I can unlock Super Sonic in S2 before fighting the first boss.

Re: Soapbox: Why A Nintendo 64 Classic Edition Might Not Be Such A Good Idea

Panopticon

@Gerald Thank you, someone finally mentioned the benefits of the controller. Have you ever tried playing GoldenEye or TWINE with a dual stick controller? It's impossible, those games were made for the 4 C buttons. Not to mention the ocarina / instruments in OoT and MM. I would buy this in a heartbeat just to have those controllers again

And for anyone saying the graphics haven't aged well, 1) I'm sure they wouldn't have a problem making each or most of the titles 60 FPS, and 2) A great game is a great game, and after 5 min of gameplay you can be absorbed enough to not care

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Dom has made some terrible grammatical errors in the past that are often distracting. No one can deny that. But for this article's mistakes you're just being a nitpicking troll. You said these are basic and obvious mistakes that shouldn't be made, but you missed one:

"There's are issues with these lines..." -your first comment

That was a basic and obvious mistake, and you shouldn't have made it.

Re: You Can Now Spend Your My Nintendo Gold Points On Digital Switch Purchases

Panopticon

It's better than nothing but I don't understand the mentality. I "save" $3.00 on a $60 game, but if 1 million people download that game then Ninty just lost $3M (using simple math to make my point).

Also, I agree with everyone else about the timing in the US. I got 12 points for registering BotW a year ago, and now it should be worth 5x that amount but we rolled this new system out a few days too late? What a joke. I love Nintendo and I love the Switch but this is ridiculous.

Re: Nintendo Is Announcing "A New Way To Play" Later Today

Panopticon

I bet we will get a Nintendo game similar to Disney Infinite or Lego Dimensions, with steady updates the consumers throw money at. After all, they copied Disney and Skylanders by releasing amiibo, but they never had the same software experience to go with them. This would breathe new life into amiibo which would increase their sales.

Re: Feature: Killer Apps We Really Want To See On Nintendo Switch

Panopticon

YouTube would be good. I find it funny that whenever I want to watch a Nintendo Direct on my TV to get all the latest Switch news, I need to fire up my Wii U to do so.

Other than that I don't need or want any others. Right now the Switch is primarily "mine" because it's just games, and I keep my games in suspended status all the time. The last thing I need is my wife losing my progress in a game so she can watch Real Housewives.

Re: Nintendo Isn't Ready To Talk About Any More "Classic" Console Releases

Panopticon

I would buy an N64 Mini just because some of those games NEED to be played with an N64 controller. If you ever tried playing GoldenEye or TWINE with a dual stick controller, you'll know what I'm talking about. Not to mention playing the instruments in OoT and Majora; it's doable but it feels right at home on their native controller.

Re: Soapbox: Stardew Valley is a Perfect Fit for the Nintendo Switch

Panopticon

I'm okay with the save time. I love the game so far but I have a few concerns. You can't customize the controls at all, B and + both take you to the inventory screen, - takes you to Quests, X takes you to crafting...and nothing takes you straight to the map. Clicking in the sticks does nothing, the left "d-pad" buttons are the same as the L stick...there is plenty of real-estate here to give me a map button.

Also, does anyone know what the L and R shoulder buttons do? The gear in my inventory kind of wiggle when you press them but nothing happens. I'm sure it must be something I'm not ready for.

Re: Majora's Mask DLC Will Definitely be Useful in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Panopticon

@aaronsullivan I definitely respect that opinion, but keep in mind there's a reason why the Iron Boots became an equippable item in OoT3D. People complained that pausing the game to equip/unequip over and over again was unintuitive. The Korok mask is no different, except now we aren't just dealing with a small number of water areas in OoT's Hyrule, we are talking about 900 different locations spanning across a massive world. Either we will be doing a lot of pausing and unpausing, or we will end up wearing the Korok mask at the end of the game when there is nothing left to do. Probably both.

Also, I would like to argue that one of the most fun parts of this game was getting distracted and lost, going off on tangents to go see what's "over there." The Sheikah Sensor helped to facilitate this whenever it started beeping, depending on what you were targeting with it. An intuitive, automatic Korok sensor that I don't need to bother equipping would have done the same thing seemlessly.

Re: Majora's Mask DLC Will Definitely be Useful in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Panopticon

@nf_2 The name of the DLC pack is The Master Trials, we don't actually know where any of the new items will be located.

I have to say I'm very disappointed that all the new equipment have the same functionality as original equipment. I thought for sure Tingle would be something like 2x Rupee Find. Majora's Mask is the only one sort of worth finding. Hopefully you can upgrade its armor unlike the Kilton masks.

Also, the function of the Korok mask is a good idea and much needed, but it shouldn't have been a mask. Wearing it will cause you to break set bonuses and will require pausing the game to equip/unequip. It should have been a key item like the Champion powers, turn it on and off, or Koroks should have been added to the Sheikah Sensor. Or even better, it could have functioned like the Fireshield earrings in SS, start to glow when a Korok is nearby. They had plenty of options here but they went with the one most intrusive.

Re: Nintendo Shows Off the Joy-Con Controllers Through the Ultimate Medium - An Infographic

Panopticon

I was so excited during the Switch presentation, I had thought the IR was on top and the Joy Con were, essentially, the Wiimote and Nunchuk reborn. I had expected Wii games to come to the VC, and I was ready to buy my whole Wii collection over again just so I could play on my sleek new Joy Con. I can't believe it took me this long to notice the IR is on the bottom😭

I understand the shoulder buttons are "in the way" but still. My excitement level just plummeted. Third parties aren't going to waste their time with IR on the bottom, especially when it's only on the right and not on both. What a missed opportunity.
