Re: Nintendo Switch OLED Model Vs. Standard Switch / Switch Lite: Full Tech Specs Comparison

Panopticon

@Double-L You're the only one I've found who has commented on this and I can't find anything about it online yet. The logo lighting up on the dock seemed to happen in the middle of gameplay, not when the Switch was popped into the dock. I'm wondering if it always glows or if it's an indicator of something, like an online invitation or when your friend hops online or something along those lines. I will be very interested to learn more.

@Saints I appreciate your input, it sounds like you are probably right. This isn't a Four Swords / Crystal Chronicles type of co-op adventure that I'm looking for. Your assessment that it's closer to arcade/Simpsons seems pretty accurate.

I've had Hammerwatch on my wishlist for years now, but I will check out Heroes of Hammerwatch (I assume they are related but different)

@Saints I completely agree. I would love for Nintendo to bring Four Swords to the Switch, it would be an instant buy for me. And I really wanted Rogue Heroes to fill that void. That's why I'm looking for someone to tell me what I'm missing. How can all the reviews be nothing but great, and I find it to be so bad? Surely I must be missing something.

I should also mention, it was my best friend's birthday a couple days ago, and I was actually going to buy Rogue Heroes for the both of us to play together. He is also an avid Zelda/Four Swords fan, and he agreed with me on pretty much all of my points I listed above. So I should say, we can't both be so wrong about a game that everyone loves, can we?

Edit: Also, can you show me where you found meaningful progression?

@PJOReilly I read this review (and others, all praising this game) and played the demo hoping it would fill the Four Swords void. Honestly I don't understand the praise. The graphics and some text boxes are unpolished, the music is putting me to sleep. This game feels like a web browser Flash game from 2002. The progression of your town and character are all set in stone with predetermined progression hurdles and no RNG stats (think random drops with random stats like Diablo); in other words, you either have this permanent perk unlocked or you don't because you can't yet afford it. Keep dungeon diving, keep buying these rudimentary and repeating stat boosts until you become god and beat the game. And yes, I've just described a ton of other good games but usually they have skill trees where you can choose a path; this game is just either "you've unlocked the perks on the one skill tree or you haven't." There's nothing about this game that would make me feel like it's "my" town or "my" character; I'm just carving this predetermined path set before me. And when this happens in a game, the world and the story had better be engaging and interesting, and it's not. It reminded me a bit of Moonlighter which had the same mechanics of predetermined progression hurdles; I would have quit that game too but the story was mildly interesting.

Also, I kind of hate the attack stamina meter but I could get over that if I knew your stamina could be upgraded (which I don't see anywhere that it can).

My overall opinion is the graphics, the level of polish, and the music are all terribly lazy. The gameplay mechanics are just busy work of unlocking what the developers have placed right in front of my face. The game is absolutely not worth $20.00; I would maybe consider this for $10. But several online reviews would tell me that I'm wrong. So my question is, am I missing something? Is the first dungeon really boring and the rest are amazing? I've constructed all the buildings the demo will allow, I've played with all of the glass tools, and I even played a bit of co op. The demo doesn't allow other character classes to be unlocked but your review says they aren't really all that different. So what the heck am I missing here?

For comparison's sake, Hades, Dead Cells, Stardew Valley, Hollow Knight, Cross Code...these are indies that are worth $20 (or more).

Re: Nintendo Reveals Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, A New Zelda Set 100 Years Before Breath Of The Wild

Panopticon

@iMarkU @Jslade I'm sure it is canon, but we have enough games that aren't canon to make me question whether or not this one is. Cadence of Hyrule, Link's Crossbow Training, the original Hyrule Warriors...Twilight Princess Picross....all the CD-i games...all of which use the characters, the world, the story, etc, so that's not a good enough argument.

@FlaviusFire That's a really good way to put it, well done. Unfortunately at it's core it is a Warriors game. Zelda games are usually Day One for me, but I think I'll probably hold off on a review for this one.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Fans, This Video Game Database Needs Your Help

I haven't read the list but I'm thinking, in general, he's looking for games that allow you to tweak the settings in order to make the game more accessible and not leave anyone out, whether the target is for children or maybe even people with special needs.

A great example of this is Super Mario Odyssey. My 5 year old daughter struggled with Galaxy by losing all her HP, or drowning, or simply not knowing where to go. Odyssey's Assist Mode solved all of that and allowed her to actually beat the game almost completely by herself. An arrow always told her where to go, she had infinite oxygen, and if you stand still you eventually heal. It was exactly what she needed, and was a confidence boost to get her to try other games.

Re: Review: Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition - A Weak RPG Enlivened By Nostalgia

@SwitchVogel Thank you so much for the response! I can't believe villages are solo only. That was such a huge part of the game, having your different families have different professions so you could work towards having the best gear the game had to offer. I was looking forward to this game and now I think I won't even bother.

@Daniel36 You took the words right out of my mouth. I will gladly shell out for another GBA or two and stick to my GCN disc that's still in perfect condition.

Re: Review: Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition - A Weak RPG Enlivened By Nostalgia

@SwitchVogel I still have so many question.

Do you know how the overworld cutscenes (such as the Black Knight) are handled when playing online multiplayer? For example, if I’ve seen a cutscene but my friend hasn’t, will I be forced to watch it again or will he miss out on it? And am I at the mercy of some kind of party leader who can skip all these cutscenes even if I haven't already seen them?

And for that matter, how do the years work? If I’m on Year 3 and my friend is on Year 1? You used to need to change the chalice element in order to pass those miasma tunnels; what if I'm near the end of the game, but my friend hasn't even unlocked a necessary element yet and he's still near the beginning of the game? Can he "warp" to me or am I forced to go back to where he is?

What if I'm ready to beat the game, not just experience wise but story wise, and he isn't? Is it up to him to self-regulate and not rush through if he doesn't want to? What if he's never played it before and doesn't know any better?

Is spell combining any more lenient since we don't have couch co-op? Are the pre-loaded commands super easy to use, so I can send my friend a quick "Firaga!" message and he'll know that I want to do a spell combo? Or do I absolutely need to be on the phone with him for that?

How does picking a family profession work? If I choose to be a blacksmith, can my friend also be a blacksmith? And if so, what happens to our families in Tipa who are now the same profession? Are we still forced to team up with various family professions (merchant, alchemist, blacksmith) in order to unlock the best gear in the game?

Re: Stardew Valley Creator Teases Version 1.5 - Expect New End-Game Content And Much More

Panopticon

@krvstkvlt Good point! But I love SV and I will love anything he puts out so I'm happy with any and all of his content. Plus, after sinking over 450 hours into SV (on multiple farm layouts) I can say that SV is amazing but not perfect. I would love to be able to dye the outdoor flooring different colors, or make custom designs altogether like in AC. Then it would be nearly perfect.

Re: Stardew Valley Creator Teases Version 1.5 - Expect New End-Game Content And Much More

Panopticon

@krvstkvlt He's stated in the past that he is working on two other projects which he is excited about, and if he's excited about them, I'm definitely excited.

@tgchan I completely agree that SV is 1000x better than AC. In fact most games are better than AC. It's a shame, I try to tell a few friends about SV and how it's only $15 instead of $60, but they don't seem to listen. I won't shame anyone for enjoying AC, but I've been playing AC since the original Gamecube release and yeah, SV wipes the floor with it.
