Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power is headed to Nintendo Switch next week, and a brand new trailer has been released to celebrate the announcement.
Unsurprisingly serving as the third game in the series, Trine 3 took the puzzle-platforming series in a new, 3D direction when it first launched on PC and PS4 back in 2015. The upcoming Trine 4 is taking the series back to its 2D roots, so this one will likely stand out as the oddball of the family going forward. Here's a feature list to give you a little more info:
Key Features:
- Experience a fairytale world of breathtaking sceneries and face a myriad of physics-based puzzles, wonderful contraptions, dangerous foes and enchanting creatures.
- Three playable characters, Pontius the Knight, Zoya the Thief and Amadeus the Wizard, each with their own skills and unique abilities
- Explore 7 story-driven Chapters and 11 puzzle-solving, skill-focused Lost Pages
- Online and local co-op multiplayer for up to three players
The game will be priced at $19.99 / 19.99€ / £17.99, will run at 900p/30fps docked and 720p/30fps in handheld mode, and releases on 29th July.
That's not all, though; Frozenbyte has confirmed that the retail collection 'Trine Series 1-3' which comes with the first three Trine games on one cartridge will be available in GameStop stores in North America from 20th September - it was originally planned to launch in spring 2019.
Are you a fan of the Trine series? Will you be picking up either of these releases? Let us know in the usual place.

I wonder how many systems i have Trines games on already...
Wii U, PC, Xbox One and PS3+PS4.
For that reason i won't buy them again for like the 6th time until price is dropped on whole trilogy/quadruplity .
Never played but it looks fun and for 20$ isn’t bad at all
I'm a bit confused regarding this collection of the first 3 games - didn't they recently announce a collection of all 4 games coming to Switch later this year? Why release a physical collection of the first 3 if they're releasing a collection of all 4 just months later?
LOVED Trine 2 on WiiU...this is a must-buy for me <3
Nice games but the mechanic tires over the corse of the games..
Trine 2 on the Switch is a gorgeous platforming masterpiece. High production value and tons of fun. I've read that this third installment was a huge disappointment to fans of the series, but honestly the trailer makes it look just as polished and full of charm. I'll wait for word, I suppose. But at that price, and with Trine 4 looming, I might have to throw some more money at these guys.
The Trine devs must be doing well. Three separate physical releases? Trine 1-3 separately from Trine 4 from one publisher, and all four games in one collection from another publisher. So weird.
Played the first one and it's not a game for me. I like the graphics though, but gameplay wise not so much. Good for the fans of course
I'm really confused, don't know whether I should buy this trilogy collection or wait. Why are they so complicated? If they release the four games in a collection later and the first three games are download codes, I will be very upset
I'm pretty sure Trine 1-3 physical is $40, Trine 1-4 physical is $50. So, basically you get Trine 4, a brand new game, for $10. Might as well wait.
I don't think I will ever play Trine 3 on any system... it appears to be a vast departure from Trine 2.... and 3 is effectively "unfinished" because the devs ran out of money.
I had this preordered for 6 months earlier this year, originally it was slated to launch in the middle of July. Now that it is releasing on the busiest day of the busiest month of this year... I don't know anymore.
Maybe I'll come around
So this is the worst of the 3 Trine games?
@retro_player_22 according to the reviews i've read, yes. the transition to 3d didn't go so hot
I have them all, but can see these being a great play on Switch.
Totally buying Trine 4 on Switch!
The games are such a pain when its on super hard mode.
but yay l guess
As I understand it, this is a Gamestop exclusive (3 game collection) so, NO DEAL. But I AM looking forward to the 4 game collection, assuming it's a hard copy and NOT a download code. 💾
Oddball? According to reviews it’s more black sheep.
Hmm 30fps no thanks
Got my 4 in one pre order from amazon.com a few weeks back, what is the point in the three collection? Ah yeah money
worth noting the special edition of Trine 4 includes all 4 games and it is only like $10 more expensive so if you want to collect them all I would go that route.
@TuragaNuva yup. I have a preorder on the 4 but it looks to be a special edition so like the answer is "because the 1-4 version will be made in limited quantities"
@Fededx yeah this didn't occur to me. I won't be buying it if there are any download codes.
