Re: Soapbox: How Nintendo Unexpectedly Taught Me To Love Gacha Games

NintendomPower

The only gacha mechanics i like are in games like Kirby and the Forgotten Land or Tears of the Kingdom, because in those games you aren't spending real money, plus you can save scum if you really get screwed over. In those games its fun because theres still a risk/reward element but you're not causing yourself real financial harm

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Nervous To Replay In Case They Don't Hold Up?

NintendomPower

Really? I think that Link's Awakening on Switch is way better than the original, and personally I think the "confinements" of the world are what make it cool! The world is small but that also means every inch of it is interesting and its still full of content. And personally I think the game usually does a great job of making sure the player knows what to do next, especially in the Switch version.

Re: Poll: Super Mario All-Stars Is 30 Years Old - Do You Prefer The NES Or SNES Versions Of The Classics?

NintendomPower

For me:
-Super Mario Bros would be the best version of the game except for the brick physics not ricocheting properly
-The Lost Levels would be the same way but since it does make it easier to unlock the postgame worlds plus a more forgiving life system its better lol
-Super Mario Bros. 2's boss and underground music is way less good but it removes limited continues and lets players choose a different character after dying, so its better gameplay wise
-Super Mario Bros. 3 is basically the same as far as i know. both versions are fantastic. I prefer the Airship levels in All-Stars, tho i like playing the NES one just cause its the original lol

Re: Review: Sonic Origins Plus - Not Bad, But Sonic Still Deserves Better

NintendomPower

@RetroGames

as a giant Mario fanboy who massively prefers that series to Sonic

I do think that Classic Sonic still holds up, at least Sonic 2, the main one I played. It was definitely more flawed than Super Mario World, but it also had moments that outshone it in terms of memorability and creativity on top of just having such fast and fun physics-based gameplay

Re: Feature: The One Thing Wii Did Much Better Than Switch

NintendomPower

I've been reading some of the comments and while I do usually prefer traditional controls to motion, I think dismissing motion controls as nothing but a novelty is a disservice to what they can provide.

I think motion controls can be perfect matches for certain games and great as optional alternatives for others. I genuniely love motion controls for games like Pikmin and Metroid Prime, and they're a great match for virtual reality games as well.

Re: Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Version 1.2.0 Bug Supposedly Corrupting Save Files

NintendomPower

I feel like Scarlet and Violet were the alpha versions of a good game

I DO NOT blame Game Freak for the most part. The idea of different paths is great, the Tera mechanic is actually well-thought out and doesnt break the entire meta, not having to take turns for every raid is a great idea, the story is well done, the music is fantastic

It's just the execution is a bland open world with glitches galore and paths that feel half baked (Gym tests are awful, Star Base raids are just "Press the R button when Pokemon appear", and Titan fights are fine I guess but really short and easy) and now on top of that we have overpriced DLC for an unfinished game.

But a lot of that isn't their fault, it's the fault of the Pokemon Company for not giving them time to refine what they had. If they had 6 months to a year to refine this game? I think it could've been a fantastic game! Maybe not on the level of Xenoblade or Persona, but i still think it could've redefined Pokemon.

tl;dr: dont blame Game Freak, it's The Pokemon Company who have insisted on rushing those poor developers, who were all really trying to make something special.

Re: Video: MVG Investigates Switch Online's "Impressive" Game Boy & GBA Emulation

NintendomPower

@Pigeon its not as simple as that
they added a classic mode which makes it REALLY look like its on a Game Boy
they added filters for Game Boy, Game Boy Pocket, or Game Boy Color, the last of which is a huge step up from the 3ds
they made the games look fantastic on tv and handheld
the GBA has Game Boy Player features for Mario Advance 4 because that game had special features if played on a TV
thats why people are impressed with the emulation
