Pokémon developer Game Freak has revealed that it will be hosting a video stream to celebrate its 30th anniversary next month.
The stream will be taking place on 16th October and will be aired on both Twitter and YouTube. Game Freak's very own Junichi Masuda will be present to take fans on a journey through the history of the company, and to share fresh details on new projects, too.
Here are all the details:
GAME FREAK’s 30th Anniversary Celebration Stream will go live on Oct 16 (JST), 2019!
In the stream, Junichi Masuda; one of the founding members of GAME FREAK and music composer for many of their titles, will visit both former and present locations of their company and review its 30 year history.
We’ll also reveal information about the “Gear Project System” - GAME FREAK’s game development system.
We’ll also tell you the latest information about our new titles “Little Town Hero” and “Giga Wrecker Alt.”.
Further updates on the stream are said to be coming to Game Freak's official Twitter account ahead of the big event, so feel free to keep an eye out if you're interested.
A dive into the history of Game Freak sounds pretty wonderful to us. Will you be tuning in?

Are they provoking us?
This pretty much shows that they really want to stand on their own and create anything besides Pokemon. I can’t blame them, but I really would’ve preferred they had tried to make the perfect HD Pokemon experience before changing focus.
The history of GameFreak:
Faffing about for 9 years making... they did that yoshi puzzler on Gameboy, right?
They stumbled on a goldmine by making pokemon, and have been making pokemon games for the last 20 years.
And now they're frantically looking for anything other than pokemon that people will give a toss about.
Well, i think i covered that pretty well, and didn't even need a video stream to do it!
Am I allowed to boo and hiss? Y'know what, I don't even care.
BOOOOO! Hissssss
I wonder if they see the writing on the wall with Pokemon oversaturation with Go and an eventual decline? I can see not wanting to be creatives slaved to a single property, but why all of a sudden?
(imagines a certain game (made by Game Freak) named "Smart Ball"* being mentioned in such a stream)
(*a personal favorite of mine)
30 years! Good going!
30 years and they seem to be slowly devolving as game devs

Sure, Pokemon games are all a bit samey these days, and the graphics aren't the best. I'm not about to sit here and defend Game Freak's every move, but graphics really aren't everything. Sure they look nice, but if you judge games on graphics alone, that's the same as judging a book by its cover.
My point being, Pokemon games are always fun. They aren't the best games around, they definitely aren't the worst. It's also nice to see them taking (seemingly small) steps away from Pokemon with Little Town Hero and Giga Wrecker. I do hope they continue with these unique projects and maybe up the scope a bit to try and create something bigger. Nothing they ever make again will capture the same amount of people as Pokemon, but surely they know that. Game Freak aren't the best developer, but they definitely aren't the worst.
@Matthew010 Totally agree, but there's one detail that REALLY irks me. Game Freak is putting increasing priority to Everything that's NOT Pokemon, hence why Little Town Hero looks way more polished in early development videos compared to Pokemon Sword & Shield, and that's with the fact the dev team of 143 members is in two groups, developing both Little Town Hero and Pokemon SwSh at the same time. They could EASILY expand the team plus have higher budgets since they do make a lot of money from Pokmon, even after it's split up. Honestly, I understand the series fatigue and desire to Branch out, but what irks me is their current approach. Feel Pokemon is suffering for it. If the full team did the games, it'd be getting less hate, then GF can spend some time like a year or two with a non-Pokemon project afterwards, then repeat the cycle. Doing that slows releases for Pokemon a bit, but it'll make things easier and better for us all.
So, they are going to show us the game development system that unfortunately, due to time constraints, failed to port existing assets to their most anticipated game ever (and, most outrageously, continues to fail by denying to release DLC half of their fan base desperately pleads for months)? Interesting timing, to say the least.
Going to guess this is where we finally see the evolutions of the starters since i'm sure there is going to be a section for pokemon.
@Saro Can't be done unfortunately, the merchandising arm of the Pokémon company can't allow for it as they need new material for the manga/anime/toys/movies etc etc. Honestly, the best things I think Gamefreak could do is either a) massively increase their workforce/outsource much more of the development of the games to outside studios and developers or b) hold their hands up, admit their hearts aren't really in it anymore and let someone else develop the mainline Pokémon games. If they've got rights to it or whatever they can always be sold for literally disgusting amounts of money so it's not like it's totally unfeasible for them to let it go.
