Swords, spears, and axes at the ready! Nintendo has dropped a brand new action-packed Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes trailer. We got a sneaky little look at the game over the weekend courtesy of an Amazon Japan listing, but this is the first big look since the game's reveal during the February 2022 Nintendo Direct.
This trailer is absolutely feeding Fire Emblem: Three Houses fans and finally gives us a proper look at our new protagonist, Shez. This purple-haired warrior - who you can choose to be male or female - seems much cockier and self-assured than Three Houses' Byleth. Given the trailer's name, 'Mysterious Mercenary', and Shez's declaration during the trailer that his "pockets have been feeling awfully light, lately", it sounds like they will be the titular mercenary. Though Three Houses fans will remember that Byleth and their mentor Geralt were also originally mercenaries.
Speaking of Byleth, they make a few unusual appearances throughout the trailer. We don't want to spoil anything for those of you planning to go into the story entirely fresh, but it looks like Three Hopes will be a Muso game with every intention of continuing, or at least adding to, Three Houses' story in great detail.
As with Three Houses, Three Hopes is going to have three different paths that will pair you up with one of the three major houses from the original game. Scarlet Blaze pairs you with Edelgard and the Black Eagles, Azure Gleam puts you at Dimitri and the Blue Lion's side, and Golden Wildfire will have you take a shot with Claude and the Golden Deer House.
Depending on what route you pick, you'll get to play as different characters, and your choice of House will also determine which battlefields you can take part in. Some returning Three Houses features are the partner attacks, more base camp exploration, and tactics. We wonder if bonding events will also be making a return.
Three Hopes launches on 24th June, and this trailer just made that two-month wait even harder.
What did you think of the trailer? Also, why not tell us which route you're going to take first by voting in our poll and then commenting below!

This entire trailer can be summed up in one image:
Still really not feeling it, I think I would have just preferred some expansive FE: Three Houses DLC... (still can't get over the dramatic Dimitri character look departure)
Edelgard Supremecy! Beagles for the win!
@Echostory
If the game was directly involved with Three Houses, a lot of people would probably be disappointed because it's a Musou game.
Golden Deer forever!
I will play them all. This trailer convinced me the game is going to be a worthwhile buy.
I'm glad characters classes, explorable base and facilities and the social links are back, it looks like an action version of three houses more than a simple reskinned musou AND WAS THAT HOLST IN THE TRAILER?!
I can't wait!
As wild as it sounds, I skipped Three Houses, but this musou game might just be what makes me give it a second chance. I'm pretty bored with the direction FE series took since Awakening (though I thought it was a good game) and I couldn't care about the game, but I do like games with an expansive deep lore and I wonder how this Musou will fit in a game with already 3 "timelines". Is it an alternative path? The way it ended, it couldn't be a sequel. By the characters present, it couldn't be a prequel. What is it?
I have never played any musou.. age of calamity is on my backlog.. If I enjoy it, ill give a chance to this FE.. I loved three houses... even though I played one path so far, Black Eagles one
@Bobb They introduced the manipulation of time in the game, so it's entirely possible that it's a main part of the plot. Similar to how time travel plays into Age of Calamity.
I feel tempted to get this, because Three Houses is my 2nd favourite game ever, but BOTW is my #1, and I couldn’t really get in Age of Calamity, so I reckon I’ll just look up the story and supports online instead.
Edelgard did nothing wrong. /s
I probably will pick Scarlet Blaze first purely because I did Crimson Flower as my first route in Three Houses.
@eaglebob345 you might be right. I just watched the trailer and it looks yet another alternate path
I admit it looks really good! I might get it, even though I´m not too much into musous. Loved Three Houses, I should go play a different path before getting this, to remember the stoyr a bit and how good it was.
I'm very confused by everything happening in the trailer, and the fact there's THREE ROUTES again when I expected it to be just one, final route haha. I should have known.
Still need to finish off my Golden Deer route on Three Houses to be truly done with the game, but I'll 100% be starting Three Hopes with Azure Gleam. Azure Moon was my first go round with Three Houses and I gotta stick with my boy Dimitri in this one too. I'll eventually get through all the routes tho, most likely.
I'm unsure about this game, on one side I really liked Three Houses for it's story and especially the characters but I really dislike the gameplay of Warriors games
@Fizza Now how do you link piccies like that?
I just don't have the stamina to play lots of Musou games. But this does look like a good one.
Im going to hold off on this game until I see reviews and more gameplay I loved Three Houses but I just don't like Warriors games
@mariomaster96 If you think from the perspective of been able to play as a soldier in the battlefield in real time then you will come to love a Musou game. Musou games are basically war games but all the tactics are real time active battles instead of turn base. Yes it gets old but that's real time active combat for you. It's suppose to be repetitive just like war itself. Remember Dynasty Warriors is just real time version of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Samurai Warriors is just real time version of Nobunaga's Ambition, Hyrule Warriors is just real time version of Cadence of Hyrule, Dragon Quest Heroes is just real time version of Dragon Quest Wars, and Fire Emblem Warriors is just real time version of Fire Emblem itself.
They need to sort out the difficulty scaling on these games. I loved Age of Calamity and played most of it on hard because I actually had to block and dodge and play a wee bit tactically, but by the later levels those Guardians were taking me an age to take down (pun intended) purely because their health bars were so ridiculously massive. They weren't particularly challenging, they just took too long to kill and it got boring.
I did not want to want another Warriors game but…. I want another Warriors game 😭
@GrailUK [ img ] (image url) [ /img ] my friend. Tis that simple. (ignore the spaces between the img's btw, that's just so that it comes out as a comment)
@Bobb I hope it's told as three sides of the same story this time rather than 3.5 "what if" scenarios. Two characters in particular I think were poorly done, only surviving in their respective routes.
@eaglebob345 agreed on 3 perspectives instead of 3 alternatives
I mean, yea, I'm gonna get this game.
Eh I think I'm passing on this one. Was not a fan of the first FE Warriors and I'm pretty burnt out on Three Houses still.
Didn't expect them to keep the 3 paths mechanic, I'm actually looking forward to the game now.
I just hope the students from Three Houses get proper representation here, and that the developers don't load it up with original personalities nobody asked for instead. And that I can still poach students from other houses. I want a team that includes Hilda, Bernie, and Dorothea like in the main game.
Glad to see they're keeping some of the social elements from Three Houses. Hopefully it's meaty.
To be perfectly honest, Three Houses has a great story and cast, but wasn't an amazing tactical game, so I might actually end up preferring this spinoff if it turns out well.
Probably I'll go the same sequence I went in Three Houses: Sanctuary route -> Dimitri -> Claude -> Edelgard
I don’t even like Warriors games and I’m hype for this. They made Claude and Hilda even cuter?! Wtf, no fair IS
A purple character named Shez.
Will we be able to take the camera and go anywhere we want?
It's a Musou game, so I'm still not sure if I'll play it.
The trailer looked good, though. And as for the question, Claude + Hilda for life, and it's not even close!
(Dedue is neat, tho)
FE Warriors gets a lot of guff, but I let myself become swept-up in the post-game with the character unlocks and special weapons and everything and now I'm hooked on Musou. Absolutely on-board with this entry.
I'm still working through my second playthrough of Three Houses but I'm definitely interested in this even though it isn't exactly what I had in mind when I heard rumor of a new FE game this year.
The remixes to some of Three Houses songs sound great as well!
gosh, this looks good. If this runs well, I will buy it on Switch.
I think I will get FE 3 Houses before hand to play and understand the characters.
I feel like they're going to be saved for DLC again but I really want the Ashen Wolves to get some love in this. They're great characters but we don't really get to see much of how they connect to the broader world.
Feels like this could have been another traditional FE game especially with all the 3H elements there are putting in.
I sided with Edlegard in Three Houses so Scarlet Blaze for me. Pretty fitting too since I plan on picking up Pokemon Scarlet as well.
The Three paths mechanic and this flashy trailer has me convinced this is going to be a great game for me. Of course I'll pick Golden Wildfire cause Claude is the best. Although, it's very difficult for me to deny Dimitri his much needed new friend.
@Lizuka I am going to be so upset if they are relegated to DLC again! But hey, if it means we get a semi-sequel to the DLC storyline I wouldn't be too mad.
Was passing on Fire Emblem Three Houses a mistake? I opted to buy Astral Chain instead and didn't really look back. The story intrigued me but I've never been much of a fan of the FE gameplay
@AlexanderDaniels neither, it seems like an alternate timeline
Not entirely sure how this lines up. I'd assume it was a sequel story for each branch although the whole Byleth/ Ashen Demon thing is confusing.
Still, interested to hearing more about the the mechanics outside of the battles.
@Axecon Nah, both are great games. That said, I think I would have enjoyed AC more if I didn't play FE3H. That game just raised the bar for me that I haven't had much fun with following games haha
One thing to note is the differences in the two English trailers:
USA:
Challenge the Ashen Demon...AS A mercenary who was meant to fade into the waves of history...
UK:
Challenge the Ashen Demon...A mercenary who was meant to fade from the pages of history...
@Arawn93 KT put a lot of development time into 3H, so I assume part of the deal they had with IS was that they could use 3H assets in their own style of game
I see the name "Shez" and can only think of Schezo from Puyo Puyo.
Where’s Yuri and the Ashen Wolves? Hope they make an appearance because I really loved all the characters in that class.
Thank goodness the graphics were legitimate. This is looking like the most polished Warriors outing on Switch, I'm now more interested than ever!
I need a Church route please.
Hopefully they’ll improve upon the romance options in FE3H if there are supports in this game. The gay representation was unbelievably disappointing in that game
Anyways, I’m looking forward to this!
