Re: Video: We've Spotted Some Secrets In The Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal Trailer

It’s not actually an IR camera. I already checked it and it goes up to the shoulder button, but now the L Joy-Con has it too. It’s just a plastic seam.

Switch games that use IR cameras will need the original Joy-Cons to work.

Wait. Never noticed the hole by the cartridge slot. Possible microphone for voice chat as well as support with headsets?

Somebody suggested in the comments elsewhere that the new USB-C port could power a Switch 1 as a second screen. Why not? Normally a second screen adds significant cost. But there are an awful lot of old Switch 1 units out there that would otherwise be obsoleted by a Switch 2. If you give them a second life as a 2nd screen, that's free functionality. And we'd finally be able to play DS/3DS games properly again.

I think that was me. It would actually be a great idea too. In fact, that top USB-C could be for anything, maybe even allowing us to connect a camera to the Switch 2.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal Trailer Gives First Official Look At The New Console

@Thwomp_Stomper Highly unlikely Nintendo is going back to region-locking their consoles after removing it with the Switch.

These days modern consoles are region free, and we can expect the same for future Nintendo consoles (except in mainland China if they don’t pull out of there after the shutdown of NSO in the country and the Tencent Switch eShop).

The closest they might do tho is give Splatoon 4 the same Splatfest region system that determines it by where the cartridge was bought similar to Splatoon 2, except this time actually grouping Australia with Europe instead of the US.

@UltimateOtaku91 The leaker admitted on the GTA forum that he made it up.

I was skeptical about that rumor when it came up for a few reasons:
1. March 3 is on a Monday this year and consoles usually don’t release on a Monday. Thursday or Friday release makes more sense.
2. The 1.5 gap between January 17 and March 3 for the Switch 2’s release is too short compared to the Switch’s 4-5 months, but there is a chance the Switch 2’s timeframe is longer and results in a September or November release. I still expect a late May/early June release.
3. The Switch 2’s supposed $399 price for Canada equates to $299 in the US, and that price point seems unlikely. The Switch 2 is gonna have extra power over the Switch, so the extra power is gonna bump up the price. Trump’s about to become president soon and he plans on implementing tariffs on products imported from countries like China, Japan or Vietnam. At most I’d expect the Switch 2 price point in the US to be around $399-$499 ($499-$599 in Canada).

Regardless of the leaks, it appears as if Nintendo is sticking to their plans and won’t reveal it early because of that.

The longer Nintendo doesn’t say anything, the likelier it is that they’re planning on revealing it March 31.

Although could the reason they’re still waiting be to prepare the launch lineup so it’s ready by the time Switch 2 comes out?

@nukatha It’s also possible Nintendo adds more storage and faster speeds for Switch 2 cartridges with the same Switch cartridge shape without changing pins or altering the shape in any way, like with how it’s happened to SD cards over the years. Switch 2 cartridges might be a different color tho, maybe red.

With the Switch 2 using the same base OS as the Switch, I think Switch 2 cartridges also have something to do with it. If they go with just putting higher speeds and more storage, they’ll probably be a message for Switch 1 telling us that Switch 2 cartridges won’t work on Switch 1 (unless it’s a cross-gen game).
