Back on topic though: A Switch 2 version of Pokémon: Legends Z-A could be an enhancements patch (with better graphics, faster loading times, overall better performance, etc.) that can be a free download when the game is played on a Switch 2.

Assuming the tariffs do hit Japan, where else could Nintendo move physical media production for Switch 1 and Switch 2 games?

@jojobar Check the back of Switch games boxes. They literally say “Made in Japan.”

You might be referring to the console itself, but even if you were, it’s also manufactured in Vietnam and Cambodia.

@Kiyata I actually get most of my Switch games physically and the barcode info does show “Made in Japan.”

@LastFootnote Switch cartridges (and maybe Switch 2 cartridges as well) are produced in Japan, so those won’t be affected unless Trump ends up adding tariffs for products from Japan.

I was super interested in getting a Switch back in 2019 when I noticed some other relatives of mine had one. By 2021 thanks to the stimulus checks my parents got I was able to get a Switch. Love the hybrid concept. I once never thought I’d see a Switch in my house until 2021, and here I am now. Here’s to the Switch 2 and whatever it brings (hopefully themes make a return)…

Different starters could have been used, but if I were to get the game, I’m gonna go with Tepig.

@Not_Soos New Splatoon isn’t coming out for another year or two. We might actually see a first Splatoon spin-off game tho.

@CaleBoi25 Likely scenario could be that Nintendo just wants us to pay full price for digital content going forward unless they add discounts when they do sales.

@westman98 I’ve never seen a unit that was produced in Cambodia, and Cambodia is actually pretty close to Vietnam.

It’s $349, $399 or $449. We can’t expect it to be $299 this time if it’s more expensive to produce it and all the extra power added.

As for the tariffs thing in the US, I think Nintendo will find a way around it by sending Switch 2 units produced in Vietnam to be sold in the US (and any other markets managed by Nintendo of America, like Canada and Mexico). That way they won’t have to deal with tariffs and increase the US price.

@StewdaMegaManNerd I actually wanted to get the Animal Crossing Switch in 2021, but since GameStop cancelled the order due to them not having it I settled for the blue and red model.

If they consider the remake/remaster route at least price them at $39 or $49.

Bringing DS or 3DS over to Switch 2 whether by remakes/remasters or NSO could also benefit from a dual screen attachment like from that one concept video.

@westman98 And with the addition of mouse support on the new Joy-Cons makes it even less likely for a separate dual screen attachment as the mice could already just be used as a stylus for DS games that support it or Tomodachi Life if that gets rereleased.

Now that it comes up to me, if Nintendo sends Vietnam-produced Switch 2 units to the US, wouldn’t they also get sent to Canada and Mexico or even South America as those markets are managed by Nintendo of America and they get the same things as in the US?

@darkswabber Technically it’s not Nintendo of Germany even though it is located in Germany. Remember Nintendo France also got merged with Nintendo of Europe at the same time as Nintendo Benelux.

@Magician Pretty much now the only time we can save is when they do limited time sales or their Hits for the Holidays Sale. But outside of that we will only be able to buy Switch 2 games at their intended price.

Actually since Switch 2 games won’t be compatible with vouchers maybe the Switch 2 will actually have its own eShop to work with.

Highly likely Nintendo wants the only way to get Nintendo Switch 2 games to be just straight up buying them at their intended price, and then also gold points going away means no more discounts until they do sales.

@HeadPirate @IceClimbers Nintendo already started sending some production to Vietnam following Trump’s first attempt on imposing Chinese tariffs in 2019.

@HeadPirate Wouldn’t the one way Nintendo won’t make US customers pay more and avoid high tariffs is if they send units that were manufactured in Vietnam to the US?

If I’m not mistaken, Xbox sells classic games through Game Pass and individually on the Microsoft Store. No surprise if Nintendo takes a similar approach.

Nintendo probably knew about this and turned off the OS until launch day so the UI wouldn’t show when powered on. Release is the only way we’ll know what the Switch 2 UI will look like.

@Coalescence I think the context is that most people don’t wanna see shovelware or eSlop games and want filters to be added so they can filter them out even though we may not know that there are some potentially good games.

@Dev-N Nintendo’s probably gonna build a new eShop for the Switch 2 (unknown if it will be an app or not), so maybe it will also get new features like shopping cart, review/rating and gifting, even filter features to just filter out developers and games we don’t want to see.
