Re: Is This Our Best Look Yet At 'Switch 2'?

MrCarlos46

@UltimateOtaku91 The leaker admitted on the GTA forum that he made it up.

I was skeptical about that rumor when it came up for a few reasons:
1. March 3 is on a Monday this year and consoles usually don’t release on a Monday. Thursday or Friday release makes more sense.
2. The 1.5 gap between January 17 and March 3 for the Switch 2’s release is too short compared to the Switch’s 4-5 months, but there is a chance the Switch 2’s timeframe is longer and results in a September or November release. I still expect a late May/early June release.
3. The Switch 2’s supposed $399 price for Canada equates to $299 in the US, and that price point seems unlikely. The Switch 2 is gonna have extra power over the Switch, so the extra power is gonna bump up the price. Trump’s about to become president soon and he plans on implementing tariffs on products imported from countries like China, Japan or Vietnam. At most I’d expect the Switch 2 price point in the US to be around $399-$499 ($499-$599 in Canada).

Regardless of the leaks, it appears as if Nintendo is sticking to their plans and won’t reveal it early because of that.

The longer Nintendo doesn’t say anything, the likelier it is that they’re planning on revealing it March 31.

Although could the reason they’re still waiting be to prepare the launch lineup so it’s ready by the time Switch 2 comes out?

@nukatha It’s also possible Nintendo adds more storage and faster speeds for Switch 2 cartridges with the same Switch cartridge shape without changing pins or altering the shape in any way, like with how it’s happened to SD cards over the years. Switch 2 cartridges might be a different color tho, maybe red.

With the Switch 2 using the same base OS as the Switch, I think Switch 2 cartridges also have something to do with it. If they go with just putting higher speeds and more storage, they’ll probably be a message for Switch 1 telling us that Switch 2 cartridges won’t work on Switch 1 (unless it’s a cross-gen game).

@DoubleDate But then it’s unlikely to go the same path the Wii U did. The Wii U had horrible marketing and a confusing name, and all new iPhones look like their predecessors, yet they don’t fail in sales. The name “Switch 2” makes it clear that this is another console.

@Ulysses I mean, we still don’t know what the UI and launch lineup will be.

The Switch 2 is set to use the same base OS as the Switch, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it will also use the same UI. The Switch 2 UI will probably retain the simplicity of the Switch’s UI but also bring back different themes, kinda like these Switch 2 HOME Menu UI concepts on Reddit and Twitter which appear to do that.

Hopefully one of those 2 becomes the Switch 2’s UI (I somehow lean more towards the one from Twitter. Close to PS4/PS5 but looks more lively than the original Switch’s UI), along with some cute music to go along with the UI. Game backgrounds as themes are also great idea, which should be a feature on Switch 2 and great additions alongside the default theme (which may likely be a dynamic one).

Maybe we’ll also get some sort of Theme Shop to not only get the themes we want, but also choosing the music we want to have playing in the HOME Menu regardless of theme being used. In fact, if they bring themes to Switch 2, they should also allow us to get some with My Nintendo Platinum Points.

Possible reason the Switch didn’t have themes or UI music could be because of its limited power. With the extra power the Switch 2 is rumored to get, the return of themes and UI music are a possibility.

There’s one issue people still talk about, which is how laggy the Switch’s eShop gets. Even if the Switch 2 eShop is still a web browser, maybe the extra power will help it run better and smoother. Does need a redesign and new features tho, like a shopping cart feature, as well as rating/review, gifting and filtering features, as well as music like with the UI (assuming Switch 2 brings back UI music).

As for launch titles, they might consist of a new Kirby, new Zelda, new 3D Mario, new Mario Kart, new Pikmin, some new original games, and maybe some sort of pack-in game that comes included with the Switch 2 (something like they did back with the Wii and Wii U).

@NintendoByNature For a Switch 2 SNES edition, they should put both color schemes for all regions rather than separate models with color schemes corresponding to the region they’re releasing (purple/lavender for the US, multicolor for Europe and Japan)

Here was how I thought the color schemes could be used for such edition:

The L Joy-Con’s D-Pad buttons get the purple and lavender colors of the US SNES, while the R Joy-Con uses the JP/EU colors for the ABXY buttons.

@JohnnyMind One other thing I would also change for the Switch 2 eShop is with languages. They don’t need to change it so eShop language is based on your console language, but there is another option: Just add English as another language for all the other eShop regions that don’t have English as a language.

Here are some examples of what I mean:

1.
Country: Belgium
Languages: Dutch, French (France), English (United Kingdom)

2.
Country: Japan
Languages: Japanese, English (United States)

3.
Country: South Korea
Languages: Korean, English (United States)

4.
Country: Brazil
Languages: Portuguese (Brazil), English (United States)

5.
Country: Spain
Languages: Spanish (Spain), English (United Kingdom)

6.
Country: Switzerland
Languages: French (France), German, Italian, English (United Kingdom)

7.
Country: Italy
Languages: Italian, English (United Kingdom)

8.
Countries: Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru (and then also if they choose to expand more into Latin America)
Languages: Spanish (Latin America), English (United States); basically like the US eShop

9.
Countries: Germany, Austria
Languages: German, English (United Kingdom)

10.
Country: France
Languages: French (France), English (United Kingdom)

11.
Country: Netherlands
Language: Dutch, English (United Kingdom)

12.
Country: Portugal
Language: Portuguese (Portugal), English (United Kingdom)

@JohnnyMind Also more realistic than using the My Nintendo Store, because part from security and technical reasons, then there’s also more to it: Regions, and that Nintendo would have to be the proprietor of the My Nintendo Store in each region to be consistent.

On top of that, each My Nintendo Store region has different offerings, and it could also become a problem when one region has better offerings than another.

@JohnnyMind Off-topic, but I found your comment on the article talking about how the Switch 2 eShop could be fixed, and when I found the part that mentions "a universal store that operates almost akin to the AppStore in that titles displayed will run on the hardware you’re navigating the store on along with different labels and/or sections for Switch 1 and 2," I’m pretty sure that would already be the My Nintendo Store (as well as having its other selections, because no joke, being able to also purchase hardware, Switch/Switch 2 accessories or even other merchandise like toys and apparel straight from your Switch 2 would be fire), so they could use that as the Switch 2 storefront and add some extra features if they wanted to, unless the universal store part was referring to something else.
