my 2 cents: it will be both a home and a mobile console. The home device is basically a docking station fitted with an optical drive but the CPU/GPU hardware is located in the portable device that has a HD touch screen and flash memory to install a couple of games.
Las weekend i got 10 Streetpass hits in the city. Much to my surpirse, three of the ten had recently played Happy Home Designer. It must be very popular with the AC:NL crowd
Already have the games i want from this selection but that is a very sweet price point indeed. What's funny is that Starfox 3D was being sold for 10 or 15 euro some time ago because shops had a lot of unsold stock.
BTW did anyone notice that Nintendo of Europe has also priced down the recent Wii U titles like Splatoon and Woolly World? I think they're trying to drive home the selling point that Wii U is the most affordable home console
I played it several hours a day for well over a year. Then i had to skip a few days and it broke the spell... i never went back to my town. On the other hand: i did get my life back!
So, the 60.000$ was frittered away on some artwork and "existing debts" and it would not be enough anyway. Isn't it a violation of Kickstarter rules if you don't expect to deliver the product? What a scam...
@shani And indeed, it turns out you can! I hooked up an old USB harddrive, formatted it and copied my save data and game updates to the drive. BTW: the Nintendo site talks about "transfering" data, that's why i got confused as i don't want to use the USB drive on a permanent basis.
@shani no, i did understand that part. But i don't have a USB drive hooked up now. So what i would like to do is use a USB drive to make a backup copy of my save data, remove the drive and play on. The Nintendo site seems to suggest that is not possible and that you can only transfer and not make backups.
According to the Nintendo site, if i backup (copy) my data to a USB storage device, that device becomes the default save location. But i don't want that; that would leave the save file open to corruption by this hack.
I don't think Star Fox is that big of a crowd puller to be honest. Sure, us fanboys will love and buy it, but I honestly doubt it has real "mass appeal".
Sensible appointment that was to be expected... a company man who will keep the ship on a steady course while they look for a new captain. And I'm very happy that they haven't persuaded/forced Miyamoto to take the job!
"As for the console itself, I was tempted to call this the next Philips CDi..." Touché! It has every chance to be just as succesful IMHO. On a technical level, a media player like this won't be able to compete with cutting-edge gaming consoles. But they're also quite expensive compared to other set-top / streaming products like Chromecast so I'm not so sure this will take off.
@ manu0 : Nintendo is a creator of original content - a rare breed in today's marketplace! - and for various reasons, both technical and financial, their output is firmly tied to their own dedicated hardware. This also results in a relatively high margin on the games they sell. They have no interest in sharing that revenue stream with a third-party app store. Never mind the negative impact it would have on their hardware sales.
Apple just wants a finger in everyone's pie by delivering any content thru their devices. See iTunes - it makes millions selling music but it has never produced an album or launched an artist.
There is no contest really; this is the ultimate Mario platformer. Best looks, best soundtrack, precise controls and some very challenging level designs. I would happily trade all the others for this one game.
I'll be the heretic and admit i never really liked SMB2. My first encounter with these games was thru the All Stars compilation and I was unaware of the Doki Doki origin. But SMB2 just didn't feel (or look) "right" compared to the other Mario platformers. And seriously... do people actually like Birdo?
To anyone who is considering getting one of these... hurry! These trophies are simply amazing; they really look the part and are made to high quality standards. no cheapo plastic cr@p
There's a good reason why Nintendo declined to buy Rare. The Stampers and consequently most of the core staff were gone or leaving. Rare without their talent was just an empty shell.
IIRC Pachter was one of the "analysts" who repeatedly called for Iwata's resignation. Ah yes... “If he can’t make change happen, the company should find someone who can.” Sanctimonious little sh*t...
cheapest ticket price 55 euro.... factor in fees, transport, two drinks and a poster or t-shirt and you're talking serious money. Sorry, can't afford it.
We can all be thankful that Nintendo is a ""traditional" Japanese company where dedication and loyalty are the norm. I have no doubt that the company is in safe and capable hands.
The Konami tweet already made me well up with tears but that fanart with Kirby, Mario and Link gathered around Iwata really hit home and opened the floodgates. What a sad day

Re: The Pokémon Company Sues Fan for Copyright Infringement, Demands $4,000 in Damages
No sympathy from me if your company repeatedly uses someone's copyrighted IP in a commercial venture. This isn't "fan art" by any definition.

Short and sweet: no. Not going to happen now (or ever) because Apple and Nintendo have diametrically opposing interests and business models
