Earlier this year we shared the news that Nintendo's efforts to step up its IP licensing had brought about a deal with old favourites Hot Wheels, with six cars planned for an October release. As you can see below four are branded for the Super Mario 30th Anniversary, and another two are simply dedicated to gaming classics without that neat logo.
- 8 Crate Delivery (Dr. Mario)
- A-OK (Mario Kart)
- Cool-One (Super Mario Bros. 2)
- Dairy Delivery (Super Mario Bros.)
- School Busted (Super Mario 3)
- Volkswagen T1 Panel Bus (Super Mario World)
When these first emerged an October release was expected, and Mattel is delivering on that promise. First of all it shared the following tweet to show them off.
That made us think these were readily available now, yet we couldn't - at the time of writing - find them anywhere. The related Facebook post therefore made more sense.
It's-a Mario time here at Hot Wheels HQ! We're thrilled to announce our collaboration with Nintendo to celebrate 30 years of Super Mario and in the coming weeks we'll be showcasing the collection hitting stores this month!
They're coming soon, then. Are you planning to hit the road to get some of these?

Hip hip hurray marketing license deals!!
Glad i got here near the beginning, I know a couple of people who are going to be giving me a hard time about this.
I still wish Nintdo had something like the Playstation Blog (US or EU, take your pick) so they could announce some of this stuff rather than everyone else.
http://blog.us.playstation.com/
http://blog.eu.playstation.com/
If they do have one - and not just a webpage w/ old stuff, a page that is updated several times a day, every day, w/ news, please give me the link.
Nice. It would have been a smarter business move for Nintendo to at least advertise the fact (on the packaging) that these classic games can be enjoyed on Wii U and (in some cases) 3DS.
Those are cute.
I want these. I wonder if we could see more things like this in the future.
Could see myself getting the SMW VW bus.
So cool! Looks like something that would have come out when I was a kid.
Looks like good xmas presents for the boys unless they are too pricey or the scalpers take control
Damn... I read the headline in my news reader and thought "Oh man, I would totally buy a mini-Princess Peach hotwheels cart" (meaning a hotwheels car that looked like a Princess Peach from Mario Kart) and then when I saw it was just a paintjob on an existing car... =(
Any info on the price level?
I was expecting better looking cars. The paint jobs are cool but why on Vans, Station Wagons and cars that look inspired by the Model T?
Although the entire collection would be cool, that SMB one is definitely going to be the most popular.
@Dauntless propably they had lots of those unwanted ugly cars unsold in warehouse somewhere and someone got great idea how they can finally get rid of those. New paintjob and problem was solved.
Oh Mario! There's nothing they wont slap your hairy mug on to make a buck.
Gonna need two sets of these. Yup. One to keep in the box for all of time, and the other to play with .
If I see them in the store and have a spare buck I'd like to get a couple out of the set.
nice
@Captain_Gonru Was playing the new Zelda demo with my kids and when we were finished started looking thru the eShop to see if I could find any sign of the Selects prices - my kid wants ALBW - but nothing. Here's a weird thing though, which I really don't get - have your blood pressure meds handy? - AC:NL, which I've only heard good things about, is $30, but HHD is $40, for a download, of a spinoff game, that requires a $20 IR dongle and 100 amiibo cards. How did that happen? And people are complaining about Lego D. Nintendo is weird.
I'm not even trying to get that on topic.
Oh, problem with the email, you have to subscibe, I like the Playstation blog, the EU version people working there even reply a lot, though the peanut gallery is much nicer there.
These are awesome, in my
opinion.
Oh my, I'm getting two of each: one for my office table, one for playing with my 4yo son! o/
My local grocery store carries Hot Wheels, so I'll be on the lookout for these next time I'm there.
@rjejr But they have Twitter.
Could they have a kart for the Super Mario Kart one? Just sayin'
I am pretty sure I have seen these at my local wal-mart for quite a long time now.
Is there any word on a European release date of these?
@rjejr Technically the IR dongle and amiibo cards are optional accessories. I just happened to buy both because I have a problem.
@TheLobster Well I know they are optional accessories, but you can buy them in a bundle w/ the game for $50. So if the dongle is $20 and the card is $1 that makes the game $29. but it's $40 to download. Not a good deal on a $40 download on a $30 game.

And you can't have to much of a problem w/ a animated Calvin and Hobbes avatar, that's smooth sailing.
@rjejr Haha thanks. Obviously I mean I have a problem with buying too much Nintendo stuff (I have 66 of those cards now and over 40 amiibo!) but you're right, there's never a problem with Calvin and Hobbes. Thank you!
very collectable, might be worth something in a few years
castlevania hot wheels asap
@Captain_Gonru Forgot all about these, thanks. I just spent 20 minutes w/ my wife working on wish lists for the boys on Amazon. 13 is a weird age, too young for booze, too old for toys. And it's a fairly lame year all around for vidogames, PS3, 3DS and Wii U. I mean I'm good w/ XCX collectors ed., and my youngest w/ 2 Skyaldners games on Wii and Wii U, but the 13 yr old just does his own thing. Might have to buy him a laptop or tablet or something. I don't know. He just got $4k for his bar mitzvah, and he knows most of it is for college - that might cover freshman textbooks - but I told him he can spend some, but he has no interests except chess, Minecraft and Pokemon.
Will get him a car or 2, he'll think it's cute. So thanks.
@Captain_Gonru thanks for the info! I'll have a look-see if i can find them over here in Euroland first. Transatlantic shipping charges have gone thru the roof
@Captain_Gonru Funny, I was just telling my mom on the phone w/ CD rates so low and I have no confidence in the stock market, being burned in both 2000 and 2007, I need to buy something stupid w/ the money as an investment, like comic books. But Mario cars would work. I'm not buying him those Mario dog tags though, I seriously don't get those. At all.
