Not packing in a game is basically setting the retail price 50$ higher. Nobody will buy a console without at least one game so the basic outlay will be a minimum of 350$.
Well, that sorta clinches my decision not to buy a Switch. I don't really have the money to invest in new hardware and a bunch of games so the Wii U will be my last Nintendo. Sad...
So sad... those silly cheaters are only cheating themselves. A game looses all attraction when you don't play by the rules, whether it's Monopoly or Pokémon Go.
@MitchVogel ditto! I just couldn't suppress a discrete whoop whne that happened. And what a scoop for Nintendo... the whole world saw this homage to anime and video games. After the brief 3DS cameo in the London 2012 opening ceremony this must have been Ninty's biggest viral marketing coup.
I live in Euroland but was very lucky to buy several boxes of the US Nintendo Power mag before prices and international shipping spiralled out of control. Most are from the SNES and N64 era and it's a real trip down memory lane to browse through them.
The Interweb brought us a lot of good things but I really regret it also caused the demise of so many great magazines.
@Frank90 Nintendo can only reject games on technical grounds; if they don't work as advertised or brick your console. The old Seal Of Quality program was challenged in court and they lost.
This is just appauling... I made a HTML5 fruit machine that looks 10 times better in just two nights. With a bonus game, gamble or collect winnings, reel hold and a win chart on the side where it should be.
@pckid73 Yeah, i've got a couple of those SNES "copy boxes" as well. Great way to play all those Pachinko games that were never released in the West. But one day I'll use it to develop an epic graphic adventure, honest !
I have one of these drives hooked up to a Japanese NTSC console. They're quite hard to source as most online auction sites don't allow them to be listed because they're regarded as piracy tools. But i just happened to find one at a fleamarket.
@Hamster_Overlord Developing for the N64 is not for the faint-hearted and newbies need not apply. There's no easy to use toolchain as the official devkit required a customized SGI workstation. In short: it's bloody difficult to do anything beyond simple textmode utilities like a controller tester.
I kinda think Nintendo saw a drop-off in Splatfest participation. To be brutally honest, I lost interest in them. The gameplay isn't challenging enough and there's no strategy involved. But 'normal' Ranked Mode games will always remain challenging and fun!
Loving it - provided they do it right with high quality hardware instead of those horrible cheap Sega dollar-store knockoffs. Impressed by the excellent selection of games without any shelf-fillers or duds. It won't take long before someone figures out a way to add more games. Plus it looks darn cute - i know people who'd pay good money for an empty shell like that for their Raspberry Pi projects!
It's already huge here in Holland without an official release. Yesterday it featured heavily in all the papers and on TV. It's the perfect summer craze and I'm seeing a lot of people hunting for Pokemon. I'm glad my prediction that Nintendo would sweep the board with a Pokemon game for smartphones have come true because i really really really want them to survive forever.
My only regret is that I don't have a smartphone and can't join in the fun.
Almost ironic... the original grey Zapper got an orange makeover to make it more toy-like after some tragic incidents where people mistook it for a real gun.
Shame on you, Nintendo! SNES games could easily be emulated on the 'old' 3DS. I fully understand they need to sell consoles & make money but this is just low.
I'm picking up cheap Wii games when I find them; usually at around 2 to 4 euro each. At that sort of price level, i don't really mind the inevitable shovelware. I've also got an almost complete N64 collection and a lot of NES and SNES games and people tend to forget there's a lot of really terrible software for those systems as well.
Interesting dilemma, as it is actually related to the game itself. Thought long and hard but I guess that Ninja best describes my favourite play style.
I've got a Gamegear in excellent condition with about 50 games, PSU, TV Tuner and a neat carry-all bag. They were terribly expensive here so pretty thin on the ground and it's almost impossible to find one now without the all too common sound & display issues.
Nintendo got off to a bad start in the UK during the NES era. due to some unfortunate dealer/distribution deals Sega dominated that market and Nintendo never conquered it like the rest of the world.
Whatever happens, Nintendo won't be the first to market. They've burned their fingers on VR before so they will probably take a wait & see attitude. And i think they are 100% right to do that. As long as helmets or visors are needed, it's not ready for the mainstream
When it comes to controllers, first party products are superior. This was always true and I'm pretty sure this one won't be the exception to that rule.
Takara Tomy makes a lot of cheap Nintendo themed watches. I got some Mario watches for 1$ each so i'm hoping these will be in the same "gashapon" price range.
I think it's fair to say that 2015 was a transitional year for Nintendo; if only for the sad passing of Satoru Iwata. Not too many triple A releases but being on a very tight budget i don't mind too much. And what they did release was really excellent. Splatoon is absolutely my Game of the Year. The fact that it has been developed by Nintendo's young guns gives me great confidence that the company will continue to bring fresh and exciting new games for many years to come. You taught them well, Miyamoto-San
I did notice before that the new maps were increasingly challenging as they were being released. Mahi-Mahi Resort for instance requires a lot of skills that I just did not have when the game launched.
Rogue Leader certainly clinched the deal for me when i bought my Cube (my first 'current-gen' console). I got the Mario Kart Pak and Rogue Leader; both excellent value for money

Re: Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition Coming This November, Ships With 30 Games
@ironside1911 60 bucks for 30 good NES games is very cheap. Unless you resort to "free" illegal ROMS but that's not a fair comparison.

Some businesses are already raking it in thanks to Pokemon Go. A cafe/diner here in Holland had a huge turnover thanks to all the extra customers.

Re: Hardware Review: We Look at a Definitive GameCube HDMI Mod
@electrolite77 Yes, PAL only as far as i know. Think they released it mainly for France where every TV used a SCART/Peritel connector in those days.

BTW: the RGB Scart cable is a lot cheaper than the legendary component cable and also delivers an excellent picture if your TV supports it.
