@HyperSonicEXE no, i agree that the virtual Louvre tour itself should be serious. However, there's plenty of scope for a Layton-style adventure or some other spin-off set in the museum. Perhaps they can get permission to use the assets in another setting.

I like this commercial... short, sweet and to the point. 3DS and 2DS ads are on very heavy rotation on most channels here right now. We celebrate Santa Claus on December 6th and Nintendo are going all out now with publicity for the handhelds to capture that market. But i'm also starting to see more Wii U ads for Zelda and Wii Party U.

Somebody pointed out to me that this Holiday season, a casual shopper will have almost zero chance of buying a PS4 or Xbox One off the shelf. The launch editions will quickly sell out, mostly on pre-orders. This could help the Wii U sales.

Let's not forget that we, grown-up Nintendo fanboys and girls, are NOT the key demographic for the 3DS platform. Nintendo knows very well that it's handheld bread is buttered mainly by kids & teens and that's why they are so extremely cautious. The media would be very eager to run an alarmist "Nintendo enables predators" story and if the Big N looses it's family friendly image it could spell doom and gloom in the longer run.

Great idea! i've got a box full of very nicely modelled plastic ? blocks that used to contain a kart toy and candies. I'm gonna stick led lights inside them for a truly awesome Xmas.

Of course we should not forget that it is quite hard and probably pointless to promote a console if there are little or no games. I always expected Nintendo to wait till the upcoming holiday season for a bix promotional push.

Imagine the uproar and gnashing of teeth if Nintendo decided to delay the launch of their newest console by a year in the USA (and two in Europe). The internet would explode!

I agree 100%. As i've argued yesterday, the family friendly image is crucial for Nintendo. If you can get 'm young, you can hook 'm for life!

I don't want to tell you I told you so but I told you so. Price point for the 2DS plus an AAA game (ie Pokemon X/Y) is trending towards 150 euro here and at that level it's a perfect fit for many stockings this Christmas.

I'd like to point out that nobody here knows the background story. If something really bad has happened to a child i for one am very happy that they decided to (temporarily?) pull the plug. "the media" would have a field day if they could link Nintendo to child abuse and it would do irreparable damage to Nintendo's family friendly reputation.

Lowest streetprice here in the Netherlands is now 122 euro for the 2DS by itself and 160 euro bundled with a game. I think a lot of kids here will get a 2DS and a Pokemon game from Santa Claus this year.

@eza you are right. If you don't defend your copyright, you basically create legal precedence for someone else to come in and use your IP as well.

When the Wii was launched the global economy was on top of the bubble and people had lots of disposable income. Things are a bit different now

Here in the Netherlands the usual release day for Nintendo products is Friday. Most stores receive their stock on Thursday and a lot of them put it on the shelves the same day. Same thing happened recently with the Zelda limited edition disc... come Friday morning most copies had already gone.

So what if the Wi U comes out on third place in this generation's sales figures? Nothing would change for us gamers, it's not a winner takes all situation. They'll just come up with something else and sooner or later they'll hit the jackpot again.
