A week ago, the Wii U received the first software update it had seen in awhile, and - you guessed it - it was another stability patch. For the majority of you, this changed absolutely nothing about the Wii U experience, but it sure feels good to know that the system is as stable as it gets. In light of this, some of you may have been worrying about how the 3DS is falling behind stability-wise, but Nintendo has come to save the day once again.
Nintendo 3DS Version 10.4.0-29 is now available for download and the patch details state that, "Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience." We can all let out that collective sigh we've been holding in, now; the 3DS is as stable as it's ever been.
What do you think? Are you glad this update went out? What other major features would you like to see in a future update? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

More stable than earth.
might be related to the hyrule warriors legends performance issues to help out the title when it releases for old 3ds. it won't make it run faster, just show a pop-up saying 'get a new 3ds' every few minutes.
2 video ads playing simultaneously on this page. Really?
Nintendo 3DS presents:
The Need for Stabilty, Stability Unleashed
XD
@hcfwesker This is why I never allowed an exception for AdBlocking this site.
Apparently this update does not allow users to play ironfall without updating so people who rely on ironhax for homebrew can't use it.
Confirmed hack related things:
Browserhax is removed
Ironhax is removed
ReiNAND is safe on 10.4
Sysupdater downgrading/upgrading supposely removed
Sucks for all those people who was waiting to downgrade.
@IceClimbers Ah, you beat me to it...
No wonder my 3DS was feeling slightly unstable earlier...
Another lol update blocking homebrew stuff.
Move along :v
Oh, and you can't launch Ironfall if you don't have the update. Doesn't do this for other games, so yeah
Good, I thought my 3DS was made of Carbon-14.
The question remains, though: Is it stable enough to play it underwater?
the game icons in my activity log on my n3ds are still disappearing and i have also experienced more frequent system crashes as well, particularly pokemon smd, that doesnt appear very stable to me.
its been happening since its launch... will nintendo ever address these real issues or are they too busy chasing ghosts instead of actual bugs?
They pretty much went through the effort of making a gross per-game hack instead of adding some needed functionality like region free. Congrats Nintendo.
My computer's internet browser crashed while I was downloading this update and I can only conclude the 3DS is now absorbing stability from other objects.
You do realise all they're doing with these updates is blocking homebrew.
@Chaoz It doesn't remove Ironhax, it just stops you using games that aren't updated, meaning you can't open Ironfall.
@SanderEvers What do you mean when you say "Good that Nintendo is trying to stop the pirates"? This update has nothing to do with piracy, it just stops homebrew access, and the Homebrew Launcher was specifically created to be against piracy. Can you not just say stuff without actually knowing what's going on.
well considering how I have games from all 3 regions that I play on my US system I won't be updating till browserhax/Ironhax is updated or Nintendo gives us region free..sucks for them since without access to the eShop I won't be spending anymore of my money to buy digital games till then.
@Dgrin If you haven't heard, IronFall invasion v1.0 or v1.1 cannot be booted on the 10.4 firmware.
It forces you to update to v1.2 if you want to play the game.
@Dgrin If you get OoT, you can use that.
@SakuraHaruka This is why Nintendo needs more of these stability updates because they can't handle the stable amount of stable puns!
Surely the 3DS is so stable at this point that you could stack a whole lot of books on it without fear of them stack toppling over.
Only the 3DS can stabilize the middle east! xD
All it does is give pirates more work, lol.
My 3ds is so stable now that I'm keeping horses in it. Thanks Nintendo, this is much cheaper than a ranch!
There too much Stable for it, it can never break
Wii U's turn next. Getting an update to NX. Not sure what it does though.
How about adding a needed feature (Play DSiWare from the SD card), instead of just ongoing anti-homebrew salvos? You did it for the Wii!
Out of all the stability updates we've seen, I can categorically state, without hyperbole, that this has been the best stability update ever. God bless Nintendo.
@twadezelda3dsxl
A vulnerability was found a couple of weeks ago using homebrew on 10.3 that allowed downgrading of firmware to 9.2, which in turn allowed installation of pirated games using a custom firmware and/or use of flashcarts. This most definitely was to do with blocking piracy imo, which is fair enough considering the potential monetary losses.
It isn't that stable. Neither is the Wii U's update.
@Sakura from what I gathered, people have been updating and all that stuff still works. I'm not updating cause I like menuhax too much.
@MajinCubyan
Homebrew access is blocked at the moment, though I would expect a workaround is already in progress. What people are able to do is update the emulated partition on their pirate-friendly consoles to 10.4. The system firmware will still be on 9.2 or lower. It's like having dual boot on a pc. People wanting region free is understandable, but the piracy aspects really hurt developers and game hacks/cheats render online play unfair. I expect more updates to follow pretty soon.
I actually want to keep my homebrew and IronHax stuff, and TBH, i've not seen much on the eShop, just lately to tempt me back to Nintendo's Collective. (I'm still looking forward to seeing what else Smealum can do with the exploit, I'm really liking being able to switch the New3DS CPU to the higher speed with many of the Old 3DS games, though not perfect)
Nintendo: COMPLY and become Stable with our update!!
ME: NO, I won't Comply!
@Sakura Yeah, thats what I meant. Those with emunand. I did that once for awhile but it was just so much of a hassle and it seems that people only really use it for pirating. Thats why I just stuck with *hax. That region free is so awesome.
Also, I think smea already updated the payloads to 10.4 so those with Cubic Ninja and OoT can still use homebrew.
"Stable like a table!"
If anybody here can make a meme of what I just said, I wanna see that.
My experience has been enhanced
For a while my old 3DS couldn't access the web browser but after this update it can. I guess that's good.... Except the browser on the old 3DS is kinda useless.
No, no, no! Stop it, Nintendo! You know not what you do! We are close to achieving critical mass stability! If that happens... IF THAT HAPPENS...!
The whole planet will be stabilized! ...You think that's good? No, it's not! This world is an ever changing mixture of ecosystems, which revolve through time cyclically, not linearly. If we become too stable... Time will be frozen! No growth, no death... Everything we know will cease to exist properly! The poles will get stuck, the Earth will stop rotating, stuck on a single, stable axis. We'll eventually be flung around the Sun's orbit, too far outside our Goldilocks zone, either burning or freezing everyone and everything to death!
You must stop this now, Nintendo! Before it is too late! The fate of the world is in your hands! Don't leave luck to heaven with this one!
My streetpass puzzle swap isn't letting me get more pieces, it just lets me view only 7. I had about 20 on there with ~1500 pieces. There is a silver star medal on the icon. Help
@Xenoblade97 Sounds like some of your extdata is missing or corrupt. The hits and accomplishments are stored in the system itself (hence the medal), with the puzzles and game data being in extra data on the sd card. If you've recently done a transfer, just put the old sd card into the new console. If not, try reinserting the sd card. If you ever did a backup in extra data management, you could restore that. You could also try deleting the extra data in data management to reset to zero if all else fails.
People who cheated in Badge Arcade are reporting bans on 10.4 for that game. Lack of options on the new Pokemon VC games too. Seems like Nintendo finally is really meaning business here. They really ought to have done this ages ago. Implementing it in Shuffle would have stopped all those ridiculously high scores.
HEY GUYS.
NOT ONLY STABILITY UPDATE but also ESHOP REGION SUPPORT ( iam able to create accout here in SLOVAKIA )
You didn't use mario and his hammer?
WHY? I feel so disappointed.
@SanderEvers @Iwadezelda3dsxl
I was pretty happy with the Region-free option and the HANS patching (using it for Level-5 japanese audio tracks). But after I lost my console, I had to rely on piracy (emulated nands etc) to have this on the more recent console I bought simply because I could not use the old Youtube and Ironfall to install/start the unauthorized code.
I did not ask for that, it gives me a lot of games to play without paying but if I had wished for it, I would have bought a new system earlier.
PS: I still have no game's CIA, the only things I downloaad are some uncompressed files of some RPGs
Just make it region free already, and support homebrew software officially.
Too late nintendo, I just downgraded my Special Edition MH4U New 3DS XL from 10.3 to 9.2. Gateway MasterRace. muahahah
I'm going to have to name my system Elliot Stabler then
@hcfwesker that's why i use adblock
I've never had an update for my GameBoy Pocket
