@ItsOKToBeOK "Sonic games NEVER worked in 3D, why would a movie?"
Wether Sonic worked in 3D games or not is arguable, but to say a movie can't work because it's Sonic + 3D is... quite literally the most close-minded thing i've ever read?
The 3D games """don't work""" supposedly because of budget/time issues that come from the fact that Sonic has to move at high-speeds, and many other design problems (which i'd rather call design challanges). But all of that is only applicable to games, none of this is even remotely an issue in movies, movies are a thing you watch, you can't say "this movie has bad controls" or "this movie has bad level design" or "this movie is buggy and has low framerates".
Honestly, your point about 3D Sonic movies not working just gives me the impression you haven't played or even watched a 3D Sonic game, which i wouldn't accuse you of, but that's how i feel.
@JHDK This "rando Aussie fan" is a professional game developer that happened to have studied how classic Sonic games work in every aspect and managed to replicate the first 2 games for mobile devices perfectly (or even better).
My point being, he isn't just a "rando Aussie fan", he's quite qualified for the job. Let's not pretend any fan can make a game as good as Sonic Mania.
@Yosher As far as i know, Paper Jam isn't that good of a game because the original plot it was going to have turned out to be too much of a mess, so they had to heavily simplify it. And honestly, it's the only bad M&L game they've made IMO.
As for the remakes, i'm pretty sure they were just trying to get more games to extend the 3DS's life span, doesn't mean they ran out of ideas, they just didn't want to spend too many resources on, what many people say is, a dying console.
It was reported a few months ago that Alphadream is making a game for the Switch, it might not be M&L, but this gives me hope we'll get a new one for the Switch.
@Lizuka The OC is fine, as he pretty much plays like Sonic except for having a weapon instead of boosting.
The problem was Classic Sonic, who not only was useless in this game's plot, but also played badly with bad controls and super basic level design.
If they didn't bother shoehorning Classic Sonic, then maybe Forces would've turned out better, simply because there would be more Sonic/OC gameplay, possibly also having longer levels..
@SuperGhirahim64 @Sgt-Jack-V @Heavyarms55 Adding an already established character would actually take way more work, as the different proportions would directly affect both the animations and gameplay, which would require a lot of adjustments in order for everything to work properly. This is all much harder than simply taking the player-character-model and applying a different material to it. And mind you, all this work would have to be added on top of the actual co-op system.
The developers probably thought it would be too much work for little pay-off.
@kozaihod It should be noted that Monster Boy is a multi-platform game, with the PC version coming later. The only sales they will lose will be Switch sales
@JaxonH Actually Telltale was starting to improve with Batman S2 (which generally seems to be higher quality than a lot of their recent games, and also has 2 completely different Episodes 5 depending on your choices), and i heard good things about TWD: The Final Season too. So the quality of the games was finally rising, but sadly, this whole mess happened.
@saintayu But the games were starting to get better starting with Batman S2 (Where depending on your choices you can get an entirely different Episode 5) and the new CEO. The Telltale company was finally going back to the right direction when it comes to their games, but apparently it was either too late, or its because of that lawsuit, EDIT: or both.
@thesilverbrick Not to be harsh or anything, but you shouldn't use a single review to base your own point of view. Try reading other reviews to see if a game is worth your attention or not. (You don't need to, i'm just saying this because you might miss on the chance of playing a game that you would enjoy)
@Reignmaker "I assume choices from the first game are supposed to carry over, so I'll probably have to play it again."
There is another way, when starting an episode in any Season 2 of a Telltale Game, you can either, as you said, carry the save from the previous season, or you can use a choice generator (for example if you killed X person in the previous season, you launch the choice generator and then you just tell it that you killed X person.)
@Wanjia The problem lies within the fact that the ex-CEO was unwilling to change the Telltale engine to something better. I'm not sure why though, maybe he was proud of it or something. (Note that the new CEO is the source of all the better decisions Telltale has made recently)
@KingdomHeartsFan I'm pretty sure the Telltale Engine is worse than Unity.
Unity seems to run bad on Switch (or so i've heard), but Telltale Engine runs bad in all consoles and i'm pretty sure PC too.
@AlternateButtons "There was always zero excuse for this NOT to come to the Switch". There WAS an excuse though: Nintendo Switch is not compatible with UE3. It's common misconception that because Switch has UE4 support it would support UE3, but that's not the case, the two engine "versions" are actually very different and adding support to one wouldn't automatically result in support for the other.
And yes i know, Rocket League was also an UE3 game and it got a Switch version, but that game got an dedicated porting team.
As for the current situation, nobody really knows why a Switch port is now possible, it's possible that they hired a dedicated team to port htis game too.
Also you're talking about what the guy that runs the AHiT twitter said. One thing you're not considering though is that he is not the only guy involved in the developer team, so you're calling an entire developer team lazy (when quite literally, they made one of the best kickstarter 3d platformer games in recent years) because of what a single guy said.
Also the fact that he was directly stating that a Switch version would never come might actually hint there was a disconnection between his words and what Gears For Breakfast actually had in mind.
Anyway, don't call an entire team greedy and lazy because of the actions of a single guy.
@Morph The twitter guy never said anything rude, he was always just clarifying that there were no plans for Switch (obviously that changed, but the point is, he wasn't rude)
But you might be talking about the developer Jonas Kaerlev (MekuCube). Well firstly, he is a single developer in a entire team, when buying this game you wouldn't be supporting just him. Secondly, his bad actions were made in 2012, 6 years ago, in 6 years things can change, and they probably changed. Nowadays there is no real evidence that Jonas is doing anything like what he did back then, quite the opposite, he is actually a pretty nice guy on the A Hat in Time discord. He answers questions, he chats and he also helps the modding community (fixing bugs in some cases).
@Grant007 All characters work the same when it comes to controller input. There's not a whole lot of combos to memorize afaik, you just have to memorize each ability.
@Spectra I mean, the guy literally said that he wouldn't put any extra characters in the movie. It wouldn't be like Other M.
And personally i really dislike the mindset that a video game movie can't work... just because it's based off a video game.
The reason why many (or all) video game movies suck is because of one of the following reaons:
1. The movie is misdirected, bad decisions are made that make any bad movie a bad movie. This isn't exclusive to video game movies, this applies to MANY modern films that are displayed on theaters. If the movie has bad acting, horrible CGI or terrible writing, then it's going to suck, regardless if it's based off a video game or not.
2. The video game it's based off doesn't translate well into the medium. A movie, in order to be good, needs to have a compelling universe and engaging characters. When the movie is based off a video game, or for that matter, anything, it's limited to the rules of the universe of that. That's why, for example, a movie based on Pong can't work. For characters we have two squares, for a universe we have another square, for a situation these characters confront we have a ball that bounces. Now try to work with that into a 90-minute video.
We have many examples of games that could translate into a movie. Those generally have everything a movie needs: A compelling universe and engaging characters. Sometimes even the art style could stay the same.
Heck, even the Sonic movie doesn't have to be bad. It'll probably be, because it seems to be misdirected (Movie is not suitable for kids, live-action), but the games already have a universe to work with, and throughout the series we have characters that have reached their peak in terms of being engaging. And the movie doesn't necessarely need to copy everything, what is bad can be changed.
Now the question is, if video game movies don't need to be bad, then why in the heck all of they are? First off, not all of those movies are bad, there are a few examples of movies that range from average to decent. Other than that though, all i can say is... it's just a horrible coincidence. Sounds lame, but really that's it. It just so happens that most of those people that direct video game movies just care about the money, that's why so many of them suck. All of what i'm trying to say here is that they don't have to suck, it's just that most of the time they do.
As for Metroid, we have seen examples of Alien movies that tend to be successful, pretty sure it can work with Samus's games, a few changes may be necessary, but the idea can certainly work if executed right.
@Syrek24 Honestly you generalize hackers way too much.
I just want to point out that there are hackers out there that do no harm to anyone (like the one in this article), and are in no way terrible people. In fact they just want to have fun with their games, which is in no way a bad thing.
Modding/Hacking without harming anyone is not a crime (Especially modding, how do you think something as simple as asset replacements is a crime or harms anyone?), it's only harmful when the hacking is online and affects others.
@Zyph I don't disagree, my problem with pullmyfinger's comment is that he is saying emulation is all about piracy, but emulation is only used by piracy.
I don't disagree with your comment at all, but unfortunately, not everyone has the skills to make an emulator themselves. It's probably much harder than making a game.
@Jop "How is swapping models harmless?" I mean offline. Nobody is getting hurt by the actions of someone in his Switch, as long as it doesn't affect other switches.
"How are ROM-dumps not piracy?" They are not piracy as long as you don't put it on the internet.
And in order to even dump the ROM you need both the console and the game.
@pullmyfinger I already told you before, Emulators are just tools to play ROMS, emulators in no way promote piracy.
It doesn't matter if most people who use emulators are pirates, the intentions of the people who make those emulators are to preserve the games released to a console, and also to make it possible to play those games in a higher resolution.
@LUIGITORNADO @Slasher Stop generalizing. Some hackers just want to have fun and do harmless things like swapping assets and whatnot. As long as it's all offline or with only your friends, it's fine.
Why should those who don't harm anyone be seem as villains?
@Nintendoforlife They aren't. Hackers are not a hivemind, there are those who hurt others and there are those who do harmless things like swapping models.
I just want to clarify, that my intentions aren't to whine and drive this site down to the ground (although the last line of my comment may come off as harsh, and it was not needed). I'm just giving some criticism so that i can come in this site and hopefully get what i expect out of it. If you're fine with the article, okay, but honestly if i wanted to hear more about Fortnite i would go to a site that talks about stuff like this.
Even if the rumour is very likely to be true, the game is not yet confirmed for the Switch. I just find it weird that when in a site about Nintendo, we talk about a game as if it was definitely confirmed for a Nintendo platform.
Anyway, it's just that i noticed a decline in quality recently. News being reported late, articles that basically have no reason to be here, and i just want a little more quality in this site.
"Based on the information that’s surfaced over the past few weeks, it appears Fortnite will arrive on the Nintendo Switch eShop at some point during this year’s E3."
Well, guess what, it's not officialy announced. Therefore, this article right here is useless, and is not Nintendo-related whatsoever.
Rumours are acceptable, because there's a chance it's real, but this article right here has two problems:
1. It's completely random, this wouldn't be a problem but:
2. It's using a rumour as an excuse so that it can exist.
Nintendo Life, i came here to see if there's any Nintendo-related news, or a review of a game that is published on the Switch/3DS, because this is a Nintendo centred website, it's called Nintendo Life after all, right?
But no, what i got is an article about a game that's not even officialy announced for any Nintendo platform. And what is the excuse for the existence of this article? A rumour? Seriously?
@pullmyfinger "Do you need an education? And emulator is designed to take ROMS of video games and play them for free"
You're completely wrong. Let me fix that for you:
"And emulator is designed to take ROMS of video games and SIMPLY play them."
An Emulator is an Emulator, a ROM is a ROM. The job of an Emulator is to play ROMS.
In no way, shape, or form Emulators are designed for piracy, they are simply tools for you to play a game.
There are many pirated ROMS on the internet, and they are compatible with emulators, but the emulators and creators of those emulators are not the ones that pirate the games.
In case you didn't know, you can also get these ROMS legally, by dumping them to your computer.
People pirate ROMS, Emulators play ROMS, they are not magically going to detect if those ROMS are illegal or not, they simply play them, that's what they are designed for.
@thesilverbrick I think you're over-exaggerating when saying this game is casual-only. I really like Pokemon games, i like all the depht and choice that those games offer. But i still like what i'm seeing of this game. The multiplayer especially excites me.
Besides, you don't know how much they removed from the game. I'm pretty sure they didn't say they were removing online features. (The guy that reported there would be no online features was actually mistranslating)
@Spectra What? We didn't even see any footage. Actually, there are screenshots, but since this is a racing game, we have to see it in motion.
Seriously, it's not just because it's Sonic that the game will be bad, there are different teams behind different games. (In this case we have Sumo Digital)
Normally the header of a review in this site is basically a sum up of the reviewer's opinion, which made me believe this was going to be a negative review lol
@Heavyarms55 "Yeah he wrote the mod code, but the base game is straight from Nintendo, and all the original models from the original game as well. Think of it like this, Toyota buys a bunch of Ford cards, swaps out the transmissions and puts in a new stereo systems and then tries to sell them as their products and does it all without permission from Ford. It is still 90% a Ford product."
Except this analogy doesn't apply here. Net64+ (the tool that adds multiplayer to the game) only adds stuff for the game. The tool has absolutely no codes or assets from the base game, instead, the tool injects it's 100% custom-made assets in the game while it's running.
And the only way the game can be "running" is if you have the rom of the game, and you emulate it. If you don't have the rom of the game, you can't emulate it, and this leaves Net64+ to be completely useless, because the custom code and assets will not work if the game is not running.
If it's illegal, then why didn't Nintendo take down the hosted files of the tool itself (back when it was the original release)? They took down the Patreon and the Video, which is completely fair, i won't argue against that, but they didn't take down the download links for the tool, which means the link was still completely acessible, and you could still download and use SM64O.
But if the tool itself is illegal, why did Nintendo let it live?
If i had to guess, it would be because the tool itself doesn't have any stolen assets inside it. The characters inside the tool, which are custom-made, are sent to the emulator running the game. All game modes, PvP, the online functionality, and whatever code is used, it's all made by the creator(s) of the tool, all those things are sent through signals to the emulator, and the game acts as if those assets were always in there, but they weren't.
So what does that mean? You need to have a rom of the game in order for the tool to be usable. The rom can be ilegally downloaded, but that has nothing to do with this tool. You can be a complete pirate, but the tool itself has nothing to do with that. And since the rom can be obtained through legal means, and is not only obtainable via pirating, then that means this tool is perfectly legal.
Besides, if i'm completely wrong and Nintendo is allowed to take this down, should they? People like to use the "if they don't, their rights can be stolen", but afaik this only applies to fan-projects that would, theoretically, get way too much attention. This one in particular isn't, at least not as much as it was getting before (espcially because it's now called Net64, instead of SM64Online).
So hear me out: if this has no chances of significantly impacting Nintendo's profits, or get Nintendo's rights stolen, then why ruin the fun? Everyone who is playing this is having fun, and would get upset if Nintendo took it down. In cases like Pokemon Uranium and similiar, where the project gets far too much attention, it's understanble (even if upsetting) that Nintendo takes those things down. But right here, we have a project that didn't blow up the internet or anything, it's getting some attention, but not nearly as much as it was before (and then was "taken down").
So really, why do you let yourself get bothered about this? It's not hurting Nintendo, it's not hurting anyone, it's not hurting you. So why should any action be taken? Let people have their fun, isn't this what games are about?

Re: Random: Splatoon 2 Player Hacks In-Game Leaderboard To Send Nintendo A Message
Wheter you agree or not with this guy's actions, at the very least we know that Nintendo has seen the message.
Re: Mario & Luigi Developer AlphaDream Recruiting Graphic Designers For Switch And Smartphone Projects
This comment section made me forget i was on a Mario & Luigi article lol.
Anyway, i hope this is true, hopefully it's a new game and not a remake
Re: Hackers Have Now Found A Way To Emulate Nintendo 64 Games On Switch
@Syrek24 Honestly you generalize hackers way too much.
I just want to point out that there are hackers out there that do no harm to anyone (like the one in this article), and are in no way terrible people. In fact they just want to have fun with their games, which is in no way a bad thing.
Modding/Hacking without harming anyone is not a crime (Especially modding, how do you think something as simple as asset replacements is a crime or harms anyone?), it's only harmful when the hacking is online and affects others.
Re: Splatoon 2 Hackers Are Forcing Unreleased Content Onto Other Players
@Zyph I don't disagree, my problem with pullmyfinger's comment is that he is saying emulation is all about piracy, but emulation is only used by piracy.
I don't disagree with your comment at all, but unfortunately, not everyone has the skills to make an emulator themselves. It's probably much harder than making a game.
Re: Splatoon 2 Hackers Are Forcing Unreleased Content Onto Other Players
@Jop "How is swapping models harmless?" I mean offline. Nobody is getting hurt by the actions of someone in his Switch, as long as it doesn't affect other switches.
"How are ROM-dumps not piracy?" They are not piracy as long as you don't put it on the internet.
And in order to even dump the ROM you need both the console and the game.
Re: Splatoon 2 Hackers Are Forcing Unreleased Content Onto Other Players
@pullmyfinger I already told you before, Emulators are just tools to play ROMS, emulators in no way promote piracy.
It doesn't matter if most people who use emulators are pirates, the intentions of the people who make those emulators are to preserve the games released to a console, and also to make it possible to play those games in a higher resolution.
Re: Splatoon 2 Hackers Are Forcing Unreleased Content Onto Other Players
@LUIGITORNADO @Slasher Stop generalizing. Some hackers just want to have fun and do harmless things like swapping assets and whatnot. As long as it's all offline or with only your friends, it's fine.
Why should those who don't harm anyone be seem as villains?
Re: Splatoon 2 Hackers Are Forcing Unreleased Content Onto Other Players
@Nintendoforlife They aren't. Hackers are not a hivemind, there are those who hurt others and there are those who do harmless things like swapping models.
Re: Hackers Create A Way To Replace Models And Text In Switch Games
@Cosats They changed the Moon collectible to a Shine Sprite?
What a crime!
Re: Nintendo Confirms Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Is A "Brand New Game", Not A Wii U Port
No, i don't believe this for a second
The sky is blue and Super Mario 64 is a port of Super Mario World
Re: Random: This Fan-Made KFC Fortnite Skin Is A Finger Lickin’ Nightmare
@Ttimer5 I already clarified my stance in comment #38
I'm not mad or anything
Re: Random: This Fan-Made KFC Fortnite Skin Is A Finger Lickin’ Nightmare
@MaSSiVeRiCaN @Savino @clvr @MegaMari0 @BionicDodo @ZeldaToThePast @antdickens @Liam_Doolan
Re: Random: This Fan-Made KFC Fortnite Skin Is A Finger Lickin’ Nightmare
A rumour? Seriously?
Re: Just How Good Is The Nvidia Shield Wii Emulator, And What Does It Mean For Switch Owners?
Re: Nintendo's Share Price Sees Dramatic Rise After Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee Reveals
Re: Team Sonic Racing Arrives This Winter With Sumo Digital In The Driving Seat
@Spectra What? We didn't even see any footage. Actually, there are screenshots, but since this is a racing game, we have to see it in motion.
Seriously, it's not just because it's Sonic that the game will be bad, there are different teams behind different games. (In this case we have Sumo Digital)
Re: Review: Runner3 (Switch)
Normally the header of a review in this site is basically a sum up of the reviewer's opinion, which made me believe this was going to be a negative review lol
Re: Domains For Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu And Pokémon Let's Go Eevee Appeared!
@thesilverbrick "It’s the integration of features from Pokémon GO, which is a sad, lifeless mockery of the original games."
sigh Look, just because they are going to implement a feature inspired by Pokemon GO, doesn't mean the ENTIRE THING is going to be Pokemon GO.
I'm so tired of this overreaction.
Re: Fan-Made 'Super Mario 64 Online' Returns, And Now You Can Play As Sonic
Re: Fan-Made 'Super Mario 64 Online' Returns, And Now You Can Play As Sonic
@chardir @Heavyarms55
