Re: Soapbox: Playing Super Mario Sunshine Today Painfully Illustrates Nintendo's 3D Evolution

MetaSmasher

Comparing Sunshine to games released years after it is clearly not fair. Compare it to SM64, Rare's games, any 5th/early 6th gen platformer. In that context it certainly doesn't have the best camera and controls, but was by no means below average. Sunshine has always felt more personal to me than the subsequent outings, which were just level by level, which is fine, but Sunshine has so much more atmosphere, and that makes it special.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think of the Nintendo Switch?

MetaSmasher

I like where this console is headed, glad that it looks like Nintendo is keeping relevant. I won't get one at launch, though. I'm not playing games as much as I did before university, so I'm not buying new games for now. Also I don't understand how it can run at high quality on the go, they can't build something with the power of a Wii U or PS4 into that little screen-controller thing. I just hope it works like they say.

Re: Review: Paper Mario: Color Splash (Wii U)

MetaSmasher

Hmm, still not sold. To me the story and combat are the most important parts of Paper Mario, and this says they're still lacking. Plus I'm still getting over my disappointment with Paper Jam. That game was just really boring to me. Maybe I need more of a challenge to be interested than I was when I was younger.

Re: A New Pikmin Game is Coming to 3DS

MetaSmasher

Hopefully we get another main Pikmin for NX, but a spin-off might be the best fit for the less powerful 3DS. If it gets good reviews and the gameplay sounds good, then I'll be happy to get it.

Re: The Man Who Humbled Nintendo In The '90s Has Returned To The Video Game Arena

Having read Console Wars, Kalinske seems like a very interesting man, and I wish him the best. And as to Aerona's comment right above, he hasn't fallen. From what I know of Kalinske, he loves building companies from small to big, working with underdogs, like Sega was when he started there, and he's done it a number of times. Besides, he surely could have gotten a job at a big company if he'd wanted to. The man's a legend, not just for Sega, but for Barbie and more.

Re: Nintendo is Making a Subtle Shift in Company Focus

MetaSmasher

I don't know if that makes sense from my perspective. I mean, tons of people recognize Mario, Pokemon, even Zelda, and are familiar with the Wii, DS, Gameboy. People are very aware of Nintendo already. I don't see how making them simply more aware is necessarily going to make people want to buy Nintendo products more.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo UK Hints at More Mario Kart 8 DLC

MetaSmasher

I'm down for another dlc pack. I don't have any specific old tracks in mind, but a Splatoon track would be welcome. I really think for the next entry they should have more non-Mario tracks and characters. There are so many tracks that are re-hashes or not that exciting in concept, so basing them on other games like they did with dlc would be very welcome.

Re: Poll: Are You Excited About Nintendo's Expanded E3 Plans?

MetaSmasher

While it's good at isn't just Zelda, now it's pretty much just Zelda and Pokemon. Considering I'm not interested in Pokemon much anymore, the other games don't interest me either, and I don't want to spoil Zelda, I may not watch at all. There may be some surprise announcements though, which could be good.

Re: Poll: The Wii U GamePad - Where Do You Stand on Nintendo's Hefty Controller?

MetaSmasher

I love the GamePad. The motion controls for Splatoon, touch for Super Mario Maker, the map in Pikmin 3, and many more make great use of its special features. The buttons and sticks are great for regular games (WAY better than the crappy wiimote, on par with the GameCube controller imo). And I don't see how it holds anything back, except that friends have to use wiimotes instead of the GamePad, and that can often be an unfair disadvantage.

Re: Feature: Five Reasons Why We Love Animal Crossing

I tried Wild World like a decade ago, and I don't remember it well (I sold it) but I didn't like it very much. I sort of feel like I should give it another chance whenever the next one comes out, but I'm not really into the kind of games where you do a little bit every day over an extended period of time, and games that are addicting. So maybe I shouldn't try it.
