Re: Nintendo Life Weekly: Star Fox Zero may be Delayed Again According to Rumours, Nintendo Selects and More

@Einherjar Fair enough. We can agree to disagree. For the record I don't think bikinis are over the top in a volleyball game and I'm far from easily offended. I watch and enjoy anime so I've seen all the panty shots, heaving breasts, and uncomfortably sexed up young looking girls you can shake a stick at. The petting minigame would have been utterly pointless, but I thought it was far more dumb than offensive.

Either way thanks for the polite and well worded debate. You are a clearly an intelligent individual and I enjoyed speaking with you.

@Einherjar If this stuff wasn't removed the backlash to it would be far greater than any upset fans about the content removed. The original is still out there, this is simply localization. Some stuff that flies in Japan just doesn't here, dating SIM content simply isn't popular and that homophobic anime trope cutscene would play terribly to the media. Neither of them were needed and don't have any real impact to the game.

You keep saying we don't need to look at what is cut, but that simply isn't true. In order to gauge a reaction we need to know what a person is reacting to in the first place. This stuff doesn't exist in a void and I think it's fair to say that this is a case where the outrage over what is removed is far exaggerated when you consider what was removed.

Just like with Xenoblade people were upset because they took out some outfits for a scantily clad underage character. This is something that is no big deal in Japan. Here it would be considered perverse and taboo by a large majority. The boob slider being removed was odd, but again it's such a small thing it's like being upset that not all the hair options made it over here.

The loud minority that is upset about this are exactly that: a minority. My original point was there was no debacle surrounding FE, certainly nothing they need to recover from.

@Einherjar I stand by my previous statement. The minigame and the terrible subplot that were cut is what people were upset about. The kind of person who would really say I'm not playing this game because I can't pet my digital characters while they coo at me didn't want to play Fire Emblem. FE is a strategy game, not a dating sim, so that's a very weird place to draw a line in the sand. That is why it's such a nontroversy. If we had a situation where it was a hardcore Mature game and that revolves around violence and they cut out all blood I could see people being upset about this. If this was dating SIM and they removed that part I could see people getting upset. This though? Really? It never belonged in the game in the first place and it's very good they took it out. We are getting a better version of this game because of its removal.

@LinkSword Artificially making a stage difficult so that an individual in order to beat it has to ram their head over and over into it in order to beat it is not intuitive. I guarantee if I was inclined I could play that stage over and over again and eventually beat it. The article itself talks about making a stage so hard he is trolling himself so I don't think I'm off point saying that the point of the stage is making a really hard level and not necessarily a balanced or well designed one.

@Einherjar Fire Emblem debacle? Hopefully we aren't talking about the pet my waifu mode that was taken out? If anyone cancelled their preorder based on that they weren't interested in playing the game in the first place. Also, a few loud internet complainers does not a debacle make. From every press preview it looks like the game is going to be a critical homerun and will likely repeat or improve upon Awakening's success.

Re: Video: Climbing Vines Has Never Been so Tough Thanks to This Super Mario Maker Level

MailOrderNinja

@LinkSword First you have no idea whether I could beat it or not. Second, I didn't mean to insinuate that it wasn't well made, but it is irritating that all people seem to want to highlight are either auto run stages or stupid hard levels that aren't anything a real game designer would make. That's because games, especially Mario games, are about more than neiner neiner you can't beat my ridicously hard stage.

Re: Bravely Second "Tomahawk" Costume Change Confirmed For The West

MailOrderNinja

@Moon Many Native Americans are offended by this kind of thing the same as they are by the over the top Indian chief in something like Peter Pan or the mascot of popular football teams. Depending on how the individual acted while having this costume on it would be the same as having a black class who was a stereotype.

We don't generally find it offensive because Native Americans are a dying race and there aren't enough true survivors of the tribes left that most of us don't feel the need to censor this kind of thing.

Re: IHS Technology Adds to Speculation of an NX Portable Release in 2016

@Octane True, nobody doubts Zelda U will be a GOTY experience. I hope Star Fox is stellar, we've just seen no proof of such. We know Pokken is going to be good as it's already out in arcades and apparently loved enough to be in fighting tourneys.

Still we knew about Splatoon already by 2015 same with Mario Maker and Xenoblade as they were announced E3 prior to release. We have nothing announced past Star Fox. My argument is that they are seriously ramping down likely for the NX. Why else give nobody faith in a Wii U lineup past April?

Re: IHS Technology Adds to Speculation of an NX Portable Release in 2016

MailOrderNinja

@Octane I can see myself coming off like that, but I love Splatoon, Super Mario Maker and Xenoblade and play them on a regular basis. I can't see any of the games you mention rising to same level of hype as the biggest among them, StarFox, was universally panned even by Nintendo's biggest fans. Splatoon and Mario Maker were the opposite everyone who played them loved them right away.

Even so I don't think they can afford to limp along another year.

Re: IHS Technology Adds to Speculation of an NX Portable Release in 2016

MailOrderNinja

@Octane Out of those you have the FE crossover which looks like a bizarre crossover game that even people who played it don't know what it is, incredibly niche either way. Then we have a remake, what looks to be a flop with Star Fox, a rumored Paper Mario (which may not even happen), Pokken Tournament (which even with Pokemon seems niche) and a Zelda game, if it ever comes out.

That's not promising when you have absolutely 0 third party support.

Re: IHS Technology Adds to Speculation of an NX Portable Release in 2016

MailOrderNinja

@Mario-Man-Child Sounds logical, but I'm really hoping you are wrong. If Star Fox Zero (which by every account isn't looking good), Zelda U and a possible Paper Mario is all they have lined up its going to be a rough year. Really I think their absolute best bet is to get a new console out this year, one that isn't woefully underpowered and is easy to develop for. They need third party support and need it yesterday. They make some of the best games in the business, but when you only have 3 or 4 of those a year that isn't good.

Love your forum name btw.

Re: IHS Technology Adds to Speculation of an NX Portable Release in 2016

MailOrderNinja

@Mario-Man-Child I would be surprised if nothing comes out this year. We have nothing on the AWII u front and the system is ready to be out to pasture. Even with the jam packed early half for 3DS those numbers are on decline also. Nintendo would be very foolish if they didn't do something and soon. We know that dev kits are already in hand and have been for quite a while now and they wouldn't be if we weren't looking at a release till next year.

Re: Fire Emblem Fates Removes 'Petting' Feature in Western Localisation

MailOrderNinja

@Hy8ogen I read it again and I'm confused. Said just what I thought it did. You are going to cancel preorder and buy game used so Nintendo can't get your money because a petting minigame was removed. I stand by my original comment. This minigame has nothing to do with the genre and shouldn't have been included anyway. Play a dating sim if it's so important to you.
