Re: I Grew Up With Nintendo And Will Respect Its Traditions, Says New President Shuntaro Furukawa

Him being fluent in English is an exciting thing, because it knocks down a small barrier for English audiences by giving us a face for a Direct that can communicate fluently in both directs. On top of that it sounds like he is a melding of old school sensibility with an eye toward the future, a game and businessman.

Considering he has had a hand in the thus far stellar marketing of Switch, I'm excited to see where he take the company.

@SmaggTheSmug If there is such a thing, he did it to himself. For over a year and a half now, and well into his campaign also, every time the man has opened his mouth something terrible comes out. Every week, 2 or 3 times, he does or says something that would ruin any former President. Nothing he has done since in office has been good.

If you beat a dog enough, eventually it's going to assume your intentions are bad when you go to pet it.

@onex SoTC is $40. I get what you are saying with Kirby, but I don't think anyone would ever argue that they are masterpieces. Even the most hardcore of Nintendo fans may like Kirby games, maybe even love them, but I don't think I've ever heard anyone say it's their best game ever played.

I have heard that with SoTC.

But to each their own, it sounds like with your friends coming over it might be more for you than SoTC. Personally I still find great value in single player games.

That said I'm skipping it too. Picking up the amazing looking Ni No Kuni 2 next and then God of War next. Looks like my Switch will be purely portable indies for a while.

I love Nintendo. This last year I played my Switch more than PS4 and Xbox One combined. They had one of the most amazing years I've ever seen from them.

They've got a wave of new fans commuted and ready for what's next and everyone is really hyped on the Switch.

I don't think this is going to end well. What you have is a bunch of people thinking thia is Nintendo's new groove and expect it to continue, but the way development works it can't possibly.

We had almost no games on the Wii U at the end because they were holding on to games and building for the Switch. These games took years to develop and now they are out of heavy hitters.

Currently their line up is B Listers like Kirby and Yoshi, an overpriced Tropical Freeze port, and Tennis. To us hardcore fans we know this sounds like a good slate of games, but they can't hope to compare to what these new fans expect after last year.

We know nothing about FE so I'll believe 2018 when they give me a release date and Metroid and Pokemon this year is a pipe dream at best. Smash might be able to swing as a big game if it's a port, but if new game we wont see it this year either.

Personally I have plenty to play between my systems and I'm not worried about running out of experiences, but people expecting a 2017 redux are in for a real shock.

Re: Video: Not Everyone Is Pleased With Nintendo Labo

MailOrderNinja

Labo is not this genius thing that only Nintendo could have thought of that is going to change the world.

Labo is also not garbage overpriced cardboard that is taking away from our games.

It is somewhere in the middle. Something that people will buy their children, maybe even me, that judging from what we've seen of the games, they'll play for a week and never touch again.

This is our new card reader.

@JasmineDragon I don't know who you are referencing because they have huge brickcons where the whole point is custom designs, people nonstop post custom creations and kids (mine included) eventually tear down that bespoke kit and use those pieces to create their own things.

It's the biggest market for Lego. They even have portions of their store where you can buy the exact pieces you need to construct your thing.

Lego is still completely about creativity, but unlike cardboard creating additional waste recyclable or not I can pass down to my kids and they can pass down to thiers because they are indestructible through standard play.

Re: Talking Point: The Case for Super Mario Odyssey as the Greatest Mario Game

MailOrderNinja

I think regardless of it is the best Mario it is one of the best games of the year hands down. Only BoTW tops it for me.

It is the best in my opinion though. I think a lot of people give World and 3 the nostalgia bump when they consider them. They are certainly masterclasses, but I think this is the culmination of everything the team has learned with Mario.

That being said it's all down to preference.

Re: Review: Wulverblade (Switch eShop)

@PlayedNSlayed I bought Flame in the Flood on Xbox and I really liked some parts, especially the music. The biggest problem with it is that even for a Rogue like everything was just too random. Things you absolutely needed you may get a run where you don't see them for a long time and it can make runs impossible.

Re: Retail Version of DOOM on Switch Will Need a Download for Online Multiplayer

MailOrderNinja

@Crono1973 I enjoy debating, so I hope you take this as a simple friendly discussion.

Again I think we are talking about 2 different things. This article is about having to download a portion of Doom, the MP portion to be specific, that you have to be online to play. The whole SP campaign is on the cart, so the only people who would care are the omes upset they have to DL MP which you would need to be online to play anyway.

I get the space issue, again one could argue this is simply gaming. Switch owners have it good, I buy all physical when I can because it drastically reduced how much space I need. I have to constantly rotate my games on my PS4 because I only have 500 gigs and you have to install every game (physical or not). I don't think this is the degradation of gaming. Honestly it is simply where we are at with all media pretty much. Digital is the future and one could argue the present. You can fight it, Sure, but it is a losing battle. Progress will continue with or without you.

As for microtransactions again, we agree. I dislike them, they are too prevalent in Games, and I wish they would go away. This discussion isn't about this. It is about downloading a portion of a game.
