Re: Review: Gorogoa (Switch eShop)

I believe $10 would have been a much friendlier and easygoing entry level price point. However, I'm certain Dev porting costs more as well. It's not like these guys (In this case one guy) are doing the porting in house or themselves. So hiring a company to port a game I'm sure has a pretty price tag on it.

Not saying it's ok to charge 3x as much but I can guarantee you that you can't compare prices on an app store to a console platform. Most games are freemium models and fixed price tags are frowned upon and rarely make any decent money.

Also easy to scoff at prices as a consumer when behind the scenes most people have no idea how much it costs to contract companies, developers, publishers and such and want a game to be the same across the board when in reality it's near impossible unless you have big publisher capital such as Square-Enix and EA.

Absolutely had become my favorite Co-op party game on Switch and even single player is a blast to play. Seriously a complete package of a game and one of my best purchases.

@KIRO I’d say for 7 years of your life dedicated to a project what he’s charging isn’t bad . On my App Store I did see it for $5 but again the mobile market is 20-30x larger and people don’t pay on those platforms.

We saw what happens when someone charges $10 there with Mario Run. If it wasn’t Nintendo there’s no way in hell SMR would have sold as much as it did.

Game looked truly beautiful in motion and glad it got a great review and is a unique experience unlike anything before it. Love games that are fresh, try out new things and/or push the boundaries of its genre whether through storytelling or gameplay. Look forward to playing this one and since it’s short I don’t mind it’s going to take up much of my time although like everyone else I would like it to be $5 I’ll pay the $10 to support a good game.

@SeriousSam @Galenmereth DF praised the game for its performance with a clean mostly locked 30fps, and a port that was optimized and done with the consoles strengths, while assets were added as well. I’m not sure if you guys are playing the same game here. Maybe you guys need to power down your console or hard reset it for better results as I’m not seeing these input lag issues and the game runs nice and smooth for me with the mildly occasional dip here and there.

@Mr_Zurkon so all that additional work should go undiminished and uncompensated because you feel the game isn't worth its value. Understandable if you feel the game should be cheaper and honestly at $30 I would have been comfortable with a buy unless the reviews for the Switch version end up sitting near an 8 I prob won't get it myself until ansale.

However I'm not of the mind to think that if the man hours and work was put in to improve any game experience during a port, that they don't have a right to ask for what they feel it's worth and that a game came out months prior has nothing to do with pricing on a new console. Porting and optimizing takes plenty of work and they are entitled to be compensated appropriately for that work. Upon release it should be the same price as what it was when it released on other consoles. Whether it pans out for them we'll have to wait and see.

I swear I think people have an great misconception of what it takes to port and optimize games, like it just takes a click of a button or something. Porting can be a grueling and extremely frustrating process with 100's of manhours of work and sleepless nights.

@Dr_Corndog It's a months old game on other consoles, sales are expected. Again the game is brand new on Switch and it would have been a nice bonus if there was some type of limited launch sale however a sale shouldn't just be expected. Ports don't make themselves and it's not a 5 mins process.

Absolutely loved this game didn't even wait for a review. Knew after the Nndies @home preview it was something special. Had a ton of fun playing this with a friend on hard but to beat the campaign I had to do it solo.

Also some challenges are time locked and continue to be accessible over a few days. Great game overall and definitely agree with the score. Brutal at times but in a good way.

Definitely had fun on my Wii U with the game but can't say I'll double dip on this one. If only they hurried up with NOL service and could tie previous purchases to my account and offer a discount for ports that were already owned on Wii U I'd be happier. They should really implement something like that.

It's a way to incentivize owners of the Wii U to part with their cash and feel a bit better about it and would still be profitable in sales from the people that never owned a Wii U or didn't purchase the game.

@Agent721 @AcridSkull @Nintendoforlife It seems this game runs poorly on all machines including PC, which blows my mind. Clearly it's more of an optimization issue, give it up to poor coding of the original engine. I'm actually going to pass the game up on all consoles. If 6 months down the line they still haven't patched it up on the big consoles I don't see them being able to get it running any better on Switch anytime soon. Hopefully I'm wrong about that though. I'd love to see the performance and graphics in handheld mode improve.
