With its Saturday morning cartoon visuals, episodic setup and bags of nostalgia for '80s pop culture, Saturday Morning RPG will be making its way onto Nintendo Switch this spring in both digital and physical forms. Publisher Limited Run Games has teamed up with developer Mighty Rabbit Studios to support the boxed edition which, like all of its published titles, will have (you guessed it) a limited run before it sells out for good.
If you've never played SMRPG, it's an active turn-based RPG that follows the antics of Martin 'Marty' Michael Hall, a high school student who goes on fantastical adventure packed to the brim with references and call backs to classic cartoons and toys from that special decade. That nostalgia even extends to the soundtrack, composed by Vince DiCola (Transformers: The Animated Movie, Rocky IV) and his composing partner, Kenny Meriedeth (contributor for DuckTales, Power Rangers, X-Men).
The game actually first came out on iOS in 2012, but work on a potential port began in November last year when developer Josh Fairhurst tweeted a picture of it running on Switch.
Saturday Morning RPG arrives on Switch in spring 2018. Will you be giving this indie port the time of day when it touches down in Nintendo's hardware of choice? Let us know below...

Limited run needs to get that Hollow knight physical release train so I can double dip
Yes, please. Bought in on my PS, and didn't get to boot it up more than once. I'll def get way more playtime on my Switch.
Dusty Switch in the screenshot. Sounds good in theory, but given its physical release I assume it'll have an insane markup for an indie game. Pass until good reviews and a sale.
Awesome this is a really fun game, defo a first day purchase
I am probably the target market. Price and reviews will confirm.
Looks right up my RPG alley, yes please
@Robotron2084 omg, you're that guy! Everyone come quick! It's the guy that bought the Ouya! crowd ooohs and aaahs I was looking for a unicorn, but this, this is even more special. takes a selfie thanks, I'll treasure this moment for the rest of my life! runs home to put on his mantle along with pictures of other obscure consoles, then sheds a single tear.
Sounds interesting enough!
Wasnt this slated to be released on 3ds too?
Enjoyed this quite a bit on my Vita, but not enough to double dip with my current backlog of 168 games. Solid game though.
@Robotron2084 sorry, couldn't resist. Nobody I know personally has one, but it is a wide world out there. Is it a good machine/worth investing in?
I did play Super Mario RPG!
@Alikan Limited Run Games only prints so many copies so when they are gone they are gone. Usually sell out in an hour.
Never heard of this before, but it sounds super lovely. I hope there's references to the Dungeons and Dragons 80's cartoons, because that should be the first thing the pops into anyone's mind when they hear "Saturday morning" and "RPG" in the same sentence.
I tried this on Vita and really did not enjoy it. Not sure why
If it’s cheap enough yes- I’ve seen this thing on sale for as low as .99 - 2.99 on Steam.
I’ll have my eyeballs on the physical release — That I’d be willing to pay more for of course!
Watched a trailer. Looks interesting at least. Ah 80s Saturday morning cartoons, how I miss you.
Played this a few years back, though I think I only played one or two episodes as that was all they had released.
It was fun and different from what I played of it. Not sure if I'd play it again though.
do limited run games actually sell any games or just use headlines then put them on ebay themselves to screw everyone over
I’m a fan of the 80’s so this has my attention at least
Definitely interested in this; I'm a child of the 80's.
So, is this by the company that puts games up for sale, they get snaffled up by scalpers and you have to buy through ebay at twice the price? Joy.
Click bait. I know about the LRG release but I thought it was out on the eshop with that title above
Pretty clear what demographic this is targeting. I am right on the edge of that group. Old enough to understand most of the jokes and references but just a bit too young to really care as much. My cousins who are about 5 years older than me would probably have a lot more fun with a game like this.
I find it hilarious that virtually every game on my Steam wishlist is now getting Switch versions.
Got a game you want on Switch? Just tell me, i'll add it to my Wishlist, then a few months later ... BAM! PORT!
Loved this game on PS4, wish I would have picked up the physical edition when I had the chance for that. Might have to go for the Switch physical edition now...
Nah, I was a kid of the 90's, and even if I wasn't, not many 80's cartoons hold up very well. There are reasons it's considered the culmination of the Dark Age of Animation.
The only difference Switch has is it's portable and the graphics look smoother. I think they added the song in the Switch version too. I have it on PS4 and it is good. It's made up of stuff a lot of us grew up with in 80's like games, toys, movies and food. Many of 80's shows set the standard for all the new remakes. I loved the original Transformers and like the new films but it sort of destroyed the original by changing a lot of the story and adding current gen stuff. The 80's created cartoons and movies and toys that are just being recreated for new generations. I still like the original G.I Joe and Ninja Turtles.
