Nintendo has released a new patch for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, updating the humongous RPG to version 1.2.0.
This update fixes issues related to a specific Skill RAM and Agate’s Blade Quest “Precious Yearnings,” and will also give the option to skip voiced segments in the game's menus. Perhaps the most interesting change, though, is that Version 1.2.0 has adjusted two of the game's quests - “The Riddle on the Wall” and “Birds of a Feather” (a Blade quest) - allowing players to complete them regardless of their story progression.
With new items and quests also being thrown in for those who have purchased the game's expansion pass, this update is a particularly welcome one. You can see the full patch notes below.
Version 1.2.0
- Fixed an issue in which parts set to a specific Skill RAM failed to provide their intended effects.
- Adjusted the Gormott regular quest “The Riddle on the Wall” to make it completable regardless of player progression in the main story.
- Adjusted Finch’s Blade Quest “Birds of a Feather” to make it completable regardless of player progression in the main story.
- Fixed an issue in Agate’s Blade Quest “Precious Yearnings” preventing quest progression.
- Added functionality to allow players to receive the first round of quests and the second round of items associated with the Expansion Pass.
- Voiced segments in menus can now be skipped with the A or B button.

This is all well and good but have they actually released a patch that improves the games overall performance?
Love it glad I got the expansion pass. I’m always for performance improvements in updates but I’d rather have an improvement in the manage blades and Merc group UI. And some of the menu in general.
@MaSSiVeRiCaN
Well the ability to skip dialogue makes deleting those common blades faster, right? So blade management has improved
I have no problems with the game's performance.
It could be better, yes. But overall the game is pretty sweet as is.
I'm just delighted I am going to be able to spend more time with this game.
Welcomed changes all around. I am 205 hours into the game at this point and still questing away. Collected all the rare blades and hunting down and doing every quest I can find. Probably way overleveled for the main story, but I am fine with that. This game gets way to much hate. I love it! Love the story, love the music, love the combat. I just wish getting the rare blades was not based on RNG and exactly 1 rare blade I dislike the design of.
@Linoshi What issues are you having with performance? 205 hours in and I have not had any issues.
Perfect excuse to come back to Alrest. I have completed the game's main plot on New Years eve and I have been looking up excuses to get back to it. This update will surely do it.
Still waiting for a full skip of the Blade acquisition "thought cloud" stuff. So much wasted time
Well this is exciting! Since i am early in the game. only 20 hrs in
Yay! Nice fixes. I freaking love this game. I can't seem to put it down.
Boys and girls, having beaten the game (but not 100%) I've taken myself off this and I'm playing Zelda now. I will get the expansion pass soon now that new quests are included. But out of interest are these new quests pretty similar to the format of the existing ones? Any new voiced cut scenes or extra depth?
@scubydo Believe or not you didnt really start the game yet.
LOL!
@Jayvir I'm with you on this one.
I always dread when I have over 100 core crystals and I know I will have hours of crystal opening hoping to get a rare blade of the right type because of the limited amount of overdrive protocols in the game.
So close to the end of the story, and have enjoyed the game so much but DEAR GOD PLEASE LET ME FINISH THIS GAME SOON!!!!! I AM OFFICIALLY FED UP OF IT AND WANT TO PLAY SOMETHING DIFFERENT AND SHORTER!!!!
I’ve got Skyrim in my to do pile.
Doesn't matter, I'm currently so fed up of this game. Yesterday it randomly crashed just before a boss battle and turns out the last time I saved was more than 6 hours before. Was it so nibelsnarfing difficult to implement an auto save function like every other modern game?
Bugs galore, terrible graphics, poor framerate, shoddy map. So how come this is one of my favorite games? I love it despite its flaws.
I am a veteran of (but not completed) 1, X and now 2 and I have to say 2 is by far the best structured of the Xenoblade games so far... there is actually a coherent gameplay arc before it challenges you with the completely otherworldly gameplay concepts.
I'm accidentally 25 hours in and enjoying it immensely, either I've got better at these games, I understand the rules or its just a little bit easier than the last two?
It has crashed on me once properly, straight to the the Switch home screen and I lost a couple of hours which was not fun, save often!
The only other Switch game to crash on me was Mantis Burn Racing and that one asked me if I'd like to report the issue, this was just a total bomb out.
Can highly recommend Xenoblade Chronicles 2 to anyone really.
@Leighk ..."Bugs galore, terrible graphics, poor framerate"
..pardon me ?!??
I really didn't initially love Xenoblade 2, but over 200 hours later I'm still trying to complete every last part of it. I will admit that the game is far from perfect, but I enjoyed the characters and the combat. It's definitely packed with content.
I haven't run into any issues yet - and thankfully completed the side quests and blade quests without having to wait for the patches.
I will say that I was hoping for a better blade management screen and better odds for receiving rare blades from this patch. I have two rare blades left and just can't seem to pull them.
@Yorumi While the plot has not interested me all that much, the combat is quite interesting. It took a while to get interesting, however, as I slowly figured it out and the game really eases you in.
20 hours in (really like 16 as i fell asleep while playing late at night a few times) and I'm enjoying it greatly.
I'm in the camp of 'best game ever' with this one The fact that they've allowed us to skip dialogue in the menu system is a WELCOME update and quite thoughtful on their part.
Frame rate is fine. I've only encountered one moment where I was taken aback by the game becoming choppy. Xenoblade Chronicles 1 had a few of those moments too. It's fine. The core game is unlike anything I've seen.
You know how singers used to not auto tune their voices and how that gave their singing personality? That's kinda how I see this game's flaws.
I will be playing this for a while. I’ve been fortunate to have any crashes while I’m playing.. definitely recommend
Just finished the main story last week and... wow. What a game. I can't wait to for the DLC!
@JibberX How is it compared to X? I loved the world of X, gameplay wise it was a bit monotonous at times, but the world was so beautifully crafted and detailed. Everything I saw from 2 looks a bit more bland, especially in this comparison video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LfrbWVMpj0 . What's your opinion on that?
@Heavyarms55 I heard there was a glitch that locks the frame rate at much lower rate than the game is actually capable of outputting which I think I've been suffering from, it appears to be an intermittent issue as it only happens sometimes when I boot the game up and not others.
50 hours in. At first felt the sting of disappointment but I muscled through it and now I'm grinding away. I got the expansion pass and the updates seem to roll out right when I need some new stuff to keep me coming back.
@BigKing so X was based on a very conventional planet type place with interesting and distinct areas, but for me it never reached the aesthetic uniqueness of the first game.
Chronicles 1 led you through what I thought were completely distinct and fascinating environments that you may only see once, 2 does the same and promotes re-exploring areas you've been to before.
The depth of the imagination that goes into the "world" building in 1 and 2 is simply staggering, and they keep mixing things up as they go.
I'd say X was the least interesting of the 3 games for me. But they are all amazing.
I'm 15 hours in and have been having a great time. I'm just a little annoyed because I am now at a point where I have to grind for EXP because of a certain boss battle...
I'm basically just getting started and about to go off on the quest from the chancellor. It's really heavy handed so far with the easing in. With so many games to play, it's been tough for me to stay focused since I'm waiting for it to pick up. But... that's why I bought XC2 rather than GameFlying it-- Imma need at least half a year at this rate.
I love this game to death. Seriously there's so much in it, I can't comprehend how they pulled it off.
Loving the game so far, still trying to decide on whether the DLC is worth picking up the items and blades and stuff would be better for someone like me that's on chapter 3 with about 17 hours played than someone that's already beat the game i'd guess. If the season pass was 20 bucks i think there'd be a lot less question, just feels a bit overpriced without knowing how much content will be added with the story and whether i'll even get around to playing the story content when it finally comes out. As far as performance I thought it's been pretty good the game doesnt' look quite as good in handheld mode, but I play about 95% docked so doesn't effect me to much.
No word on the errors that can literally take hours of progress? Dangit....
@Linoshi that's all I'm waiting for. I mean, it looks great on my tv but it does not look so great ib portable mode. Yeah, I could just play it on the tv but i like it enough to WANT to play it anywhere. Great game!
@Yorumi
Combat was uninteresting? It's very similar to part 1 but expanded thanks to blade switching/customization options. Compared to the writing in X, I feel this is a breath of fresh air.
Love this game. Best game on switch so far.
I’m well over 100 hours into this game and haven’t had it crash on me. I’m loving it. Just having a hard time getting my last 2 rare blades from the core crystals. I plan to grind for more core crystals so I can finally have all the rare blades this weekend.
Oh, I guess that is good.
I just lost Herald doing her quest post game - not sure Im willing to spend the time doing what they asking now that I finished the story
Should have left it alone - maybe when the Story DLC comes out Ill get her back.
There was a translation of something on twitter saying we were getting more items for those who have the season pass. Anyone download this and can confirm it?
have they done anything about the font size in this game? the only thing putting me of playing is memories of XCX and it's tiny font size.
There's drama on various message boards about the hidden "fix" in the patch:
"Think you can take me" and "Don't forget me" have been removed for "Take that" and "Don't forget". There's actually a petition now to bring this back.
@Heavyarms55 personally, I have intermittent framerate issues. There was a rather annoying bug with riddle on the wall that prevented completion if you failed the check on the Indol mural and did not complete it before the mural moved to Leftheria. That particular bug is fixed in this patch. Also, sometimes textures would take a long time to load. It's really weird exploring with no textures for the first 5 to 10 seconds. I haven't really explored since the update so I'm not sure if that one's fixed as it was intermittent.
@LUIGITORNADO yes, there's another item pack, but it's much smaller than the first one. It was another set of core crystals and a couple sets of favorite items
I'd prefer if they finally added a proper map and compass to this game.
Right now it is a real p in the a to find any of the locations that NPCs mention to you.
And if there was a proper map, it could also display proper quest markers. This would prevent frustrating stuff like this.
I gave up after that.
Then, a month later, I googled the solution. But it still didn't work, I just can't run on that wall where you're supposed to get to the floodgate, my character always falls off.
So after this annoying bug occured I gave up again. This game is just no fun that way.
They did well in other aspects, but overall XCX was much better in every aspect.
Honestly haven't felt much desire to complete sidequests in this game. I don't know what it is, but I just don't care much about doing them
@SamuFinland no I meant more UI stuff. The ability to sort/filter by field skill, Driver (other than in Merc missions menu) & sort accessories by category instead of just alphabetical, chronological & rarity are just a few things I can think of off the top of my head. Would be a huge Time Saver for the amount of time that you spend in the menus.
I personally don’t know what to make of this game?
For me I think I would have enjoyed it more in my teens before I’d played a lot of these type of games or watched much anime, as the story is very teenage based wrapped up in Fantasy tropes. The map can be so irritating by hiding questmarkers under other markers, the combat is not as engaging as other xenoblades, I’m 55 hours in and I don’t have any abilities where I can topple someone and the launch or break! It just seems like a hot mess. Apart from many cliches the quests are monotonous and the bugs and lag and slow fps are ruining my immersion.....but apart from all this I’m still playing in the hopes that something will change.
Now I’m sure others are like how can you say this! But it’s just one opinion, the game is average so far, nothing great yet.
Maybe it’s the overall lack of explanation of so many things, and other things being overly complicated , but I’m not enjoying it as much as many others seem to be unfortunately.
I hope these changes make a difference?
The game crashed on me after the credits rolled and I know it happened to others too. Did they fix that I hope?
This is really, really a thing after the new update:
https://www.change.org/p/monolith-soft-bring-back-the-think-you-can-take-me-and-don-t-forget-me-quotes-in-xc2
100 hours here, just before the final boss. (After killing the last boss I won't play for a while...)
The DLC, until the summer release, honestly, is garbage. Minor sidequests and "support items for your missions" are a new concept of quick cash (and it is not good).
Let's wait for dlc pack 3 and pack 5.

Just discovered Pneuma
@Linoshi what is the problem with the performance. I’m over 60 hours in and haven’t tripped about anything but it being too easy
@JudgeMethos I prefer to play in portable mode and have no problems with frame rate. What’s the problem? It dips too low?
@CurtBro As previously mentioned there is a glitch locking the frame rate at much lower rate than it should be. At times it's like the whole game is in slow motion.
@gspro15198 Yeah don't worry, the font size is much bigger compared to XCX. You shouldn't have any problems reading it, assuming you aren't half blind
@Linoshi Lol “as previously mentioned”... get a pc if ur obsessed with frame rate. Game looks great
@CurtBro I think you're missing my point, the game is literally locked at 5-10 FPS consistently due to a GLITCH they are yet to fix. it has nothing to do with snobbery...it's literally a glitch. The glitch appears sometimes when I boot up and I have to do a reset to fix it, sometimes I have to literally reset the whole game several times until the glitch disappears. Plus, I've never said the game didn't look good, I literally just want then to fix this issue so I don't have to reset my game multiple times just so I can play it properly.
Jeeeez.
@Linoshi works errr time for curtbro
I am 20 hrs in and only starting chapter 3...I get distracted by all the other stuff to easily...
Love this game.
The combat is excellent, the main storyline was great and I love running around salvaging and trying different blade combinations.
While Xenoblade 2 is not perfect, neither is any game, and I have certainly had a lot of fun in my 100 plus hours of playtime.
Looking forward to playing the new DLC missions this week.
My favourite Switch title. Love it..
I've played less recently but still enjoying the game. I'm just not a big fan of Chapter 7. Mainly because of that one dungeon.
@Linoshi i think this is the biggest task they are facing so it takes a while
I was enjoying this game immensely. Then this patch came. No longer do I hear, “Think you can take me?!?” “Don’t forget me,” has been shortened simply to, “Don’t forget.” Don’t forget what? Soon I no longer will remember and these soldiers will truly be forgotten. Why did this constantly shout this phrase? They knew. They knew they were doomed to be forgotten. This game was a solid 10/10 but it’s now an 8/10 at best. I only hope the petition is heard before these voices are silenced forever. Monolith thought they could take them. And they were right.
Also if Tora can cry “SPINNNNNINGGG CUTTTAHHHH” every 30 seconds through this 100+ hour adventure, surely these poor soldiers could be allowed to beg not to be forgotten in their last couple minutes of life. that removal was completely unnecessary, may as well have patched Reyn Time out of XB1!
@MrGawain if your looking for something shorter Skyrim isn’t a good idea lol
IM 30 hours in and im finding it a real slog, when does it start to pick up? i'm on chapter 4
Every quest should be open at any time. This should already have been the case from the start! I hate it when you can't complete certain tasks after certain progression.
People hate on what they don't play or actually have. Xeno is great !
I just started Chapter 5. I read a lot of people complaining about Chapter 4. I didn't have much issue with it.
Haven't had much time to play lately, but I keep getting sidetracked with side-quests... every time I think I'm ready to move on I do a sweep of the settlements and keep finding new quests that have popped up, and by the time I've finished them, the same thing happens again... there's so much to do!
@BlackenedHalo
Well they've just announced another patch...that isn't addressing it...* sigh*
