Re: Review: Castlevania Anniversary Collection - You'll Want To Get Your Teeth Into This

LunarFlame17

Don’t understand the complaints about Simon’s Quest. I played through that whole game last night, and it’s GREAT, as long as you play it with a guide. Now I know that is a pretty big caveat, but this review makes it sound as if Simon’s Quest is a big ol’ heaping dumpster fire, and it’s not. It’s actually a really fun game stuffed full of extremely obtuse puzzles.

Re: Feature: The Best Nintendo Switch RPGs

I’m kinda surprised YIIK is on this list, considering how many things I’ve heard about people hating that game. I guess somebody at Nintendo Life likes it, which, good for them.

I’m also surprised Final Fantasy IX is the only FF on this list. IX is great, but I’d argue that it’s the weakest of the four FF games on the Switch. I’m playing through XII for the first time, and oh my goodness, that game is every bit as good as people have been telling me for the past 13 years. I’m very surprised it’s not on this list.

Re: Review: Deponia - An Amusing Graphic Adventure Which Is Totally Overpriced On Switch

LunarFlame17

@GrailUK I totally agree with you. And to add to what you said, the reviewer said that there’s nothing special about the Switch version compared the PS4 or Steam version, but I’d argue that’s not true. The Switch version is the only one of those three that can be played on a handheld, which is worth a premium to me.

Granted, I don’t have a stake in this fight, because I have no interest in this game, but it reminds me of the fussing over the price of Resident Evil 4, which is a game I very much want. And I don’t care that RE4 is $30 on the Switch, because it’s worth $30 to me to get a handheld version of that game.

Re: Talking Point: Should Nintendo Be Concerned About Google's Play For Gamers?

LunarFlame17

I have no desire to pass judgment on whatever Google’s doing until I actually know what it is, but I do have some thoughts. I haven’t followed tech very closely for awhile, but Google doesn’t have a great track record of staying committed to hardware. Remember when they bought Motorola? Heck, just the other day I read an article about how Google reassigned dozens of hardware engineers who had been working on their tablet and laptop teams. I wouldn’t be surprised if, whatever Google announces, people have largely forgotten about it a year after it comes out.

Re: Talking Point: Could Nintendo Ditch Physical Media With A 'Switch Lite?'

LunarFlame17

I don’t think it would flop like the PSP Go, since the market is in a very different place than it was 10 years ago, but I think physical game sales make up a higher proportion of Nintendo’s sales than they do Microsoft’s or Sony’s. If that’s true, it would be foolish of them to drop physical media, even if it was only partially. I’d be fine with it personally, as I buy all my Switch games from the eShop and have no physical Switch games, but I think I’m very much in the minority.

Re: Feature: The Best Metroidvania Games On Nintendo Switch

@Krambo42 Yeah I wouldn’t necessarily recommend Iconoclasts, it just surprised me to hear someone say they loved Owlboy but don’t want to play Iconoclasts. I played Iconoclasts first, and as I was playing through Owlboy, I kept thinking, “Man, this really reminds me of Iconoclasts.” I did like Owlboy better, though.

@brunojenso Well, it’s a side-scrolling, 2D exploration game with a large interlocking map and some backtracking and you unlock new areas by acquiring new abilities, so call that what you will. I mean, there’s a lot of overlap between a “Zelda style” game and a “Metroid style” game, but Owlboy felt more Metroid style to me.

Re: Anniversary: Nintendo Switch Launched Two Years Ago Today

LunarFlame17

The Switch was the first console I ever preordered and got on launch day. I wasn’t sure at first how badly I wanted one, but my wife had a hunch and convinced me to preorder it, and boy was she right! In the past two years I sold my Xbox 360 and my Xbox One, and I play games almost exclusively on my Switch now. (I occasionally fire up older Nintendo consoles.) The Switch might be my favorite console of all time. Bring on the next two years!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 23rd)

LunarFlame17

@mcdreamer I need to go back to Xenoblade X again some day. I got almost to the end a couple years ago, then Skyrim came out on the Switch, and then Xenoblade 2 a few weeks after that, and I just never went back. I keep hoping it gets announced for the Switch, but at this point I need to just go back and try it again.
