@Heavyarms55 Yeah the boosters are great. I’ve gotten bogged down about midway through the third disc the last few times I’ve tried to play it, and being able to speed up the game and turn on god mode really helped me power through this time.
@Heavyarms55 Uh, I’m not sure. Around 30 hours maybe? It was a lot shorter than I remembered . I didn’t do any extra stuff, and I made liberal use of the boosters, especially towards the end, so that probably helped me get through it quicker.
I just finished Final Fantasy IX last night, and I’m not sure what I want to play next. I might jump back into Splatoon 2. Haven’t played that in a while. Maybe I’ll play some more Smash Bros. Diablo III has been calling to me as well. And I’ll probably throw in some quick rounds of Tetris 99 while I’m at it.
It really makes sense for both sides here. Microsoft has been clear that they want Xbox to be a service, not just a piece of hardware. And it would be pretty good marketing for Nintendo if they were able to advertise and say, “Hey! You can play Xbox games on the Switch now!”
I have a few amiibo that sit on my shelf and collect dust, but I don’t really care about them that much. My kids have a ton, but they’re all in a bag in a my son’s closet, and we haven’t bought any new ones for years. I don’t see any reason for Nintendo to do anything more with amiibo than they already do. I hate the thought of content being locked behind a certain physical object that may or may not be hard to actually purchase. Just having neat figurines that provide minor bonuses is enough, I think. There’s no reason to do more than that.
I’m no businessman, but it seems to me that 20 million was just too ambitious a target, and there was nothing they could have done to hit it. It probably would have helped if they’d had more “must have” titles during the first half of the year. I was happy with their lineup, but I know a lot of people weren’t, and even I admit that it was weaker than it could have been.
@diwdiws I meant that it looks like a really fun game, not that the graphics look good. I mean, the graphics do look good, but that’s not why I want to play it.
@MoonKnight7 That probably does account for a lot of it, yeah. There has to be some people out there, though, who bought a Switch, looked at MK8D, and were like, “nah”. Those are the people I’m interested in. How can you not like MK8? I don’t even like racing games, and I love MK8!
@tech7 Okay, but Nintendo sold 8 million copies of MK8 on Wii U, and there are 17 million Switches out there without an attached copy of MK8. Even if you assume that no one double dipped, that still leaves 9 million Switches out there owned by people who also didn’t own MK8 on Wii U. That seems like a lot to me. It’s a very good game.
Man, I was already excited for these games, and learning that Virtuos is handling the ports makes me even more excited. I’ve played L.A. Noire, Dark Souls, and Starlink, and they’re all spectacular on the Switch.
I’m almost at the end of World of Final Fantasy Maxima, so I’m hoping to finish that this weekend. Once that’s done, I want to start a seasonal character in Diablo III, and start playing through Crystalis in the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection.
@Yas Yeah, that is the flip side, but I’m talking about games I’ve sold and then regretted selling years later, when they’re not easy to find. Like, I used to have a copy of Skies of Arcadia Legends for GameCube, and I’d love to buy that again, but it costs $70 or more now. Plus, I always take immaculate care of my physical games, and when I have rebought games I regretted selling, they’re always in much worse shape than the copies I sold. Yes, I do have some digital games that I would sell if I had a physical copy (like I Am Setsuna), but all in all, I’d rather have games than not have them.
@KingMike I get the reselling thing, although to me that’s a bonus of digital games, because I’ve regretted selling a ton of games over the years. The rest I can’t really sympathize with though. Why care if the game is using space on your console? The space is there, might as well use it! And it’s not true any more that digital games are tied to your console. Nintendo FINALLY fixed that, so that’s not an issue.
And yeah, GameStop sucks. I stopped buying new games there years ago. Not that I buy physical games anymore anyway.
I don’t understand why people get upset about collections of two games where one is physical and the other is digital. The game is exactly the same either way. Why does it matter?
I started World of Final Fantasy Maxima recently since all the Final Fantasy announcements recently have got me in a Final Fantasy mood, so I’ll be mostly focusing on that.
@liveswired I feel like you’re just proving my point. TVii didn’t work because it was outside of Nintendo’s area of expertise. And yes, the Wii U had all those video apps, but so what? The Wii U was a flop. The success of the Switch is proof that there is a market for a device that does nothing but play video games. Would Netflix and so on make the Switch worse? Probably not, but it also wouldn’t really make the Switch better. I highly doubt many people are making a purchasing decision regarding the Switch based on whether or not it has video streaming apps.
I feel like Nintendo has kinda tried to go down that route in the past and failed. After all, the Wii U was marketed as “the one box”, the only thing you would need to have hooked up to your television. Remember TVii? I think Nintendo is better off sticking to what it’s good at. Focus on games, and let Amazon do video streaming.
I don’t quite understand the point of this sentiment. Nintendo will discontinue the 3DS when it makes business sense to do so. In the mean time, it’s not hurting anybody for the 3DS to continue on. The Switch isn’t exactly lacking for new games.
@GameOtaku Okay, so I didn't know TMNT was on the Wii VC, so you have a point there. I still think it's highly unlikely that games like that will come to Switch Online, because people aren't buying individual games on that service. So, a game like TMNT would have to bring in enough new subscribers to make up for the cost of getting the TMNT license, and I don't see many people signing up for that service because games like TMNT or Batman for NES are available on it.
I don’t understand why people are angry about this. We’re getting two great games, and if you really want to play Joy Mecha Fight, it’s not hard to get the Japanese Famicom app. I understand being disappointed by only two games, but angry? Some of you need to figure out what’s really important in life. (Hint: it ain’t video games.)
If this had been an option from the beginning, I might have taken it, because I love the convenience of digital, but I do miss having a shelf of game cases. This is the best of both worlds, as far as I’m concerned.
I can’t imagine they’ll port Super Mario Maker at this point. It seems much more likely that we’ll get Super Mario Maker 2. Also, this list is suffering from a severe lack of Xenoblade Chronicles X.
This is a good list. I’ve owned every console on the list except for the Game Boy Color, and I mostly agree with it. I think the Nintendo 64 is probably too high, but otherwise I wholeheartedly agree. Especially the Switch at #1. Even only two years in, if I had to cut back to only one console, it would be the Switch, hands down.
I am buying this solely for Crystalis. I’m sure I’ll check out all the rest of the games, but Crystalis is my JAM. I loved that game so much as a kid, and it hasn’t been available in any (official) form for a long time.
@NotSoCryptic Oh that’s totally fair. It’s just that, in my case, I love playing games on the Switch so much that I want everything on it. Doom is a great example. I played it on Xbox One, but I prefer the Switch version, and it’s because of the portability.
Wolfenstein II is another game that I played on the Xbox One first, and I actually didn’t like it very much, but for some reason, I bought it again on Switch, and loved it when I played it a second time on Switch. That was the exact moment when I decided to sell my Xbox One.
Anyway, I just love the Switch and want everything to be on it. I’m probably not typical, but the more old games get ported to the Switch, the happier I’ll be.
@Quarth Ah, thanks. I don’t pay much attention to the comments usually, so I don’t know who the known trolls are.
As for the number of quality games on the Switch, it’s ridiculous. I have over 100 games on my Switch, plus another couple of dozen or so on my wishlist that I can’t afford to buy yet. I actually sold my Xbox One because I was spending most of my time playing the Switch and didn’t even enjoy playing games on the Xbox anymore. Anyone who thinks there aren’t enough good games on the Switch is either dumb or trolling.
I'm not much of a Pokemon guy myself, but I really wish I could buy one of these for my kids. Unfortunately, we already two Switches in the house, and I can't justify spending $400 on a third one.
I’m excited about this. I went through a phase where I only played video games on an iPad, and Cthulhu Saves the World is one of the few games I remember fondly from that period. Excited to play another Zeboyd game, this time with real buttons!
@H_Hunter It has not been announced, but it’s gotta be inevitable. Persona is hot right now, and so is Fire Emblem, and TMS is a game that combines both and didn’t sell well. Atlus has got to realize that it will sell much better on Switch.

@Jokerwolf Exactly! Plus Switch games will be able to use an online infrastructure that actually works!

Re: Talking Point: Is A Nintendo Direct Really On The Way?
I really hope there’s a Direct this week because I just can’t even anymore.

Still working my way through Shining Resonance Refrain. I’m getting close to the end, so hopefully I’ll have it finished by next weekend.

I’m playing Shining Resonance Refrain. Slowly working my way through the ol’ backlog.
Re: Talking Point: What Do You Want From A Switch Mini?
I don’t really care. If it’s cheap enough, I might buy one for my kids, but otherwise, I’m perfectly happy with my current Switch.
Re: Nintendo's Stance On Directs Hasn't Changed Despite Gap Between Presentations
None of the announcements they’ve made on Twitter have been overly big. That suggests to me that the Direct, when it comes, will be a doozy.

It’s not really a “surprise” launch. It’s been listed in the Coming Soon section of the eShop for a couple of weeks.
