I’ve got Trails of Cold Steel III queued up to play next on my Switch, but I’ve never played the first two games, so I dusted off my Vita to play those first. It’s definitely weird playing Vita after the past few years of playing on Switch. It’s so tiny!
@SigourneyBeaver I still think it would have been much more successful if they had just packed it with a regular controller and marketed as an HD Wii. They were just trying to do too much with it. You could even do video calls with it, for crying out loud! Did anyone ever use that feature?
I still boot mine up occasionally (just played Metroid Fusion on it a few weeks ago, actually), but for the most part I vastly prefer the Switch. The Wii U always felt like a solution in search of a problem...
@UmbreonsPapa Oh man, I feel this. I keep looking at all the shiny ray tracing and 60 frames per second and 4k resolution and thinking, “maybe....” And then I look at my massive Switch backlog and I think “nah”.
Hmmm. I was planning to play the Vita versions of these games that I already have, but now I’m wondering if I should wait. I wouldn’t mind not needing to bother using my Vita ever again, to be honest. It was a fine little handheld, but I like the Switch so much better.
It's absolutely wild the things people come up with to try. I never would have even thought to do something like this, even if I had the skills to do it! Which I don't!
I also was surprised at how fast the Virtual Boy died. I was 14 at the time, and knew nothing about the industry that I didn’t learn from Nintendo Power, so I was all-in on the Virtual Boy. My brother and I got one for Christmas that year and loved it. We had Red Alarm and Wario Land and I played the crap out of those games, and then I didn’t play anything else, because nothing else came out. It sat and collected dust for a year, and then I sold it to one of my buddies for a dollar. Shame this game never came out. It sounds like it would have been good!
Wow, I was actually looking forward to this one. Yeah, it looks like a Hollow Knight clone, but I can’t think of many better games to clone. Well, guess I’ll go take this off my wish list then.
@IronMan30 Gotcha. I, on the other hand, was definitely an adult when this game came out on Gamecube. Heck, I got married a year before it came out in the US!
I remember passing on this game when it came to Gamecube cause it sounded mediocre. I was surprised when people were so excited about this remaster and thought maybe I had missed something after all, but this review sure confirms my original impressions of the game. Also, it’s wild to me that I’m old enough that there are adults who have childhood nostalgia for games that came out when I was an adult.
@TheFrenchiestFry Yeah, I’ve thought about that. I’m holding out to see how much the PS5 costs, and how well the backwards compatibility works. Plus, I’ve owned every Playstation except the 4, and it would bother me to skip over it. Not very rational, I know, but I never claimed to be a rational person.
I said this on a different article, but I think it’s worth repeating. I’ve been thinking about buying a Playstation 4 because things have been so slow on the Switch, but that indie presentation was so good it’s making me rethink that plan.
Wow, a lotta whiners in these comments. I thought it was great! Probably the best indie presentation Nintendo’s ever done. I’ve been thinking about getting a Playstation 4 (not dissatisfied with Nintendo, just figured this would be a good time to get one), but now I’m thinking I’ll be too busy playing Spiritfarer and Raji to bother.
I own a Wii U and a whole bunch of games for it, but I never got around to playing most of them. Now I’d rather play them on Switch, because the Switch is better than the Wii U in every way. $60 seems like a fair price to pay for these games for me, but if it doesn’t seem like it to you, don’t buy them! Seems like a simple solution to me.
I cannot fathom not liking Yoshi’s Island. I mean, everyone has their own tastes, and that’s great, but it’s such a perfect game! I could understand not liking it if you don’t like 2d sidescrollers or 16-bit style games or whatever. But to like those kinds of games and not like Yoshi’s Island? Blows my mind!
Thinking outside the box is fine, but the comparison between this and the Switch breaks down when you realize that it’s very clear what the Switch is, and it’s extremely unclear what the Atari VCS is.
I was thinking about Pillars of Eternity II the other day. Weird how we haven’t really heard anything about the Switch version. Well, I still haven’t played the first game yet, so I suppose I’m in no hurry.
When I first saw this game, I thought, "who is this for?" It seems designed to cash in on Pong nostalgia, but who has Pong nostalgia? I'm almost 40 years old, and Pong is before MY time! Who are the 50-somethings out there looking to indulge their childhood love of Pong with an...RPG?
I’ll happily pay any price to get the whole trilogy on Switch, no matter when it comes out. Put it out a year later and charge 60 bucks for each individual game and I’ll still buy it with a smile on my face. Maybe I’m a sucker, but I REALLY want portable Mass Effect.
Surprised there’s no mention of the voice acting. I found the English voices pretty intolerable in the demo, but I switched to Japanese and I was fine.
I wouldn’t call it a monstrosity or whatever, but I did find the demo exceedingly boring, and there’s so many other good games to play, so I have to give this one a pass. I love the art style, though!
It’s me, the person who has never played Sonic the Hedgehog 2 before. I’m not buying this version though, cause I already have the Genesis classics collection, so I’ll just play it there if I ever get the itch.
I'm still gonna buy the game, but this is astonishingly stupid. I have two Switches, and I do go between them, and the fact that I can’t with this game is just...why? What purpose does it serve? To keep people from cheating? What? It’s Animal Crossing! Who cares!? I try to give Nintendo the benefit of a doubt with this stuff, but come on! Why do they insist on shooting themselves in the foot like this all the time?
I’m usually willing to give Nintendo the benefit of a doubt when it comes to their kooky behavior, but this is extremely stupid. What possible benefit could there be to this?
I guess I’m surprised that people DON’T know that Dolphin was the code name for the GameCube, but I suppose new people are being born all the time, huh?
Here’s a funny story. I bought Wolfenstein II for Xbox One on Black Friday in 2017 for $20. I didn’t get around to playing it until the following May, shortly before it came out on Switch. When I did play it, I hated it. I finished it, but it was through sheer stubbornness. I didn’t enjoy the game at all. And then, because I’m stupid, I went ahead and bought the Switch version. The funny thing is, I loved it on Switch! And I loved it for all the reasons mentioned in this article. It turns out, I just prefer playing video games on Switch, even if they don’t look as good, because it’s so much more convenient. In fact, I ended up selling my Xbox One, and now the Switch is my only current gen console.
Ah, I was hoping this would be good. I liked Graceful Explosion Machine, and I love the concept of a brawler where you play as a woman trying to rescue her cat. Hilarious!
I’ll never understand why some people get mad at the thought of someone wanting Persona 5 on Switch. Yeah, we know it’s probably never going to happen, but just let us dream, man! What does it hurt you?

Mass Effect Trilogy!
