Funny how people always comment how hard it was to handle the controls in SM64DS. Maybe I just mastered them quickly back in 2005. I really liked the extra content and wish every rerelease had such features (new stages, characters etc.)
@AlexSora89
I just enjoy the track design and gameplay mechanics in CTR with higher skill ceiling. Me and my cousin are one of the few people who found MK8 track design too easy and the gameplay mechanics boring. CTR NF is in my top 10 games overall but it's the absolute lowest there due the loading times. 30 fps doesn't really bother me in this case. It would hurt my performance in say, F-Zero GX and even though CTR has the blue flame boost mechanic, I've been able to do it fine.
@johnvboy
You seem to have this strange obsession with game having great sales meaning everyone thinks it's a great game that cannot be critised in any way. By that logic, Wii Play is one of the greatest games of all time.
I can agree with you about Sonic Racing Transformed though.
@AlexSora89 CTR easily triumphs over Mario Kart 8 Deluxe too. I never understood the praise towards MK8DX, it has become the definition of an overhyped videogame for me.
@TophatDragoneye Not my thing insulting people over their opinions. Since my reply comes so late I'll return to this topic the next time there are news about Sword & Shield.
I bought the game used and played trough it. Am I now allowed to share my problems about the game... or do I count as "a whiner" according to some people here?
I'm glad Nintendolife still keeps reporting about competitive Smash Bros. It's also very nice to see actual thought put behind some comments. Not all though, usually they're very surface level like:
This person should get a "real job"
"Games shouldn't be played competetively because I don't like that"
"Why are they still playing a 20 year old game???"
Yes, it's good to have valid criticism but I see that so rarely in Nintendolife when it comes to competetive Smash Bros. And to anyone commenting how they can't understand why they're talking about this one person (=important person to a large competetive scene, and it's getting even bigger because of the latest developments in Melee netplay)... yeah, keep on giving add revenue to NL by clicking these articles, more Melee related content for me to read.
@sixrings Yeah, I don't mind that 2020 looks empty for Nintendo, it just could hurt Switch sales momentum badly after most people have bought Animal Crossing.
Sunshine had the best Mario to control in a 3D game. I just love the moveset. A lot of people complain about the lack of long jump while I always complained about the lack of slide move in Galaxy games. It got replaced with... the ability to shoot stars? Bleh!
@Reprise What exactly about Crash 1-3 doesn't stand the test of time? Controls? Level design? Super Mario 64 is a great game but it's not a "timeless classic" in every area. For example we've seen better cameras in newer 3D games.
This is just sad to hear. There's just so much potential for Mario RPG and limiting the creative process is just awful. Yes, having limits forces you to be more creative but there's a limit for that too.
@rdm22 There are differences between the series though:
In Paper Mario the HP and attack numbers are really low so you can calculate exactly how much damage you need to do in order to take down your opponents.
Mario & Luigi on the other hand is about performing even wackier attacks with damage and HP in HUNDREDS.
For me, that was one of the bigger reasons that made both series combat more unique from each other.
@jtmnm On that note, I'm kinda jealous of those players who like Sticker Star and Color Splash. I gave those games a chance but I just can't understand why someone would like the new combat, recycled level themes with little variotions or really anything else about the new games. Well, there's at least something I like: Sticker Star has a really good snow level theme and Color Splash is excellent visually. But that's about it.
@jtmnm
I understand the point about Super Paper Mario being the turning point.
But...
Even though Super Paper Mario has different gameplay that isn't as good as in those that came before, I still found it enjoyable. The story though... for me, it's easily the best story in a Mario game s.o. far.
I found both Sticker Star and Color Splash lacking in both the gameplay and story department so for me (and for many others I suppose) these two were the turning point for worse.
Can't say anything about Origami King yet. Maybe I end up borrowing it one day if any of my friends end up buying it.
@Maulbert
I give that game credit especially for the fact that bothered to actually write a great Mario story.
S: Paper Mario Thousand Year Door (The first one I played so you can call my opinion biased or whatever... but for me, this had the best new original themes for levels, great original characters and really solid battle mechanics.)
A: Paper Mario (I played TTYD first so technically every PM has been a disappointment in some way since. Still a great game.)
B+: Mario & Luigi Paper Jam (not technically a Paper Mario game but it has the best battle mechanics in a Mario rpg to date)
B: Super Paper Mario (special mention for having easily the greatest story in a Mario game).
C: -
D: -
E: Paper Mario Sticker Star & Color Splash (Special mention... After these, I swore to not complete any more games in X series just for the sake of having completed every other game so far in X series. Yeah, I don't like these. The Wii U hae nice visuals though).
@Dethmunk Innovation alone doesn't make the final product great by default. People have the right to critisize this game. Sure, it's early for that since most of us haven't played this yet. What I'm seeing is that people want to go back to traditional mechanics (that could be made even better) now that Mario & Luigi series is essentially dead. In a few weeks, there will be a lot more comments of this game by users that have actually completed this game.
If this game is good or even then... that's great. I just lost faith for Paper Mario after Sticker Star and Color Splash.
I'm sad that stuff like this happens but glad that it got exposed so that we can make a safer competitive enviroment in the future. As a part of a small country's Smash Bros scene I really want to make a better future for our niche hobby.
@RupeeClock I have. It's the worst Shantae and I'm glad they've improved with sequels. Sure they can make the first game better but personally I'd take a new game over remake anyday. ... Unless it's a remake of F-Zero GX with online play.

Four Sword Adventures is not a spin-off, it has The Legend of Zelda in the title.
Re: Smash Comp The Big House Cancelled After Cease And Desist From Nintendo
To anyone saying, "just play Ultimate"... Melee is a completely different game. Both Melee and Ultimate are very popular to this day.

Re: Poll: Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity Is Out Today, Are You Getting It?
Option: No, I'll co-op the game with my friend and his copy of the game.
Re: Poll: Pokémon Sword And Shield Launched A Year Ago, Has Your Opinion On Them Changed?
Bought a used copy. I miss Gen 5.
Re: Review: Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity - Not The Zelda Game You Want, But Perhaps The One You Need
"Co-op performance is laughable at times"
Uh-oh, co-op is the only reason I'm gonna play this with my friend and his copy of the game.
Re: Reminder: Pokémon Sword And Shield's Physical DLC Bundles Drop Next Week
If you REALLY want the full Sword or Shield experience, just buy a used copy and DLC for it. Much cheaper.
Or just wait that this bundle gets cheaper... yeah, right.
Re: Two Members Of "Notorious" Video Game Piracy Group Team Xecuter Arrested
@shonenjump86
I prefer Rakham Red from the Tintin comics.
Re: Two Members Of "Notorious" Video Game Piracy Group Team Xecuter Arrested
Nice. Now that you've done this... please, Nintendo, rerelease old games like Chibi Robo for Switch.
Re: Bomberman, Travis Touchdown, Creeper And More Join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate As Mii Fighter Costumes
Definetely buying Bomberman and pig from Minecraft.
Re: Poll: It's Been One Year Since Mario Kart Tour Was Released, Are You Still Playing It?
Sure, I play it sometimes between online races in CTR.
Re: Feature: The Story Of Virtual Tank, A Lost Virtual Boy Successor To Atari's Battlezone
Truly, one of the greatest videogame systems ever made.

Oh, so that's why this was free.

Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About 'Limited-Time' Games From Nintendo?
Making a digital download limited is kinda ridiculous.
Re: Review: Bounty Battle - A Reprehensible Indie-Infused Take On Super Smash Bros.
@Supersven1234
Interesting, Shovel Knight is in a lot of indie fighters: Rivals of Aether, Brawlhalla, Blade Strangers.
Re: Review: Bounty Battle - A Reprehensible Indie-Infused Take On Super Smash Bros.
But does it have Shovel Knight?
Re: Nintendo Reveals Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, A New Zelda Set 100 Years Before Breath Of The Wild
I like these shadow drop announcements after work. Not buying another musou game but I'll co-op this with my friend and his copy of the game.

@stuntz0rZ
I didn't get the Halloween one, missed the top 5% by a narrow margin. I had to stop playing because I had work next morning.

Re: Feature: So, What Happened To Super Mario Galaxy 2?
They'll sell it in the next collection which will also have 3D Land and 3D World.
Re: Nintendo Announces Super Mario Remasters And Much More In Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct
Why is the collection a limited release? Nintendo games sell for years at full price, what are they doing?

Great... but why limited release?

Re: The Remaster Of Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Won't Support Local Multiplayer
Played the original with 4 GBA's with my cousins. A lot of fun in local,though I always much preferred Zelda Four Sword Adventures.
Does is this require NSO subscription? Not having local kinda defeats the purpose of this rerelease.
