Re: Feature: Nintendo's Most Iconic E3 Moments

Low_ink

My favorite has gotta be Reggie's body being ready. One joke can go a long way. But as for E3 being so soon, well my body isn't ready. And yet E3 will still come, regardless of when I'm ready. I just hope BoTW2 gets news, hopefully even a release date. All will be known in due time, in due time...

Re: Reminder: Minecraft's Caves & Cliffs Part One Update Has Been Released

Low_ink

@Arkay I know, I know. I just find stuff like this frustrating when so many games add content so much faster! Yes the updates are free, but it doesn't mean Minecraft isn't constantly selling thousands of copies each day. Ah, but I feel like I still sound ungrateful, huh. I guess I've reached the limit of just text then. I assure you that in person I'm not this ungrateful about it lol.

Re: Random: A Keen Wii Fit Grandmother Has Reached 4,784 Days In The Game

Low_ink

@Nintendo_Thumb Given the definition, you are correct that she isn't casual. JUST casual, that is. Also I have done every entry of Wii Fit, so I know how it works. I assume all she does is the daily check and a few minigames every now and then. But for the sake of the argument I'll assume she plays at least 5 minigames a day.

( You really don't consider Wii Fit a casual game? Really? Whether or not something is casual doesn't depend on how hard it eventually gets, it depends on who it was built for. And I can guarantee it wasn't built for Nintendo's core fanbase.)

And I'll have to disagree about you needing to be extremely fit to be good at the game. The only minigames I can really think of requiring you to be somewhat okay is the biking, walking, hula hoops, and the weird one where you go on and off the balance board. But the thing is, unless you're in extremely bad shape or have a disability, getting through everything will be fairly easy. Yes, even if you're trying to 100% it. Of course it's not like some games where you can do it in a month or so. You'll have to train your body on what to do when, as well as making sure you conserve stamina to do so.

The game she's playing is a casual game. Therefore, she does fit into the casual category. If we assume she plays tons of minigames and is great at all of them, (Which again, is unlikely) she would also fit into the Pro category. People can go in multiple categories at once, either in the same game, or different ones. Check Anti-Matter's comment for an example.

But for the final nail in the coffin, look at shaneoh's comment. He provides ample evidence that she doesn't actually play every day! I honestly find this really funny, especially considering an entire article was written about this.

Also given the way you structured your comment it doesn't look like you fully read my previous comments. I made good arguments there that you should have read before replying. And if you did read them, well, please just be a bit more polite next time. Having discussions on topics like this is a lot harder when communication is slowed from rude short talk.

Re: Random: A Keen Wii Fit Grandmother Has Reached 4,784 Days In The Game

@westman98 Could you please let people try to actually discuss things instead of getting likes? Thank you.

@cyrus_zuo I think the term was created by by companies figuring out what type of game to make, as well as what demographic to market it towards.

On a scale, I'd put it like this: Nongamer, Casual, Core, Hardcore, Pro.
Nongamer is self-explanatory.
Casual should be easy enough to understand as well. But just incase it isn't, I'll give you the rundown. Casual gamers are people who don't play too many games, and when they do they don't do it for too long. They also primarily play Casual Games, like Mario Kart, Wii Fit, Nintendogs, Mario Party, as well as brand things like Pokemon, and Licensed games. But if they do play games a lot, it would probably be with their friends. You'll easily know one when you see one.
Core is your average gamer, they like a variety of games, and keep up on some of the news.
Hardcore is a step above that. They generally spend lots of time on a certain game, and are very close to mastery. They might not spend time on a large variety of games, but the ones they do play will impress many onlookers.
And as for Pro... Well these are the people that go to tournaments. They either play only a few games, or a large variety. In single player games, you most commonly see these people as speedrunners.

As you can see, there is a wide variety of types of gamers. I'm sure there's more I didn't mention, too. What I meant in my original comment, was that it's really impressive that a casual would spend so much time doing the same things. I was not in any way trying to put myself above ANYONE at all. All humans were created equal, after all.

As for people being called casual, well, I don't see anything wrong with it. I'm a casual reader. I occasionally read books. I find nothing wrong with people calling me that. What I would be mad about, is if people said it in a harmful way. 'Oh look, it's a stupid casual, we should make them feel BAD!' I don't think anyone likes being mocked or told they're lesser than others.

As for the definition, well I wouldn't say it really applies here. That is, after all, a very broad definition, going outside of the realm of gaming. The definitions I gave were very broad as well, but at least they were focused on games.

Regardless, thanks for triggering the writing part of my brain, it's always fun to do stuff like this! Even if it takes an hour of my life. If you want me to send you my thoughts on what makes a game, I'd be more than happy too. Until next time!

Re: Random: A Keen Wii Fit Grandmother Has Reached 4,784 Days In The Game

@Mr-Fuggles777 I understand what you mean, but I just couldn't think of a better term. She's using Wii Fit as a part of her life, not as a game.

Under my definition of casual, It would be anyone who isn't consistently buying games / consoles / gamepass or something. But even if they are, you can tell whether they're casual or core based on the types of games they play.

Somebody might buy a new console just to play Just Dance every year. Does that make them a core gamer? No, not if all they play are casual games. Does this mean those two types of people can't overlap, no, people will enjoy whatever they want to.

Also I don't judge based on how much time someone puts into a game, because that isn't a good metric. Like hey, someone puts over a 1000 hours into Cooking Mama, does that make them a core gamer? No, not if all they play is casual games.

I hope you understood my point, because I'm not always the best at communicating it through text. If you didn't, oh well, I just feel like you interpreted my calling her a casual as a bad thing. Regardless of silly terms, what she's been doing is really cool and something to be proud of! I bet she is.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (June 5th)

Low_ink

I finally got gamepass! There's a few games on there that I've been wanting to play, but not wanting to put money towards them. But there's also a few that I've been wanting to play but not having enough money for them. I have about 20 downloaded now, looking forward to playing them!

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Survival Games

Low_ink

@daebiya Minecraft (in it's current form) is impossible to beat.
If you mean killing the ender dragon, yes, but only if you want to continue after that.
If you mean killing the wither... don't even try. Well, not on bedrock hardmode at least. But if you somehow can kill it without losing everything, yes, the reward is amazing.
If you mean getting all achievements, no, not at all. There are many stupid achievements, one of which is having all status effects at once. This is impressive, but very disconnected from the rest of the game.

If you haven't really 'played' Minecraft though I'd recommend just staying away from it. You'll immediately get sucked in and spend hundreds, if not thousands of hours in it. Some time later you'll see that all the time you spent was a waste. So in my honest opinion, no it isn't worth it beating Minecraft. You'd have better luck with Terraria, even if it isn't too much of a survival game. (But neither is Minecraft, so...)

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Survival Games

Low_ink

I recommend Terraria. Is it much of a survival game? Maybe on your first playthrough and on hardcore. Does that make it bad? No! It's a wonderful game worth far more than the asking price! After a few playthroughs why not try out expert mode too. It's a wonderful experience seeing new items and ai. But if you're a pc player don't even get me started on mods... 10/10

Re: Minecraft's Caves & Cliffs Part One Update Arrives Next Week

Low_ink

@Chlocean Did you even read my long message? I don't want crunch, I'm jus disappointed that Minecraft cannot seem to get any substantial updates. Other games get them all the time. I personally believe that Minecraft is let down by it's developers. I didn't get mad when they delayed the update due to team health, just disappointed. Why couldn't they higher more people? We get hardly any updates as is. I know what I want, but it appears I'm bad at conveying it! (Although its not like I even play Minecraft anymore, so I really shouldn't be concerned about it.)

Re: Minecraft's Caves & Cliffs Part One Update Arrives Next Week

Low_ink

@EliteXeos I understand everything takes time. I'm also not a game developer. But the rate at which they develop and add updates is honestly laughable. Minecraft is the best selling videogame of all time, and is also owned by Microsoft. Mods add content faster than the devs. So do other games.

Minecraft's updates hardly include any content, with (what I believe to be) the game's largest update ever including only 3 new biomes. 3!

The worldgen is so bad that there's countless mods and plugins to fix it. The only reason people voted for mountains was because they suck! And the update that will fix at least a little bit of worldgen gets split into two parts?

And if we look back at the nether update, I could see that much content easily getting added in a month or two. Of course they would need a large team, but this is the best selling videogame of all time! They could easily higher a big enough team for that.

But Minecraft will never be like that. It will continue to slowly move through updates forever. At this point it isn't even fun for me. So I look to something else. Something with an adequate amount of content on release day. Something built with adventure in mind. Something exciting.

Hytale. A game inspired by Minecraft, but better in every way. It can't be complacent. If it is, well, it'll die soon after release. The graphics are modern. It is built on the grounds of custom content. It looks to be huge in comparison to Minecraft.

If a team originally made for developing a Minecraft server can make a game better than Minecraft, well I don't see why Microsoft can't make their game a whole lot better.

Also careful about replying to me, it may just end up in 16 paragraphs.

Re: Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity Expansion Pass Appears For Free, Thanks To An eShop Exploit

Low_ink

I had to make a new account, but it was worth the trouble! I bet it'll get removed soon though.

EDIT: For those wondering, I live in the US, where it was at listed as not for purchase. I made an account for Australia, and was able to download it for free! I'm glad that it works for my 100% US playthrough. But I later looked back on the Australian eshop and found it labeled as not for download. I believe it's fixed.

Re: Roblox Dev Open To A Switch Release

Low_ink

I understand what roblox is going for, but it just doesn't work for me. I hate the graphics, especially the character models. Another thing is that most players are kids, meaning most games are just made for them to play / spend money on them. I don't like roblox.

Re: Netflix Is Reportedly Eager To Expand Into Video Games

Low_ink

I could see it happening. If they bought some studios and let them make what they want, it could be good and add value to Netflix. Of course I'd want to be able to download the games instead of streaming, even if you have to be online to play them. If they do it right it could be good, very good in fact. Lets hope they do.

Re: Review: Miitopia - A Daft DIY Adventure With Boundless Appeal, If You Make The Effort

Low_ink

@Dog I paid $20 for my favorite game of all time. I paid $25 for my third favorite. Those games were clearly worth a lot more than what I paid for them, with lots of quality and love put into them. This is a port of a 3ds game. It clearly did not take much effort at all to produce. And yet they charge more for it than they originally did. Wanting a fair price is not the same thing as being entitled.
And also, why do you spread so much negativity? Just looking through your comments it seems you find much delight in doing so. I have to say, that it really is people like you that make people think gamers are entitled. Not people like me or mando.
