Another week has passed, with lots of intriguing news and a certain thing not appearing. You know what we mean, but let's focus on stuff that actually happened.
SEGA hosted its first Sonic Central, which confirmed three games and various other cameo appearances to celebrate 30 years, more games arrived on Nintendo Switch Online, there were exciting Pokémon release dates, along with all sorts of Dragon Quest news. A bumper week!
It's time to unwind a little and discuss our weekend gaming plans. Members of the Nintendo Life team have done just that below, so feel free to give our entries a read and then join in with your own via our comment section. Enjoy!

I still have plenty of Resident Evil: Village to go and I'm enjoying it a great deal; it's not particularly scary like its predecessor, but the setting and action is a lot of fun. I've also been getting into Knockout City on Series X, but I'm also very impressed with the Switch version; it's definitely worth checking out.
On Switch I'm still slowly working through Famicom Detective Club: The Girl Who Stands Behind; I only play when I know I have the time to finish a whole chapter at a time. Also on the agenda is Monster Hunter Rise, which has updated to version 3.0 and added a new ending. And of course I'll go along for K.K's concert in Animal Crossing: New Horizons - I still haven't missed one. I also have an urge to charge my 3DS and do a run of 3D Sonic The Hedgehog 2.
And yes, I’ll play MLB The Show too.

I've been playing this little game called The House In Fata Morgana. Apparently, it's good? I'm about... ten hours in, I would guess, and I have noooo idea what's going on.
I've also almost completed Resident Evil 4, I think, which is another game where I have no idea what it's about. I mean, I thought it was zombies and snake-monsters, but I just fought an angry, beefy, topless man who was allergic to knives, so... yeah. It's a weird game.

I've been chipping away at New Pokémon Snap over the past week, so I'm hoping I can wrap up my playthrough of that over the next few days. I'm also planning to try out Fighting EX Layer: Another Dash and Super Bomberman R Online - two free-to-play titles that I probably would have paid good money for a number of years ago. One other game I'll be returning to (after an incredibly long break) is Sonic Colors on the DS. I never really gave this game as much time as it probably deserved when it was released, and with a Switch release on the horizon - now is the time. Enjoy your weekend, everyone.

An interesting weekend ahead as I try not to go turn on the Wii. R-Type Final 2 finally (ah!) showed up, I expect to spend quite some time with it beyond this weekend. Still on the physical front Maneater and Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster will be added to my legendary backlog of shame. More exciting on the digital front is Knockout City, the delightful Very Very Valet, ZX Spectrum heaven Eight Dragons, “Made in Portugal” Pecaminosa, Super Bomberman R Online and the phenomenal sci-fi epic Crying Suns.
Book of the week is Ask Iwata. This kind sir once asked us to keep smiling, so I have been complying ever since. Hope so are you lot out there.

Hello all! I don't know about you, but now that the weather has finally decided to stop raining for a bit, I'll be spending some time outside this weekend! With the Switch of course, obviously... I plan on playing lots of Super Bomberman R Online for an upcoming review, and I'll also be diving back into Sonic Mania after watching the Sonic Central showcase. It still astonishes me how good that game is; after years of average to mediocre Sonic games, Christian Whitehead just swoops in and makes potentially the best game in the franchise! Magical.
As always, thanks for reading! Make sure to leave us a comment below with your gaming choices over the next few days...

Mostly playing Subnautica. 20+ hours in and I’m still too scared to venture too far away from the Safe Shallows.
I’m also planning to start Famicom Detective Club: The Girl Who Stands Behind soon. I played The Missing Heir last week and really enjoyed it so looking forward to checking the second one out.
Maybe I’ll squeeze in a bit of Monster Hunter Rise at some point to finish off the last few quests from the new update.
Danganronpa 2 and Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. Neither of them are on Switch, both of them should be.
Olive Town and heading back to octopath again. Still grinding to prepare for the final boss.
This week I will be mostly playing
Pokémon Black
New Horizons
Seems like a lot of people, including myself, will be playing Themselves after all the rumours about rumours this week.
MH Rise on the Switch front and a bunch of games like Rare Replay on the XB1 front. Need 50 gamerscore in the next few days to be able to get something I want from Microsoft Rewards.
SMT III Nocturne for me.
I am absolutely loving everything about it so far, especially it’s atmosphere.
playing PC port of GetsuFumaDen for NES. such a phenomenal game, way ahead of its time.
also slowly diving into Yokai Watch 2. loving the atmosphere and art direction.
Got oriella will of wisps last week and was loving it on switch lite until I get to that bit where u have to hold l shoulder button and turn stick at the same time to bounce off things but it feels so uncomfortable to do I cramp my hands. A beautiful game but mite have ruined it for me. I am old. Xx mite play bare knuckle 3 xx
I'm currently playing through Mass Effect 1 in the Legendary Edition. I'm also playing some Monster Hunter Rise.
Still freaking out about Sonic colors, MH rise, And bomber man R online, Bomber man is fun, Got some gripes with it but overall, been playing alot.
Been loving Bomberman Online, brings back such good memories of my time spent with Atomic Bomberman 😄. If only the loading times weren't so abysmal
Hades (NS) - I bought hades last weekend and I almost reached the true ending already. I was on a good 5 win streak but lost last night. 3 more wins till the credits.
The bureau: xcom declassified (ps3) - wanted to try this game for a while now, excited to play it.
Immortals: fenyx rising (ps5) - hades got me in a greek mood so I’ll be continueing where I left off in january.
On Switch, A Little Lily Princess besides the ongoing backlog focus items like Limbo, Layers of Fear 2, Resident Evil and Portia. Also might use the opportunity to briefly try some previous acquisitions I had no room for on purchase, even though it'll take swapping them in and out of internal memory. Outside Switchland, definitely planning more Namco x Capcom, hoping for some Vita stuff (God Eater, Monster Monpiece, MotorStorm RC) and some 3DS stuff (Fire Emblem, Ace Attorney, RPG Maker and Etrian Odyssey). In other words, pretty much the usual.
@StefanN I agree, kinda makes it hard to want to play the game. Edit: I looked it up, and they said there going to fix the loading times.
Daily Mario kart races
I’m gonna be trying to finish the bonus worlds on Super Mario 3D world
Hyrule warriors Age of Calamity and botw
I finished odyssey not too long ago, I might hunt some more moons
Been in the worst gaming rut imaginable ever since I finished YS VIII a couple weeks ago (lots of personal life stuff probably didn't help this) but I was desperately trying to enjoy something; you know the kinda game you turn on and then suddenly it's bedtime but I just haven't found that spark yet despite flicking through my backlog for the 'hook', so i'm playing Moero Crystal H just for the sake if it because its solid, consistent and I loved the previous game. Probably would have enjoyed Digimon Cyber Sleuth if I wasn't a Diginoob and my brain didn't get fried from all the branching paths of digilutions.
Switch - Continuing my Miitopia playthrough!
PS4 - GTA Online with friends!
PC - Hypnospace Outlaw!
Have a good weekend everyone.
I'm gonna play the miitopia demo and i'm gonna make all my friends.
Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir
Just about to finish the game. The first half was nice but the second half is really good. It eases you in and once you're comfy, stuff starts to happen. Will move onto the second game as soon as I've finished this one.
Burnout Paradise
I grew up playing Burnout 3 and Revenge on my brother's XBOX and I also played Paradise on PC back in the day but now I've returned after a really long break from the series. I like just driving around Paradise City breaking things and completing time trials but the races and other events just aren't as fun. The races just don't work as well in an open world. I miss Burnout 3. That's the game they really should remake.
New Pokémon Snap
I believe I'm still missing 11 Pokémon. I also want to find all the branching paths and I'm missing 3 or 4. I know which stages they're in thanks to the achievement system but I haven't figured out how to trigger them. Would like to go for 100% but not sure if it'll hold my interest for that long. I'm already 30 hours in. This is pretty much a perfect sequel.
Super Bomberman R Online
I downloaded it and had time for one match on Thursday. I already know from the little I played that I could sink many hours into it. I used to play Bomberman a lot. Mega Bomberman (Bomberman '94) with friends and family, Bomberman for the N-Gage on the go and Bomberman Blast online. The friend group I have now isn't as much into Bomberman so I've not played it much lately either.
This week I finally started making progress in Dragon Quest XI, so I want to continue that momentum this weekend. Serena and Veronica just joined my party, and I've been enjoying the game so much now! If I'm in the mood for something else I'll probably make some progress in Atelier Ryza 2.
@Dragonslacker1 I think I know the part that you are talking about, and it was difficult for me also. And, I was not playing on the lite. But I encourage you to stick with it. That is only one section with that mechanic (I think) and there is so much to that game. I had difficulties in the sand burrowing section. The game is so good and the ending---well, no spoilers. I wish you well.
Trying to finish Mario 3D, it is one of those games that you stall at the end because you don't want to finish it. But, I haven't even got to Bowsers Fury! I got to finish it.
Rocket League, Travel Mosaics and ACNH.
I really like Aerial Knights Never Yield! Yes, the runner is not too difficult, but the music is great! In a similar way that I bought Sayanora Wild Hearts for the music first, game play second, so also I bought Aerial Knights for music first. And the visuals of Aerial Knight are pretty cool.
Happy gaming everyone!
I'vr started playing Phoenix Wright:Ace Attorney. Trying not to let the horrifying character art scare me off.
Went back to SOS: Olive Town since the Windswept Falls DLC just landed.
Need to get a couple of sessuons in with Ring Fit Adventurr over the course of the long weekend. And I'll probably spend some time in R-Type Final 2 and Steredenn.
Probably some Bomberman Online, mixed in with Pac-Man & Tetris online too. It’s weird how I have never taken to online multiplayer shooters, but I thoroughly enjoy Tetris ‘99 and then these two. And I’m not totally awful at them!
The last Bomberman I played was Eric and the Floaters (ask your dad - it’s a Hudson game from the early ‘80’s) and so this new iteration is giving me a lot of enjoyment 😊
The Last of Us Part II. I got it dirty cheap for 15$. Currently I am enjoying the environments.
Still The World Ends with You -Final Remix-.
Working on post game stuff now.
Half way trough 100% completion of AC 4 Black flag. Very motivated to continue to the end since I'm a big fan of the whole series and this game. Last AC I played was the original part 3 on PS3. Always was on the fence about part 4 and now it's even better than I thought.
Went to the hospital yesterday and got some good news so with all the unpleasantries out of the way I'll be revisiting Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 on the Gamecube. Haven't played it since 2003 when I was still skating myself. Also played it on pc. Loving the controls so far!
Besides that I'll be editing my first YouTube video for my upcoming channel!
Just like last weekend, I'll be playing some Nexomon Extinction. I'll also be checking out Joe & Mac, as well as Magical Drop 2 via Nintendo Switch Online. I might even find the time to squeeze in another Mega Man 11 playthrough over the weekend as well.
If I have the time I’ll either play some Sonic Generations on XBox or Sonic 3&K on my homebrew 3DS. A couple of Sonic announcements got me wanting to go back to some his classics.
Mostly Bravely Default 2 and Ori the Will of the Wisps
Shin megami tensei iii switch & persona 5 strikers switch Atlus all round.. started playing for the very first time shin megami tensei iii, Hopefully it will hook me SMT iii. Never played before. Hope I don't regret this purchase. Playing basically because of atlus superb story telling.
Another great weekend of gaming ahead! I’ll be finishing my first run through RE Village and continuing through Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition in celebration of it’s 1 year since release.
I’m also looking to play through Ratchet & Clank 2016 before Rift Apart comes out in a couple weeks.
What’s everyone else playing during this holiday weekend? Looking forward to it!
Continuing with Ori and the will of wisp. Still stuck on sand area. Play a bit SAO Hollow Realization and tackle Doom 3. I think that's it for weekend
Some more Okami HD for me. Just finished the Moon Cave dungeon last night, at 11 hours in. It's still really fun after all of these years. That'll pretty much be it for me, and maybe a bit of Arcade 1ups tonight.
I've finished The Longest Road on Earth (it was a nice experience) and I'll probably play some Werewolf Earthblood, Blood Bowl and Pyre.
I was just playing Descenders, Lonely Mountains Downhill, Rocket League, The Flame in the Flood, Solar 2, and (free for a couple more days on steam) Little Nightmares on my laptop. It's weird because Descenders says it's running at 170 fps, my laptop screen goes up to 144 fps, and yet it sometimes looks less smooth than Descenders running on my PS4 Pro on my old 60fps TV. Maybe Unity can still manage to have uneven frame times even at higher frame rates. On Switch I've been enjoying Rabisco+, Bomberman 64 royale, a little Knockout City, Gris, Raiden lV Mikado remix, Space Invaders Invincible Collection, and New Pokemon Snap.
Probably P5s or ori and the blind forest, but I'd be lying to myself if I said I wasn't going to play Miitopia
I'm with family this weekend so probably some Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with my brother. I'm getting him to help me win 3 stars on all the 200cc cups which is proving to be really difficult. Those courses just weren't made for that kind of speed even if you use your breaks a ton...
Now that I've played through a majority of Republic Commando, I'm watching my brother play through it. He said he always saw it in stores and wanted to play it but never had an Xbox so now he's finally getting to try it, and he seems to have liked it so far as he played through a decent chunk of Geonosis already.
Other than that, I'm probably playing some Doom, Doom Eternal, etc...
The World Ends With You and the Dragon Quest Builders 2 demo. all the DQ news got me hyped so might actually pick up DQXI S on Switch soonish aswell (played and finished it on PS4 once before) and give it another playthrough. Such an awesome game.
Just started a new game on one of my favourites games of all time: Final Fantasy X.
Haven't played it in years, and the memories ate all coming back now...such a great game!
More Subnautica, hoping to finish it up this weekend.
Just started a new playthrough of "A Link Between Worlds" so mostly that along with continuing my "Age of Calamity" run through. However, I'll also be sprinkling in some "Dota Underlords" on my computer lol.
@Cosmofantasmo I actually just got a ps4 recently so was hoping to start the series! Which one do you reccomend most for a new player on the system?
Game & Watch Gallery 2 (GBC) - Mostly playing Vermin, may also play Chef.
Minecraft: Story Mode (Windows 10) - After finishing Guardians of the Galaxy, I decided to play this again. Starting on Episode 1.
Lines: The Game (Windows Phone) - Still making decent progress on this.
With the 3.0 title update It’s been nonstop Monster Hunter Rise for me! I was slightly behind but finally caught up to the update this week so I’ll be grinding to HR100 for the Valtrax quest
I actually got to play some Super Mario Sunshine yesterday! a 5 year old brought his Switch to dinner at my restaurant & was stuck on the opening level cause he couldn’t figure out how to aim the FLUUD. Naturally, I helped and found out he’s been stuck at that point since Christmas! I’m not sure how far he’ll get haha sunshine is not easy!
Happy gaming everyone!
Switch - Monster Hunter Rise
PS5 - Resident Evil: Village
Knockout City obviously!
I'll be doing Terraria and some Levelhead. I'm excited to see how in-depth Levelhead's creation tools are.
PC: Arcade Spirits. Only five achievements to go. Slime Rancher was on sale so I finally picked it up, I might try that this weekend. The Sims 4 (my personal favorite of the series) maybe. Last but not least is Shadowrun Returns. I played that on my tablet (got it on Humble Bundle ages ago, I wouldn't have it on mobile otherwise) but decided to switch over to the PC version since I have that too. I don't remember when I got it, but it's in my Steam library with the other two so probably some sale years ago.
Switch: Balder's Gate: Dark Alliance. Super Mario 3D World, which I am so close to finishing. Oh, and ACNH like always.
3DS: I just got a new charger for my 3DS so I can play DS/3DS games again! I might try to finish Ever Oasis. I was going to buy Style Savvy: Styling Star, but apparently I already did. o_O I am going to play that.
@dugan it’s a beautiful looking game, played a bit more but stuck again now got to a snow bit after feathering the bear xx happy gaming x
I just picked up Ori and the will of the wisps on sale, and it’s amazing- I’ll be playing that and only that until I beat it and move on to Going Under.
I'm 50 hours into Breath of the Wild and only just about to head to a tower that'll see me unlock over half the map.
Also getting close to finishing Full Metal Furies main game (I think) on local co-op, as well as having hilarious multiplayer fun trying the Wrestling Empire demo and playing Hidden in Plain Sight.
Every weekend it’s fun to see everyone’s choices and remember there’s sooooo many good games out there!
This rainy 3-day weekend my 10yo is into home improvements in ACNH so I’ll have to give her some snowflakes or recipes she missed.
Otherwise I hope to play more Subnautica (loving my Seamoth and how it’s opened up deeper but SCARIER areas) or go back to MonHun Rise (and start on the 4☆ quests).
Civ revolution 2 on the 360.
Final Fantasy X
Maybe some Super Mario World: Yoshi's island
I'll look into bomberman after the loading issues are fixed.
Still a ton of fire emblem 3H. Haven't had much time for anything else.
@NotoriousWhiz "I'll look into bomberman after the loading issues are fixed."
This is the right call. The game is great. It's designed to be played in marathon sessions of bite sized gameplay. The 4+ minute(!) match load times currently make it unplayable.
Finished Ring Fit Adventure, the final boss was so hard I'm aching. Also going to finish Tales of Xillia and then not sure what game I'll go for next as my physical version of Kaze and the Wild Masks hasn't arrived yet.
This has been a good week for me to revisit games I had previously made opinions on. I'm trying to finish Bowser's Inside Story on the DS, and Hyper Light Drifter on my Switch. Both are very good and have caused me more than a little frustration for VERY different reasons.
Also in light of the news I do want to revisit Sonic Mania. I was not at all impressed when it launched, but maybe that was just where I was at the time.
I hope to wrap up the rest of the Village quests in Monster Hunter Rise this weekend. I've just unlocked HR4 via the License Test. It's a very fun game with continuing content updates, but I'm starting to get the itch to move on. I'm thinking about starting a new Switch game, something that'll tide me over until Ys IX rolls out in early July.
On 3DS, I'm currently working through Celica's side of Act 4 in Fire Emblem Echoes. These miasma maps, coupled with many slow units, are no joke.... -_-'
As usual, a few minutes of Pokemon Go will get worked in on occasion.
Have a great weekend! Happy gaming!
This morning I have been playing
TROPICO 6
This weekend, a bit more of Jimmy Neutron Jet Fusion on GBA. Started playing the game earlier in the week. Also, Sonic Colors on Wii and DS, the announcement of made me want to play the original games again.
Animal Crossing New Horizons and Splatoon 2. I've put Persona 5 Strikers down for awhile now. The game is very repetitive and I kind of got burnt out on it. Real time commitment with that game as well. Some times an hour between save points.
Bloodstaind, Fez, FF VII, NBA 2K21 because NBA playoffs are in full swing.
Playing the Sega Astro City Mini. But will still make time for Animal Crossing and Monster Hunter Rise on Switch.
@Snatcher Oh thank god, that gives me hope 😅. Thank you for telling me!
Blargh. Just when I thought I was finally almost done with Death Squared (AKA "ロロロロ" in Japan, which is actually two ロs cooler than the band "口ロロ"), I discovered that the game rewards/punishes you for solving all of the puzzles by giving you more puzzles. I am SO ready to move on to something else...
Super Bomberman R Online and a little bit of Ys VIII.
@Nintendo_Pone I hate when that happens, I feel your pain haha.
Rocket League - I'll try to get back to Plat 3 in 3v3's. Although, I may have to team up to get there. I keep getting teammates that constantly double commit in corners while defending, which can be fixed with far post goal rotation defense. That's not to say I'm amazing, my offense is often weaker than others. I'll probably do some 3v3 tournaments, too.
(If anyone reading doesn't know how to rotate in Rocket League, you will rank up if you rotate and maintain good spacing. There are many youtube vids - sunless kahn, johnny_boi, mr-napkin, spookluke, virge, wayton pilken)
Managed to pick a pokeball plus and let’s go Pikachu for £40 so playing that so I can get me some new Pokémon to take to Pokémon sword with me for when I get the season pass for that as I’ve finnished the game and not too much for me to do on it at the moment so hopefully some good fun reliving my childhood with let’s go Pikachu!
Finally got 100% on Tropical Freeze last night. Started Narita Boy but it is so far boring the hell out of me. Gonna give it another chance but might switch to Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Just finished Assassin’s Creed Rogue so I’ve started Neo Cab, which was on sale a couple of weeks back. Good little game.
Monster Hunter Rise!
Anybody want to join? Will be online in 4 hours.
Working most of the weekend sadly, but will squeeze in some gaming where I can. Recently made the stupid decision to buy Skyrim (again) on switch - £50, more money than sense. But the ability to have that game portable was too much! So il be playing that when I can.
Downloaded bomberman but haven't played it yet so hopefully dip my toe if I get chance.
Dragon Quest and Paper Mario, both for the first time and both on switch - plus never played any in either of their respective series.
Really enjoyed the first couple hours of paper Mario, however not sure what I feel about the battle waves.
i just finished the true final boss of Monster Hunter Rise and now i trying to go to HR 100(currently at HR 74).
I actually haven't played much this past week because school and work have been crazy lately 😅.
I've been pretty hooked on Doom Eternal and hoping I can finish it next week! I also did a few levels in Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon. Other than that, I haven't played much else.
SMT III HD Remaster of course!
I am out of town with the family this weekend, and so I brought one of my trusty 3ds's, and Dragon Quest VI. The only one of the Zenithia Trilogy I haven't beaten yet!
Funny my comment disappeared.
But it will be Monster Hunter Rise. If someone wants to join! Hit me up.
Finally downloading xenoblade chronicles 2 tornas country. I have the physical addition sealed and want to keep it that way even if it’s only a code. Also mlb the show for ps5 and more returnal
Wave Race on GameCube, Mr Heli on PC-Engine and hopefully finishing Final Fantasy VII Remake.
I didn't knew Super Bomberman R Online already came out. Time to try that one.
I picked up Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory on sale a few days ago and that's been eating up quite a bit of my Switch time, so that's definitely going to continue. I should try to squeeze in Final Fantasy IX as well. I have Ratchet & Clank 2 going again on PS3 as well, and as usual, I'd love to get back to Valkyria Chronicles Remastered and Doom Eternal TAG Part 2.
Just picked up Monster Hunter Rise, cuz I read that it was pretty good and accessable to both casual, and expert players. We shall see if I get sucked in... Haven't played a MH since MH4U on 3DS.
@StefanN Yeah, the loading times kinda suck on Bomberman 64 royale. I've been playing Rocket League, Lonely Mountains Downhill, and other games on my new laptop and they load instantly or almost instantly. It's so nice. I hope the new Switch has at least some SSD type internal storage because it is awesome.
@WoomyNNYes I like what you're saying. I make lots of mistakes, but I find when I do stick to good rotation practices I can make some amazing plays just because of that (even with my somewhat poor play skills). It is so satisfying when I do what those youtube training videos say and then get results directly from it. I also find myself participating in double and even triple commits and obviously losing points quickly to the other team
@60frames-please Yeah, learning new stuff in Rocket League and taking it into matches is super fun & satisfying. I played like 80 hours of casual 3v3, before I took a look at some youtube Rocket League tips videos. And man, did it help. I never would have played more than 150-200 hours if hadn't learned some basics.
I've got over a 1000 hours now, the play is faster and more fun. Although, at plat 2-3, I'm starting to lose kickoffs to people doing speed flips. I've messed around with speed flips, but mine aren't fast, and I can't aim them (they're awful😉). So, I'm still just doing a regular front flip. I've noticed Jon Sandman still does ok in Champ rank with just front flipping.
To be honest, I play Biomutant and the game is awesome, unlike so people like to disagree and even complain in streams like in the one from Kiara from Hololive UK. It is just dumb.
Switch has no games, so nothing
Right now I'm playing Star Ocean: First Departure R to make a little more progress, but I'm gonna pop in to Super Bomberman R Online at some point. Beyond that I'll get back into Ys Origins again to continue that.
Received my preorder from Best Buy of SMT III: Nocturne HD Remaster, but it’ll be going on the backlog for now. Thankful to have a “merciful” mode for when I eventually do get around to playing it.
Currently playing Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen on DS. I’m in the final stretch, nearing the 30 hr mark and I’ve been loving every minute of this wonderfully unique yet classic JRPG.
Recently started a new play-through of Earthbound on 3DS, though it’s taking a back seat to me finishing DQIV first. But I couldn’t resist starting it up and playing the opening hour or so. I had played 60-70% of it a handful of years back via emulation on my PSP, but amidst several issues with that set up I ended up (regrettably) losing my save data and subsequently never managed to finish it. Loved what I had played though, so I’m excited to jump into this and finish my first full play-through next after DQIV.
Several games I’ve shelved for the time being after making moderate progress: Persona 5 Strikers, Tales of Vesperia, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Trails of Cold Steel II...
Battling the backlog continues ad infinitum. But better to have more games than less I suppose.
@Guitar_bard Oh that’s awesome! I never hear anyone talking about DQVI. Seems like it’s often ignored or disliked.
I recently went on a big hunt to gather up all the remaining mainline DQ entries that I was missing in my collection, which included me having to pay exorbitant prices for the DS Zenithian trilogy (I refused to buy the mobile ports — even if they retained the party chat feature). Managed to also get the IV and VI strategy guides, too. I’m almost done with my play-through of IV, and then will be excited to eventually jump into V and VI as well.
@Redfield70x7 I went through the same thing a year ago (I wanted all of the DS and 3DS versions). It was pricy but so worth it.
IV was an amazing game, and of course V is considered legendary, but I really am enjoying VI a lot. It is a very special game. In fact, I was checking out the 11S demo, and as great as it was, I stopped to go back to VI.
That is awesome that you got the strategy guides. I would love to find them for a good price.
@WoomyNNYes Nice, I didn't start watching Rocket League videos till recently. They help a lot! Yeah, I do forward flips. I haven't practiced speed flips much, and can't aim well with them, or even do them consistently yet. I've beaten people who were doing speed flips on kickoffs, but they were probably learning/messing up. I assume that's true because I've also had people totally beat me to a kickoff. They were probably doing perfect speed flips.
The stuff about rotating and back post positioning seems so basic that I wish the devs would make it part of the advanced tutorial, and even divide solo queing into ball chasing chaos and rotating groups. When I have teammates hitting me, driving against rotation, I just start trying to win by myself (and assuming they won't shoot at passes I offer up, so I try to shoot my own passes).
I'm also starting to enjoy aerial training packs. I suck, but it's fun.
Oh, and I think I'm basically a gold 3 player. I travel up into platinum, but usually only when I happen upon a decent team and we rotate well and maybe get lucky on some stuff.
@Dragonslacker1 Hey friend, I want to encourage you to play the game, but also encourage you if you want to quit.
I put more than 10 hours into Hollow Knight before I quit that game. I really liked the visuals, the game play--but the save points and boss fights really frustrated me. While I wanted to continue to play, I had to convince myself frustration is not fun. While a little or a medium amount of frustration is okay, there comes a point . . .
You probably already knew this, but I know sometimes I need reminders.
@dugan played til 2 last night and did an hour this morning, completed with 40% completion. A very very good game! Still got lost a few more times. Some very fiddly bits near the end tho! Probably the most visually beautiful modern game I have seen. I think I’m going to start again and try for 100%. Xx
I’m the exact way with hollow knight and didn’t get far at all , but wish u could respawn nearby, but mite go back one day x
@Guitar_bard For sure, and I hope you do! Just like the games, they’ve shot up in price to near absurd amounts. I don’t know how, but I managed to get VI’s guide for $30! IV’s was a bit more at $40, but that’s the lowest I’ve seen for both.
And I know there’s a divide between “use strategy guides and have fun” and “using strategy guides is cheating and a big no-no” but for these types of older JRPGs that don’t hold your hand, (and I hear VI is especially open and non-linear/hand-hold-y) I’d have to have a guide if I wanted to get all the way through — and I do. Haha!
@dugan the older I get, the more valuable time is and putting myself through the ringer just to try and “beat” a game just isn’t worth it to me anymore.
I enjoy a moderate challenge in some games, but not when it means me repeatedly losing hours of progress, wasting time wandering around trying to figure out what to do next, etc.
Hollow Knight looks gorgeous though. And I’ve heard almost nothing but good things about it. But the sparse save points and so on keep me back for sure.
@Late I really enjoyed Burnout 3, and haven't given another entry in the series a try since then really. I was digging through my old games recently, looking for my copy, and I can't find it at the moment, but if I do, I'll be firing it up. Not only do I remember playing and really enjoying the races in it (great sense of speed), but also the crash mode that was absolutely awesome at the time was enjoyed a lot by my wife.
But, as for this weekend and what I'll be playing, or have already played...
My wife and I are playing through Donkey Kong Country co-op together, and having a lot of fun with it.
I played a little bit of Animal Crossing yesterday, just sharing some extra DIYs.
And, I might fire up some Speed Limit on the Switch and try some new PBs and maybe WRs on it, since the new update just hit it this past week.
I was gonna play Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World for the bulk of the weekend, but my Retro-Bit SEGA Saturn Bluetooth Controller's D-Pad Actuator broke, and the Right button doesn't get pressed. Luckily, I bought the SEGA Genesis Bluetooth Controller (also from Retro-Bit), and hopefully, the D-Pad durability will be better than the Saturn one. It'll be delivered around tomorrow afternoon.
I’m going to try out Crying Suns this afternoon. Was not on my radar until the mention by Gonçalo Lopes above—anyone on here have any experience with the game?
@60frames-please Yeah, the caveat of far post rotation is having to accept you're probably the only one doing it below diamond? ranks. Some people are starting to do far post in platinum 2-3, but most times my teammates are still doing near post defense. They think I'm sitting in goal, and don't realize I'm ready for someone to rotate in behind me. So, you have to accept that others won't be doing it for a while, except on rare occasion.
Another crucial part of far post rotation, accepting that going to the far corner for the big boost pad is risky. You may already know this.😉
I'm playing the guitar.
@Redfield70x7 Thanks for your words! I don't regret the hours that I put into Hollow Knight, but I also don't regret quitting it after growing frustration with lack of save points. And more save points make a difference. I died over 5000 times playing Celeste, but I finished that great game because of a great story line and generous save points.
I recently quit Fez. After getting 90% through and realizing that to finish would mean tedious back tracking etc etc, I decided that although I love the visuals and music, it was not worth it.
But--I am so happy to play and finish games like both Ori games, Shantae games, and many more. I like games that have moderate difficulty, but offer extra challenges for a different ending or for 100% completion stuff.
Like you said: the older I get, the more valuable time is!
@TheWingedAvenger working on anything in particular? To make a friend laugh I recently tried to learn Tainted Love but with a bossa nova rhythm.
@WoomyNNYes Yeah,I like Wilton's concept of timed arrival. If there's time, you can add the little side trip to the big boost pad so you arrive at the collision area at the perfect time (and with momentum cuz you didn't have to stop at far post spot)
@WatsonWatson
"Tainted Love" in a bossa nova style? I'm trying to imagine Joao Gilberto doing that song, and I can see how that could turn out great! You uncannily guessed the genre of one of the songs I'm playing and singing these days: "Eu Sei Que Eu Vou Te Amar" by Caetano Veloso.
@theriku260
Totally missed your question, sorry. Until now I’ve only AC I to IV since I stopped buying PlayStation after the PS3. If you’re are interested in the whole background, you’ll have to start with part I, although the main mechanics of the series are not as fleshed out as in the later games. I think AC III is the worst to start with because it’s very difficult to understand the background story without the first two parts. Apart from that I think you can choose the game with the most interesting time period for you. Additionally I heard that the games after the reboot of the series (Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla) are all good.
