@Thoughts They could have put undergarments on them. Doesn't that happen with the more cartoony build-a-bears already? I really can only see this as scummy or lazy.
@TheFrenchiestFry Yes, but they could change that for the switch version! There's no reason why they can't put in the effort to make that happen! But even if they didn't, if it wasn't cloud people with bad connections could play. Even though it wouldn't be perfect, it would still be better than what we have now.
(And I'm not salty about not being able to play it, I have a more than stable connection for streaming, and a gaming laptop from last year. It's just that lots of people don't have a great internet connection.)
@nessisonett They may not, but it would be nice if they could! It would only really be a best case scenario, but even if you had to be connected to the internet to play, it would still be better than streaming, specifically for those with bad internet connections.
@nessisonett Nice, sounds like a good time! As for it being pointless, I'd have to agree, but it wouldn't be too hard of a thing to change for a switch release, right?
@nessisonett In the first one at least, you could still play offline, you just wouldn't qualify for the leaderboards. Which I would say is worth the tradeoff for playing on the go. Or they could make a custom switch-only leaderboard, that could work too.
You can play through all the stages on the other platforms? I assume you'd need to own all three games to do so, but that's still really neat!
@Darknilious Yeah, it really is for an extremely small group of people. Cross saves and the last games though? Yeah, then there's a reason for it on switch.
@mariomaster96 It's funny, because they could've charged $120 for a dock for the lite and it would've been great for everyone, but they didn't for some reason and it's strange. I completely agree though.
@Kalmaro The only place you could play is somewhere with a good internet connection. So mostly just at home. I think there's some cars with internet, but not many. You would have to specifically pay extra to have a hotspot from your phone.
But not playing everywhere isn't even the only problem! Why on earth would someone play the third game in the series without playing the first few first? If they're trying to attract a crowd of switch players, wouldn't it make sense to put the first two on switch first? I played the first one, and it seems like the story is continued on through the next two.
As for putting in the effort, well yeah, I think they should've! Yes it takes more money than cloud, but then it actually works for the switch. Apparently Crash 4 did an excellent job porting with the hardware in mind, which is good to hear. In my opinion, if your gonna do something, you should at least do it good.
Having all of these problems at once makes it a strange thing to put on switch. If they would at least put the first two I could forgive them more. But if they don't, well I don't really understand why they it's on here.
I think cloud gaming is a good thing, but on switch? It completely defeats the whole 'play anywhere' aspect of the system. And how many people want to play Hitman 3 without playing the 'first' two? Not many, because why would you? I really don't understand why they put this on switch.
@sketchturner I have it on pc, and well its a blast! It is currently my favorite multiplayer game, despite it being so simple. Anyone can easily grasp the controls, but the skill cap is very high. The game is also very glitchy, but not when you first boot it up. This means that the longer you play the more interesting things happen. While they aren't really intended, you can use certain glitches to your advantage. (E.g. going through the floor.) The items are really fun, and if you only use one or two at a time, it gets very interesting. You can also set it to show how many wins each player has at the bottom of the screen, making it a bit more competitive. It essentially feels like playing through one of Alan Becker's animations, which is really fun! Overall, I really recommend this game! 9/10!
I thought it was a battle royale game at first, but regardless I'm not really interested. The graphics look kinda bad, and that was an Xbox trailer! I'm also not a fan of the combat. Good it's there for those who want it though!
Optifine isn't a shader pack, it is simply the software needed to run shaders.
But the castle does look very well put together; I remember I once made made peaches castle in Minecraft as an adventure map! But I'm pretty sure it was terrible, I remember one of the bosses was just you flicking a lever to blow it up! My later maps were much better than that.
I honestly can't tell so much of a difference that it would matter to me. I would want to play it with ray tracing if they redid the rest of the game to look good with it, but they didn't, so it seems pointless.
So if we remove all the ports and remakes, and exclude everything for 2022 / TBA, we have: Game Builder Garage - 11th June, 2021 Mario Golf: Super Rush - 25th June, 2021 So we'll have to see what gets announced at E3, I'm gonna hope against hope for BoTW2!
No, actually. I got physical more than I usually do last year. I only got 1 switch game last year, that being Age Of Calamity. And I wanted it physical so...
I didn't think they'd do a physical release, nice! Also, 10 gigabytes? I assume most of the space is from the assets and sound effects, but still! We may have hope for a great game maker here!
An expanded labo garage? Count me in! I did really enjoy making a few things in the vr garage, but stopped because of the limitations. Seeing that you can make your own graphics is wonderful, and honestly a necessity. I'll have to see what people can make before I buy it though. It may still have the annoying limit on objects and logic sadly.
I do want to get this still, but used of course. I won't be giving TPC anymore money until they respect their customers again. And the game is very short too, so I won't pay more than $20.
They should! The Pokemon games alone would be a great addition, especially if you could transfer them to home directly. Mario Land 1 and 2 would be wonderful, and the Zelda games too! It wouldn't really be too marketable unless they added gba support as well, but I think they should do one at least! I can dream. Or emulate on my 3ds. If I ever figure out how to do that.
I hope we find out why the switch has been in the background of videos soon, I'm curious at this point. Also I like the story of no one picking up the 30 bottles of wine and them drinking it all. Seems like a good day for them.
I downloaded mine, and I live in the US, so I should be safe. Sucks for anyone affected though. I assume this is a hardware issue? (The cartridge's hardware, that is.) Because that's the only way I could see cartridges breaking at different times. Its also possible that it dies depending on your system's internal clock, so anyone with the problem may want to try time traveling back a few years. Just some thoughts.
I really want a Zelda set, but if one was announced I still wouldn't buy it. Lego sets are too expensive for me. Especially when I could spend less money on a videogame that would last me weeks.
Why doesn't TPC just, you know, put toys in there for kids to play with? It would solve a lot of problems. But if nothing else they could put common cards so that there's little to no incentive to open the boxes without paying.
@thinkhector Don't worry, I know it isn't bad. Just that for some people it wouldn't make sense to them. I saw a video of a guy explaining how brilliant it is. And if you had to be there the whole time, then I would call it bad. It definitely has people that would enjoy it, which is why it's unfortunate that so many people call it a videogame, making people just call it bad. I know I personally wouldn't enjoy it, because the way I play most games is by sitting down for hours at a time until I feel done with it. And well I'm not really interested in it. Glad that you enjoy it though!
@thinkhector Something else of note is that many of these experiences people would call 'casual games,' myself included, however experiences like The Longing are not casual at all. (At least I don't think so) It would be hard for some people to invest such a large amount of time in it, unless they really want to enjoy the experience. But I'd agree that we should put them into the same category of experience. (But just like videogames there should be genres as well.)
Gaming is a fast growing medium, apparently it's even the most popular way of entertainment in America. As such, similar mediums should be given room to grow, instead of being looped together and ultimately both getting hurt in the process.
@thinkhector I am moreso arguing that The Longing isn't a game, and that because we categorize it as such, we hurt it and experiences like it. As for games that aren't fun, say Sunshine, it was intended to be fun, they just messed up somewhere along the way. Should it still be considered a game? Yes, just a bad one.
From what I've seen from The Longing, (outside of this review) it seems to be a great and unique experience, which is what it was trying to do. Calling it a videogame, in my opinion, is a disservice to both it, and consumers.
(Of course if you want to hear more just read my message to BulbasaurusRex)
@BulbasaurusRex The problem I have is that the spectrum for what qualifies as a game is far too broad for everyone to know, 'hey if I buy this I'll have a fun time!' (Ignoring shovelware of course.) In reality the entire industry calls any interactive software that isn't for work or something a 'game'. It's pretty strange. But that's specifically looking at video games, which is the medium that's messed up categorizing things.
So I'll look to board games. (This encompasses card games too) What makes a board game popular? Generally, its because its fun. (And easy to learn, but that can be ignored here) But things don't have to be fun to be good.
So look at tabletop games. (Aka DnD) I wouldn't necessarily call them fun, but they are very creative, both on design, and playing parts. They offer a unique experience that both video games and board games can't itch, thus proving their worth.
See where I'm going here? Board and tabletop games, while similar on the outside, are completely different to someone playing them. It would be insane to have a board game reviewer review a tabletop game. They wouldn't be able to score it properly! They may like it, but it still isn't their job to do things like that.
So I believe that The Longing has merit, probably a lot, in fact. The only thing holding it back is people calling it a game. And it's a unique experience, one that many love, but if you can't give it a score like you can other video games, is it really a video game? No, no it isn't, and anyone going into it expecting it to be like one, may very well get disappointed.
(Side note, when walking simulators first came out, that was a perfect time to make a distinction between videogames and other software, {which is a completely different medium} but we didn't, and instead just insulted the experience. Because we did that we now have to live with the term walking simulator, with the experiences clouding our digital storefronts)
@AndyC_MK I believe you are correct, it did sound like that. It would also explain why he comments everything else on this site. A search for meaning... Humanity needs meaning. Otherwise its easy to end up like this poor fellow. I'm just glad my search ended a few years ago.
