@AlexanderDaniels They mean that you cannot have the same item twice. For example, you cannot have two Pikachus in your team but you can have a Pikachu and a Raichu. In addition, you cannot have two life orbs, but you can have a life orb and a leftovers.
@JugOfVoodoo I can understand some confusion. I've been looking across multiple years since Dex it was announced. I seriously hope gamefreak does not have another game ready to go. Because the quality of this game was so lacking I really expect them to either buckle down and make a proper game or they're just going to implode as a company I feel.
@JugOfVoodoo I am guessing that you missed the entire second half of my comment that specifically deals with the fact that the entire National dex is normally released after a full year? The fact that there is going to be no alterations to the available Pokemon, especially as there are no legendaries from previous gens in the galar dex, means that there's only ever going to be Gigantamax added and therefore a very dull changing scene.
I can't wait for all the professionals to be upset about these rules. Galar only means that Dexit also affects the competitive scene permanently. And based on these current rules, the only shake-up is going to be new Gigantamax. That is a huge difference then just having Pokemon from the current game and then allowing all Pokemon about a year later.
@TeslaChippie Two problems with your little statement there. First, there is no major reason why anyone should expect Exquisite results of quality from this game, both because of what was formally announced and shown off from this game and what was lied about from this game. Second, I do hope you are not including people, such as myself, who who went out of our ways to search for multiple different reviews for information, made an independent decision, and/or seeked out full gameplay, and then finally determined that this dung heap of a game is not for us.
This looks amazing, especially while I'm looking for a new Switch case because my special edition Zelda case had a zipper malfunction. I don't know if I'm willing to give $70 for thisoh, but it has pretty much everything I would be looking for otherwise. Thank you NintendoLife, I will keep this in my mind, however I do think that's at least $30 over priced.
It is good to hear Panic Button getting more praise. I haven't partaken in any of the games personally, but I'm ever hopeful one day they will port a game that I am actually interested in. Their work already seems top-notch and I would love to see their efforts sometime.
@AlternateButtons
If you are taking the time to look at my data, you would notice that I actually accounted for a bias of people in that vote. But with approximately two thousand votes, I counted for a full 10% of bias, or an additional 200 votes in favor of drift occurring. I also have a degree in electro-mechanics, such as how to utilize putting together game controllers. But obviously you know so much more about this problem than I do... Perhaps you should recommend Nintendo to utilize you as a resource in their upcoming Court battle. I personally feel that this court case might be taking things a little too far, as with time anything wears out, but that's not for me to determine but rather a court judge.
@Silly_G The drift occurs from utilizing to Joy con controllers. And from whichever fashion of play you're using them. If you use the control sticks on the joycon, you are also actively wearing the joycons' control sticks down to eventually lead to this problem.
@AlternateButtons
To be honest oh, I'm getting really sick of people who are assuming others are causing their own problems. If you were to look at even the most recent poll conducted by this very site, https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2019/07/poll_have_your_joy-con_been_drifting , you would find 50% of nearly two thousand votes at this moment saying that the drift occurs "all the time" with an additional "occasional drift" for another five hundred survey participants. Well this did it is slightly skewed by the point that the poll would be more appealing to those who have the drift already, based off this poll alone I would Hazard a guess of at least 40% of Nintendo life viewers having this problem current on a daily basis, with an additional 20 to 30% occurring at least once a week or more.
But let's disregard the facts because obviously the entire world is full of people who don't know how to take care of Technology. Especially because this particular problem has never occurred to YOU, and therefore perfectly proves that no one else is having problems with Factory error.
I am sorry for being a bit grumpy on this, but accusing the users, for what is obviously a design flaw, is certainly something that would get a lot of people angry.
Edit: to further expand on the lack of your knowledge over this issue, drift is not caused from dust getting into the joy con. This is a direct problem from the methods the joycon uses to determine the exact positioning of the control stick. That piece of technology utilizes weak graphite housings and scratch pad, which then breaks down with use and therefore fills up the control stick with particles causing false readings.
Good to know that commenters are downvoting anybody that mentions the big problem with sword and shield. Instead of pointing out that at least 12 more Pokemon will be available in game, it's full of people pledging to buy two copies of the game so they can have access to the "exclusive content" in each one.
@Minfinity (Comment #45) Again, "random" enemies as you suggest are Symbol Encounters. Part of my major focus in promoting Random Encounters is removing the option of opting out of battle. Already a majority of Gamers seek to avoid those battles and cause themselves to be underleveled for major points in the story.
@HammerKirby (Comment #37)
The core difference between Random Encounters and Visible and/or Symbol Encounters are the elective opt-in or mandatory participation. When Random battles happen, I know that it is completely impossible to prevent and therefore it isn't a fault of mine. When it is a Visible or Symbol Encounter, I personally feel like I am not playing the game efficiently and get additional stress over that. Or, I under-"grind" and therefore don't prepare myself for the next upcoming challenges. Which then forces me to actively grind, making me feel as if that time is wasted because I avoided battles I should have been taking. This also can have implications of times where the game isn't balanced correctly, and ends up forcing more battles than expected, making the players feel that the battles are forced, taking away their option anyway and causing the players to resent the game and/or the developer. All in all, I just prefer Random Encounters because of these reasons.
@Minfinity There are no Random Encounters. You should prove otherwise. There are visible encounters and there are symbol encounters but no Random Encounters.
The biggest thing they lost me on was the removal of random encounters. They shouldn't have teased it in the introduction trailer if they had no intentions of there being any random battles at all. I think I am done ever playing core Pokemon games until they revert to Random Encounters, although I think this is a permanent addition so I will never be playing another main line again.
@graysoncharles I understand your point with that, but painting a broad stroke of Game Freak games vs non-GF games does a disservice over-all. We are talking about the same company insisting that lets go is a Main game. We thought it was them with their head in the sand, as the catch mechanics and wild battle mechanics are completely different, but apparently they changed the entire main game system to be let's go now.
It just frustrating full-circle but I don't want to have people assuming more things for Game freak to screw up.
@graysoncharles I disagree with your statement that game freak alone can make core games. If that is the case, we should no longer consider Zelda Oracle of Seasons, Zelda Oracle of Ages, or Zelda the Minish Cap as core Zelda games. I would say those are definitely more core then games like Link's crossbow training.
@Ulysses I do agree that Random Encounters were a necessity of Legacy Hardwares. However RPGs were designed in that Legacy time. The major aspect to take from my point here is that RPGs have existed even prior to computers, which means that we have actually drastically changed a genre of gaming that has existed for well over 50 years minimum. There are three aspects of RPGs that have changed since video games took over, which in my opinion has caused RPGs to be made "easier". Those three concepts are visible encounters, the ability to save anywhere, and the ability to hold on to as many items as you wish.
For Random Encounters versus Visible Encounters, visible encounters encourage players to not have as much battle as they used to, and then psychologically encourages people to avoid battle as well. For those that just dislike the battling, they avoid them by default. Now instead of encountering and defeating approximately 30 zubats through Mt.Moon, these players may only encounter and defeat two or three. The psychological ramifications of visible encounters causes players to believe that if they encounter a battleoh, it is actually their fault instead of it being an inevitable occurrence. So called "they failed" to avoid the encounter. A perfect example of how this is a failure of game design is Dragon Quest 7. The original game on PlayStation had Random Encounters, the Remake on 3DS had visible encounters. Because the devs never adjusted the dungeon layouts, you could actually have 9 or 10 visible Encounters in an area that you would normally get one random encounter. This is an extreme in the opposite direction then my statements, however this just details how visible encounters are not currently balanced in video games. (DQ7's issue here was that the visible encounters would spot you and run into you faster than you are able to get through the corridor).
My second opinion is the ability to save anywhere. This has developed through necessity of "pickup put-down" gameplay. The necessity to be able to dip in and dip out of a video game at your convenience. RPGs however have very limited ways to prevent save scumming and therefore cause the greatest amount of difficulty breaking from the ability to save anywhere you want. An example I can give for Pokemon is that the moment you walk in front of a legendary and Save, that legendary is now guaranteed to be yours if you're willing to continue battling until you catch it. It sounds like a very benign thing, but it is an absolute 100% chance you will get the Pokemon you want, so long as you save scum. Part of the Nuzlocke challenge was developed to prevent save scumming through these very options.
The third option I feel is a failure RPGs is the infinite inventory system currently accepted. When I played Pokemon Blue, I overextended myself in the Elite Four. I was power training (aka Switch Training) 5 pokemon using my level 96 Charizard. Lorelei got a lucky freeze on my Charizard and I was completely helpless to stop her from winning the entire battle. The reason for this is that I did not prepare myself to have a frozen Pokemon. While that sounds like a very simple thing in today's inventory system, in the original generation of Pokemon there were very few items that healed freeze. In the more recent games alone, if I had gone through the exact same situation I would have easily had 30+ freeze heal items in my bag, which is directly opposed to generation one where I had to remove them to make more inventory space.
A combination of all three of these concepts allows for people to not plan their adventure in advance, dodge encounters that are too difficult for them, and then save scum their way through the game, or save scum back through the dungeon to heal, when they should be adequately punished for overextending themselves. I am not suggesting larger punishments than are already known, but the ability to save scum and the ability to never plan in advance has caused RPG gamers to become lazy on the Tactical front.
@Ulysses As I stated before, they're not Random Encounters at all. They are symbol encounters. What you refer to as "voluntary". This actually makes the games themselves weaker over time as well. I'm not going to get into the long Dramatics of the differencesoh, it would end up taking up possibly an hour of my time just the type it all out. Regardless, it can be summarized as: I feel symbol encounters and visible encounters damage the core values of an RPG in general and contribute towards those games being dumbed down and made easier for all participants.
@Ulysses
Unfortunately, those are not Random Encounters. Those are symbol encounters where you have to select to battle after you see an audio or video cue. They've already spoken about Random Encounters not being available in the game even in the non-wild area routes. That is the chief reason why I have decided to not buy this game.
@westman98
It has been confirmed that every area of the game has no Random Encounters at all. The closest we get is the ! in the grass, which is technically a Symbol Encounter because you have the ability to refuse to battle. Similar to how fishing works in the game, you can fish but you cannot guarantee a specific Pokemon.
I have completely given up on new Pokemon games. Sun and moon disappointed me, Ultra Sun Ultra Moon I never even thought about buying, and this is just raw garbage. I do hate the fact that so many fans are ignoring the fact game freak lied to us during Let's Go. When I complained, and others complained, about Visible Encounters in the Let's Go series, we were directly told that is for Let's Go and that the core game would return in 2019. They even made the first trailer for sword and shield appear to have Random Encounters before proving they lied to us about that during E3.
I honestly don't see why anybody should be happy with these games, but unfortunately that's not going to stop moms and aunts and grandmothers from buying them once Xmas comes. This thing is too big and has now reached Bethesda level of inadequacy providing a paycheck for the company.
I have completely turned my back on the series. If this is actually affecting anybody else I would recommend the same. Because continuing to come back just in the hopes that they return to what you would like, that sounds like an abusive relationship to me.
@PikaPlayz Sorry oh, but you're going to have to prove what your saying. It's already been mentioned multiple times that there are no longer Random Encounters. If you feel I'm wrong with this information you need to provide proof. And as I stated above oh, if you are referring to the exclamation mark in the grass, that is a symbol encounter not a random encounter. Which makes it an elective encounter, you merely walk in a different direction to ignore it.
@KawaiiKitsune13 Those are actually not random encounters. If you are referring to the encounters you can see oh, they are only referred to as visible encounters. If you're talkin about the exclamation marks in the grass, those are elective encounters so they would really be more like symbol Encounters. Neither of these options coerce unsolicited Random Encounters, and therefore do not work for the function of an RPG effectively.
Sad to say that I was one of those numbers that pre-ordered during E3. But I have since canceled that pre-order. And not for the reason that people are thinking initially, I canceled it because of GameFreak's bait-and-switch with their trailer. When I pre-ordered it, I thought that Random Encounters were still in the game. Finding out that such a crucial aspect of RPGs has been stripped out of the game has effectively made me lose all interest of ever buying a Pokemon game ever again. They want the hype up such a stupid action because people don't want to "grind" and now the same people are saying that Pikachu and Eevee are some of the hardest Pokemon games ever created... I wonder why.
I have to disagree with a point in this article. EA is the undisputable worst company in America for me. And the only competition EA has are the telecommunication companies.
As somebody who never imported prior oh, I have already had to import 2 games this year. The first game was World of Final Fantasy because Square Enix didn't want to give us a physical copy in the US. The second was the very next Square Enix game I bought, Chocobo dungeon. If Square Enix wants to continue making me truck their product Halfway Around the world they're going to realize very quickly I don't buy as many games. I bought Octopath day one, I still have not bought Lost SPHEAR.
I mean, I certainly would like to have those amiibo personally. But I doubt they would be sold for less than a hundred and I don't have that type of money right now.
They certainly look amazing. I guess I should check out this person, see what else they have done.
@NintendoFan4Lyf there is no fight to "win" here. People are just allowing it to happen over and over again, but that will slowly begin to change when you have more and more Devs or Publishers taking advantage of customers. Piss off the wrong Nintendo representative when you feel they did something wrong and they could fly your account to be deleted in a moment. Just flag your account as a hacker and almost nobody will look at it I'm sure. Already people are quick to judge against Homebrew, and there is nothing illegal about that at all. If Nintendo flagged your account and said that you were illegally modifying, you lose all of your digital games. But physical you still own. I'm waiting for Bethesda or EA to do something like this and get people to wake up.
@Sunsy and I have no problem with digital copies I just have a problem if I'm going to get that digital copy because I will not own it. I'm always for having more options, however allowing a company to have the power to legally strip me of any game I buy at any moment is not palatable. There should always be a physical copy made if at all possible, even at a higher price. There should always be as much of the game possible on the physical card as well. $10 or $15 extra is not completely unreasonable if it gets you the full game.
@NintendoFan4Lyf the problem is I'm more worried about having the right to play the game I bought. At any moment, any company including Nintendo has the ability to brick any one person's console. They can also brick one entire game from all consoles. Physical versions prevent that legally. And the upsetting thing is the only version that allows you that legal protection is the physical version. My problem is them cheaping out on a physical version. I shouldn't have to have 80% of it digital. That is the company literally cheaping out on the game and simultaneously erode away end user legal rights.
@NintendoFan4Lyf when it comes to a physical version, I would rather have a complete game at a higher price. This is baffling that Gamers have put on blinders to how disrespectful this is. And then we have people like @Tendogamerxxx who call us "backwards OCD people" when we either can't download because we have caps on our data, or we legitimately want legal rights to own our games.
Absolutely glad to hear about this physical game prior to the digital release. Anytime prior to that and it's not a concern to me, but after the digital game is released is unacceptable in my eyes.
@adh56 this comment is not to insult in any way, but why would you pre-order a digital game? The only time I could see pre-ordering a digital game is if it came with some type of bonus like how Nintendo doubles or triples their gold coins sometimes. But even that's not enough for me to justify pre-ordering digital content when I could just get the game after it comes out. Then again, I worry about a pre-release announcement such as physical releases so perhaps I'm a little more focused on knowing exactly what I get prior to purchase.
This sounds great. I didn't even realize they were still working with Witch & Hero. Absolutely wonderful game and the sequel was just as good. I actually remember being one of those vocal voices on the review.
Honestly I'm just happy the kid was playing a famicom. Nowadays kids are so focus on the newest technology that I see them talking trash about the Gameboy and I grew up with that. I still find value in these older consoles so to see them even being referenced for kids is positive in my book.
I honestly don't know what people are expecting when they demand things like movies and then they expect them exactly how they Envision when their envisionment is not realistic. Overall this is a completely realistic design and I can't find a reason to fault them.
I will say that the final image in the article, the one that apparently is the "leaked" image, it does look a little bit unrefined. But if I look at the first two images in this article oh, they seem to be under the same concept and they look fine to me.
@RupeeClock Ah, thanks for the reply. I remembered seeing "Has Been Heroes" available at my local GameStop for only $20 so I was confused, but for specialty companies like Limited Run or Super Rare Games, I know they tend to have special conditions, although I'm not specifically certain what they are. I knew about the batch order requirement, aside the 10,000 batch for Xbox one I did not know about, but a minimum pricing is new to me.
@RupeeClock Are you able to say where your source is saying that Nintendo requires a minimum of 30 US dollars? I know that I have personally seen games come out of $20 physical so I would like to see your source to compare.
@ilikeike You are correct. It was added to the list back when it came out on launch day and it just keeps getting updated till the end of the year every year. I've been keeping a close eye on it myself.

Re: Is Game Freak "Recycling" 3DS Animations In Pokémon Sword And Shield On Switch?
@Ulysses
As I stated before, they're not Random Encounters at all.
Re: Is Game Freak "Recycling" 3DS Animations In Pokémon Sword And Shield On Switch?
@Ulysses
Unfortunately, those are not Random Encounters. Those are symbol encounters where you have to select to battle after you see an audio or video cue. They've already spoken about Random Encounters not being available in the game even in the non-wild area routes. That is the chief reason why I have decided to not buy this game.
Edit: I figured leaving a link showing some proof of my statement would help. https://www.gamespot.com/articles/e3-pokemon-sword-and-shield-dont-have-random-encou/1100-6467394/
Re: Is Game Freak "Recycling" 3DS Animations In Pokémon Sword And Shield On Switch?
@westman98

Re: Is Game Freak "Recycling" 3DS Animations In Pokémon Sword And Shield On Switch?
Re: Every Single Legend Of Zelda amiibo Is Back On Nintendo's Official UK Store
@NOOGA
My exact problem as well. Both those amiibo are the ones I missing and, of course, UK Nintendo never ships out of UK.
Re: Pokémon Was The Second Most Pre-Ordered Title At GameStop During E3
@PikaPlayz
Sorry oh, but you're going to have to prove what your saying.
Re: Pokémon Was The Second Most Pre-Ordered Title At GameStop During E3
@KawaiiKitsune13
Those are actually not random encounters.
Re: Pokémon Was The Second Most Pre-Ordered Title At GameStop During E3
Re: Soapbox: EA’s Approach To FIFA On Switch Is Typically Short-Sighted
I have to disagree with a point in this article. EA is the undisputable worst company in America for me. And the only competition EA has are the telecommunication companies.
Re: Pokémon Direct For Sword And Shield Taking Place Next Week
I fully expected something about Pokemon before E3. Now I just hope I'm off of work at that time so I can watch it live.
Re: Square Enix's Oninaki Might Not Receive A Physical Release Here In The West
As somebody who never imported prior oh, I have already had to import 2 games this year. The first game was World of Final Fantasy because Square Enix didn't want to give us a physical copy in the US. The second was the very next Square Enix game I bought, Chocobo dungeon. If Square Enix wants to continue making me truck their product Halfway Around the world they're going to realize very quickly I don't buy as many games.
I bought Octopath day one, I still have not bought Lost SPHEAR.
Re: Nintendo Newsletter Suggests Cadence Of Hyrule Will Be Released This Month
I can't wait. I already put $20 aside to get it as soon as I can.
Re: Random: Reggie's Most Touching Retirement Gift Was A Custom-Made Satoru Iwata amiibo
I mean, I certainly would like to have those amiibo personally. But I doubt they would be sold for less than a hundred and I don't have that type of money right now.
They certainly look amazing. I guess I should check out this person, see what else they have done.
Re: Random: Switch Box Art Download Warning Receives A Makeover
Re: Random: Switch Box Art Download Warning Receives A Makeover
@Sunsy and I have no problem with digital copies I just have a problem if I'm going to get that digital copy because I will not own it. I'm always for having more options, however allowing a company to have the power to legally strip me of any game I buy at any moment is not palatable.
There should always be a physical copy made if at all possible, even at a higher price. There should always be as much of the game possible on the physical card as well. $10 or $15 extra is not completely unreasonable if it gets you the full game.
Re: Random: Switch Box Art Download Warning Receives A Makeover
@NintendoFan4Lyf the problem is I'm more worried about having the right to play the game I bought. At any moment, any company including Nintendo has the ability to brick any one person's console. They can also brick one entire game from all consoles. Physical versions prevent that legally.
And the upsetting thing is the only version that allows you that legal protection is the physical version. My problem is them cheaping out on a physical version. I shouldn't have to have 80% of it digital. That is the company literally cheaping out on the game and simultaneously erode away end user legal rights.
Re: Random: Switch Box Art Download Warning Receives A Makeover
@NintendoFan4Lyf when it comes to a physical version, I would rather have a complete game at a higher price. This is baffling that Gamers have put on blinders to how disrespectful this is. And then we have people like @Tendogamerxxx who call us "backwards OCD people" when we either can't download because we have caps on our data, or we legitimately want legal rights to own our games.
Re: The Best Video Game April Fools' Day Gags Of 2019
Thanks for making this list. I always liked having quick access to multiple April Fool's jokes and they get taken down so quickly.
Re: Security Researcher Avoids Prison After Hacking Into Nintendo's Network
@Majora101
This guy already caused about $2000000 damage to Microsoft and about a million damage to Nintendo. Why would they want to hire him?
Re: SteamWorld Quest Physical Edition Expected To Arrive This Year
Absolutely glad to hear about this physical game prior to the digital release.
Re: 8-Bit Style Action Game Witch & Hero Gets An Enhanced Release On Switch
This sounds great. I didn't even realize they were still working with Witch & Hero. Absolutely wonderful game and the sequel was just as good. I actually remember being one of those vocal voices on the review.
Re: Random: Child Holding Famicom Controller The Wrong Way Causes Outrage Online In Japan
Honestly I'm just happy the kid was playing a famicom. Nowadays kids are so focus on the newest technology that I see them talking trash about the Gameboy and I grew up with that. I still find value in these older consoles so to see them even being referenced for kids is positive in my book.
Re: This Is What Sonic The Hedgehog Probably Looks Like In His Upcoming Movie
I'm just here for all the people complaining.
Re: Fairune Collection Receiving A Super Rare Physical Release On Switch This Month
@RupeeClock
Ah, thanks for the reply.
Re: Fairune Collection Receiving A Super Rare Physical Release On Switch This Month
@RupeeClock
Are you able to say where your source is saying that Nintendo requires a minimum of 30 US dollars?
I know that I have personally seen games come out of $20 physical so I would like to see your source to compare.
Re: GameStop Lists Wolfenstein: Youngblood And Dragon Quest Heroes 1 & 2 For Switch
@ilikeike
You are correct. It was added to the list back when it came out on launch day and it just keeps getting updated till the end of the year every year. I've been keeping a close eye on it myself.
