Re: Kirby And The Forgotten Land Codes: Full List Of Kirby Codes

LordGeovanni

It hasn't been mentioned yet, but I forgot what the reward was...
GAMESTOPCAN was apparently given out to GameStop purchasers in Canada in order to get an extra code. I was able to use it as a US resident. Allegedly, this code expires on April 25th and gives 150 Star Coins and a Maxim Tomato.

There is also THANKYOUKIRBY (in addition to the METAKNIGHT one). Gives 1,000 Star Coins and a Rare Stone.

@rjejr is corret as well, GAMENEWS and KIRBYNEWSDESK are valid codes.

@Sarkos The only things given that are currently particularly noteworthy are the Rare Stones. There are Challenges ingame to obtain them, but they are used for something rather important so getting them early/easier would be valuable. It doesn't appear like any code with the Rare Stones has an experation time. Don't know if that will ever change, either.

Re: PSA: Please Don't Forget To Transfer Your Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island To Your Switch OLED

LordGeovanni

@huyi
I feel like that is a different topic entirely.
Yes, it is similar, however the GameCube had incredibly limited access to transfer data to other systems. The Wii had more access of internet, however having an initial problem with save transfer is understandable. I do get your point in suggesting that Nintendo hasn't changed, however I never expected that to change and I would honestly think others who have been playing Nintendo games since the GameCube or earlier would have the expectation that Nintendo would screw this up still.
My comment and concern is solely on the point that this is exactly the issue that was brought up when Nintendo added this roundabout "answer" to the issue of transfer after they refused to allow the Cloud saves in the first place.

Re: Hidden Sales Data Of Graded NES Games Released To Combat Artificial Inflation And "Record-Breaking" Auctions

LordGeovanni

I was honestly going to submit Karl's video to Nintendo Life. These idiots have to be brought before the FTC again. I would expect the FTC findings banning them from operating in Coin markets should also apply to other markets such as video games 40 years later. The reason why they're being so successful... At this moment in time, they are targeting something that is just slightly outside of what they've previously been smacked with and as well they waited enough years that the people they ended up scamming have had 30+ years to forget about it.

Re: What Do You Want To See From The Dragon Quest Series In The Future? Square Enix Wants To Know

LordGeovanni

I always love giving my opinion, and I really love the dragon quest series...

I just have absolutely no belief whatsoever that square enix is going to listen to somebody outside of Japan, especially when it concerns the dragon quest series, when they ritualistically ignore the outside world. Even more so, their ridiculous expectations of profit always makes them say that any dragon quest localized is a profit failure. This is the only traditional RPG that has stuck to its guns over the last 35 years and square enix is already pushing to change it into an action RPG like they did final fantasy.

There is absolutely no reason for me to believe they will ever consider what I want. Because after all, old guys over in Japan knows exactly what the consumers in North America want to purchase.

Re: Dragon Quest XII Could Shape The Next "10 To 20 Years" Of The Series

LordGeovanni

So it sounds like they're preparing fans to completely understand why they want to cut off all traditional RPG elements. I wish square enix would stop trying to "innovate" and just make the game styles that we enjoy. The reason why dragon quest 11 has done so well is because so many RPG series have turned their back on traditional methods. Now that dragon quest is finally getting some proper recognition in the West, square enix wants to ruin yet another series.

Re: Dragon Quest X Is Being Transformed Into A "Cute" Offline Game

LordGeovanni

@COVIDberry
That doesnt need to be proven for DQXI S, it needs to be evaluated against all DQ sales. Even if you look at only "recent" sales of 5 or 10 years, I am easily able to believe that claim.

@Wilforce
The problem is, my positivity was killed alongside most of Enix when the merger happened back in 2003. Like when it takes huge petitions to get a DQ game localized while Final Fantasy cant help but plan for localization to happen before the game is even done being sketched out.

Re: Dragon Quest X Is Being Transformed Into A "Cute" Offline Game

LordGeovanni

@Wilforce
Again that isnt proof. I can understand why you would think it is, it is very decisive towards proving the intention is linked to the action, but it doesn't confirm it. The current motivation could be merely to make an Offline version because of complaints in Japan that they keep losing internet connection on devices like the Switch. It could also be motivated because of the high cost to participate in the MMO. From the little bit of "google research" I did, I found that the game has a $50 price to buy it as well as a $12/month price for the membership. That is certainly something that would give me cause to avoid, even if it was in NA. But could that not also be true for a person in Japan? Perhaps they want to expand the sales of it within Japan alone.

Again, I am not saying that you are wrong. I am saying that evidence points towards them possibly localizing it, but I still do not trust SE. They have broken promises in the past and this isn't even a "promise". These are breadcrumbs that we are hoping lead us home but it could be SE throwing their garbage on the ground and then wondering why we are grabbing garbage off the ground.

I say wait for them to actually confirm something. Ask, petition, demand. But do not assume, cause they burn the non-Japan fans more often than a forest fire.

Re: Dragon Quest X Is Being Transformed Into A "Cute" Offline Game

LordGeovanni

@Wilforce
Personally I find it "further support" that SE doesnt know what they are doing.
I understand that people want to believe it can come, and I am not saying I would be upset if it did come (I would be just as ecstatic), but I also have watched SE fail to tie their shoelaces for 20 years.
This isnt "they didnt say no so that means it could be yes", this is more like "They put a stop sign on DQX Online talks because people kept going down that road, but they didnt put it on DQX Offline because they know there is a massive cliff around the corner." And when you ask why they dont put a Stop Sign, it would be because they think it is "obvious" that it isnt happening, while you and I and everyone else is trying to drive at night in a heavy fog. They set us up for disappointment, and themselves up for failure.

This is why I hold reservation. Not because I think the game can't come, but because I know SE is too incompetent to see why we get confused.

Re: Dragon Quest X Is Being Transformed Into A "Cute" Offline Game

LordGeovanni

@Wilforce
That disclaimer was added during the Dev talking, so people are speculating that it was added by whoever was in charge of the English stream using an overlay due to how the English Stream Chat was exploding in happiness over the DQX "finally" being localized. So it is likely that the message wasnt intended to be placed originally.

Re: Dragon Quest X Is Being Transformed Into A "Cute" Offline Game

LordGeovanni

@Ludovsky
While I am not saying they have no ability to later determine to release it outside Japan, I am saying simply that I do not trust them to. With Nintendo having to localize not only the DS remake of DQ6, but also do ALL the localization and advertisement work for DQ9 when it launched, I simply do not trust that SE knows how to market DQ in areas outside Japan.
This was further proven when they remade DQ7 and released it in Japan before going completely silent until DQ8 was announced, where DQ7 NEVER had any talk of localization happen. Even AFTER DQ8's release there was almost nothing to suggest they were going to localize until they decided to DMCA a fantranslation of DQ7.

I will say this, I do believe that a release of DQX will work outside Japan. I also believe that SE will screw it up somehow. I believe that SE thinks it will not sell and potentially an Offline version might sell better. But I also think that there is **no reason** to remake the game's graphics and all, just for Offline. This is looking like they want to make Offline into a mobile title, certainly not something for consoles... but here is the issue: it is already planned for phones. The Online version at that.

I am just tired of SE making stupid choices and not listening. At this point EA sounds like it listens more often. Not that it actually uses what it heard, but at least they listen.

Re: Spiritfarer Has A Beautiful Physical Edition Heading To Switch

LordGeovanni

Friend of mine told me about this game and I was looking into it myself.

Only sad part that I see is I'm going to need to find out if I can find a retailer that will stock this. Tried to get the special edition Ori and they ended up massively screwing up my order. Iam8bit was supposed to have sent it before the end of November, instead all of my friends had physical copies they purchased at Walmart or GameStop because apparently they weren't physical exclusives for the special edition that I purchased, nor were they pre-order physical only through Iam8bit. I thought that at least I would be getting two soundtrack downloads and to physical games, but then I found out you got a copy of the digital soundtrack for purchasing any physical copy of the game. They were making me wait at least 3 months late to charge me 180 USD for something I was able to purchase at Walmart for 66 bucks.
So yeah, I don't trust them.

Re: Dragon Quest X Is Being Transformed Into A "Cute" Offline Game

LordGeovanni

@BTB20
Sounds like you think they are in a Catch22 then. Cause if they don't push DQ games outside of Japan how are they suppose to catch on? This is literally the best time to push after how well DQXI did, especially with how explosive the DQXI-S did on Switch. For them to have, as you say, 5~10% of their fans get another tease of DQX localization followed by not even confirming the Offline DQX, it certainly feels like they just plain don't care. It is dismissive and demeaning to their fans.

Re: Dragon Quest X Is Being Transformed Into A "Cute" Offline Game

LordGeovanni

@kupocake
The announcement (for the stream) also said half the show was for "Japanese audience only" and there were already three of the six games confirmed for outside Japan, the trailer was exclusively in Japanese, and SE has pulled this kind of "not saying it means you can hope" too many times with the DQ fans.

For example, DQ7's 3DS remake was fully made and released in Japan, they then started, finished, and released the DQ8 remake before trying to think about localizing DQ8 and Nintendo, as well as SE Shareholders, had to ask why DQ7 wasnt localized before they bothered to localize it.

At this point, SE needs to flat out say they are doing something before most of us believe them with even 70% confidence.

EDIT: It also certainly doesn't help that the message for DQX not being localized was only a single English line dropped onto the trailers and after a big portion of the entire segment for DQX Online was already shown off. As they actively had issues with the titlecard during the stream (which got updated 20 minutes into the 30 minute wait for it to start, it had the wrong time you see) it is thought that the stream chat (going crazy that we are finally getting it) might have had moderators realize people were misunderstanding the "Still not being localized" part of the DQX Online trailer and quickly request someone post that on top of the trailer as a way to clarify.

Re: Dragon Quest X Is Being Transformed Into A "Cute" Offline Game

LordGeovanni

The entire stream was such a mess. SE really screwed up on this.
Apparently that "half hour of Japanese-only stream" was them not communicating correctly. It was suppose to be "Half the half-hour stream will be Japanese-only content".
If we go off the 6 games alone, we had them confirm we are getting DQ3 HD-2D, the DQTreasures, and DQXII. So we might not even be getting this Offline DQX.
Combine that with the Online getting teased AGAIN and then the merch they show off before telling us "Japan-only, no export" and they really have to get their heads out of their own rears.

Re: Where To Pre-Order The Zelda: Skyward Sword Zelda Loftwing amiibo

LordGeovanni

Unfortunately this article is about 3 days too late for everyone in the US.

There are rumors that Best buy and GameStop are releasing pre-orders slowly at the top of the hour, however there is absolutely nothing to confirm this. All four of these companies have already released some pre-orders with Amazon and Target confirming they have all pre-orders already allocated.

Re: Talking Point: Is Zelda An RPG, Or Not?

LordGeovanni

@everynowandben
I see that you will try and nickel and dimed any argument into either being yours or wrong. Zota follows macro genre RPG processes. It is merely that it does not follow micro RPG processes which involves the mechanics you are fixated on.

This is abundantly clear when you recognize that action adventure games are always Macro RPG as the directly require the exact requirements of macro RPG already. Other action adventure games would include Skyrim, Mass effect, and fallout. They can still have properties of micro genre RPG oh, but I am fairly certain a good amount of people would also call them action adventure. Does not matter in regards to macro genre oh, they're all RPG.

Re: Talking Point: Is Zelda An RPG, Or Not?

LordGeovanni

@everynowandben
I would say that defeating a boss for a heart upgrade is most certainly based on a challenge. I would also say most heart containers are specifically locked behind some logic and skill to obtain. With this oh, I have to say that I disagree with your assessment.

@BloodNinja
I have been feeling that the RPG genre has been getting eroded overtime and I strived for a way to accurately explain what is RPG. Over the last decade I have narrow down my concept into my previous post. It is simple, RPG cannot solely be a micro nor a macro genre. It has to be both. And if it is both, it is simply better to have two genres of RPG.

Re: Talking Point: Is Zelda An RPG, Or Not?

LordGeovanni

I see that people are unaware of how genre work again. I will try to explain.

First, genre are merely a method of explaining mechanics in a work. Art, Literature, Movies, Animations, Games. All are different "Forms of artistic work". And as such can be defined. Those definitions are genre.

Genre are also broken up into Macro-Genre and Micro-Genre (Following forward, MaG and MiG to make it easy). Macro-Genre are large scale and encompass vast majorities of arts. Micro-Genre are extremely specific and narrow in focus. Neither MaG nor MiG require 'Preventing other Genre from applying'. A game can be both a (MaG or MiG) as well as another (MaG or MiG) or another genre completely.

So Macro-Genre RPG can also be a Macro-Genre Horror for example.

The next step is to define the MaG and MiG. Macro-Genre have to be very widespread, but also simple to understand. "RPG" brings across an element of "Playing a character", but it also has a requirement of "Stats (not necessarily known to the player) are applied to things, and Mathematical calculations are applied to determine results." and a following requirement of "Those stats are somehow permanently increasable through normal gameplay."

This means, Zelda with upgradeable weapons (damage increase), upgradeable HP (more heart containers), upgradeable skills (learning new swordplay or the ability to swim) all follow the requirements and make Zelda games part of the Macro-Genre RPG. In comparison, Mario games have HP and upgrades like the Fire Flower, but they are not permanent. The only improvement in playing a mario game is the player's skill improving. Which is not inside the game itself so the game isnt defined by that.

Conversely, Micro-Genre RPG is more narrow focus, significantly more narrow focus. Just some of the requirements involve equipment (with stats), RNG aspects involved, and more of a focus on tactical advantage. Such as planning out your equipment spread before a boss battle or finding ways to negate status effects.

Zelda is Not a Micro-Genre RPG game. It is an "Action-Adventure" which is a sub-genre of MaG RPG, but separate from MiG RPG completely.

To better define Macro- and Micro- Genre, consider the Genre of Horror. Horror is fairly simple to define. Something with a scary focus of narrative. But What "kind" of horror is it? Zombie Apocalypse? Monster attacks? Serial Killer? All of those are merely Micro-Genre of Horror.

Continued.

7) - I do see your point here that VE allow strategic planning to a battle's start. As well as eliminating "weak" encounters without much effort... but I do believe that isnt something that RE excludes. Perhaps we could look into a way of scaling REs up in difficulty to the player's level (Why do starting routs ALWAYS have only weak pokemon?) Or maybe we could explore an internal value where the game makes "weaker" encounters rarer as you get stronger. (Wild pokemon avoid battles against stronger trainers). We could also explore strategies into how a player starts a battle (such as how Gen 2 Headbutting a tree had a chance of the pokemon being asleep). All these are effectively still possible without VE, but it doesn't exclude VE as a settings option as well. We could have both.
8) - Shiny hunting is a rewarding experience, that I do not diminish. However, I also must point out the ways that GameFreak have allowed shiny hunting before VE were an option. Things like the Pokeradar, Chain Fishing, S.O.S. Chaining, Hoard Encounters, and DexNav are all ways to improve Shiny hunting. Just understand that things like Shiny Hunting are either a "rare" reward of chance, or something that should take effort as well. Being handed a shiny isnt the same as taking time to hunt. VE showing the shiny means you could just hide in a corner and wait for the eventual spawn, a very boring action. While efforts can be made to make shiny hunting (and other 'optional actions') feel more rewarding, they still need to make the action 'challenging' more than sitting in a corner for an hour and waiting.

Re: Some History About ILCA, The Japanese Studio Working On The Pokémon Diamond And Pearl Remakes

LordGeovanni

Continued...

4) - Unfortunately that actually doesnt portray the aspects of RE. While the spawns are random, so are the VE spawns. But the overworld characters just are aggressive and portray all the standards of VE. It might "feel" as if it isnt required, but it actually causes the player strife because now they have a psychological feeling that they don't "NEED" to do this battle and it is their own "fault" having to fight it, or even losing to it. REs in contrast are outside the player's control and dont place the "burden" of occurring on the player "allowing" the fight to happen.
5) - This plays more to the link I suggested above. On average, players actually avoid more VE than RE, to an extent that Devs have had to increase rewards (exp, gold, etc...) to actually balance the lack of players actually fighting. This isnt an increase to entice fighting... it is actually to try and fix the failure of the player 'not' fighting and being at a disadvantage going into the next boss. Take Pokemon Gen 1 for example. If you skip all the Zubat and Geodude REs, you are likely under leveled to fight Misty. And now, you have a small patch of grass to grind on if you cant beat the rival either. And we are talking a deficiency of more like 50% of the exp, not 10% or 20%. If devs have to boost the reward, that means the players are causing a conflict with the game already.
6) - This point I didnt find too clear. Sorry. What I take from it is that you disagree with RE because they dont feel fair as if you should have been able to see them. In a way, I agree. But there also needs to be a difficulty in games. Pokemon does a good job of it where it limits spawns in particular areas (like tall grass) and I commend them for that, but I do understand the irritation, I just do not see a better way to account for that.

Re: Some History About ILCA, The Japanese Studio Working On The Pokémon Diamond And Pearl Remakes

LordGeovanni

@everynowandben
I appreciate your acknowledgement on my views, especially that I made apparent that I promoted positives of Random Encounters and highlighted negatives of Visible Encounters. I like keeping topics aware of what they are.

I also see your point in your responses. Please allow my direct responses to your points:

1) - I do agree that Random Encounters (RE from here out) are a mechanic that feels cheap. More to the point, it is also a mechanic uncontrolled by the player. As the player doesnt have a control in they system, it will by design feel cheap. It is the situations of low health and desperation that I feel really drives the game, if the game is just a simple stroll back into safe territory, what exactly was risked? These memories of overcoming adversity is what makes games so enjoyable. I do agree that perhaps less punishing methods should be implemented for failure, but reducing the difficulty isnt the answer in my opinion. (for example, instead of losing Half your money, maybe cap it at $5k loss, or 10% loss or such. Balance is needed).
2) - RE are considered "outdated" only because they were an early game design. And yes, they were used for limited computing design reasons, but that doesn't make them bad in themselves. Having the game utilize a random element of encounter is merely a way of creating a personalized playthrough. It is different from other players because of the random elements. And it is exactly that reason why Nuzlockes are so well prized: not allowing the run to be "the same as the last" while causing new adversities to challenge the player.
3) - "Given the opportunity, players will optimize the fun out of a game," is something that I took a very close look at. I do agree that players should have Some control, but allowing full control often allows players to make the game into a bland snorefest. I recommend looking at https://www.thegamer.com/players-optimize-fun-out-of-games for more on this topic. But I do agree that gamers need Some control. That is why I feel adding new Settings options for more things like RE or Visible Encounters should be considered.

Re: Some History About ILCA, The Japanese Studio Working On The Pokémon Diamond And Pearl Remakes

LordGeovanni

Another major aspect of the difference is the psychological affect onto the players. A player will strip down the difficulty (and fun) of any game. Giving players the "option" of encountering Wild Pokemon also gives them the responsibility to fight them. If the game is balanced so that you have an expectation of fighting ~10 wild battles while going through a dungeon, Visible Encounters causes the player to avoid those battles because it feels better to them. As if they are getting one up on the game by dodging those battles. But this also causes those players to be under leveled for their next areas and then make the game seem "unfair" when their next boss curbstomps them. Random Encounters don't allow you to choose, they just happen. They don't allow you to dodge, they happen and then you have a risk to run or fight. The game takes away the choice to avoid combat, and by participating in the combat you grow stronger - strong enough to take on that Boss coming up soon. Even the whole concept of "grinding" is caused by players trying to make a game easier - either through trying to force battles, or by trying to avoid battles. If a player is dodging battles, they are lacking in experience they should have and are weaker than they should be, if they are hunting something specific down (like a rare pokemon or shiny) they tend to be stronger than they are expected for their point and make the difficulty of the next battles vanish. That last point is actually why the dynamic exp started occurring in Black & White... GameFreak wanted to prevent players from Grinding one pokemon and ignoring the balanced team. By forcing players to grind a team they reduced the ability to grow one pokemon to 20+ levels above the competition. Grinding after you get through the area is also an aspect of Visible Encounters. If a player doesn't gain the expected exp in a dungeon they are now below the proper challenge of the next boss, but at the same time they got to that boss without challenge as they dodge all that challenge. Now they are "forced to" grind where if they didn't have the ability to dodge they wouldn't "Have to" grind in the first place.

There are a whole lot of issues I have with Visible Encounters and I basically only listed out the major issues above, however I additionally don't want to spend hours typing this out. I do admit that this is a persuasive comment, and that I haven't gone into the positives of Visible and negatives of Random, but that can always be discussed later. I also want to make certain that I make it known I am always open for discussion, I do understand that other players enjoy different things. I actually REALLY like the idea of making Visible or Random Encounters a toggle in the Settings Menu as that would allow the best of both worlds, but alas game devs seem to ignore this option.

Feel free for yourself, or anyone else, to continue the discussion. I am trying to make my own games as well and discussions like this are always helpful in understanding how players view game mechanics.

Re: Some History About ILCA, The Japanese Studio Working On The Pokémon Diamond And Pearl Remakes

LordGeovanni

  • Static Encounters are a common version that a large amount of players are quite aware of and comfortable with. These tend to be divided into two groups: Boss Encounters and Optional Encounters. You may not always know "what" you are fighting, but you know that you are going into a battle in advance. This gives players that time to prepare that a vast majority actually properly use. These types of battles are things like Fishing, the ! battles in SWSH, and the overworld encounters like the three birds and Snorlax in Gen 1. While the first Snorlax is "required", it is more a Boss Encounter due to that very reason... but it is also "elective" to when you encounter it because the player needs to engage it, it isn't just going to find you to fight. Most Pokemon Trainer battles occur this way as well, aside the "trainer sight" all the trainer battles only occur in a set area (for each battle) and they are noticeable by players by them seeing the trainer. The option to refuse to battle them is still prominent and aside the Boss Encounters, people can easily just never fight them, like Fishing. How often do players forget they can fish simply because they are not required to fish?
  • Visible Encounters are the most prevalent demand for RPGs at this point. These encompass a Symbol Encounter mechanic where you can see the triggers for entering a battle, but they also have a description of the battle you would enter. Not all Visible Encounters say everything about the battle before it starts, games like Dragon Quest XI tell you 'one' of the monsters in the battle and not all them, but for a game like Pokemon where you have an extreme rarity in battles involving more than 1 enemy it is extremely abusable in these games. Want to "grind" for rare pokemon? Hide in a corner and wait for the right pokemon to spawn. Want to "grind" for a specific Held Item? Hide in a corner and wait for the right pokemon to spawn. Want to train your pokemon in battles? Hide in a corner and wait for the easy pokemon to spawn. Visible Encounters remove the difficulty in playing a game, similar to the application of cheating devices to games to make them not challenging any more. While people tend to say that cheat devices are "not fair" and Visible Encounters are "fair" simply because the game is coded to cause them, there are too many ways to abuse Visible Encounters.

Concluded in the next post...

Re: Some History About ILCA, The Japanese Studio Working On The Pokémon Diamond And Pearl Remakes

LordGeovanni

@Lanmanna

Certainly. I will agree that a majority of gamers seem to hate them, but they are a much healthier mechanic than Visible Encounters. (The entire rest of this post goes really in-depth on this, it may seem boring, but it actually is a deep dive into why Visible Encounters suck)

Random Encounters actually have a psychological benefit to players. With them, players have no control over when they battle (outside of mechanics like Repel). With that, choosing to enter a battle is not really in the player's hands. This in turn becomes the game "forcing" the battles and makes the game experience "challenging" to the player - they don't have a way to select the difficulty of the battle (which pokemon they are fighting), they don't have the ability to "farm" specific pokemon for rare Held Items or to capture specific pokemon (which is mediated through things like Shiny Hunting already, but leaves the Random aspects for things that need them like Nuzlockes), and they don't control the frequency of battle which is a major aspect for teaching gamers to prepare in advance rather than hoarding and waiting for when you Have to use stuff. That last part is quite crucial, so what does it exactly mean? Games are actually teaching players some life skills. Things like preparing in advance for adversity is something that people in general tend to fail for. For example, how often does a player purchase Burn Heal or Ice Heal? In comparison, higher level Pokemon Gameplay actually has those items purchased just in case you need them. This actually extends down to regular item usage as well, using items like Potions and berries to maintain your HP after a battle rather than just dodging battles, if you can't choose when the battle is you have to at last be ready for the battle when it does occur.

As for Visible Encounters, there are three versions that many people don't know the full details for, but each have their own positives and negatives. You have Symbol Encounters, Static Encounters, and Visible Encounters.

  • Symbol Encounters are just like the Tales of games, they are weird blobs that cause a battle when they touch you, but you have no knowledge of what you are fighting until the battle starts. This mediates the problem of players "selecting" the battles they want (such as targeting Geodude to OHKO with grass or water moves instead of "having to deal with" Zubat in Mount Moon, or targeting Chansey and Blissey to get massive experience without much effort) however this still has the problems of allowing players to decide when the battles occur, as well as making the battles seem "unfair" when the player is pinned into a corner by them or they spawn too close to dodge.

LordGeovanni

To be honest, the Gen 4 remakes look great so far. Love that they (seemingly) followed the original game tile by tile and that the game (currently appears to) have no visible encounters. Literally made me eat my own words that I wouldn't ever buy another Pokemon game.

Then again... Snap 2 looks good as well... Maybe I should just ban any game made by GameFreak at this rate.

Re: Soapbox: Pokémon Diamond And Pearl's Greatest Contribution To The Series Was The Underground

LordGeovanni

I heavily enjoyed the Underground. Personally, the most amazing thing that could be announced tomorrow would be a re-release of the underground as its own game. I can't stand how they're changing random encounters into being symbol encounters and visible encounters and wish they would make it a toggle in the settings menu instead. Let's go started a horrible precident and I have absolutely no interest in Shield and Sword because of that.

Re: "Special Edition" Gold Monster Hunter Rise amiibo Set Up For Grabs In 7-Eleven Japan Lottery

LordGeovanni

@Danny429
That is not an excuse. Even if they were to make say 10,000 total. And you had to buy them as an entire set... There are still ways to make a bot proof sale system. Especially if it is a one-time item.

Have that particular screen have a question that the box will not be able to easily answer. Such as "What planet are you on?" Until the same style of prompt is used more than once, bots can't be prepared in order to snap them all up for scalping. Move the inputfield to the right, change the question, have people type out a word in the question... There is an infinite amount of ways to make a pre-order system that prevent bots. They are just not the cheapest thing around. But neither are the bots.

Regardless, having an exclusive, limited edition, coveted item available solely through a gambling mechanic is not good for the industry, collectors, or even gaming PR in general. In addition to that, if they made it clear that pre-orders would only be available at a specific time and then just fulfill the orders pre-ordered, they don't need to worry about stocking issues or shipping to stores as they just will ship it to your house. And you will pay the shipping. Easy.

Re: Splatoon 2 Keyrings Went Up On My Nintendo Today, And Immediately Sold Out

I can't help but be incredibly angry looking at the Japanese site mentioned. They have probably 50 + different physical rewards. In the meantime the NOA website crashes everytime they put up a new reward because 50,000 people try to order something that they've only allocated 100 codes for. Then that reward either is completely gone or doesn't get updated until approximately 22 days later at 3:04 a.m.

Re: Square Enix Is Teasing Something Related To The World Ends With You (Again)

LordGeovanni

@Solaine the question unfortunately becomes did you play the DS version or one of the others. If you played one of the others I would recommend possibly looking into the DS version. If you played the DS version already, I would say to just spam buttons for the Ally and focus on the bottom screen. Once you have enough attacks you are familiar with with a cool down that supports one another, then try keeping an eye on the top screen.
One thing I would recommend at that point, try to gather clothing that gives free stars to your partner. With plus two or three, getting the bonus attack is relatively quick, but it also helps teach you how to get those stars in battle much easier.

Re: Square Enix Is Teasing Something Related To The World Ends With You (Again)

LordGeovanni

I don't buy it. This would be what? The third time they've teased like this? the 4th?

@XBontendo if you have any interest in the game , I would recommend getting the DS version only. The iOS port had to strip down the original game concepts so you only focus on playing one character really. In comparison the DS game had you controlling two different characters completely. The switch version has the unfortunate side effect of merely being a part of the most recent version aka the iOS version. Combine that with the poor motion controls and I have had absolutely no interest in getting TWEWY on switch.

Re: Nintendo's FY 2021 Digital Sales Have Risen 139.4% Compared To Last Year

LordGeovanni

@graysoncharles
Oh yes, because wanting to physically own a game is certainly something that makes me an elitist.

Unfortunately I feel that a lot of digital-only buyers are going to get a nasty shock someday. Not something that I hope for, but I would rather pay a little more in money and inconvenience to secure my investment.

I do not dismiss those that buy digital, I just hold expectation that larger companies still produce physical versions of those digital games.

Re: Final Fantasy IX Is Getting A Physical Release On Nintendo Switch

LordGeovanni

Honestly this news upsets me. Ended up buying this game digitally along with VII. Ended up having to buy the seven and eight physical edition. Turn around and now 9 is also physical. Getting a bit upset that devs think I'm just some piggy bank.

For those talking about the different final fantasies, I enjoy playing 7, 8, and 9. 10 is good too, but I feel that's where new technology was encouraging less RPG design elements. Take away the animations and voice acting and the game feels a lot more linear then other final fantasies. Each one of 7, 8, and 9 have their own design concepts but many of them work quite effectively. 12 was also quite enjoyable, but the story was rushed and characters very shallow. Battle was much weaker in comparison and the Gambit system made battle only tedious however simple it became.

Re: Skies Of Arcadia Dev Says Remaster Or Sequel Depends On Sega

LordGeovanni

Not going to lie NintendoLife, at first I thought that title said a sequel or remake was announced. You had me about a thousand percent happy for a moment until I read it again. I absolutely wish that the Sega would remaster, re-release, make a sequel, anything. I am extremely tempted right now to do nothing but just tweet Sega a link to your article. Literally the only negative I had from playing that game was the understanding that the battles were far too frequent. Slide that encounter scale down to 50% and that game could easily sell like crazy on the switch. Or even better, give players control over the encounter rate.

Re: Paper Mario Producer Says He's "Not Opposed To The Fans' Opinions"

LordGeovanni

And what part of me saying that I have not claimed him a narcissist is unable for you to understand? That requires a much more personal level of interaction than anyone can have with merely a name and some work performance detailed in mere text. I have called him Arrogant, called him a Prick. I have DETAILED WHY. You conveniently ignore every time I mention why in some attempt to merely wish away the facts.

Something else you seem to misplace? Understanding the discussion we are having here. Either we are discussing and debating, or we are arguing. One involves logic and fact, while the last requires more mudslinging and targeted attacks at the other. You have consistently targeted me for insult and harassment this entire time and it really shows how poorly you can debate.

You seem to distort reality around you. Innovation is not merely a drastic upheaval, it is planned and plotted attempt at reinvigorating a situation. Specifically a situation that has shown poor results, either through deterioration or by performance. The trad. RPG is still effective, otherwise Bug Fable would not NEARLY be as popular as it is. Tanabe's insistence at upending the tea table with every new game is EXACTLY poor performance. Maybe we can innovate Paper Mario by getting rid of this Rubbish Producer who sees this series as his own fiefdom. A stance I have held this entire thread. Let's be honest here, innovation is supposed to spark revolution. Not in the fans, in the creation and quality of a game or series. Tanabe "innovated" Paper Mario and made Sticker Star. Fans HATED it. So he failed. And he "innovated" again. Color Splash. Fans HATED it. So he failed.. again. He had to Innovate a THIRD TIME IN A ROW. That isn't innovation, that is desperation. He is so far out of alignment at this point he should CTRL+Z all the changes and restart with what he knows made a good Paper Mario game. Which, sadly for him, predates his involvement in the series.

For some braying voice online to consider me hypocritical, bah. Where has my "innovation" even been stated here? I have called for a reversion to the series. To undo the damage he has done. There is not a SHRED of "innovation" in such a thought.

It is not common for someone to merely allow something they enjoy to get destroyed. My voice here is merely a whisper on the wind. You know what? Those stack up. Tanabe is showing through these constant interviews that he is stressing more and more, changing more and more, for nonsensical reasons. He is showing that he honestly does not have care for the fan's requests, that he is quick to blame others, that he still believes his own hype. He is a failure as a Producer. His work ethic shows it, his comments shows it, his ARROGANCE shows it. As someone who enjoys Paper Mario, or at least the Paper Mario that I grew up with, I do not stay silent. As a person who understands and respects the quality of a Nintendo product, I will not stay silent. As a person seeking to make my own games, I need to seek out what flaws I could have myself... And I have an EXCELLENT TEMPLATE for what to avoid with Tanabe. I will NOT stay silent when he is a problem. Especially when I know the majority of fans are desperate for something as simple as EXP IN AN RPG. Tanabe has a lot to answer for, it isn't I demanding. It is We. And We are many, many upset fans getting more and more irritated over and over with these false promises and misdirection.

Re: Paper Mario Producer Says He's "Not Opposed To The Fans' Opinions"

LordGeovanni

@Tuney
You seem to do a whole lot of defending one person you don't know by insulting and attacking another person you don't know. Seeing as how you did not comment whatsoever on the Google doc I linked, I am now of the impression that you have completely ignored every last logical point I've brought up.

I should go through your comment line by line to explain just how horrible you are being in this discussion...

You most certainly can defend somebody outside of them being your uncle, but that normally takes a little bit more logic into account and little bit less emotional appeal.
I already gave objective facts in my Google document.
I called Tanabe an arrogant prick because he is an arrogant prick. This very article proves that, deliberately saying that there is no fan whatsoever that is capable of coming up with ideas that he would even bother to spend time on considering. Such ignorance of others ideas is arrogance. He's a prick by flaunting said arrogance.
As this guy has single-handedly been dismantling one-game series that I've enjoyed for a significant part of my life, that doesn't exactly endear me to him.
As you seem to consider me a "prude" for merely utilizing disgusting vocabulary such as curse words only for their original intentions, shock factor or being particularly vulgur, I doubt you have any substantial reason to actually curse at other people. As such that is nothing more than a direct insult to me as a person.
As Tanabe is considered a professional in game design and publishing, I would hold him to a higher level of expertise in those said fields. If Tanabe is unable to produce satisfactory results, and willfully ignores any attempts to explain to him why he is getting unsavory results, he deserves being called out on his hard-headedness.

Not one point of this comment that you made has value. You are blustering and blubbering whatever words you can to try and seek a foothold in this discussion. The sad state of Paper Mario is already apparent, Tanabe has critically failed the Paper Mario series, and indeed other series he has also become invested in. You need not look any farther than my first comment to see the fans agreeing on this. How else would I have over 100 different people on NintendoLife agreeing that my comment is something that they approve of?

Re: Physical Rewards Are Now Available On My Nintendo (US)

LordGeovanni

Honestly I am beginning to really dislike how Nintendo has been updating things lately. Limited release games, new game announcements being dropped on Twitter instead of informing everyone in advance so I always end up spoiled on all the cool news, and now physical rewards that I just don't get the cool one because they probably only had 50 and they didn't even bother to announce it properly so that people could get it after 12 minutes.

Re: Physical Rewards Are Now Available On My Nintendo (US)

LordGeovanni

Very frustrating that I'm on top of multiple Nintendo news sites and I still can't even get a physical Xenoblade item because they didn't stock enough. :/

hopefully it comes back in stock but they're also already seeking a minimum of $5 shipping. And I don't think it looks like you can double up so I would still have to pay $5 more for stickers too T.T

Give me like soundtracks for 5K platinum and I will do the work Nintendo.
