Re: Nintendo's Mobile RPG Dragalia Lost Is Finally Being Released In The UK, Canada And Australia

LightBeam

I don't understand why people really don't care about Europe
Even when we are talking about Europe, UK is the only country we talk about, even if they left the European Union. Sometimes I just feel like people outside the continent just forget that there's a bunch of other countries out here
Whatever, I don't really care about the game being localized, even if I can play it in English it would be cool

Re: Nintendo Switch Firmware 7.0.0 Already Hacked Just Four Hours After Going Live

LightBeam

@electrolite77 Yeah I understand your point of view. To be honest I thought that the PSP was more successful than it really was, mostly because I know a lot of people who had one (and yeah, I believe most of them cracked those, don't know if they were running pirated games but they were running emulators for sure)
You may be right about the PS1, DS etc ... To be honest, I can't see any other reason, hacking is not meant for everyone but it can sometimes help to promote, so on successful consoles it may have some benefits. On less successful devices it's way harder to tell, I guess it depends on the hackers way to do their stuff. What I mean by that is that a lot of people on forums do care about piracy and make sure that everything that involves piracy is deleted. There was some discussions about how the community can make sure that the hacking scene would not hurt the sales of the Switch.
Just to say that people have that in mind, they don't want to destroy all they touch. But humans are all different I guess so sometimes, they don't care as soon as they get free games ...
Just to talk about the PSP again, because now I think it's quite surprising, only 3.88 games per system ??? Because I believe that the DS hack is so easy. At least in my country, back in the days everyone knew about some cards that let you play some games that you won't need to buy, and when I mean everyone, I mean even someone like my own mom. So what are you saying about the PSP seems quite surprising to me (not saying that I don't believe you tho), if it didn't happened to the DS, I wonder why it did to the PSP. Maybe because most of them also owned a DS ? The lack of mainstream games on PSP but not on the DS ? I can see that as one of the reasons, but like you said, it's hard to quantify and there's also a lot of factors ...
Anyway, just wanted to say that I believe that a lot of people on the hacking scene nowadays try to be more "responsible" about this kind of stuff. Well, not counting the guys who made online cheating possible (fk those guys), but you got my point.

Re: Nintendo Switch Firmware 7.0.0 Already Hacked Just Four Hours After Going Live

LightBeam

@technotreegrass Yeah they can permaban so easily, so most of the people who hack their console just stay permanently offline, use DNS to try to avoid all Nintendo's connections, or just get banned sooner or latter. If you cheat online you are sure that you will get banned pretty quickly so I don't think it's that big of an issue if Nintendo is reacting very quickly to these problems

Re: Nintendo Switch Firmware 7.0.0 Already Hacked Just Four Hours After Going Live

LightBeam

@electrolite77 Alright so
Yeah, the study is not quite precise, and everyone know that, but we already can say that it's not harming the hardware sales.
Now about the sources you gave me, i'll talk briefly about them in order :
1 : Writen by a random photographer, not saying that his point is bad or whatever, but it's a blogpost, a "discussion" and so there's no proof of any kind
2 : Literally just Sony saying that piracy is bad. Nothing more. Everyone has done it before, and everyone told them that it's not because a lot of people pirate your games that you lost those actual sales.
3 : Same
4 : Same as 1st
5 : Same as 1st
6 : And that is the most interesting.
I had an example like that with Volgarr The Viking where, if I remember well back in the days, the game was pirated over 90% of the time, leaving little sales to the developer. Which is really sad, that's true. But it's because pirated games a way more common on PC than anywhere else (and also because a lot of people took advantage of the game being available on GoG), after a few releases on consoles, it became another story.
So I'll have to excuse, I have not been precise, I was talking about the console market, because on PC, it's something else and because of piracy being way more implemented, some independant games can be really hurt by that, that's true, and that is the case for The Witness.
So, imho, it's still not naive to believe that piracy is not hurting the market (talking about the consoles). For the PC, a lot of people don't hack independant games, I don't know personnally a single person who pirate independant games, and even if they do, they buy it when they can (and if they know they can't buy it, they don't pirate it)
I'm also wondering why nobody is asking about games on NDS, PS1, Wii, where a lot of games shouldn't have met success because of piracy ... I'm sure there's a lot of them (not trying to be sarcastic btw, just in case you were wondering)

Re: Nintendo Switch Firmware 7.0.0 Already Hacked Just Four Hours After Going Live

LightBeam

@electrolite77 Can you be more specific please ?
Its still not responsible for the fate of the Dreamcast or any other system that failed in the past
There's no evidence that piracy affects video games sales. Saying otherwise is lkjhgfdsdrftyuik. Actually some believe that it may even help (https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2017/09/eu-study-finds-piracy-doesnt-hurt-game-sales-may-actually-help/)
And yeah, I am sure it did gave a little help to the Wii U (some people still enjoy their Wii U just because you can hack it and do A LOT of stuff with it), and it also helped the NDS, the PSP, the Wii, and a lot of other consoles
I don't believe that we could prove otherwise, but I'm still opened to arguments proving that piracy is harming the industry really hard

Re: Nintendo Switch Firmware 7.0.0 Already Hacked Just Four Hours After Going Live

LightBeam

Well, piracy never killed any console, so I don't really care about that really
I don't understand why some people are that mad about people doing whatever they want with their console, yeah some of them steal games, some other just install themes/mods/emulators or whatever, but if we put aside the "pirate all the games" aside, there would be no reason to hack the console if Nintendo would do some themes/templates for the UI and a correct "virtual console" replacement
There's not enough mods to say that it's a reason to hack the console imo. So yeah, Nintendo right now is slow asf, no applications, no way to actually read video files for example, there's a lot of stuff missing and I know that a lot of people will tell me "oh you know it's a video game console", but sometimes people want to do more, that's why they hack it. If you don't offer a legal way, even a paid one, to do something they want to, they'll eventually get it, even if they need to hack your stuff

So yeah, just start by letting people customize the stuff they bought from you and give them the feeling of making it their own other by purchasing expensive joycons, it will be a great start

Re: Metroid Prime 4 Development Scrapped, Will Be Restarted Alongside Retro Studios

LightBeam

Well, can't say I'm that optimistic
Retro Studios is no longer the studio it was before, so I want more details when they say that they are working with the "same team" as before, I highly doubt that they are working with exactly the same team ...
I still hope for the best, I'm very sad about this announcement, but I'll wait
Just release something to keep us waiting, like, you know ... Metroid Prime Trilogy ...

Re: Rumour: DLC Fighter For Smash Bros. Ultimate Leaked On Japanese Textboard

LightBeam

Maybe I would have prefer the character from Dragon Quest XI, but Erdrick is the only one who have a name, so it's alright
I've always wanted some Dragon Quest representation, it's not because Dragon Quest is not that recognised in Western territories that we can't have it, we shouldn't forget that around here people prefer Final Fantasy way more than Dragon Quest, so it does make sense, the game is meant for everyone

Re: Guide: The Best Pokémon Games - Every Mainline Pokémon Game Ranked

LightBeam

Diamond and Pearl at the bottom list ?
It changed the online gameplay a lot, it's the first game that allowed proper competitive matches to be made, not only because of the online functionality but because the gameboy advance games weren't made for that
It should be at least in the top 5 imho, and I'm not even talking about my own nostalgia because it would push me to put the game way higher. The best Pokemon game are White2/Black2, the best content we ever had in a Pokemon game, so much to do even after the league, a really good story, great graphics for the NDS.
Pokemon Yellow should be lower, it's only Red & Blue but with Pikachu, just so that people can relate to the anime, not really interesting imo cuz Pikachu isn't actually good in the game, being cute is not enough, I really don't understand why he is highter than Ultra Sun & Moon, Ruby & Sapphire and X & Y
Why Platinum is that much higher than Diamond and Pearl ? Just because of mini games and new forms ? Come on, of course Platinum is way better, but it doesn't explain why Diamond and Pearl are that low, all the complaints made about those are still valid about Platinum. "Well, the general gameplay flow wasn't really changed all that much from its predecessors" Well guess what, expect in Sun & Moon, it never changed that much.
"and both the visuals and audio weren't particularly well-received" By who ?

  • the game got the best scenario we ever had in a Pokemon game imo, we had really awesome quests as events and mystery gifts, Darkrai, Cresselia, Arceus etc ... Now what do we have ? Just postmans who give you legendaries, k great
I know I am really biased, but I just don't understand how a game with huge qualities like it is bottom tier in this list for dumb reasons, if you don't like it, ok, but it's obviously one of the best Pokemon games and one that was the most innovative imo

Re: Nintendo Will Remove Smash Bros. Ultimate's Offensive Depiction Of Native Americans

LightBeam

Well, if they just remove the feather so ... Whatever, it's not such a big deal at least, I know Nintendo is really careful about these things, I remember about the islamic song in Ocarina of Time, it was really disturbing so I'm glad to see that they decided to change that. So who knows, maybe somebody became upset because of this little feather, even if it's just a little thing, it can have a huge sense for some people. Censor is indulgent chocolate pudding, we should always ask if it's really offensive for some people or not, but from a company perspective, it's better to just avoid these kind of risks.

Re: Rumour: Netflix's Castlevania Executive Producer Is Apparently "Working" On A Legend Of Zelda Series

LightBeam

Didn't finished Castlevania season 2 yet, but I enjoyed it, wasn't perfect, had a lot of flaws, but eh, it was still kinda nice to see Castlevania as a cartoon
The guy already said that he wanted to work on Metroid and Zelda before, and we are not even sure he is working on a Nintendo IP, but if he is, it could be Zelda or Metroid.
I wouldn't have any objection against any of these, even if the final product is not that great, it still something that the whole franchise could benefit, especially Metroid
I don't really understand the "game of thrones but for family" thing, but the guy looked like he knows what Metroid is about, loneliness, exploration etc ... so why not after all

Re: Random: Collect Saints, Not Pocket Monsters In The Most God-Like Pokémon GO Clone Yet

LightBeam

@Kalmaro Well, people here will still believe that religion is bad, because of wars and all and all ... Like you know ... In history religion prooved being dangerous ... (spoiler : it's as dangerous as everything else), no religion ? There would be still wars and bloodsheds, religion doesn't change much except the excuse being something else
I'm not telling that to you personaly of course

But I still don't understand how people can say "religion is dangerous, look at history, it is so bad" when it proved it could be both, it only depends on humans. So why do you say that religion is bad when it depends on someone else ? That makes no sense. It is supposed to be good, if somebody makes it seems bad, it doesn't change the core itself.

So it is dangerous, imo not more than any form of system where somebody can have a greater power (so religion or not, power is dangerous, when you see through history, you don't see that religion brought wars but you see that it is power and money, and it still the same today). That's why I prefer when religion is not organized by somebody like a Pope, but rather by the local people themselves, imo it is less dangerous and closer to what is is supposed to be. Something who bring people together.
Anyway, still kinda nice to see sometimes religious debates, even in a video games website. As soon as people are not being insulting, is it ok and I think it shouldn't be taboo.

Well, my comment is already huge but I've just realised I didn't talked about the news itself, and I think it looks kinda weird to "catch" the Saints, but eh, as soon as it is made with good intentions ... why not ? These games as old as video games, so it must be because there's people to play these

Re: A Zelda-Like Open World Pokémon Game Is "Still On The Cards", Says Junichi Masuda

LightBeam

@Pokefanmum82 The catching mechanic is completely riped-off from Pokemon Go ... And they didn't made the game themselves, how is that innovative ?
The game had aged pretty well, they added some good mechanics and improved the game in the right way imo, but it still the same game, it's like Twilight Princess : it's just an improved Ocarina of Time in some ways but it's not completely new. It still top down, it still turn based and the list goes on ...

Re: Dragon Quest X Could Make It To The West As An Offline Version

LightBeam

I'll take it day one. I've asked for it since years, online or offline, I don't care, I just want to play it.
You could just release it a a coop focused game, playable in single player, but yeah, offline mode will do the job.
On Switch the offline mode could work well with multiple Switch consoles.
Please just release it so we can have the whole saga available.
I may be wrong, but it doesn't look as hard as they say, cuz even if they keep saying that it's an MMORPG, it looked like you just had a few adventurers with you, it kinda reminded me of Dragon Quest IX where you were able to play with local friends the whole game if you wanted to
