That's a good decision, the 3DS has one of the strongest game libraries out there as well as a huge user base. I own a NS but is mostly for home use while the 3DS is my on-the-go choice, specially for all those fantastic JRPGs
That´s why I´m sure 2018 will have a very aggressive release schedule with lots of heavy hitters. If they manage to sustain and even increase the console´s momentum one more year they will have enough inertia for the upcoming years.
The last Nintendo Direct Mini was very solid and it won´t be compared to the news we will hear during E3. My advise would be to finish all your current games because this is going to be a very busy year.
