The best thing they can do is announce that while the presentation is being watched that viewers can rush to their local store and pick up a system today. It worked really well for the Sega Saturn. Wink 😉 Wink
I will definitely miss 3d. One game that I love playing with the effect on (I really play everything with 3d full blast) is Rusty's Real Deal Baseball.
Kind of sad to see some art talent wasted because Nintendo is so old school with technology. My kids love Nintendo, but are easily distracted when other franchises do such a better job at marketing and keeping up with the times.
Nintendo is really bungling this one. They missed Christmas sales on all platforms by not running deals, they missed a decent pre-order window to determine demand and gear up sales, and they have now failed to get after Christmas pre-orders rolling for people who had left over cash. They are now going to come in with low stock, little to no third party launch support, and a two month window to generate buzz for the average consumer. It's almost like they are hoping this console flops.
There is no way Nintendo had development kits out in time to get Persona 5. I wouldn't be surprised if Sega is holding back until they see initial sales. There wasn't much launch titles for PS4 either from third parties.
I thought you were going to lose some fingers with your knife. I had to explain to my 5 year old daughter, watching with me, that sometimes adults make unwise choices and she can't mimic what she saw in the video.
Al of you archaic standard 3ds players killed multiplayer!
That is the new trouble of this console generation. Different powered models have just made games not be able to take full advantage of the new enhancements. Same thing is happening on Xbox and Playstation.
I know it is a scam, but I would have been willing to pay $20 for an Amiibo that opened up a new dungeon or area of the world. Kind of makes the DLC feel of Amiibo at least make sense and then the figure is the bonus. For example you could pay $20 for the new dungeon digitally or go to your store and pay $20 and get a free Amiibo figure.
If Universal is wise then they will make the Nintendo area a blend of Disney meets Universal. Have some younger kid rides that operate like a Disney attraction (ride in a buggy and experience a tangible Nintendo game world) and then also have the more thrilling older kids/adult rides too.
I have an AES and a consolized MVS. I love having them. If you love arcade games of yesteryears then you owe yourself these systems by saving up your cash. I lucked out and purchased mine nearly 15 years ago before the market for these things became crazy. Like back in the day when Nintendo items were dirt cheap.
@techotreegrass Thank you for the response! I noticed that sometimes I will get international visitors even on normal weeks. I wonder why that is unless I just happen to have a McD's by me that gets Japanese, Irish, Spanish visitors all in one day. I like streetpass, but I too see it as a missed opportunity. There is not really a way to interact with those people unless I rate them as Fantastic or write a special message in case we meet again. Nintendo needs to up their community features to meet Xbox/PS standards.
Nintendo didn't learn their lesson if this is the real deal. Now they are screwing over their diehard fans because these are games we all have and they will perform better on Wii U in most gameplay features. Anyone who passed on the Wii U is not all of a sudden going to run out and buy a Switch because of a new Mario game and a bunch of games that are a few years old. I sure hope there is something else up Nintendo's sleeve. They will sell a few units off Mario and Zelda alone, but that is not a viable strategy for the future of the console.
Nintendo worried too much about staying profitable on their hardware when they should have worried about market share and moving units. By the time PS4 and XB1 released it was too late they needed to cut prices and move units at Christmas.
@stargazer It is supposed to be available at all major retailers that are choosing to stock that special edition. Best Buy has confirmed, but I assume most major stores will have that deal.
Good marketing to move an underperforming game. Guilt is always a good marketing tool. It is the same way Disneyland works. Parents think they can be too busy and checked out for their kids 360 days a year and then spend 5 days at Disneyland and make everything good.
I still use Miitomo, but it is a struggle to log in to recently. Some of the updates actually make it less fun for me to use. I have a ton of friends so I still see people on it even though 90% of the original users are long gone. The outfits are about the only fun thing about it any more. It would make more sense if they linked the Miitomo friends list with my Nintendo network friends, but Nintendo has always failed at the networking aspect of things.
For all we know the actors just had videos playing on the hardware or nothing at all (added effects later). Nothing can be for sure determined by watching how the players act with the Switch.
@rjejr - you can find Amiibos at every major store. Here I found Animal Crossing figures, and over at this store Animal Crossing figures, and at this store.... Animal Crossing figures..... Hmmmmm.... Starting to see a trend here. On a side note I think I can now buy Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival with every Animal Crossing Amiibo for what the game originally cost.
@Jd12345678 - this is by far my biggest issue with Gamestop. I have reserved new games coming out and went to pick up my "new" copy that was opened and the disc was in a disc sleeve. I asked them why my reserved copy was now open and they told me they had to have a display copy for the game. When questioned further I came to understand only one copy came in to the store. So I assume they were prepared to sell my copy. I got my refund and never stopped there again.
I don't want to be a jerk and call people out, but I read a lot of comments from people who have no understanding of how stocks operate. People invest money in these companies to make a quick buck. @rjejr provided the main reasoning behind the stock change. I don't fault any investors who are getting cold feet with Nintendo. The Wii U left a bad taste in investor's mouths and they are concerned if Nintendo can make them the big bucks on the next go round. The people investing big $$$ are not sitting back analyzing if there was A good mix of characters in Smash Bros - they are just out to make money. Seeing a cool console with the hope of amazing Nintendo games headed our way does not get them excited - they want to see retailers making comments about the expect a big first quarter of 2017 because Switch is going to have crazy market penetration.
Is anyone here actually going to carry this around with them? How are you going to? Maybe I am just the outlier, but I don't see myself taking this with me on business trips and other places. Perhaps their is thought that it can be used without the joy-cons and then it might be small enough to take with.
There is no way this is replacing the 3ds, right? Can you imagine carrying that around with you? Maybe there is a tablet style case for it that makes it manageable.
If this was coming to USA I would be tempted to buy my daughter this for Christmas. I am eyeing the $150 3ds right now, but didn't want her tempted to destroy her eyes with the 3d feature.
Sorry for my ignorance, but how were they able to save the voices from the original broadcasts? I would think the game file was saved on some kind of cartridge it downloaded to, but I always assumed the sound segments were a different broadcast that was not saved. I guess I need to read up on how Satellaview worked.
@ralek85 Agree with your assessment on point that Nintendo has not always been innovative to be successful. The only two innovative consoles that were successful were the Wii and NES.
Nintendo is in the same place Sega was after the Saturn went bust. The major difference is that Nintendo has money in the bank to weather another failure. I foresee the NX being much the same as the Dreamcast. A revolutionary console with amazing games that fails to reach the mass market like Sony and Microsoft.
Anyone remember alarm clocks, watches, home phones, arcades, calculators, rolodex, notepads, hand written letters, bulletin boards, video game consoles?
As a company this is a great move for Nintendo stock and profits. As a loyal Nintendo console fan this is the death knell of the console business as we know it. The console business sits in 3rd place behind Mobile and PC and it is going to be harder and harder to get consumers and investors excited about dedicated gaming hardware.
Anything I am doing wrong if I log in and I don't get any kind of notification? Should it tell me there is a free game or something when I first log in? I received the Notification, but nothing appears to be different in my Mii Plaza....
I hope Sega can start making some money again from Sonic to hopefully infuse some of that cash back into making some of their other treasured franchises. I fear that without a console business any longer it makes it less a priority for Sega to make a diverse line up of games. Here is hoping that Phantasy Star Online gets released for NX and comes west!
Hopefully they code this game better than it was on the Xbox 360. The game would make the 360 have slow down and tearing. Nintendo should release a Mario version for the west to get people interested and then release with the Culdcept card deck. The game is amazing. Way better than Fortune Street which they brought over for Wii.
It was a grave sign to only see one game announced for Nintendo's next console (perhaps two if you count Zelda). We have less than a year until release so that sends shivers up my spine (in good way and in a bad way based on lack of support). Before the PS4 and XB1 released E3 was dominated by them. There is already love for Zelda so there was no reason to sell the game so much unless they are hoping to clear out the last of the Wii U systems before the NX releases. NX is what they must sell because even hardcoe Nintendo fans are struggling to get on board (not me - day 1 purchase with or without games... I survived Wii U)
@thomasbw84 The last game released in the USA was Culdcept Saga about 10 years ago on the Xbox 360. An amazingly awesome game. Played it to death, but it didn't sell very well. 😞
It would have been nice to have some questions that revealed more about ShouTime. Maybe he didn't want to go on record about his personal life. Seems like a really interesting person.

I actually took some time to even read through most of the Kotaku article (which scares me that people look to their site for true journalism). Most of these anonymous complaints are hilarious. I've worked in artistic fields (my background is in 3d animation) and I've worked in the white collar business fields (I'm currently an analyst) so I feel my comment is from all perspectives. There is no position or job where you will not run in to people that run projects poorly, are jerks, will belittle you, the list could go on and on. It is part of dealing with the human race even in the workplace. You can either put on your big boy pants and deal with it (as long as they are not doing anything illegal), or you can constantly complain about work. If you choose to work for someone it is your choice if you stay or not in an abusive situation. Some of the meanest, ruthless people I have worked for are some of the smartest people I have ever met, but it is my choice to stay or go. I don't sit there and bad mouth them to journalists, co-workers, etc...
I still have never seen any solid evidence condemning Dyack. The guy might be a total scumbag, but everyone sure seems to think he is guilty with little details as to how and why. I would be upset to if video game "news" sites were posting rubbish about me and my career.
When I first saw the level designs it reminded me of Gyromite (not exactly sure why). Then it made me think it would have been a cool concept to have the Amiibo work like ROB did in Gyromite to beat the levels.
Great to see these results, but makes me feel really old when none of the NES games are showcased. These were revolutionary when I was playing them and when I think of Zelda games I will always see these as the top contenders.

So out of all the companies surveyed (who knows how many and if any were major publishing houses) only 5% were currently developing a Wii U game. The 3ds number seems off with all the shovelware that is developed for that system.
I would assume a site that is catering to Nintendo fans would have a majority of readers that own a Wii U. Is there that much of a demand for any of us to follow this news so we can play emulated games on the pc?
This is just a hoax. Please don't read too much in to this to have your hopes dashed. I'm still waiting on Phantasy Star to come west after it was announced years ago.
