Re: GameStop Joins In With Premature Nintendo Switch Pre-Orders in Europe

JohnBlackstar

Nintendo is really bungling this one. They missed Christmas sales on all platforms by not running deals, they missed a decent pre-order window to determine demand and gear up sales, and they have now failed to get after Christmas pre-orders rolling for people who had left over cash. They are now going to come in with low stock, little to no third party launch support, and a two month window to generate buzz for the average consumer. It's almost like they are hoping this console flops.

Re: Hardware Classics: SNK Neo Geo AES

JohnBlackstar

I have an AES and a consolized MVS. I love having them. If you love arcade games of yesteryears then you owe yourself these systems by saving up your cash. I lucked out and purchased mine nearly 15 years ago before the market for these things became crazy. Like back in the day when Nintendo items were dirt cheap.

Re: The National StreetPass Weekend: Thanksgiving Edition Is Back

JohnBlackstar

@techotreegrass Thank you for the response! I noticed that sometimes I will get international visitors even on normal weeks. I wonder why that is unless I just happen to have a McD's by me that gets Japanese, Irish, Spanish visitors all in one day. I like streetpass, but I too see it as a missed opportunity. There is not really a way to interact with those people unless I rate them as Fantastic or write a special message in case we meet again. Nintendo needs to up their community features to meet Xbox/PS standards.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch Release Date and Key Games Outlined

JohnBlackstar

Nintendo didn't learn their lesson if this is the real deal. Now they are screwing over their diehard fans because these are games we all have and they will perform better on Wii U in most gameplay features. Anyone who passed on the Wii U is not all of a sudden going to run out and buy a Switch because of a new Mario game and a bunch of games that are a few years old. I sure hope there is something else up Nintendo's sleeve. They will sell a few units off Mario and Zelda alone, but that is not a viable strategy for the future of the console.

Re: Miitomo is Due to Get a Major Update in the Near Future

JohnBlackstar

I still use Miitomo, but it is a struggle to log in to recently. Some of the updates actually make it less fun for me to use. I have a ton of friends so I still see people on it even though 90% of the original users are long gone. The outfits are about the only fun thing about it any more. It would make more sense if they linked the Miitomo friends list with my Nintendo network friends, but Nintendo has always failed at the networking aspect of things.

Re: Random: This Charming Advert for the Boo amiibo Shows That Mario's Emails Must Be Nonsensical

JohnBlackstar

@rjejr - you can find Amiibos at every major store. Here I found Animal Crossing figures, and over at this store Animal Crossing figures, and at this store.... Animal Crossing figures..... Hmmmmm.... Starting to see a trend here. On a side note I think I can now buy Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival with every Animal Crossing Amiibo for what the game originally cost.

Re: GameStop Starts Selling and Accepting Trade-Ins on Retro Gaming in the US

JohnBlackstar

@Jd12345678 - this is by far my biggest issue with Gamestop. I have reserved new games coming out and went to pick up my "new" copy that was opened and the disc was in a disc sleeve. I asked them why my reserved copy was now open and they told me they had to have a display copy for the game. When questioned further I came to understand only one copy came in to the store. So I assume they were prepared to sell my copy. I got my refund and never stopped there again.

Re: Nintendo Share Value Rebounds Slightly After Recent Drops

JohnBlackstar

I don't want to be a jerk and call people out, but I read a lot of comments from people who have no understanding of how stocks operate. People invest money in these companies to make a quick buck. @rjejr provided the main reasoning behind the stock change. I don't fault any investors who are getting cold feet with Nintendo. The Wii U left a bad taste in investor's mouths and they are concerned if Nintendo can make them the big bucks on the next go round. The people investing big $$$ are not sitting back analyzing if there was A good mix of characters in Smash Bros - they are just out to make money. Seeing a cool console with the hope of amazing Nintendo games headed our way does not get them excited - they want to see retailers making comments about the expect a big first quarter of 2017 because Switch is going to have crazy market penetration.

Re: Guide: Everything We Now Know About the Nintendo Switch

JohnBlackstar

Is anyone here actually going to carry this around with them? How are you going to? Maybe I am just the outlier, but I don't see myself taking this with me on business trips and other places. Perhaps their is thought that it can be used without the joy-cons and then it might be small enough to take with.

Re: Sega Placing "Huge Emphasis On Quality" With Future Sonic Titles

JohnBlackstar

I hope Sega can start making some money again from Sonic to hopefully infuse some of that cash back into making some of their other treasured franchises. I fear that without a console business any longer it makes it less a priority for Sega to make a diverse line up of games. Here is hoping that Phantasy Star Online gets released for NX and comes west!

Re: A Second Culdcept Revolt Nintendo Direct is on the Way in Japan

JohnBlackstar

Hopefully they code this game better than it was on the Xbox 360. The game would make the 360 have slow down and tearing. Nintendo should release a Mario version for the west to get people interested and then release with the Culdcept card deck. The game is amazing. Way better than Fortune Street which they brought over for Wii.

Re: Editorial: Nintendo Did A Solid Job at E3 2016, But That Didn't Ease Long-Term Concerns

JohnBlackstar

It was a grave sign to only see one game announced for Nintendo's next console (perhaps two if you count Zelda). We have less than a year until release so that sends shivers up my spine (in good way and in a bad way based on lack of support). Before the PS4 and XB1 released E3 was dominated by them. There is already love for Zelda so there was no reason to sell the game so much unless they are hoping to clear out the last of the Wii U systems before the NX releases. NX is what they must sell because even hardcoe Nintendo fans are struggling to get on board (not me - day 1 purchase with or without games... I survived Wii U)

Re: Denis Dyack Blames "Unethical" Journalists For Almost Killing Shadow Of The Eternals

JohnBlackstar

I actually took some time to even read through most of the Kotaku article (which scares me that people look to their site for true journalism). Most of these anonymous complaints are hilarious. I've worked in artistic fields (my background is in 3d animation) and I've worked in the white collar business fields (I'm currently an analyst) so I feel my comment is from all perspectives. There is no position or job where you will not run in to people that run projects poorly, are jerks, will belittle you, the list could go on and on. It is part of dealing with the human race even in the workplace. You can either put on your big boy pants and deal with it (as long as they are not doing anything illegal), or you can constantly complain about work. If you choose to work for someone it is your choice if you stay or not in an abusive situation. Some of the meanest, ruthless people I have worked for are some of the smartest people I have ever met, but it is my choice to stay or go. I don't sit there and bad mouth them to journalists, co-workers, etc...

Re: GDC Survey Shows Declining Interest From Developers in Wii U and 3DS

JohnBlackstar

@rjejr I think it is using the percentages to say that out of all the surveyed how many are working on a game for the platform. So theoretically a platform could have had 100% if all surveyed were developing a title for the platform. So out of all the companies surveyed (who knows how many and if any were major publishing houses) only 5% were currently developing a Wii U game. The 3ds number seems off with all the shovelware that is developed for that system.
