Re: Random: Masahiro Sakurai Says He Prefers To Buy Video Games Digitally

Jeaz

I've been all digital for over 10 years and have had no problems at all with it.

Except for online only games that have since shut down, I can play every single digital game I've bought. Backwards compatibility for games is now a standard for everyone except Nintendo, so having the game digitally has meant I can keep playing older games on my newer consoles.
And neither of those two problems are solved by keeping games physical.

Also, I use Remote Play with my PS5 a lot. And that just not sustainable with having to swap discs.

I get it, a shelf with games do look nice. But having been around since the days of NES fidgy cartridges and Amiga floppy disks, I just don't see the charm in actually using any form of physical media today.

Re: Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion Switch Frame Rate & Resolution Detailed

Jeaz

I find the timing of the this game strange, unless they’ve changed things in it.

It is a prequel but as others mention here, it will spoil things for FF7. The problem as I see it, is that with the FF7 Remake a whole new generation is playing through this again but the parts that Crisis Core spoils hasn’t happened yet in FF7 Remake as that happens later in the game.

So I’m thinking there might be some significant changes in either Reunion or Rebirth (2nd part in FF7 Remake)

Re: Video: Switch Online Could Learn A Lot From Xbox Game Pass

@electrolite77 I’m not disagreeing that they are. I’m just asking for a little scrutiny. You know, like journalists are supposed to do. Maybe it’s a bit too much to ask for on a fan-site.

But questions/topics I see far to easily overlooked in discussions about his:
1. Why is Microsoft doing this?
2. Why aren’t others doing the same?
3. Is it profitable for Microsoft?
4. Will pricing remain at current levels?
Now it’s all, “I wish X did the same” without thinking that much about the stuff behind the reasoning of all involved companies.

As a customer it is certainly a good deal at the moment, and will remain like that until prices or content change. Again, maybe I’m asking for too much here, but just wish there’d be a bit more scrutiny from the gaming media.

Re: Activision Blizzard Reaches $18 Million Settlement For Sexual Harassment Lawsuit

Jeaz

@Zuljaras got very little confidence that Blizzard will produce better games under Microsoft. Sure, I do believe all this idiotic sexual misconduct will better controlled under Microsoft, but both of companies they’ve bought are companies that lean heavily into MTX and by looking at how Microsoft’s been dealing with that lately, I don’t think it’ll improve.

Re: Video: Switch Online Could Learn A Lot From Xbox Game Pass

Jeaz

@electrolite77 Of course it’s an agenda from Microsoft. They want the narrative to be how everyone else isn’t offering an inferior service to them.

For sure, everything is about making money, and Microsoft is definitely benefiting from discussions like this, since they know the others won’t be able to directly compete.

Re: Video: Switch Online Could Learn A Lot From Xbox Game Pass

Jeaz

@electrolite77 It’s Microsoft that’s controlling the agenda, through the media.

GamePass is a great offer now. It’s too good, and won’t last. Just like Netflix, they’ll up their pricing once they hit enough subscribers.
Nintendo and Sony will do their own things, and most likely won’t get sucked into this, they can’t afford to, they don’t have a massive alternative revenue stream like Microsoft.

Sony’s new “PS Plus” is rumoured to be unveiled next week, I guess we’ll see what they offer but I’m not expecting a full on GamePass alternative. They’ll improve their PS Now offer (which actually has more games than GamePass, just older ones) but not go all the way and add day one releases of their first party titles.

Re: Video: Switch Online Could Learn A Lot From Xbox Game Pass

Jeaz

GamePass isn’t profitable at current pricing levels. Phil Spector even admit that. So there’s just no logic behind Nintendo going in and offer a similar service.
But Microsoft has to. They struggled to stay relevant last gen and this is the only way they can now. Being Microsoft, they can afford to bleed money into this and then when they’ve got enough hold on the market with GamePass - start increasing the fees.

But they’ve really managed to control the agenda. When even journalists at Nintendo Life can’t see through this, it’s not a big surprise most gamers don’t. So now everyone expects/demands Nintendo and Sony to follow suit.

Re: Chucklefish Hands Over Final Stardew Valley Publishing Responsibilities To Creator

Jeaz

@RubyCarbuncle I get that mobile gaming overall is very disappointing and full of crap games. But there are some gems.
As mentioned here, games like Stardew Valley, Final Fantasy 1-9 and so on are just straight ports with controller support.

But then there are games like FANTASIAN, Stela and The Last Campfire that are all primarily mobile games and are all top notch games.
I highly recommend the Backbone ONE controller that means you aren’t far of a Switch experience. It’s iOS only atm, but an Android version is in the works. I use mine with PS5 Remote Play almost daily and works pretty much flawlessly.

Again, I agree that it’s mostly absolute junk when it comes to mobile games. But not all is bad, and it’s a shame to miss out of some of those gems just due to bias.

Re: Talking Point: How Many Hours Is A 'Short' Game For You?

Jeaz

I think Dread had a perfect length. Still compact enough to have a steady stream of new abilities and items, yet long enough to throw at your a lot of variation.

Also very happy they didn't go for some generated map setup, this carefully designed maps brought a might tighter and cohesive experience.

So as a someone with not 20 hours a day to play a game, too long games tend to end up in the dust bin as they require too much of a commitment.

Re: Soapbox: 10 Reasons Why Metroid Fusion Is The Best Game In The Series

Jeaz

"A great place to start" except the only legal way to get it today is through the Wii U virtual console, so not exactly accessible. I understand the point of Ambassadors program when it first came out, but I mean, it's been 10 years now, they should at least allow ppl to buy them on 3ds. They really want people to use emulators, don't they?

Re: "As You Can See, I'm Not A Switch Player" Admits Epic Games' Tim Sweeney

Jeaz

“The worlds leading portable gaming-only device” fixed that for you.

As nice as the Switch or any console is today, they are completely dwarfed by mobile gaming (some numbers pegs it as 4x as large).

Sure, that we gamers prefer to call “proper games” (myself included) are more based around consoles or computer, but to ignore the size and importance of mobile gaming is just going to make a fool out of yourself.

Re: Soapbox: I'm Tired Of Ports And Remakes - Where Are All Nintendo's New Ideas?

Jeaz

While I do enjoy the remakes, as I didn't own either Wii or Wii U so a good chance to catch up with some oldies, the Switch really do lack a strong 1st party original line-up.

After the insanely strong start with BotW, Odyssey, Xenoblade 2 and so on, it's certainly slowed down tremendously over the last couple of years. And I mean, as much as I look forward to Mario Golf, it wasn't exactly top of my mind when I hoped for a new original game from Nintendo.

Re: Germany Is Considering An 18+ Rating On Video Games With Loot Boxes

Jeaz

@FantasiaWHT I’m not talking about micro transactions in general. I’m fine with that. What’s shameful that gamers accept is that instead of costing say 3 bucks for a skin, it says 300 crystals. And you can only buy 500 crystals for 5 bucks. In any other industry, you were force to “leave” 2 bucks in the sellers no-interest, non-withdrawable bank, they been laughed at and prosecuted. But we gamers are gullible idiots
