Re: Random: Experience The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild With PlayStation VR

@Heavyarms55 you’ve obviously never tried VR as it’s a lot of fun. It’s not a replacement for traditional gaming with TV+controller but a complement. There are two ways VR has a a clear edge of traditional:
1. Immersion - especially in horror games like RE7 or other similar experiences.
2. They offer a new perspective and can create games that just won’t work with TV, like the excellent AstroBot or Ghost Giant.

Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 7.0.0 Adds New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Icons

@JamesJose7 not necessarily true.

There aren’t any fixed rules for version management, while there are plenty of guidelines it’s up each own to decide how to manage versions.
Facebook as an example gives every release a new version meaning they are on version 205 for iOS.

What’s difficult to understand as an outsider is Nintendo’s reasoning behind their numbering. For while I said there’s no universal rules, each development company usually have a policy on this.

I’d say it’s the language support that means this is getting a major release numbering. It’s a quite significant update even if it’s not very relevant for us in the west.

Re: Turns Out The Switch's Wireless NES Controllers Will Work With New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe

@IHateTombs A bit off topic here, but was is exactly so bad with their online service?
It works as advertised, it's cheaper than the PS4/Xbox one comparatives, I've honestly already played more with the included NES games than I've had with 4 years of PS+ games (almost always already owned any decent ones) and it features cloud saves.

Sure, the whole voice chat thing is a bit bonkers. And it also amazes me that Nintendo doesn't sell a headset-adapter separately, because it's actually not that bad with it, but you now have to buy a crappy Splatoon 2 headset to get it.

So, for what it's worth, I find it a lot easier to motivate paying for Nintendos online service than PS+. Neither service is perfect, but not crappy either.

Re: Export Your Smash Bros. Ultimate Replays Quickly, They're Getting Wiped Next Week

Jeaz

@rjejr you've clearly misunderstood their original statement. The text you refer to is regarding patch 1.1, which was a launch day patch and a warning to players buying the boxed version to patch before starting to play.

There was never any promise that this would never happen again. In fact, this is common practice in many games with replays, as the replays require the code from that patch to replay perfectly. As new versions of the game may break that replay (say change a champion ability or a map change), old replays are not compatible.

So if you want to keep some, export as video and everything is handy-dandy.

Re: Reggie: Don't Expect Nintendo Switch Online To "Mirror" The Competition

Jeaz

What frustrates me most about Nintendo’s online efforts isn’t so much how the actual service but how they built the multiplayer parts in their games.

  • it took them 6 months to add online doubles. And Tennis is now the example the others should follow
  • Mario Party lacks any meaningful online coop. The mini games are nice but without the main game it’s very shallow.
  • in Smash you can’t play online coop for easy matchmaking. Instead you are forced to make custom rooms that takes forever to get going.

I mean, playing in local coop is great but today the world is different. Today you play with friends from all over the world and Nintendo hasn’t really caught up with this yet.

Re: Rumour: German Retailer Lists Assassin's Creed Compilation For Nintendo Switch

It's a genre the Switch is desperately lacking in. Besides Zelda, there's not many 3rd person action adventure games.

While native apps are of course preferred, I'd also love to see Odyssey's streaming alternative get a launch outside of Japan. I mean, it's a game we'd never get on the Switch otherwise. And considering how well GeForce NOW works, I don't see why it wouldn't work for Switch as well. (potentially even better considering the lower resolutions)

@SomeWriter13 have tried GeForce NOW or any of the other streaming services already around?
I’ve tried it over 4G and it works ok. In 10 years 5G will be standard, maybe even 6G. And of course fiber expansion.
Eastern Asia, Northern Africa and most of Europe will have the infrastructure to support this, as they are quite close now already. But I can’t say for US given that coal, walls and killing net neutrality seems to be the priority for the current administration.

First of all, a lot can happen in 10 years in the digital world. 10 years ago we barely had smart phones, now they "rule" the world.

De-centralized compute is very unoptimized, and gaming is really the last bastion of where local compute is still a preference.

I'm confident that game streaming will be the standard way play games, maybe even sooner than 10 years. There might be "legacy" support and still install games locally. In Japan this is already fairly common with Resident Evil 7 for the Switch being streamed. Final Fantasy XIII has been around for a few years for iOS and Android.

As for the nay-sayers, why are you comparing the game streaming services that around today with the ones that will be available in 10 years. There's latency and streaming quality problems, sure. But 10 years of improved infrastructure and software those issues may worked out.
