Monolith Soft has been expected to expand on the Xenoblade Chronicles universe for some time now with a third major release and yesterday it was discovered Melia's voice actor Jenna Coleman may have confirmed a new entry during an interview dating back to June.
If her own comments weren't convincing enough, Fanbyte news editor and occasional industry insider Imran Khan has now chimed in with his own information - confirming the game is in development:
"Coleman’s quote has caused rumors to stir over the weekend of a new Xenoblade Chronicles currently in development. According to our sources here, we can indeed confirm that to be the case. Moreover, the game is nearing its final stages of development, but its release date may be held back for any number of reasons."
Khan further explains how the third Xenoblade Chronicles game will be a direct sequel to the second title and shares some details about the story:
"The ending of the trilogy takes place in the far-flung future with a few returning characters who have long-outlived their human counterparts from both Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. This is why Coleman, who plays Melia, would be aware of a third game, as her character is returning and she more than likely has recorded voice acting for it."
The game was supposedly "set to be revealed earlier this year" according to Khan's sources but got delayed due to the pandemic and difficulties optimising the game for the Nintendo Switch:
"The game is aiming for more character models on screen at once than any previous title, accounting for both playable characters and enemies."
The same story from Fanbyte says if "all goes well" the third entry could be released as soon as the first half of next year. Imran Khan has also previously mentioned how the rumoured Metroid Prime Trilogy for Switch has been "long done".

To release as a Switch Pro launch title, no doubt!
@15roundTKO Stop about the Switch Pro, it's not gonna happen
I'd believe it. Xenoblade may not be the best-selling franchise, but it definitely has a growing niche and I'm sure Nintendo didn't intend on XC:DE being the last project. I'd also guess that they'll bring X to Switch in the next year, considering that there's plenty of demand for it and they've basically exhausted all the Wii U games they can port to Switch.
I'm really feeling it!
Removed - trolling
Bleh, I still need to actually start XC2, let alone prepare for a third one. I've had the limited edition since launch, but just cannot get into it. I'm just really not feeling it.
I would like XCX2 if for no other reason than I want a more fleshed out story from Mira.
Lord now I have to play a the 3rd on top of the two I never played, Bring it!
i doubt its xenoblade 3 lets not forget they shown us a picture of their new ip after they xenoblade 2 came out back that they are working on which is supposely be a medieval type rpg game
@Tom-Smo sarcasm, mate
Wasn’t Imran Kahn part of the “Switch pro is real! People have dev kits ready!” crowd? Kind of shoots down the credibility if that is source.
There is also the VA post that started it all, but there have been plenty of times where VA sourced “leaks” turned out to be bogus too.
Regardless a new Xenoblade game is very likely to come out, but that is more on a safe educated guess then of “Leak!”
Just hoping for a XC2 re-issue if this is really true.
The timings for a new monolithsoft project lines up for a reveal soon and then release sometime next year, it's almost certainly gonna be XC3.
The stuff about the voice actor just seems (to me at least) like she doesn't know very much of xenoblade as a franchise other than its ongoing, so her comment really seems like she is just referring to that fact. If what she said is something to do with an upcoming role, it could be something of a cameo at best. I really feel that they wanna stick with new parties and worlds in each mainline game, though we have absolutely no idea what form this new game is taking so it's all up in the air.
Plus Imran Khan seems a bit hit or miss with their predictions, like some have mentioned. All the info we "have" points to literally nothing than a new xenoblade is coming soonish, which was pretty obvious anyway. Though it is exciting to hear that it may be close to wrapping up and a new hype cycle starting for the game. Personally, I can't wait! Bring it!
Whelp, so much for XCX coming sooner than later. Maybe they'll pick up after the numbered trilogy is complete.
The first one is among my favourite JRPGs ever but I couldn't stand 2 because of that blade system. If there is a third one, I'm a little apprehensive of what the battle system may look like. From the rumours, the story sounds super cool and I wanna know more, but the gameplay may stop me in my tracks like with 2.
I mean... MonolithSoft will reveal a new game soon, that's pretty inevitable
Of course Xenoblade 3 is happening soon, Monolith has mentioned multiple times they're working on a new Xenoblade game and an announcement coming soon would make perfect sense given it's been almost 4 years since Xenoblade 2 came out. That being said, none of these sources really mean anything. A voice actress who's not super invested in the series (she admitted she's never played the games herself) said she THINKS a new one is being made, and some guy who's gotten a lot of things wrong in the past says "trust me guys, it's totally happening" to take advantage of the attention from a poorly conducted interview, and now people care? No one seemed to care when we had actual concrete information, I don't get why very vague comments are what matter more these days.
And note that I have no hard feelings against Coleman, I love her work as Melia (if that wasn't obvious). That being said, she has much bigger roles, and I don't blame her for not being invested in a 10 year old video game. Also, if she really was doing voicework for Xenoblade 3, she wouldn't outright talk about it. Voice actors sign NDAs for every professional project they work on, and someone as experienced as her isn't going to be dumb enough to break it for an interview with a tiny YouTube channel. That would be incredibly unprofessional and have a negative impact on her future career. Xenoblade 3 IS coming, anyone following the series could guess that. We don't need to spread rumors from shaky sources to prove it.
I'm sure it will happen, given the games have sold better than Nintendo expected. It'll be interesting to see, though.
I'm more than ready for another Xenoblade game! The 1st one especially is one of my favorite Switch games, though I did enjoy the second one a lot too. The stories are always amazing for Xenoblade games, so I'm not worried there. My only hope is that they don't have annoying blade skills locking progress like in XC2, which stopped me from progressing a few times in that game.
eh, I tried so hard to get into the first one. But I'm happy for fans if a third one comes.
When Imran "the mon" Kahn talks, I listen
So, this can't work for a number of reasons. Mostly has to do with the ending of 2. There's a huge misconception that people keep bringing up that 2 ends with the world merging, when it's not true at all. The worlds don't merge, and it was just Klaus lifting the cloud sea. This rumor suggests that the worlds did merge, and that Xenoblade 1 and 2 characters will both exist.. when they won't.
I do think however that Xenoblade 3 does exist, but it will be like 2, where it's loosely connected, and partially just it's own thing. It'll probably follow the trail left in the manual for a model kit, which said that the conduit traveled to another world.
The latest hoax being pushed by NL?
I can't get behind the combat in any of them. I'd rather they do a new IP personally.
Big hype! Hopefully X2 is in the works too. I NEED a continuation of the story on Mira
@RiasGremory I mean, the "New IP" could just end up being a Xenoblade game, but with a more Fantasy look. Plus, I imagine Monolith is working on multiple projects at once.
Y'know while I'm definitely excited for a new Xenoblade game I actually didn't really want it to be a direct sequel. The only Xenoblade game that really needs a direct sequel would be Xenoblade Chronicles X.
That being said I'm really doubting this rumor because it says it's the last Xenoblade game. Are they really just gonna go straight to Xenoblade 3 and not do anything with Xenoblade X?
@Tom-Smo I'm pretty certain it was a joke.
I want it, but I believe it when I see it.
The last time we heard of actors finishing up a session of voice acting, we got a spin-off instead of a sequel (Age of Calamity).
@Vortexeo I'm moreso doubting it, given that the ending of 2 outright disproves this leak.
@VoidofLight @RiasGremory
It's been confirmed that the only in-development Monolith project approved by Nintendo in recent years is a Xenoblade game (as of 2020). I remember the "New IP" wording in that job listing was a bit questionable, odds are that it was a mistranslation and that they were hiring for Xenoblade 3. No clue if the art in the job listings for that game were connected to the new project or just some art they did to promote the listing (They've used new art featuring Xenoblade 2 characters in more recent listings).
Source: https://xenomira.wordpress.com/2019/06/07/the-tribulations-of-xenosaga-created-xenoblade-harada-breaks-it-down-vol-7-we-asked-takahashi-tetsuya-about-monolith-soft-summary/
"Monolith Soft has sent Nintendo 10+ business proposals for approval over the years, but the only one that has been approved recently was Xenoblade, says Takahashi."
@RiasGremory
This "medieval type rpg" new IP doesn't actually exist. All that artwork exists as recruitment art to get aspiring artists to apply for a job at Monolith Soft. They won't leak new projects via job listings lol.
literally all i care about is if they let us take the guys' shirts off again
If this is true I sure hope it's more along the lines of XC1 and not XC2. Combat wise and character design wise as well.
I've played and finished both XC:DE and XCX, but not Xenoblade Chronicles 2 or the Torna expansion yet. True or not, this rumor may move XC2 up my backlog stack.
@Arawn93 Yeah, there's no one who blows more smoke than Imran Khan, except maybe Emily Rogers. Yet people act like everything they say is just pure fact! The reality is that when you make guesses like "Breath of the Wild will have a sequel" or "a new Mario sports title is coming", that's about as easy a guess as claiming the sun is likely to rise tomorrow.
And if Jenna Coleman is correct (though she seemed unsure and it wouldn't be the first time that a voice actor got called in to record new lines for something they already finished and got confused, thinking it was a new project), Imran Khan definitely seems to be band wagoning to establish some plausible credibility.
@Lyricana The thing people are leaving out of this is that Coleman never said she recorded for a new project. She was talking about recording for Future Connected, the epilogue in Xenoblade Definitive Edition. It's purely a guess on her part, and one that makes sense, which is why it's ridiculous to see all these rumors suddenly make Xenoblade 3 seem legitimate in the eyes of so many people when most dedicated Xenoblade fans knew that, logically, we'd be getting it soon here anyway. Monolith has confirmed they've been working on a new game since 2018 and that the only project they've had approved in recent years is a Xenoblade game, it's not a surprise we'll be seeing it soon.
@VIIIAxel My bets is that the concept art was either a scrapped product, or it's Xenoblade 3, and the world will be more fantasy and medieval than the other two. I genuinely believe 3 has to center around the Conduit in some form though.
I also remember seeing a while back that Monolith wanted to make a M rated game that really pushed the boundaries, but I forgot where that interview was.
@westman98 Many companies post concept art for games that they're making as job listings before the game even gets revealed. Final Fantasy XVI was one occasion in recent memory, where they show the hero standing next to a dragon in front of a city that's on the teaser website.
If pikmin 4 nearing end of development is anything to go by, xc3 should be releasing holiday 2031, eh @rjejr?
@VoidofLight I could definitely see the art being for a more fantasy-focused Xenoblade! I could also see it just being promotional art that was just made to catch attention for the listing rather than actually tying into a project, though I'd certainly love to explore the world that art depicted. I'm sure they'll have it tie into the Conduit (assuming it really is Xenoblade 3 and not another spin-off like X) since that's been a common theme throughout the series since Xenosaga, I'm curious to see where they go next. I don't really see them doing a direct sequel to 1 or 2, though. A standalone story/world with references to the rest of the Xeno series would make more sense as that seems to be what Monolith's going for with the series.
I remember that interview as well! I found a link for it here: https://gamerant.com/xenoblade-developer-m-rated-game-switch/
I wouldn't be surprised if one of the projects they pitched that was shot down was going to be the M-rated game Takahashi had in mind. It's hard to imagine Nintendo putting out anything M-rated, but they've published a number of them in the past, so maybe Takahashi will get his wish one day.
@VoidofLight
I doubt Nintendo and their affiliates are going to leak existing projects via recruitment art.
@westman98 Including it in recruitment art wouldn't be "leaking" it, it'd be an intentional tease of what they're working on to draw in new recruits. The art's vague enough that it doesn't really give anything away about what the project is, the listing itself had more information than the art. (fantasy action game with some sort of online implementation). Including art like that isn't a slip-up, it's intentional.
@VIIIAxel I'd be really interested to see if they'll allow him to make that M rated game one day. I'm just mainly hoping that Xenoblade 3 will take itself a bit more seriously, and will have better combat tutorials compared to 2.
Another thing as well, is I think that the closest we'll get with Xeno 3 is probably just a story that's loosely connected to the original 2, and that's pretty much it. Nothing within the same world as 2 or the same world as the original, and no re-occurring characters outside of things like DLC.
@VIIIAxel
"Maybe "leaking" isn't the best word to use, but yeah, I doubt Nintendo and their affiliates are going to tease existing projects via recruitment art.
@westman98 I feel like they've done it before though, but I could be wrong.
@VoidofLight I'd imagine they've listened to feedback on tutorials since that was a common criticism with 2, so they'll probably work on that. I don't really have any particular hopes for Xenoblade 3 honestly, though the online functionality mentioned in those initial job listings does have me really curious about how that's going to be incorporated. I'd assume it'll be completely optional like how X implemented it, but I had assumed mainline Xenoblade wouldn't have any sort of online.
That would be my guess as well. Loose connection with some little references, but no major tie-ins. Non-canon appearances of past characters in the DLC would be fun, though! I didn't spend as much time with 2's Challenge Mode as I would have liked, but it was cool to see Shulk, Fiora, and Elma return and fight alongside Rex.
@westman98 The job listing itself outright mentions they're working on a new project that's a fantasy action RPG with some sort of online functionality. They're already teasing it in the description of the listing, having some very vague art to go alongside it isn't much of a stretch or giving away too much.
Also, while not recruitment art, there was that artwork Retro gave Reggie when he retired where Reggie covered part of it since he couldn't show whatever was there, but we still got a glimpse of a robot's hand. While a recent interview suggests that may not have been related to a Retro project after all, I still find it suspicious to put in the effort to hide something that's just an inside joke. Not a direct tease, but still something somewhat similar and it led to a LOT of speculation, especially since Retro was in the middle of a very long dry spell.
@VIIIAxel
"The job listing itself outright mentions they're working on a new project that's a fantasy action RPG with some sort of online functionality."
Are we sure this isn't Xenoblade Chronicles 3 that Jenna Coleman/Fanbyte is talking about?
"there was that artwork Retro gave Reggie when he retired where Reggie covered part of it since he couldn't show whatever was there"
From my understanding, that hidden robot is supposed to be an internal mascot for Retro, not a tease to an unreleased or canceled game.
@westman98 It is a new Xenoblade game. As I pointed out, Monolith's Tetsuya Takahashi himself said that they were working on a new project alongside Torna and Xenoblade Definitive Edition back in 2018 and then later said the only recent project they had approval for was a Xenoblade game. My point was that the listing, while not saying it's Xenoblade outright, listed different features/elements of the game that tell more about it than the art itself. The art being tied to the game isn't much of a stretch, especially as it would just be early concept art anyway.
It seems like it is likely just an internal mascot, but my point was more that Nintendo and its affiliates have teased internal things in the past. That was more of an accident than Monolith's listing featuring vague concept art from a new game.
@VoidofLight have to disagree with your statement theres a big chance both worlds did merge into one which most likely they are on different sides of the world which would mean they would have to travel by sea to reach other or other means of transportation.
@VoidofLight XC:DE epilogue seems to hint that a joint of both the XC and XC2 universes could be very possible as at least a crossover event.
This is Japan anyway, even Super Sentai and Kamen Rider have had massive crossovers in the past.
@VIIIAxel we dont know that for sure since they did leak their next project would take place in some type of medieval type world which is a new ip.
@moodycat so your saying they shouldnt have new generation taking over their parents role as the new heroes.
@RiasGremory That quote is directly from an interview with Tetsuya Takahashi, the creator of the Xeno series. It's not a leak or rumor, it's fact. Unless he's lying (and he has no reason to lie), that "New IP" is a Xenoblade game and the job listing was poorly translated. Also, the new project wasn't leaked. It was an intentional job listing featuring art that may or may not be tied to the actual project itself. A leak would be accidental, but the fantasy RPG details and art were both directly from Monolith themselves.
more giant robuts please
@ModdedInkling A xenoblade musou game would make sense if there isn’t one already.
@moodycat The Xenoblade Awakens
Still have not played 1 & 2 even though I own them on Switch.
Will probably end up owning 3 on Switch and not playing it too.
@Arawn93 And wasn't Imran one of those who insisted on the Metroid Prime Trilogy port?
I hate jrpgs but interestingly xenoblade chronicles 2 is one of the best games I have ever played. Completed the dlc as well.
My only issue is they are a huge time commitment - must have played xc2 and dlc for best part of 150 hours !
@RiasGremory It's way more likely that's not the case at all, given how the two worlds are completely different. The reason why people think 2's world merges with the original's is because you just see the ocean. However, that literally means nothing at all, given that there are also oceans on earth as well. The titans becoming land masses could just be giving the characters a place to live, seeing as the titans were their homes originally, and all the land masses on earth were still tainted by those gross humanoid creatures. Not to mention, Shulk's world was just an endless sea with the continents being the remains of the crumbled bionis. Nothing more.
@-Juice- I haven't played through the entirety of Future Connected, but I really haven't seen anything yet that would even hint towards 2 being connected with 1. It just feels like an extension of the original, without much of a point narrative-wise.
Probably a xbcx port
If it's a direct sequel to TWO, then she isn't doing any voice work in it. I think she's confused and talking about the call back she did for the DLC for 1. No way they would use her in a sequel to 2 unless the Nopon Sage just ports Melia over. She is CRAZY expensive thanks to Dr. Who, and it's generally bad form to have the same person voice two different characters in one series, it can cause confusion.
As for the other source ... that's pretty much the same as Japanese Media. The game is close to finished, but the core people working on it are helping Nintendo with other projects so the release date is up in the air.
@VoidofLight
Don't matter if they are connected. The Nopon Sage has an override reality card that he has already used to get people from 1 and X into 2, no reason he couldn't use it to get people from all the games into some different world together. That's the only way Jenna Coleman had any voice work to do.
@HeadPirate Yeah, I think Melia's voice actress just got Definitive Edition confused as Xenoblade 3 or something honestly, since from her comment, she doesn't seem like she keeps up with the series itself.
The leak itself also seems like it's easy to be faked, taking advantage of a common fan misconception about the end of 2, as well as remaining incredibly vague.
However, I do think Xenoblade 3 is being worked on, and is probably going to end up coming out eventually, since it's been 4-5 years since 2 came out, and a small team worked on Definitive edition, hence why they didn't end up remaking Xenoblade, and opted for remastering it instead.
The nopon sage does exist, but I personally can't see him really having a role in a main story of the series. He'd probably be side-content just like in Definitive Edition and 2, and will probably introduce the characters from past games in a non-canon manner.
@moodycat Didn't mention that, due to it being a spoiler, but it ultimately doesn't mean much, given The way Zanza and Klaus work within the game. Klaus isn't a god, and used technology at his disposal, as well as the Conduit in order to atone for his sins. He had no way of talking directly to Zanza, and had no way of interacting with Zanza. The only thing he could really do was hear what he heard, and hear Zanza himself. Zanza was completely disconnected from Klaus though, at least on his end, being a god born of the conduit, and being a god only in the world that the monado itself made. It's safe to assume that Zanza and Klaus couldn't merge the worlds together, given they can't even interact fully with one another, being completely separated. The Conduit also fled from the world at the end of 2, as confirmed by the manual for the one of the model kits in Japan.
@VoidofLight
I mean, I personally know people working on whatever the next Xeno game is. It's codename is "project 1" and they did a big hiring blitz for it a year ago. The original job postings just said "A new game in the Xeno series" when the popped up 4 years ago, so that part isn't in question. We just don't know what it's going to be or how close to done it is.
There is no reason this can't be one of the three Xenogears games that never got made. It's much less likely it's a remake of the other 3, as the rights are with Square, but it could happen. Confirming it's in the blade series would be big.
I never liked Xenoblade Chronicles 1 but I love XCH2 so I love that XCH3 is a sequel to XCH2
@HeadPirate I mean, they could try to make a new xeno game using ideas from the Xenogears saga in a way, and try to work in things from the lore of Blade, given that they already have the Conduit (Zohar), and the theme of mechs being in every game in some shape or form.
I just hope whatever they do, they don't make the story have a terrible tonal whiplash like Xenoblade 2's story.. and they don't just make the characters basic anime tropes. I want something like Torna at the least, which takes itself seriously, and is what 2 should've been story-wise.
Just hope they cut down on the anime this time, with a main character that isn't cardboard
@VoidofLight
Anything possible (except a remake of X, we pretty much know it isn't that). But given Nintendo loves the blades series and has been a LOT more hands on with them over the last 2 years and the fact that Tetsuya Takahashi literally founded the studio because he wanted to make 3 more Xenogears game and Square wouldn't let him, I see a whole new IP as a 1 in a million thing.
@Fazermint Xenoblade has always been somewhat anime-like, but 2 takes it a bit too far, by making all the characters walking stereotypes. Although, to be fair.. 2 was supposed to be more lighthearted.. but still, it just felt off to me compared to Torna and the original game.
@HeadPirate I think they were trying to make new ip's, but then got blocked by Nintendo, who just wants Xeno games for now. The great thing though about Xeno games, is that it's a bit like final fantasy, where they could technically do whatever they want with the series, as long as they have a few series staples, and follow a somewhat basic lore, which is easy for them to retcon or change if need be.
The sources are both a bit dubious. One could say dear Jenna is confusing definitive edition remaster with a new game (as someone pointed out). Also, Imran Khan is a bit dubious a source himself and has a bit of an ego. That's if I remember correctly from my days following him on twitter. However, I too believe XC will have a 3rd game but different from XC 1 & 2. Probably 2023
I liked the first game, but too much was changed for the second one that I couldn't get into it. Also just bugged me that we couldn't change armours...
Was hoping more for XCX2.
And what about the medieval IP they were working on...?
I mean, I love Xenoblade, but I want them to do something else from time to time.
I loved the story, world and characters in XC2, but despite 100+ hours I never enjoyed the combat. Hopefully they improve on it for XC3.
To be honest, I haven't play a single Xenoblade game ever, maybe I'm missing out or something, I sold my Wii u a few years ago so that's why I haven't even attempted to play those on switch. I 'd prefer rumors to a new Kirby game (it's happening too, you know) why no one start rumors on that game?
@the_beaver either Nintendo canned it, or it was actually just a Xeno game.
@Jeaz I hope the system is more just X’s combat system, but improved. X’s system was already just an improved version of the original game’s system.
@Arawn93 He sure was.... it's been like over 30 days since he said that so I'm sure everyone forgot which is why we're seeing this garbage come up again...
@VIIIAxel
The studio is working on two projects right now in Tokyo, based on hiring posts over the last 4 years.
"Project 1" is a new XENO game. That doesn't mean blades, as it could be one of the 3 Xenogears games that were the whole reason the studio was founded in the first place. It's at least 4 years old, and the first job postings were "A new game in the Xeno series". They did a hiring blitz a year ago calling it by it's code name instead.
The creatively named "Project 2" is BOTW2. It was very hush hush in the initial job postings, only saying it would be a Nintendo run project out of the Tokyo office. Newer job postings simple list it as "A new game in the Zelda series", and note that you may be asked to work at both Monolith Soft's and Nintendo's Tokyo office.
The Meguro office, as always, is farmed out work from Nintendo. They have been working on Splatoon and Animal Crossing sense 2017.
No idea what's up at Kyoto. The last job posting looking for any creative talent was for Project X zone, so they are likely just doing post or logic for other projects. It's possible some secret new IP is being developed here, but if so it's being made by a bunch of rookies.
This is my most anticipated game from now on!! I even bought a xenoblade Chronicles X disc yesterday even though I don't have a Wii U (in case they never port it and as the disc version is kind of rare around here)
@VoidofLight That would be such a shame...
“Surprised, Huh. There still a few of us hanging around. Silly humans, all they bring is war, death, and petulance. I am a Blade eater. Some us weren’t going to die that easily. I lived on. I’m sorry but this a fight I can’t back down from”.
Is this hype or is this hype?
Mikhail for the win 🥇 🥇 🥇!!!!!
@HeadPirate According to the interview I linked, Takahashi said it was specifically a Xenoblade game. It's possible they'll end up deciding to change it to something else Xeno, but I personally don't see it being Xenogears since Square still holds the rights as far as we know. I would certainly like to see that happen, I still need to play Xenogears myself but it would be great to see Monolith continue the project that kicked off the Xeno series.
Coleman's comment was of interest, this one is already milking it. And implying that an actress recording a role for a new game "doesn't know if she's allowed to" mention this new game in public? But I suppose the likes of Khan live in a world where NDAs don't exist.
@MS7000 Exactly the same, i've tried twice to get into Xenoblade 2 and bounced hard off it. I still play the original and Chronicles X on my Wii U though, quite enjoy the first 2. Which makes me laugh everytime "insiders" and voice actors say "the second title", because that was X... Not XBC 2.
Loved XC and XC2. Never played XCX (but want to). Can’t wait for an new XC!
@TheBigK Same for me. The combat mechanics of 2 were a boring slow rhythm game. I'd prefer they go back to the more advanced battle palette of XC1.
I’d kill for an XCX2, or even a strong XCX port. Direct sequel to XC2? Pass. It was such a step backwards from both the previous games in every way for me.
Take another crack at it with a brand new story, characters, and please turn the anime dial down.
Ugh, I want a new Xenoblade but I don't want to play through XC2
I hope they make the protagonist a decent character like Shulk. The guy from XBC2 was kind of a whelp.
@NEStalgia Yeah I didn't even bother to click on this 1, it's not even nearing completion, it's rumors of nearing completion. Why not say it's a Switch Pro or Switch 2 exclusive while they're at it? Besides Pikmin 4 I have a Bayonetta 3 pre-order for release in 2018. I think that was the year Beyond Good & Evil 2 was supposed to release as well. Well the second attempt at BG&E2, the first attempt leaked in 2008 or 09.
So no, not placing my pre-order for XC3 just yet.
On a bigger note, how many more years you think the gaming industry will be using covid as an excuse for delays? I feel like in 2025 or 26 Squenix will be saying part 3 of FF7R is delayed b/c of covid. Like Squenix needs an excuse with their history of delays.
You know, XC is now my favorite JRPG of all time. XCX was a great open world experience on Wii U pre BotW but the story was lacking. I watched my son play XC2 and Torna found them lacking. The XC DLC served no purpose, none at all. "Noppon Kids Take a Trip" was fun but meant almost nothing except to tie it to XC2 at the end. I think. So I'm not even sure I'd care about 3. I'd need a story like 1 in the game engine of X but I expect a story like X in the game engine of 2. I'd rather have Xenosaga 4 where we just play as KOSMOS destroying the universe. See Vanquish.
@VIIIAxel doesnt mean its going to be xenoblade 3 cause monolith is allowed to create new ips as well.
@rjejr It's funny how 35 years after every kid in every recess yard had an uncle that worked at Nintendo that "knew things", those same kids are now "adults" on Twitter who have a "insiders" from Nintendo that "know things." Nothing changed except little Timmy is even more of a (can't think of a word that won't be censored) on Twitter now than he was on the sliding board back then.
LOL, to be fair, Japan is just inherently in the 80's so adapting to work at home was nigh impossible for them. So I can accept it from Japanese companies. But Western companies? No. We were promised back in the 90's that the office was dead and everyone would work remotely from farm country and that was the way of the future thanks to technology before the idiotic companies started building campuses in urban centers and went back to the 19th century like they were building locomotive engines in a steel mill. So I don't take it as an excuse from the west at all. If we had our 90's promise, nobody would have even noticed a difference. Japan, though....Miyamoto was in a cube on the main floor until he moved into full time theme parks...
Isn't Pythra just KOSMOS without boob-cannons though?
@VoidofLight like i said im pretty sure both worlds merge into one.
@Vortexeo MonolithSoft literally said they wanted to make xeno 3, but they also wanted to take care of xeno x. So in my opinion, I do think xenoblade x2 will be the one we´re going to see first. Personally I really hope that´s the case. Xenoblade x even though is different in it´s own way, it´s still an special game in my heart. The fact that they introduced skells was just very appealing in many ways. It´s finally time to take that idea to the next level.
@NEStalgia "Isn't Pythra just KOSMOS without boob-cannons though?"
Well sure they're all KOSMOS clones, just like all FF girls are Rinoa clones, but there's only 1 real KOSMOS and only 1 real Rinoa.

@RiasGremory They don’t it’s a fan misconception that they do. It wouldn’t make any sense at all if they merged.
@ISoleilI Can’t see them making an X sequel without porting X itself.. which they aren’t doing, as they confirmed they weren’t a while ago.
@rjejr I thought all FF girls were Aeris clones? Shame Rinoa is a somewhat forgotten character from a somewhat forgotten FF that nobody actually cares about, and the game itself was kind of mediocre
@VoidofLight there are many games that you dont have to play the first entry to know the game itself... They might just do something similiar to xenoblade 2 (brought us xeno 2 first then xenoblade golden country) with xenoblade x port being the prequel if the game succeds.
@VIIIAxel
Square has the rights to the 3 published games. The IP belongs to Takahashi.
And I've seen the interview, and it's a strong indicator. I've just been around long enough to know that hiring posts are better indicators then PR. Games get reskinned, changed late in development, shelved so something else comes first, all that.
When the job posting is for logic or post (coders and graphics, basically) they don't say much. But when you are looking for creative talent, trying to reach out to people with 15+ years experience who can lead a project, you want them to know if they are going to be working on a major IP because it attracts a ton of attention.
So again, I personally think it's a Xenogears game, in fact I think it's a direct sequel to 2 based on an interview Shino Shimoji gave to Japanize media (Pyra's voice actor), at like a 80% chance.
It's just REALLY odd the creative talent postings went from "A xeno game" to "Project 1", so I'm hesitant to say it's a sure thing.
@NEStalgia FF8 being forgotten and mediocre is what allows Squenix to make Rinoa their default model, nobody knows who she is. 😉
This interview was even before XC DE and probably was referring to it. Actress said she didn't know much about series.
I hope new game will be about new folks, old ones got their respective endings in 2 and DE. I hate it when characters pushed into sequels, they always get short end of the stick(look at Eder and Aloth in POE2 it's a disgrace) story wise.
@rjejr LOL. Then why do they make their heroes all Cloud instead of Squall?
FF7: Cloud
FF8: that other dude
FF9: Zidane the monkey-kid
FF10: Younger, ritalin addled Cloud (HA. HA. HA. HA.)
FF12: Generic Cloud
FF13: Girl Cloud
FF15: Even more emo cloud that wears only black.
FF16: ??? Bloody, gritty Cloud feat. Dante from Devil May Cry?
@NEStalgia If these pics weren't numbered you'd be hard pressed to pick out Cloud.

But Cloud had super saiyan hair, all the rest have Squal emo hair, if anything they ARE modeled after Squall, not Cloud. 🤷♀️
@HeadPirate Out of curiosity, do you mean Xenosaga rather than Xenogears? Xenogears was just one game and was made before Monolith had formed as a company (the employees worked at Squaresoft at the time), while Xenosaga was a trilogy of games published by Namco shortly after Monolith first formed. I could see Xenosaga making a return if Monolith does own the IP, the inclusion of KOS-MOS and T-elos on Xenoblade 2 and the continued use of Zohar-like symbolism makes it seem like Monolith wants to return to that world. The main thing making me doubt that is that, from my understanding, they had to rush their plans for the overall Xenosaga story to fit it into 3 games rather than the originally planned 6. Personally, I think the ideal situation would be to start from scratch on Xenosaga so they can remake it with the experience/resources they have now. Might be a bit of a pipe dream as that'd be a huge undertaking, but I'd love to see their full vision for that world!
Also, do you happen to have sources on that interview with Shino Shimoji and to Monolith owning the IP? Not trying to be confrontational or doubt you, just curious because I haven't heard about that first interview and I've also heard mixed things on Monolith owning the IP. I'd like to hear more about any potential future for Xeno!
@VoidofLight not really since klaus most likely wanted both worlds to merge as one as intended with zanza out of the picture and himself as well so the people can rebuild the world as they see fit without gods.
@RiasGremory The thing is, Klaus wasn't involved in the turmoil that the Xenoblade 1 universe was in. He could only hear the events going on, but I doubt he cared much, given it never really effected his world, or his reality that he got stuck in. Meyneth was the one who wanted a world without gods, not Klaus. Klaus just wanted to rebuild earth. That's all. He never even intended to merge the worlds together, and probably never had that in goal. If he did, it would've been stated, and he would've done that way before the events of 2 even occurred.
Xenoblade 2 had absolutely the best Combat and Blade system... I absolutely loved it over XC1DE
@VIIIAxel
Can you read Japanese?
@HeadPirate No. Are there any translations for those interviews? I kinda assumed that was the case. If not, I'll take your word on it, though I am curious about what Pyra's voice actress said.
Why would a game being built for Switch need to be optimised for Switch?
@15roundTKO Heheh, I like you.
I was expecting a new game from them ever since they released that concept art. I'm sure Xenoblade 3 will be that game, since I remember Monolith Soft saying 'Xenoblade' is a way of saying it's a game made by them. It'll be a tough act to follow, but I hope they go beyond their previous entries with this one
@VoidofLight so true, xenoblade 2’s ending disconfirms that the worlds merged, you’re so correct! The leak was deconfirmed by 2’s ending, you are so right!
