Re: Review: Grindstone - A Thrilling And Compelling Puzzle Adventure

Jawessome

@Zaphod42 spot on! I still lament Dungeon Raid and this is the best effort yet that comes close to the fun DR offered without being a mere clone. I don’t have Apple Arcade and after playing Grindstone on Switch, am extremely happy it has found a home here. Easy to play, hard to master. A perfect hallmark of a well made game.

I’m not sure why the author takes issue with the animation? This is literally the design style of Capybara games. Check out the art assets of Super Time Force Ultra if you don’t believe me. It’s another Capy gem.

All I can say is in closing is this game is strongly recommended to everyone.

@Donnerkebab I offer my sincere apologies for not taking the time to submit my thesis on ‘everything wrong with every game company’ to you in a prompt manner. While we’re at it, why don’t we attempt to address world hunger or the factors behind extinction?

I’m hoping it will occur to you I am merely keeping with the theme of the actual news article.

You say “dumping ground”, I say “broadening the aspects of portable gameplay”. Nintendo took what the Vita was desperately trying to accomplish and brought it to the next level while maintaining the price of admission as fairly reasonable if you ask me.

Re: Capcom Caught Up In Cyber Attack, 1TB Of Sensitive Data Allegedly Stolen

@Donnerkebab well in that case I’m pleased to have made your day! Fortunately for Capcom, they aren’t a hardware manufacturer so I would imagine they have the freedom to make more than just stock IP sequels year after year after year..

Megaman 11!? Seriously? Is this Bold & the Beautiful here?

What has been refreshing for Switch owners, Nintendo have embraced third party support more than ever which is why they have been so successful this round. If you’ve been following this site, you’ll be shocked to discover it covers a wide range of titles available on Switch that aren’t just made by Nintendo..

It’s amazing what can happen for a company that decides to stop playing it safe, isn’t it?

Then again, you’d probably find it quite funny. Just like the notion of Capcom deciding to slap an emulator inside a clunky looking arcade joystick setup and charging money for something running an open source piece of software! What a hoot!

Re: Capcom Caught Up In Cyber Attack, 1TB Of Sensitive Data Allegedly Stolen

@nessisonett My poorly worded jab at Capcom aside, out of the five games you’ve just listed, one is a remake and the other are all sequels. I realise the term ‘decent game’ is all down to opinion, but the point I am trying to make is Capcom’s titles lack diversity these days. Perhaps that’s what the industry has boiled down to now? AAA / maximise profits or die?

Re: Jurassic World Evolution: Complete Edition Is Out On Switch Today, Here's The Launch Trailer

Jawessome

I'm an massive JP nut and got the game on PS4. I prefer handheld so I got Evolution on Switch.

Firing the game up on my couch, I was excited to jump in handheld style! The opening scene heading to the first island looked a bit uhh compressed. "No worries I say, they're just saving room for the actual gameplay to look better.."

The game starts and all I could hear was Ian Malcom's voice in my head saying, "Welcome to Blurassic Park.."

This needs a patch.

Re: Vampire: The Masquerade - Shadows of New York Gets A Haunting New Trailer

Jawessome

@JasmineDragon I would strongly recommed Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. Only available on PC but cheap as chips on Steam. Its a third person / first person RPG and its truly something special. Bloodlines 2 is said to release some time this year but I hold reservations about it's quality as it is being made by a totally different team.

Come on Damo - you know as well as I that Powkiddy's systems are emulation devices (you've said so much in your article) and are not marketed in any way to deceive people about what they are buying. If their previous efforts are to be considered, the box this comes in will look nothing like a Switch box. They are as plain as they come.

Retroflag have done similar work with their homebrew Raspberry Pi system shells. I have a GPi Case which is a loving homage to the original DMG Gameboy. It's just that - a homage and nothing more. Nowhere are they advertised or passed off as the real deal.

These things are only sold online and via third party sites like Aliexpress and Banggood. I cant see any "unsuspecting parent" being deceived by what they are getting.

Anyone who is trying to raise the roof of controversy claiming Powkiddy are trying to pass this off as a legit Switch are just scraping the bottom of the barrel. I've been following this site for a while now and this is a bit of a low blow mate.

I can see you're genuine about the tech aspect, you've always been - but let's drop the BS about trying to bait people who don't know any better here. The homebrew emulation scene out of China is massive and their hardware just keeps getting better. Just take a look at the upcoming GPD Win MAX for example. Taki Udon was able to run Xbox 360 and PS3 games almost flawlessly using an eGPU. Its essentially a micro laptop with an 8 inch screen running the second last generation in the palm of your hand!

In the age of FGPA and MiSTeR, this is a technological era to be proud of and to celebrate. These handheld marvels are certainly no exception when it comes to preserving generations of gaming for ages to come and its disappointing to see someone of your technological knowledge and stature reduced to attempting to incite what is essentially schoolboy name calling to the uneducated.

I've called this site home for all my Nintendo news. The only other gaming site I bother with that has a shred of integrity is Eurogamer. Don't let the quality start to slip mate. NL is one of the last bastions of online gaming integrity for a reason. No one wants it to become another IGN.

Keep up the good work regardless.

"Rosh Penin has died" - such a terrible glitch and yet it remains here in this release over a decade later.

Once you start the game, save the very first chance you get as the only way around this glitch is to restart the game over and over until you get past it which means customizing your character and saber.

At one point you'll get to a section where Rosh say's to use your lightsaber to cut down the tree to make a bridge (second tree you cut down), he will then take a force jump and die. Again and again and again..

Some say its the game AI that decides he dies whilst others say if he takes damage from howlers, the fall from the force jump kills him.

Either way - if this happens, you'll need to start again until you get through it.

Apart from that, it's a bloody great game that does lightsaber combat right.

Re: Miyamoto Says The Success Of The Switch Was All Thanks To The "Good Timing" Of Its Release

Jawessome

Nintendo took the potential and strengths of the Vita and PS TV and made them a reality. They did what Sony refused to do and actually MARKET the machine. They told the world its out there, exactly what it does and said it loud.

They had the tech inside that allows the Switch to play proper ports like Doom and The Witcher 3 unlike the Vita which barely played Borderlands 2. They embraced games from all genres and walks of life and don’t seem to be stopping.

I for one am absolutely loving the Switch and Nintendo’s success with it.

Re: Review: Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales - A Superb Addition To The Witcher World

Jawessome

I feel like an absolute moron. Where I love Gwent in the Witcher 3, I simply cant get my head around the style of Gwent here which is also present in the actual Gwent game (mobile and PC) itself.

I am probably way off here but this modern Gwent feels more like a puzzle game as opposed to a game that relies on strategy and partially on chance.

I’m only early on, but there’s a Gwent match where you are trying to quell a pogrom and it seems unless you place the cards exactly how you need to, you will lose every time as you need to kill all the human cards in one round.

Liking everything else about the game it seems I’m either just too dim witted or impatient to ‘get’ the modern Gwent. I just don’t understand it. Some cards attack, others don’t and what’s the point of lanes now?

Anyway - rant over..

Re: Comparing The Witcher Games To The Books Is Like Comparing "Spaghetti Carbonara With A Bicycle", Says Creator

Don't forget - he isn't here to sing and dance for you. Some people are less adept at social graces such as smiling nice for a camera or uttering pleasantries for the sake it of. He doesn't pretend to be someone he isn't and I respect a person for that. We're all human and are all fallible in various areas. He is clearly fallible in his own ways.

Either way, I am grateful he wrote the books otherwise the games wouldn't exist. I am currently up to Lady of the Lake and am really enjoying his work. The games and TV show are great all in their own ways too.

Re: The Witcher Netflix Series Secures A Second Season

Jawessome

@Cartridgemaster you keep mentioning kids which the entire series (be it books or games) isn't aimed at in the least. The world of The Witcher is bleak, violent and doesn't hide its mature themes.

If the series was aimed at children things would be different, but its not - its clearly aimed at adults.

Re: The Witcher Netflix Series Secures A Second Season

Jawessome

@Dirty0814 the games adopt 98% of the core content of the novels and the small amount of differences exist for reasons of developing gameplay. There are very few differences between them that I can think of. One that comes to mind from only having seein the trailer and read previews so far is Geralt's swords. The game uses two swords but the novels only have the one.

Potions and decoctions have been given far more attention in the games for obvious reasons too. In the book for example, when Geralt takes 'cat' prior to a fight with a major character, its not referred to as 'cat' but just as a decoction. Works exactly the same though.

I'm just hoping they really work hard to give the show its own identity and flavour and its not just become another tryhard imitation of fantasy shows that came before it. I heard "the next Game of Thrones" being bandied about and I REALLY hope this didn't come from anyone attached to the show.

Its like comparing a car with a motorbike to be honest.
