Its a crappy trend, but it serves the companies who receive instant gratification, both financially and in sales. It cuts out physical production costs and effectively gives them complete control over who owns the content.
The only benefit to the consumer is effectively convenience. In my opinion, its a high price to pay.
Case in point, Scott Pilgrim: The Game. A delightful side scrollgng brawler which came out in the PS3 / 360 era.
Due to lapsed licensing issues coupled with the fact it never saw a physical release, unless you 'purchased' it digitally, sayonara.
The author of Scott Pilgrim has himself stated he desperately wants to re-release the title but what happens there remains to be seen.
What we need is a platform of sorts that acts like Steam. It can seemlessly install on a console and allow the titles to be purchased.
Legal and software flexibility would be huge, but allowing profits to go back to the license holders could be the incentive they need to allow such a service to come to fruition.
One that does the heavy lifting in the name of preservation.
Here in Australia, TRU is just an overpriced store with no real specialist toys for an older demographic.
By that I mean stuff like NECA and McFarlane et al.
You can pretty much go to any other general store like Target or Kmart and pick up the same toys just cheaper.
The only time TRU came through was back when the PSP launched. They had a strong selection of games and consoles back then and I pre-ordered mine from them.
Apart from that, they dont really offer anything different to be missed in Australia apart from being way more expensive than anyone else for toys you can get anywhere..
@Axlroselm yep. Hyperkin Retron5 lets you insert an SD card to save game progress and also has the option to import english language patches.
If you have a cartridge from whatever you want to play on SD card, you can make play backups of your games on the system via the english language patch exploit.
Have a look on Youtube which explains how it is done.
Again - if you want to play Megadrive backups from SD you need an actual Megadrive cart to be inserted in the system and so on..

Re: Everspace Heads To The Stars (And Straight Onto Nintendo Switch)
@Shiryu this looks right up my alley. Day one purchase for me!
Thx for all the hype
Re: Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 Is Officially Announced, But There's No Switch Version
I enjoyed the Modern Warfare trilogy and the first Black Ops. Lost interest after that. I'd welcome another quality FPS on the Switch though.
Re: Switch Parental Controls App Update Suggests Firmware 5.0.0 Isn't Far Away
So when will Nintendo release a password unlock option seeing as the machine is portable? Even the PS4 has password protection.
This needs to be done yesterday.
Re: Tennis World Tour Is Swinging For Match Point On Nintendo Switch
@Spoony_Tech if this is a quality tennis title, then I will, for one.
As a fan of Smashcourt, Virtua and even the super deformed one on Wii, I welcome this with open arms.
Sure, Tennis Aces is tennis at its core, but that's like saying you dont want Ridge Racer on Switch because MarioKart.
Its a wide genre. I say bring on as many quality sports titles to Switch as possible.

Re: Review: Super Toy Cars (Switch eShop)
Id love for the Switch to have something akin to Forza / Gran Turismo. Would fill a solid niche on the system.
Re: HAMSTER Drops Next Batch Of ACA Neo Geo Titles (And The Mic)
@sword_9mm I agree. It felt like a Streetfighter parody almost. I never got it either. Just weird..
Re: Hyperkin's New SupaBoy Has Superior Coloured Buttons And A 4:3 Screen Option
@Anti-Matter how about European / Australian cartridges?
It would have been perfect if this had a HDMI output. With this revision, it seems to be all the SupaBoy is now missing.
Re: Nintendo Has No Plans For A Switch 2.0, Sources Claim
Nintendo would do well to release revised joy-cons instead. Physical designs suited to fighting games would be fantastic.
There's only so much the standard joy-cons can do in that regard.

Re: Hardware Review: Hyperkin Supa Retron HD: Time To Dust Off Those SNES Carts
@dashv i looked at your video and it seemed fine to me?
Re: Hardware Review: Hyperkin Supa Retron HD: Time To Dust Off Those SNES Carts
@Anti-Matter I was considering one of these until I read issues with the aspect ration being stretched?
Or is that the Supaboy-S or whatever the follow up was?

Re: Panic Button Hints That More Nintendo Switch Ports Are In The Pipeline
@shani can't wait to see what you'll be porting next to the Switch.
Personally I think they did a great job as far as putting a full console game on what is essentially portable hardware.
If you want pixel and FPS perfection, definitely stick with PC.
Re: Review: PAYDAY 2 (Switch)
@sword_9mm Skryrim, Bayonetta and Breath of the Wild say hello.
While I agree its an odd move to port an online centric title to a platform that isnt a full online package just yet, the Switch is far from 'weak'.
If online ever gets stronger, I'd be keen to see how Borderlands would turn out on the Switch. It was very playable on Vita.
Re: Review: Disc Jam (Switch eShop)
@KeeperBvK I agree that this is more of a blurb than a review. Especially when compared side to side with other reviews on this site.
Re: Review: Disc Jam (Switch eShop)
@Fake-E-Lee the review was a little barebones for me so I'm hoping you can answer a few questions.
Re: Review: Sky Force Reloaded (Switch eShop)
All over this. Anniversary on Vita and PS4 gets smashed. Played Reloaded half to death on mobile. It is destined to be on my Switch.
Does this have split joy con play?
Re: Random: There's A Super-Secret Bar In Japan Nintendo's Employees Don't Want You To Find
It should be called Warp Zone. How cool! A real life secret level.
Re: Review: Slain: Back From Hell (Switch eShop)
I totally agree with this review. Although I got Slain on Vita, this is exactly how I felt.
There's difficult because you need to improve or there's difficult because the game elements are poorly designed.
This fits into the latter.
I would recommend Vokgaar the Viking over this which is the former.
Great write up and it shows its not just me who was shaking his head at all the hype when it launched on Sony's machines.
Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 4.1.0 Brings Even More Stability
So when will they give us the option to password lock the system?
As it happens, if my Switch gets stolen, they can use it to their heart's content.
This is a glaring omission I hope gets resolved fast.
Re: Strictly Limited Is Resurrecting A Lost Classic From The Creator Of Wonder Boy On Switch
@tanookisuit couldnt agree more. Great to hear LRG are getting competition. Someone needs to get them honest.
Re: Random: Japan Is Getting Awesome Street Fighter Transformer Toys
@Shantephan agreed. This is awful!
Re: Review: UNO (Switch eShop)
The inability to play locally on one system is a real deal breaker for me. What an utterly wasted (lazy?) opportunity!
No sale. Thanks for the good write up though.
