Re: Tennis World Tour Is Swinging For Match Point On Nintendo Switch

Jawessome

@Spoony_Tech if this is a quality tennis title, then I will, for one.

As a fan of Smashcourt, Virtua and even the super deformed one on Wii, I welcome this with open arms.

Sure, Tennis Aces is tennis at its core, but that's like saying you dont want Ridge Racer on Switch because MarioKart.

Its a wide genre. I say bring on as many quality sports titles to Switch as possible.

Re: Soapbox: I'm Secretly Terrified Of An All-Digital Gaming Future

Its a crappy trend, but it serves the companies who receive instant gratification, both financially and in sales. It cuts out physical production costs and effectively gives them complete control over who owns the content.

The only benefit to the consumer is effectively convenience. In my opinion, its a high price to pay.

Case in point, Scott Pilgrim: The Game. A delightful side scrollgng brawler which came out in the PS3 / 360 era.

Due to lapsed licensing issues coupled with the fact it never saw a physical release, unless you 'purchased' it digitally, sayonara.

The author of Scott Pilgrim has himself stated he desperately wants to re-release the title but what happens there remains to be seen.

What we need is a platform of sorts that acts like Steam. It can seemlessly install on a console and allow the titles to be purchased.

Legal and software flexibility would be huge, but allowing profits to go back to the license holders could be the incentive they need to allow such a service to come to fruition.

One that does the heavy lifting in the name of preservation.

Re: Feature: Remembering Toys R Us, The '90s Gamer's Paradise

Here in Australia, TRU is just an overpriced store with no real specialist toys for an older demographic.

By that I mean stuff like NECA and McFarlane et al.

You can pretty much go to any other general store like Target or Kmart and pick up the same toys just cheaper.

The only time TRU came through was back when the PSP launched. They had a strong selection of games and consoles back then and I pre-ordered mine from them.

Apart from that, they dont really offer anything different to be missed in Australia apart from being way more expensive than anyone else for toys you can get anywhere..

Re: Hardware Review: Hyperkin Supa Retron HD: Time To Dust Off Those SNES Carts

Jawessome

@Axlroselm yep. Hyperkin Retron5 lets you insert an SD card to save game progress and also has the option to import english language patches.

If you have a cartridge from whatever you want to play on SD card, you can make play backups of your games on the system via the english language patch exploit.

Have a look on Youtube which explains how it is done.

Again - if you want to play Megadrive backups from SD you need an actual Megadrive cart to be inserted in the system and so on..

Re: Review: PAYDAY 2 (Switch)

@sword_9mm Skryrim, Bayonetta and Breath of the Wild say hello.

While I agree its an odd move to port an online centric title to a platform that isnt a full online package just yet, the Switch is far from 'weak'.

If online ever gets stronger, I'd be keen to see how Borderlands would turn out on the Switch. It was very playable on Vita.

Re: Review: Disc Jam (Switch eShop)

Jawessome

@Fake-E-Lee the review was a little barebones for me so I'm hoping you can answer a few questions.

  • Is there a single player mode at all? If so, what format does it follow?
  • Being a big Discjammers fan, does this game offer only 1v1 matches or is there a 2v2 option?

Re: Review: Slain: Back From Hell (Switch eShop)

Jawessome

I totally agree with this review. Although I got Slain on Vita, this is exactly how I felt.

There's difficult because you need to improve or there's difficult because the game elements are poorly designed.

This fits into the latter.

I would recommend Vokgaar the Viking over this which is the former.

Great write up and it shows its not just me who was shaking his head at all the hype when it launched on Sony's machines.

Re: Review: UNO (Switch eShop)

The inability to play locally on one system is a real deal breaker for me. What an utterly wasted (lazy?) opportunity!

No sale. Thanks for the good write up though.
