Re: Review: Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered - Bare-Bones, But A Thrilling Nostalgia Trip

Jawessome

I never tried the cartoony versions but owned the 360 version, grabbed the PS3 version a few months ago (as I’m consolidating the 360 collection onto PS3) and now have the Switch version. Being a portable gamer first and foremost these days, its a definitive version. Multiplayer was okay and is personally not a great loss I feel as the story is front and centre the obvious highlight of the package.

It certainly feels like certain aspects of gameplay have been tightened in the remaster. Control feels less floaty and more precise making for a great title to own.

I am so grateful they brought this to current gen consoles. Its essentially the second sequel to the original two films.

Re: Jim Carrey Responds To Sonic The Hedgehog Movie Backlash, Delay And Redesign

Jawessome

@ALinkttPresent I think Mr Carey is relating to expression of design being influenced by outside stakeholders. Warner Bros’ muddled run with the DC films are a prime example of too much meddling messing up a clear direction.

A film is a collaborative effort between many different people who put their own stamp on it. They put their blood, sweat and tears into it. As a result, they feel a certain ownership over it which is natural and deserved.

When outside opinion shapes the direction of something like that, it feels a little bit like a blow and its understandable to take it personally.

Its kind of like if you practiced hard for something and then some of the audience told you it’d be better if it was done their way. You wouldnt feel great about it is all I take his comments to mean.

Re: Guide: How To Fix A Drifting Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Analogue Stick

Jawessome

Both my joycons have drift issues (especially the left stick) and a temporary fix is holding the stick down to make it click and twirling the darn thing around. It seems to move the crud out to stop the drift for a while.

Best thing to do is just book a job with Nintendo and send the darn things in. Opening them up to try and fix them if you don't have experience playing with electronic components may not have the desired result.

Re: Nintendo Moves Switch Manufacturing Out Of China, Two New Models Reportedly In Production

Jawessome

I’d say the new models are a certainty and an announcement this important to Nintendo’s business must be carefully timed. No one can argue the Switch isn’t anything less than a massive success and Nintendo are now taking that momentum and capitulating on the Switch’s position in the industry. There’s really nothing like it (which is why Phil Spencer sees Ninty as an ally more than a direct competitor).

It would make perfect sense to let the games shine at E3 and reserve the hardware for another announcement otherwise its a massive missed opportunity.

I’m thinking the announcement of new hardware will come by the end of the year with new units available in 2020.

The bump to specs will seriously see some magical possibilities come to light. Im sure existing games that are quite demanding now will end up looking and playing better than ever.

As someone who has immense love for their Vita and was gutted when Sony turned their backs on it, its a really exciting time for Nintendo and for the Switch.

Re: Video: Check Out The N64 Game Compatible HDMI Console Made by Hyperkin

Jawessome

Hyperkin have zero of my trust. The Retron5 is essentially illegally using emulation code made by others who stated their work is to be shared freely. The cartridge slot pins are so damn tight they do more bad than good to any carts you insert and take out.

Now this guy is saying he has no real idea how the N64 system will run? Its obvious they’ll rip off N64 emulators and once more profit off someone else’s work. There’s no way these hacks would come remotely close to FPGA on their own any time soon.

How not to run a business right there..

Re: Feature: The Black Shark 2 Is A Phone That Thinks It's A Nintendo Switch

Jawessome

This device is targetting a very niche market here as I can’t imagine there are many ‘serious’ / competitive gamers playing mobile games that demand this sort of spec. The hardware is only as good it’s games and while emulation is a strong point, it’s hardly worth the price of admission as there are far cheaper ways to play Google Play titles and emulators.

Kudos for them making a Ferrari style phone but I cant see many people clamouring to get one at that price point.

Re: The Mortal Kombat Movie Reboot Has Been Given The Greenlight

Jawessome

So let's see:

"The film's central protagonist is new character Cole Turner, a single father and former boxer who is recruited by Jackson "Jax" Bridges to join a team of human fighters and defend the Earth in a extradimensional martial arts tournament against killers from another world. Cole's daughter, Emily, is described as being 12 years old and already a surprising fighter in her own right.

Joining them are classic Mortal Kombat characters Sonya Blade, Kano, Liu Kang and Kung Lao, overseen by the God of Thunder Lord Raiden for their intense training to defend the Earth. Most of the characters retain their respective backgrounds from the fight game series including Liu Kang's ability to generate fireballs and Kung Lao's razor-sharp hat.

James Wan signed on to produce a Mortal Kombat reboot through his production company Atomic Monster with New Line Cinema in 2015. Since then, McQuoid, a prolific Australian commercial director, has signed on to helm the project with Russo signing on to pen the screenplay. No official release date or cast has been announced."

You've got a 12 year old child in the film mentioned to be a great fighter in her own right. Yeah, this will tank quicker than Double Dragon starring Party of Five's Scott Wolf..

I think until they are ready to get up to their elbows in mythos PRIOR to the actual tournament, the story line is best left to the games. Apart from the 1995 film which hasn't aged gracefully, the best representation on film was Mortal Kombat Legacy which had some great ideas (and some really cheesy ones).

Re: One Mortal Kombat 11 Developer Had To See A Therapist After Violent Dreams

Jawessome

The basis behind the entire argument - Is this story true?

Secondly, were people given explicit instructions by superiors to watch snuff, or was it a voluntary action?

I was a fan of the first three Mortal Kombat titles as a kid. When it went 3D, I simply lost interest. I ended up getting Mortal Kombat 9 on the Vita as the idea behind the story was excellent. Revisiting the original titles in one overarching story with a modern shine was a great idea.

I got X on the PS4 but because we only have one TV, I've barely played it as I have little ones about. Mortal Kombat 11 on Switch was the perfect fit for me as being able to play the game portably suited my situation perfectly.

In my line of work, I have come across many instances of persons in various states of - 're-arrangment' for lack of the better term and I must honestly say the Fatal Blows, Brutalities and Fatalities of MK 11 are entirely ludicrous and do not resemble what I've seen IRL whatsoever.

The blood resembles jelly, any attempts at innards are on the cartoony side, and the physics are intentionally made to be completely unrealistic. I have a feeling this is done on purpose so you aren't visibly disturbed by seeing a game resemble someone getting actually mutilated. Boon and co aren't stupid or deprived in this sense. What has improved is the gameplay. The actual fight engine is brilliant and the tutorial is one of the most indepth I've ever seen in a fighting game. Female characters are presented with more respect which is about time.

I see a game that has matured with the times and is embracing fighting mechanics as it's core mainstay. The over the top, unrealistic violence is just that.

Don't get me wrong - if some people do find the stuff in the games distressing, they are by no means wrong or their beliefs invalid. Everyone is different and there's no issue there. I just find it a long stretch that devs would watch real world stuff to inspire the sort of content presented in game that looks (and moves) so unlike it.
