Re: Nintendo's System Specs Have Always Been A "Big Barrier" For Bethesda

Jawessome

@DenDen well yes. That and the fact the system is capable of running certain popular titles completely handheld is worth the price of admission alone.

Game devs are gamers themselves first and foremost. Look at Blizzard. They brought Diablo 3 to Switch because they themselves wanted to play it portably. Obviously without a market, not many companies would be brave enough to undertake such a venture.

Re: Success Of Nintendo's Mini Systems Made It "Perfect Timing" For SNK To Release Its Own Device

Jawessome

Being a massive fan of SNK, I was overjoyed when the mini was revealed and imported a Japanese model.

I was bitterly disappointed by the lack of microswitches in the joysticks on the unit and the control pads.

Sold it a few weeks ago with zero regrets.

No idea why the international version wasn’t coloured like a big red.

A real missed opportunity from SNK and after the debacle of the Neogeo X, you’d think they’d have learned their lesson by now.

Ironically I’m happily emulating their games on my hacked SNES mini now.

Re: Review: Windjammers - One Of The World's Greatest Two-Player Games Finally Comes To Switch

Jawessome

I got this on PS4, Vita and gladly got it for my Switch this morning. One of the best competitive multiplayer titles of all time.

Easy to learn and hard to master.

They have included an Infinite Mode in the game which is a nice touch I don’t recall the PS4 / Vita versions originally having.

The Neogeo CD soundtrack being on offer is a great addition too.

DotEmu have announced a sequel coming next year which I greatly look forward to.

The competitive scene is pretty wild and fun to watch too.

Re: 82% Of Starlink: Battle For Atlas Sales Were On Switch In UK, Only Managed 14th In Charts Debut

Jawessome

I grabbed the Standard Digital edition which is no slouch at $119. Am I enjoying it? Absolutely. Had absolutely no interest in the toy gimmick but I'm really starved for a fun space shooter.

This will tide me over just nicely until Everspace.

I think this would have made a bigger splash if it was Switch exclusive but I'm not Ubisoft so don't really mind either way.

I'll grab Dark Souls when I get paid in a few days too. Windjammers comes out tomorrow which will be mine also!

The Switch is one hell of a games machine. I really wish Borderlands will see a release on it too. Portable perfection!

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Maddening Stance On Retro Gaming Is Driving Me To Piracy

Jawessome

I’ve just hacked my SNES Classic Mini and went to town with SNES roms. I own a Retron 5 and original carts, but the portability factor of the SNES Mini can’t be beat. I can take the system, cables and both controllers in a tiny box to my friend’s house and away we go.

The only better medium I can think of is the Switch. If Nintendo are out of touch with what they should achievably be providing us as far as retro games are concerned, I’ll take the initiative myself.

They are going backwards IMO.

Re: Random: McFarlane Toys Is Releasing Fortnite Action Figures

Jawessome

@AxeltheBuizel if you're a fan of Streetfighter figures, chase up the SOTA Toys (State of the Art Toys) line. They were released 15 years ago and are amazing. I've been hunting around eBay and have secured 8 of them from my favourite characters. Fully articulated, come with interchangeable hands, heads and accessories. Many are still sold boxed (all mine were).

Re: Reggie Says Wii U's Failure Ultimately Led To Success Of The Switch

Jawessome

It will never be mentioned, but the Switch takes Sony's handheld efforts and progresses them to what the PS Vita originally should have been.

I dare say Nintendo studied Sony's failed attempts and took note of what can really make it work. They provided a handheld console that not only has every controller button the regular home consoles have (a feature sadly missing in Vita), but they added PSTV functionality straight off the bat to make it a TV console.

Finally, they addressed the Vita's horsepower woes and made the Switch able to run truly 'home' console games.

My last Nintendo console (excluding the 3DS) was the Wii. I had no interest in a Wii U, but the Switch ticked all the boxes the Vita couldn't and I'm loving the machine for it.

Re: Wireless NES Controllers Won't Work With Other Games On Nintendo Switch

Jawessome

Wow! Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. Nintendo clearly didn’t look at their opposition when it comes to value for money.

How can a console company so successful make these idiotic business decisions these days?

After such a solid launch with Switch, this entire Ninty Online debacle is just that!

Thank goodness for 8bitdo.

Re: Hands On: Streets Of Rage 4 Is A Grand (Upper) Revival

Jawessome

@NinChocolate I agree. The art style is hand drawn and not flash based where a limb basically glides unrealistically from one place to another.

This looks outstanding. Although a pixel version would be pleasing to purists, unlike Wonderboy where old assets were re-used, it would take someone literally pixelating the entire game from scratch which would be a very ambitious prospect..

Re: Victor Vran: Overkill Edition - The Perfect Diablo III Appetiser On Switch

Jawessome

@Nincompoop so without having played the Victor Vran, you've made automatic assumptions saying its a Diablo clone. That must make Sonic a Mario clone too then. Thanks for sharing a completely uninformed opinion on a game.

Got to love it when people make completely uninformed decisions on things.

If you're on the fence about getting VV - don't listen to baseless opinions like this one and get it.

Re: Talking Point: It's September And We Still Don't Know Enough About Nintendo Online

Jawessome

@FatAlbert1 your points are very valid but remember we have to start somewhere. I feel all you talk about will happen for Nintendo, just not straight away. Now they are charging money to use such a service, I feel this is how they are going to be able to pump serious coin into running and maintaining an infrastructure comparable to its rivals including all the same features.

Re: Victor Vran: Overkill Edition Is The Perfect Diablo III Appetiser On Switch

Jawessome

Just picked it up and its great fun. The titular character is voiced by non other than Doug Cockle. It's a joy to listen to him say, well.. anything.

I have only played on handheld mode and visually the game is just fine. I had no issue with tiny text at all. Everything is perfectly clear to my peepers.

What this review completely skipped over was the gameplay. No mention of how costumes affect your play style, nothing about bounty hunter quests, being able to switch weapons on the fly which makes things incredibly dynamic once you unlock a second weapon slot...

This is more a snippet than a review to be honest and there's nothing here that couldn't be gleaned from reading guides.

No offence Jon, but this could certainly use a bit more meat on it. Nothing about the sound, the fully voiced character cutscenes, the types of Demon Powers you can use..
