I absolutely loved the demo. Played on table top mode using the joy-cons and for the most part, it is very enjoyable. I've pre-ordered the game and the drum set is on it's way from Amazon Japan.
This will be the first time I've ever docked my Switch just to play with the drum. Can't wait!
@DenDen well yes. That and the fact the system is capable of running certain popular titles completely handheld is worth the price of admission alone.
Game devs are gamers themselves first and foremost. Look at Blizzard. They brought Diablo 3 to Switch because they themselves wanted to play it portably. Obviously without a market, not many companies would be brave enough to undertake such a venture.
@Nemodius 4 games? What are you talking about? Times it by 10 and that's how many games there are on the unit. The international release has all Metal Slug titles on it while the Japanese release has all the King of Fighters titles on it so you could consider some of those as being duplicates, but it's far from 4 games.
@Alucard83 if the unit had a micro switched joystick, I would have gladly kept it. I can get over the fact it doesn't have an internal battery as I could play it in my bed using a generic USB adaptor. The screen is great too and its size makes it easy to play like a controller (thumbs on top and fingers under the unit).
I grabbed the Standard Digital edition which is no slouch at $119. Am I enjoying it? Absolutely. Had absolutely no interest in the toy gimmick but I'm really starved for a fun space shooter.
This will tide me over just nicely until Everspace.
I think this would have made a bigger splash if it was Switch exclusive but I'm not Ubisoft so don't really mind either way.
I'll grab Dark Souls when I get paid in a few days too. Windjammers comes out tomorrow which will be mine also!
The Switch is one hell of a games machine. I really wish Borderlands will see a release on it too. Portable perfection!
I’ve just hacked my SNES Classic Mini and went to town with SNES roms. I own a Retron 5 and original carts, but the portability factor of the SNES Mini can’t be beat. I can take the system, cables and both controllers in a tiny box to my friend’s house and away we go.
The only better medium I can think of is the Switch. If Nintendo are out of touch with what they should achievably be providing us as far as retro games are concerned, I’ll take the initiative myself.
@AxeltheBuizel if you're a fan of Streetfighter figures, chase up the SOTA Toys (State of the Art Toys) line. They were released 15 years ago and are amazing. I've been hunting around eBay and have secured 8 of them from my favourite characters. Fully articulated, come with interchangeable hands, heads and accessories. Many are still sold boxed (all mine were).
@RadicalThe_Tay I imagine it wouldn't be hard for EA to renew agreements and simply patch the rosters over the original framework of the game. NBA Jam OFE was the pinnacle of the series IMO and I'd kill to see it on Switch and it's current gen brethren.
@Wanjia I'm afraid if you're looking for the NBA Jam experience, you need to go back to playing NBA Jam. This was a horrible parody that doesn't deserve anyone's time.
It will never be mentioned, but the Switch takes Sony's handheld efforts and progresses them to what the PS Vita originally should have been.
I dare say Nintendo studied Sony's failed attempts and took note of what can really make it work. They provided a handheld console that not only has every controller button the regular home consoles have (a feature sadly missing in Vita), but they added PSTV functionality straight off the bat to make it a TV console.
Finally, they addressed the Vita's horsepower woes and made the Switch able to run truly 'home' console games.
My last Nintendo console (excluding the 3DS) was the Wii. I had no interest in a Wii U, but the Switch ticked all the boxes the Vita couldn't and I'm loving the machine for it.
It's the definitive release by the masters of emulation - M2. If you're a purist, definitely don't pass this up. Otherwise if you want bang for your buck, wait for the collection but you'll probably find this rings rings around that version.
@GrailUK having a much desired character in a game hardly forgives it if the gameplay is an utter mess like the first title was. I'd take Jam OFE without Jordan any day of the week.
@Blizzia well said. Really looking forward to this to support SNK and Blade Strangers. I’ve grabbed Spiderman on PS4 but will definitely pick up both fighters for Switch!
@NinChocolate I agree. The art style is hand drawn and not flash based where a limb basically glides unrealistically from one place to another.
This looks outstanding. Although a pixel version would be pleasing to purists, unlike Wonderboy where old assets were re-used, it would take someone literally pixelating the entire game from scratch which would be a very ambitious prospect..
@Nincompoop so without having played the Victor Vran, you've made automatic assumptions saying its a Diablo clone. That must make Sonic a Mario clone too then. Thanks for sharing a completely uninformed opinion on a game.
Got to love it when people make completely uninformed decisions on things.
If you're on the fence about getting VV - don't listen to baseless opinions like this one and get it.
@Nincompoop again - with all due respect, there exist a ton of differences between both dungeon crawlers. Have you honestly played the game or are you refusing to answer my question because you haven't?
@FatAlbert1 your points are very valid but remember we have to start somewhere. I feel all you talk about will happen for Nintendo, just not straight away. Now they are charging money to use such a service, I feel this is how they are going to be able to pump serious coin into running and maintaining an infrastructure comparable to its rivals including all the same features.
I have a feeling (sincerely hope) Nintendo are planning to really surprise us with the launch of online so they are keeping the big stuff close to their chest.
Just picked it up and its great fun. The titular character is voiced by non other than Doug Cockle. It's a joy to listen to him say, well.. anything.
I have only played on handheld mode and visually the game is just fine. I had no issue with tiny text at all. Everything is perfectly clear to my peepers.
What this review completely skipped over was the gameplay. No mention of how costumes affect your play style, nothing about bounty hunter quests, being able to switch weapons on the fly which makes things incredibly dynamic once you unlock a second weapon slot...
This is more a snippet than a review to be honest and there's nothing here that couldn't be gleaned from reading guides.
No offence Jon, but this could certainly use a bit more meat on it. Nothing about the sound, the fully voiced character cutscenes, the types of Demon Powers you can use..

Re: A Garish Neo Geo Mini Christmas Edition Is On The Way With More Games Included
How about you add micro switches to the joystick and correct the HDMI image before rebranding your left over inferior micro consoles SNK?
I honestly expected more from these guys..
Re: Dive Into ABZÛ When It Swims Onto Nintendo Switch At The End Of November

Re: Success Of Nintendo's Mini Systems Made It "Perfect Timing" For SNK To Release Its Own Device
4 x 10 = 40 games. Each unit has 40 games inside it.

Re: Success Of Nintendo's Mini Systems Made It "Perfect Timing" For SNK To Release Its Own Device
Being a massive fan of SNK, I was overjoyed when the mini was revealed and imported a Japanese model.
I was bitterly disappointed by the lack of microswitches in the joysticks on the unit and the control pads.
Sold it a few weeks ago with zero regrets.
No idea why the international version wasn’t coloured like a big red.
A real missed opportunity from SNK and after the debacle of the Neogeo X, you’d think they’d have learned their lesson by now.
Ironically I’m happily emulating their games on my hacked SNES mini now.
Re: Crashlands Is Out On The Switch eShop Next Week, Includes Co-Op Survival Fun
Brilliant game with great humour. Ideal in anyone's Switch collection.
Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 6.1.0 Is Now Available
That’s awful mate. I only ever use the system in handheld mode and havent had any issues since the update personally.
This may mean your joy cons are having hardware issues. I would honestly follow this up with Nintendo.
Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 6.1.0 Is Now Available
@Hyper_Hippy69 what sort of problems?
Re: Mario Kart Tour "Service" Still On Track For Its Mobile Debut
@iammikegaines if only he were running Nintendo..
Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 6.1.0 Is Now Available
@NEStalgia still isnt too big an ask to implement a password lock.
Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 6.1.0 Is Now Available
@JayJ I agree. The entire layout is very basic and lacking to be honest. From the UI to the store itself.
Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 6.1.0 Is Now Available
Seeing as this is a portable unit tied to an online account, where the hell is a simple passcode feature?
As it stands, if someone steals a Switch, it's win win. There is absolutely nothing keeping strangers out of your system.
Re: Review: Windjammers - One Of The World's Greatest Two-Player Games Finally Comes To Switch
I got this on PS4, Vita and gladly got it for my Switch this morning. One of the best competitive multiplayer titles of all time.
Easy to learn and hard to master.
They have included an Infinite Mode in the game which is a nice touch I don’t recall the PS4 / Vita versions originally having.
The Neogeo CD soundtrack being on offer is a great addition too.
DotEmu have announced a sequel coming next year which I greatly look forward to.
The competitive scene is pretty wild and fun to watch too.
Here’s the Windjammers Flying Power League at 2018 EVO: https://youtu.be/Ms4OUHFrjy8

@SBandy not in the literal sense. The games stay at 4:3, but you can change the sides to make the borders simply black if that's what you mean.
Re: Wireless NES Controllers Won't Work With Other Games On Nintendo Switch
Wow! Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. Nintendo clearly didn’t look at their opposition when it comes to value for money.

Thank goodness for 8bitdo.

Re: The Apple Watch Gets A Bit Of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Love
@Silly_G this is the reason smart watches for all their innovation, essentially fall flat.

I’m certainly disappointed with my Apple Watch battery life and rarely wear it now.
