Announced during The Game Awards 2020, Bruce Campbell is returning to the iconic role of Ash Williams and battling dark forces unleashed from the Book of the Dead in a new multiplayer game from Boss Team Games and Saber Interactive.
Evil Dead: The Game puts you in the shoes of chisel-jawed hero and other characters from the franchise, and although they've gone with a nice simple title, the game takes elements from the trilogy of films as well as the more recent small screen revival, Ash vs Evil Dead. An age-protected reveal trailer is available on YouTube which highlights the over-the-shoulder co-op / PvP action you can look forward to, and it's looking slick!
Here are some more details from the official PR blurb:
Work together as a team of four survivors, exploring, looting, crafting, managing your fear, and finding key artifacts to seal the breach between worlds. Or take control of the powerful Kandarian Demon to hunt Ash and his friends while possessing Deadites, the environment, and even the survivors themselves as you seek to swallow their souls!
Plenty of surprises await in this gore-filled battle against evil that captures the characters, horror, humor, and action from the franchise. Battle across memorable locations including the infamous cabin in the woods, brought to life with tons of terrifying visuals and all-new dialogue from Bruce Campbell. Discover more than 25 weapons, including Ash’s Gauntlet, Boomstick, and chainsaw, and advance in a variety of skill trees to grow stronger and survive in this fun co-op and PvP experience.
The franchise, which started with Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead back in 1981, has always been a sweet mix of grotesque horror and over-the-top action, so this has great potential to be a fun and engaging multiplayer romp. Saber Interactive have some great games to their name, too, with Switch versions of Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered and The Witcher 3 under their belt.
Evil Dead: The Game is coming to all consoles and '2021' is the date attached at present, so we'll be keeping a beedy eye peeled for more info in the new year.

Now this is something I can get behind. I hope this has some single player element to it or at least a bot mode to preserve it going into the future!
@Jawessome was thinking the same. I haven’t checked the trailer yet, but I was hoping it was a single player / rpg / survival / action. Sounds more like Left 4 Dead, which isn’t a bad thing and probably fits the universe of Evil Dead better. Just not exactly my cup of tea if it’s multi only.
Hopefully it has crossplay because I don't see this surviving long on Switch without it.
Honestly thought he was annouced for smash just now
As a huge Evil Dead fan who started to give up hope on the game after a few years of silence, this was possibly the biggest reveal of TGA for me, and that says a lot when Sephiroth and Back 4 Blood were also part of the event and I'm also a huge fan of FF/Smash and Left 4 Dead. I'd like to get this on Steam as I find shooters more comfortable there, but if the Switch version performs well, I'd love to get it there for on-the-go play and to help support the game. If it's going the Left 4 Dead route for co-op, I'd assume they'll have bots so it can be played solo.
@Wilforce Friday the 13th has no crossplay and I find a full room of players to play in less than a minute.
I'm looking forward to this for sure!
Really excited for this one. Though still wondering... how come they didn't announce Nier Replicant for the Switch?!
Had high hopes for its Switch announcement.
Can't ask for a better Ash Williams than Bruce Campbell.
oh man this cool. Ash is the best. Sad to say the last I saw of him after the movies was kicking his ass in poker nearly a decade ago. Come back to us buddy
Impressive how fast I went from 'awesome!' to 'meh'.
I really don't care for a multi-only Evil Dead game.. Co-op? Sure, single player? Yup? But this here sounds like what should've been a multiplayer 'mode' and not the main game..
And I'm a massive Evil Dead and Bruce Campbell fan, I still have all three movies on vhs.. as they're meant to be watched (though I don't dare to play them out of fear that they'll get eaten by the machine or the tape will snap)
@Dm9982 Nah, it's pretty much going to be Dead by Daylight/Friday the 13th.
For old times sake.
GROOVEY
Was hoping for something with a deeper story and layered gameplay, not a damn horde shooter/looter.
Ugh.
This was my favorite announcement from the show.
Glad it isn’t exclusive to PS. A YouTube trailer gave me the impression it was.
Hail to the King Baby! I love Bruce Campbell and this franchise. A day 1 purchase for me. I remember the 2nd Evil Dead game on the Xbox being fun. Different genre, but I am all for more ED!
I like that they have incorporated aspects from all films and the TV series.
@Ezus I just came into post 'Ash for Smash'.
Can't wait for this, a Left for Dead style co-op game set in the Evil Dead universe with Bruce Campbell back in his Iconic role - a definite buy for me.
I will probably pick it up on one of the other systems though, as I have a Lite the WiFi can be a bit too temperamental for online shooters.
Pleasant suprise, otherwise the GA2020 was quite boring.
Well hello Mr. fancy pants.
Hail to the king baby!
Hey, it's that guy from Poker Night at the Inventory 2!
Groovy! I'm buying on Day one!
I know this is a non-canonical "what if" sort of spin-off in The Evil Dead franchise but I hope Sam Raimi is working on this game. He would really seal the deal for this game's authenticity.
Big Evil Dead fan here since waaaay back in the day, and I really wish this wasn't a multiplayer game. Not only because I have no friends and my number one partner for multiplayer is 12, but because the Evil Dead, to me at least, is about one guy and one guy only. I can't imagine anyone saying "I want to play Evil Dead, but I don't want to be Ash!"
Hail to the REAL king, baby! Not to that hollow alien-hunting copycat.
I love this series and I think it's often overlooked just how influential it has been on modern cinema. I mean, look at Peter Jackson's entire career. Not just his earlier gory comedies; there are shots in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy that feel directly lifted from Army of Darkness. Many modern filmakers worship Raimi's work in these movies, and with good reason. Evil Dead 2 in particular shouldn't be left out of any conversation about the greatest films of the 80s, whatever the genre.
So more Evil Dead is good in my book, whatever the form it takes. Keep those deadites coming!
I hope this has an actual single player/story mode and isn’t just another Dead by Daylight
I've recently finished listening to his book "If chins could kill" on Audible, it's narrated by Bruce. I highly recommend it
Another surprise. And a good one again.
@Wilforce Dead By Daylight was thriving on Switch for 2 years before it got crossplay - more of us play asymmetric multiplayer than you think!
@Mushvision DBD is cool tho but also I agree
@Jayofmaya those games are super cool tho
I hope there is a single player mode.
Oh, oh no, it's a multiplayer game. Sounds like it's trying to copy the Friday the 13th game, asymmetrical online multiplayer. No thanks. Unless it has a single player story mode, it's gonna be pointless buying this game, because it'll last a month and then the playerbase will dissappear and you won't be able to play the game you bought. Next!
The important part is how much it will cost
I love the Evil Dead trilogy, the tv series, Ash and Bruce Campbell, so count me in!
It’s always bittersweet seeing Bruce Campbell in games as I only know him as the King of Thieves, Brisco County Jr and the narrator for spiderman games. I’d pay a silly amount of money for a comedic theft game with him and cameos from Xena and co.
