Re: Nintendo Has No Plans For A Switch 2.0, Sources Claim

JLPick

5 years is mostly nintendo, with the year before their new console, the older console barely gets any games because of that. It seems the 5 year console life span started to end in the PS1, Genesis and Super NES era...nintendo kind of continued, ended it with the Wii, but their handhelds always lasted more than 5 years...this news is nothing great. Of course there will be a ton of accessories for the Switch...Wii had a ton, most of which are dumb or only had a few games to go with it (balance board, Zapper...etc). I'm glad that the Switch will last for more than 5 years, but I'm also worried that the PS4 and XBONE is on their 5 years mark, which means a new one will be coming from those companies within the next year or so, which also means that the Switch will be very low in power and could jeopardize many companies from moving towards it (even if it continues to sell like hot cakes, the sales will end eventually). I see nintendo making an updated one eventually...especially after the PS5 and the next Xbox comes out, just a year after them.

Re: Tony Hawk Laments The Fact That He Doesn't Own The Pro Skater Brand

JLPick

I have part 5 on PS4, not that great, but not as horrible as people made it out to be. My favorite one is still part 3 on the Gamecube/PS2 era...so much to unlock and it wasn't story-driven like the others became...plus, you can play as Wolverine! Anyways, if they get a new one right, then it could work out. I kind of miss the old ones on the Gamecube era (Tony Hawk, Kelly Slater, Matt Hoffman, Dave Mirra, Whirl Tour, Aggressive Inline, Go Go Hypergrind and Disney Xtreme Skate Adventure).

Re: Video: 9 Mario Games We Wish had Never Existed

JLPick

I think the list should go on...I know this one didn't feature Mario, it instead featured Luigi, but Super Pitfall on the NES was definitely a horrible game...the repeating same tune, the horrible play controls! Maybe next, you'll do a series of the worst games that featured nintendo-licensed characters

Re: Nintendo Believes That The Switch Could Sell Beyond The Usual 5-6 Year Console Life Cycle

JLPick

Um...nintendo...most systems have been around for more than 5 years now, it's been like that for quite a while. PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, even the Wii and DS have lasted for more than the 5-6 year mark, it's just depending on the company and how well the systems continue to sell...if the system starts declining in sales, bring out a new one, but the companies (at least Sony did) will continue to make games for both consoles. The only problem I see with nintendo, is that as soon as their consoles hit the 4 year mark, nintendo technically quits making games for it and focuses their attention onto their new console, granted we may get 1-2 games for the current one...just comes down to the other companies to bring games to it. Other than that, hope the Switch does last for a while, I'm glad to finally walk into a store and see a massive retail section for a nintendo console again (the Wii U's was lacking in this, and looked like the VITA's section...hidden). Glad nintendo is starting to get up to par with the world! Maybe next...a console that can compete and be up to par with the others, like the good old days!

Re: Switch Surpasses Wii U Lifetime Sales in UK, But Its Dominance Isn't As Strong As Elsewhere

JLPick

On a technical note (and my opinion), I really don't care about sales, as long as I play the console. Nintendo is nintendo, and always will be...they're geared towards children and families, and they've had the 'kid-console-only' title since the Super NES days...happened since they took out blood in Mortal Kombat. I thought they were trying to get out of it when BMX XXX was released on Gamecube, PS2 and Xbox...PS2 was the only one to tame that game, while the others kept everything in it...nudity included. I'll admit that I never cared for the Super NES or the N64, went with other companies, but the Wii will be a tough one for nintendo to break the records...Wii was a fast-selling console because it was something newer...granted that motion control-type-games have been around since the 80's in arcades, this was the first console to actually go all the way with it, and made it unique. Switch isn't really unique, except in the fact that it's two systems in one. If Switch got more of the M-rated titles, then it would be a candidate, but the cardboard items coming soon, isn't going to help it get out of the kids only system. It's kind of funny though, because Sony and Microsoft have enough kiddie games, and they never get blamed for it.

Anyways, back to the topic, the sales on the Switch in the UK is pretty good. Not sure what the XBONE is over there, but I'm sure it's doing better and selling more, and who really knows how the system will do for the end of 2018. This news is still relatively early to say it, should wait to see what the sales will be at the end of 2018, when the system is found in more spots and more games are released by companies who were waiting to see the sales.

Re: Guide: The Best Nintendo Switch Micro SD Cards

JLPick

@Angelic_Lapras_King Technically, you could use another companies memory cards in PSP and VITA (I own a Sandisc in each one). The fact is, is that people complain about another company, and when their favorite company does the same thing...it's alright. I'm not a fanboy of either company (actually love both), but it's just something that I notice on this site, is that nintendo never does any wrong. Not to start an argument, but I loved how everyone praised the Wii U, when the Switch came out, everyone started to disrespect the Wii U then. It's just amazing on how much complaining there is on this site, and I honestly hate reading the comments, but when I do, it's all the same thing. Anyways, no matter what, memory cards are expensive, and I really wish they took a different approach (I mean this in Sony and Nintendo's lands). It's just not going to take that long to fill them up and 512GB isn't that much if you get someone that downloads almost everything (I'm not in that category), but some indie games take up 2-5GB, and with constant updates to games...it can be gone really quickly. Found this out with the Vita and PSP, and even with the hard drives that go into the systems themselves. Sometimes I think this is companies ways of getting consumers to buy another system.

Re: Guide: The Best Nintendo Switch Micro SD Cards

JLPick

Not to sound like a troll or anti-nintendo guy or even a Sony fanboy...which I'm sure everyone is going to start complaining about...but isn't it kind of funny of how everyone was always complaining about how expensive the PSP and VITA memory cards were, and here we stand with the same kind of problem with the Switch? These are expensive, and when a virtual store comes into play, especially if Gamecube titles come onto it (just imagine some of the Gamecube games taking up 1-5GB) it's not going to take long to fill them, then you're stuck with paying almost the same price as the console to get a bigger one...especially with some indie games taking up 4GB.

Still never picked up one yet, planning on it for tax returns (since I'm down to 1.5GB left in the console itself), but these are expensive, and I really hope they do an update were you can add better or cheaper cards to it. Still can't get over the fact I paid $100 for an internal hard drive for PS3, another $100 for an 8TB External for PS4 and now something for Switch. Glad that with the 109 games downloaded on the Wii U, I still never had to buy the hard drive for that (considering the only place I could ever find it was Gamestop and it was $80 and hidden behind the counters). Hope nintendo creates a good one that's big enough and cheap enough in price.

Re: Rumour: Get That Pinch Of Salt Ready, Apparently Microsoft Is Preparing To Buy Electronic Arts

JLPick

Even if this became true, it doesn't mean that Madden, FIFA or any of the sports franchise would be MICROSOFT-ONLY. The sports franchises by EA are the money makers, and they'd probably be the ones that would continue on all systems. It would be the others that would become exclusive, the likes of the Sims titles and some of their other franchises, which could help Microsoft, but not much. Microsoft really messed up this generation, and unless they have a lot of exclusives on the way that shine bright, they ended most of their IP's, not even continuing them (seriously, what happened to Fable?). I loved the original Xbox for the exclusives (besides mainly loving more of the Dreamcast titles that flew onto it instead after the Dreamcast ended), but I loved Blinx, Voodoo Vince, Tork, Whacked, Kung Fu Chaos, Project Gotham and Rallisport Challenge. The 360 had some good ones too that I played, Viva PiƱata and more. The X-box One has nothing that I really see that would make it a purchase for me...granted it would change if I didn't own a PS4, but if you own a PS4, there's no reason for it.

Also, I actually enjoyed the new Bubsy game on PS4! And the older ones on the Genesis were good too!

Re: Hands On: The Future Of Gaming Is Cardboard, Thanks To Nintendo Labo

JLPick

@ThanosReXXX Most people never seem to look at the costs of some of the other games that came with peripherals and such...Lego Dimensions was 100, Guitar Hero, DJ Hero, Rock Band, Rock Revolution, Wii Fit and all of the others like them. The price of this isn't even as high as I thought it was, actually fairly low. I would have thought 100, but 60-70 is just the cost of a new game!

Re: Hands On: The Future Of Gaming Is Cardboard, Thanks To Nintendo Labo

JLPick

I have to say...it looks fun and fun to play and the price isn't as high as I was expecting, but...it's cardboard, and eventually it will fall apart and you are left with nothing...especially if it stops getting made quickly. Other than that, kids having this, would definitely be the ones that would rip and break it easily, or even get it wet, and having a $300 console in it and $80 joy cons, can become pretty pricey for parents...however, there's also on where to store it all.

My wife and I will probably pick it up eventually, but there's also that thought of how many gimmicks and peripherals for game systems are left to die after a short time, and all of nintendo's zapper guns were like this, plus the balance board, wii speak and (since people will start complaining that I just mentioned nintendo items...sega's dreamcast microphone, nintendo's microphones from gamecube and N64...the cursed Hey Pikachu game, sony's move, sony's playstation TV and so many others I can mention). Hopefully this takes off, but my only other concern is how many hours will you put into actually playing the games before they become old and repetitive, to where it sits on a shelf for months and years on end. Other than all of this, it still looks fun and a neat idea...would just rather have something plastic instead of cardboard.

Re: Nintendo Is Announcing "A New Way To Play" Later Today

JLPick

They'll announce it, another peripheral that will take up space in people's homes...will have a few games for it then be dropped (much like how the Balance board and every zapper they make for the systems) then they'll announce a date...2020 then Reggie will state 'No Other Information' for the next few years.

Other than that, I'm not expecting much. I'm still not too thrilled about the Switch, as my wife plays it more than what I do (honestly, I never want to play it), and my kids still fiddle with the Wii and Wii U or the PS3 or PS4. Guess I'm not holding my breath for anything grand, just waiting for an announcement of something that's more expensive then what it has to be (sort of like when I become wondering about Playstation's VR Head Set and other companies, saw the price, shook my head with a big 'no', but ended up buying the VR head set anyways and actually enjoy it)...yup, certain companies can get you excited and let you down at the same time, but for some reason, anything Nintendo or Sony does (at least most of them) are pretty fun.

Re: Soapbox: Switch's Rampant Success Is Proof Positive That You Should Never Write Off Nintendo

JLPick

@Euler I still own my PSP, though it's in it's box with the games stored away...just like my original Gameboy and the games for it. Other than that, Sega's Gamegear was to try and take over. During the 16bit war, Sega was on top (Genesis beat out the Super NES sales and was talked about more when I was even in school...being more geared towards older kids...yup, I'm old). Even though many nintendo fans don't want to believe it, Genesis beat it sales wise (at least in the US), but Sega began to ruin themselves with the various add ons and continuing gimmicks that drove them to where they are now. Atari tried their portables (very expensive and no real support), but it was Atari, and after the Jaguar was released (I remembered seeing games marked at $100 or more and the system marked at $600...and that was the early 90's), Atari was long forgotten...basically, people forgot about Atari after the NES arrived and blew everyone's minds away. Sony tried, but I don't think they were trying to dominate. No matter what, nintendo is geared towards younger audiences and families, where Sony gears towards more adults and families (there are many party and family-friendly games, just more Mature and Teen rated). I guess I love both companies and wished that Sega was around too, as I always ending up purchasing anything Nintendo and Sony does (besides the Virtual Boy, Gameboy Girl, PSP Go, Playstation TV)...there's just something about both companies. I'd love to see both work together, as they're two companies that never put each other down (remember when all 3 had magazines, Sony and Nintendo never put another company down and always praised each other, where Microsoft's was just putting down nintendo and Sony throughout each page)...I know Microsoft changed it's attitude now, but back then during the original X-Box, that's all it was.

Re: Soapbox: Switch's Rampant Success Is Proof Positive That You Should Never Write Off Nintendo

JLPick

@Euler There would have been a DS no matter what. In the past, Gameboy followed by Gameboy Pocket, Color and Advance. Gameboy Color came to get the Sega Game Gear's consumers on board (since the Game Gear was the colorized option). The only thing DS did was bring the DSI (The E-Shop) after the PSP was released...but DS was completely different. Sony made their's to feel like a console in your hand, where nintendo did it for the fun factor (which is why nintendo was the smart ones in the portable business). Other than that, there were many companies that tried their hands at handheld consoles in the past and present. Atari had 2 (each one was a big flop and was expensive), Sega had the Gamegear, Sony had the PSP, VITA and PSP GO. I'm sure there will be more that will try it, but the portable is where nintendo strives the most...it's the consoles that they need to approve on if they want to get a big crowd of consumers like Sony and Microsoft have (shouldn't take much to get the Microsoft crowds). I'd still like to see Nintendo and Sony working together, with also partnership from Sega...then all three of my favorite companies could demolish the competition.

Re: Nintendo's Damon Baker Hints At An Even Bigger Year For Switch in 2018

JLPick

Well, if I remember correctly, there were games planned for the Wii U during it's 2nd year, before they were already stopping them, and Nintendo Power themselves even had games listed that never made it...possibly, nintendo has more that they've been working on, possibly even complete, just slowly bringing them out in a timely manner instead of all together.

Kirby and Yoshi could be arriving this year, possibly Metroid Prime 4 and a new Pokemon game. As far as a big year, it would depend on what they announce that will be out this year, and they may leak some during their broadcasts, but I think that their E3 will be showing most of the goodies! It's always seeming that Nintendo and Sony have the best E3 showings, and since these two companies are the bigger and better ones, I'm expecting some good games for the Switch.

My hopes and predictions...Pikmin 4, a new Star Fox, F-Zero and new Eternal Darkness. The Virtual console getting released with massive and various consoles on board for it too, the re-release of more classic Wii U titles, some good IP collections (Mario, Kirby, Wario, Donkey Kong) and possibly a new Animal Crossing title.

Re: Soapbox: Switch's Rampant Success Is Proof Positive That You Should Never Write Off Nintendo

JLPick

@ZeldaToThePast That's something that I wish, especially for the people that ignored the Wii U. Super Mario 3D World, Yoshi's Woolly World, Captain Toad, DK Tropical Freeze and Pikmin 3 would be nice additions...even Nintendo Land would be a nice addition. Sometimes I wish they'd also make a brand new Wii Sports (change the title to Switch Sports or something). Granted, even though it won't happen, I'm waiting for a new Chibi Robo game too...or at least the re-release of the Gamecube one.

Re: Soapbox: Switch's Rampant Success Is Proof Positive That You Should Never Write Off Nintendo

JLPick

It's been handhelds that kept nintendo afloat all this time. The NES was a major hit, but the Super NES was in second place to the Genesis...N64 wasn't the top play competitor, Gamecube was noted as a flop (which I still love that console to death), Wii was a major hit, but how many people continued to purchase games for it? and Wii U was a flop. Switch is a success, but I hear more people (like myself) count it as a portable. As long as nintendo keeps the games flowing, and 3rd parties continue to stay on board, it will be a hit console for them, but it's the next year or so to count it...and I'm sure it will outsell the Xbox One in it's long run, but for some reason, I don't see it outselling the DS or Wii. But, I could be wrong with that. Anyways, the handhelds have kept them alive, and others that have tried to compete with them for that, have failed (Sega's, Atari's and even Sony's). Since the Gameboy (let's forget the Virtual boy and Game Girl scenes), they've had success with handhelds, and during the Wii U's days, the 3DS and Amiibo figures gave them money instead. But, as I've seen with nintendo throughout the years, they usually always have one flop system and then the next is a hit...which I could possibly be looked down on if their next console is a hit as well. I'm a Sony fan now too, and I'd still be a Sega fan if they had their consoles going (still love my Genesis and Dreamcast), but I basically look at the IP's for each company. Nintendo has Mario, Kirby and Pikmin...3 IP's I love. Sony has Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter and more that I love. Sega has Sonic, Toe Jam And Earl, Ristar, Golden Axe and more that I love. If Microsoft kept their game series running each generation (what happened to Viva PiƱata, Blinx, Voodoo Vince, Fable) then I'd have love for them too. I don't see the Switch outselling the PS4 or even the Wii, but I see them making their way back onto the charts. It all comes down to what they do within the next year or two and keep the advertising going and keeping the 3rd parties and indie companies happy. Maybe since they went back to cartridge, they can pop the games out faster and keep a good retail collection on store shelves, not just download-only titles that consumers won't see.

Re: Nintendo Download: 4th January (North America)

JLPick

Eh, nothing on the Switch E-Shop and there was nothing on the Playstation 4 shop. Must be everyone trying to reap the money that's coming in, but it's all good to me, gives some time for newbies to the consoles and ones who have a backlog to catch up. Plus, sales have been excellent on both systems right now, so plenty on the sale side (haven't checked the Switch yet, but PS4's is massive).

Re: Feature: What We Expect From The Inevitable January 2018 Nintendo Direct

JLPick

I'd honestly just like to see more of the Kirby title and Yoshi title that's been in the works since E3. I'd like to know what they will be called and when we can hope to play them! Other than that, the virtual console is the only other thing I'd like to hear about, nothing really else, unless they announce a new F-Zero or Animal Crossing is coming!

Re: Feature: What We Want From Nintendo In 2018

JLPick

Of how I'd look at it, at least with the virtual console, many of nintendo's die-hard-fans, need to realize that not everyone owned a Wii U or 3DS...I own a Wii U, but many only kept the Wii, and not many put it online to download. The Virtual console would be a nice addition finally, putting more than just a few titles per week, but add an extensive amount to where it also won't take away the other E-Shop indies that arrive on the console each week. The Addition of NES, Super NES, N64, GAMECUBE???, Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, DS and possibly 3DS (since it's a handheld console too) would be a great addition, possibly even adding Wii and maybe some of the Wii U titles that have been overlooked.

Another nice addition, would be to re-release many of the Wii U games again...something for the consumers that never picked up the Wii U system. This would also give those games more time to shine and make nintendo some more money again. Pikmin 3, Star Fox Zero, Super Mario Maker, Yoshi's Woolly World, Kirby's Rainbow Curse and Hyrule Warriors would be nice additions, granted we're getting a new Kirby and Yoshi game in the works too.

Another thing, how about some nice game collections if there's no virtual store yet. A nice big Mario, Kirby, Metroid, F-Zero, Pikmin and Donkey Kong collection that has games from all of the past generations of consoles, with some nice additions to them with art work and more...bundled right with a good price and possibly the addition of a new Amiibo with it?

Another thing would be a trophy or achievement to the system itself. Could be in the form of coins (like a Mario Title). I'd like this, because it does give you a reason to continue to re-visit games, especially games that after you beat the first time, you end up putting back on your shelf and forgetting about it.

Other than that, the only other thing that I'd like to see work on is being able to use Mii's in certain games, being able to search on the E-Shop better, better sales in the E-Shop (seriously, 5% off???) and folders added to the home screen so you don't have to continue to look for your titles the long and hard way. Also, work on adding more Amiibo support...seems to be dying out (like the Disney and Skylanders and Dimensions), and it's a nice addition for nintendo, even if (like myself) collects them instead.

Re: The Nintendo Network and eShop Are Back to Life After a Festive Mishap

JLPick

Welcome to the holidays! It's happened to Sony, Microsoft and now Nintendo! It's bad for the people that buy the systems and get them on that day, but it should be taken into account that it's always usually like that around the holidays...especially Christmas at the most! I only had problems connecting, and for the E-Shop loading (took more time than usual). Playstation's store was about the same. No big deal though, had other things to do anyway!

Re: Data East Arcade Titles Are Coming To Switch, Courtesy Of One Of Gaming's Worst Mascots

JLPick

How about the Rampage classics? Also, just out of curiosity, there were a lot of great companies in the past...I've been wondering on what happened to VIRGIN games and why they have never been revisited again...The Mic and Mac titles (Global Gladiators) had great reviews on the NES and GENESIS, granted they were inspired by McDonalds. I'd also like to see the original NES Nightmare On Elm Street and for some reason, the Friday The 13th NES title get put back out. It would also be nice to get the Disney Afternoon collection on Switch (since they originated on the NES, and are out on PS4)...also, how about the Dejavu (8-Bit Adventure Collection that's out on PS4) to be released on the Switch. If this is the only way to get virtual console games from other companies, then so be it. Cap com could also get in on this and finally release the Goonies 2 game.

Re: Review: Yooka-Laylee (Switch eShop)

JLPick

I have to say, I bought this (physical copy) on PS4 when it arrived, and I had lots of hype going into it...platform goodies in the style of Banjo Kazooie...but after playing for a while, I got bored of it. I feel it was definitely a title that should have been released on the N64, but it just didn't thrill me as much as I was hoping, with it now being stuck in my library of games and collecting dust (doesn't help with Knack 2 and Everybody's Golf taking over). As much as I'd like to re-purchase this for the Switch, I'll wait until the price goes down to the $20 mark and for a physical copy...up until then, Mario Odyssey is keeping me entertained enough on the Switch. And as much as I know it won't happen, I'll await for a Banjo Kazooie title or some of the other N64 platform games to arrive on Switch...granted Banjo will never get there.

Re: Mom Hid My Game! Gets a Festive Release on the Switch eShop

JLPick

@Gaisaph This is some of the issues with Sony and Microsoft too...granted that they have a bunch of games in the 'free' category with buy the DLC if you want to...but they also have the mobile games showing up which are either more expensive or a price on a free one on the mobile stores. Hopefully, the Switch starts getting some of the free games from the PS4 and XBONE...I could go with playing Gems Of War on the Switch daily!!! (it's an updated and online only version of Puzzle Quest)

Re: Mom Hid My Game! Gets a Festive Release on the Switch eShop

JLPick

Eh, looks like a game that should cost $1 or be free...kind of a game that you wouldn't show off the E-Shop with, as there is definitely better titles out for it.

Off topic though, I'm still wondering about Golf Story. I haven't bought it, as I didn't like the original Golf games on the NES, Genesis and Super NES, but I'm curious as to if it is actually worth the price they are asking, and if it's actually a decent game or not?

Re: Nintendo Switch Ends 2017 On A High With 2.5 Million Units Sold In Japan Alone

JLPick

@bitleman You aren't looking at to what companies have gone under throughout the years of nintendo...look what happened to RARE when nintendo sold them, or look at many of the companies of the past NES era...also, nintendo used to be a music licensed company too back in the days and was a maker of toys and others...again, they're a megacorp company too who competed with Atari for game consoles too. I'm glad you hate Sony and Microsoft and think nintendo does no wrong, but they are all the same in what they want and do, and no matter what, all the SAME!!!! Great talking with you though, but I'm done responding to just hear you thrash everyone but the company you love! Funny stories though!!!!

Re: Nintendo Switch Ends 2017 On A High With 2.5 Million Units Sold In Japan Alone

JLPick

@HexagonSun VR is pretty good, but just like you said, it's a big investment. I ended up getting through one of those buy here pay here kind of places, where's its monthly installments...just to try it out (in case I didn't like it, return it)...ended up getting VR Worlds and Until Dawn Rush Of Blood for it...the shark encounter was incredible and so was the coaster thrills of Until Dawn. You look anywhere, and there's something there to look at...pretty good in my honest opinion, and as long as you get enough of the good games for it, it's worth the investment. As far as the PS4 goes, there's plenty of great games on their store to play (many freebies too) and lots of genres in the retail scene too. I like the Switch right now, but I'm still waiting for enough on it to pick it up and play it more than just an hour or so per month (again, only have 4 retail and 8 downloads). It'll get played more when Kirby and Yoshi come out. Other than that, I bought the gamecube on day one launch too...however, there wasn't a line which made me feel sad, but they never got the black ones...only purple. The only part I hated was the memory cards were extremely hard to find, and it took me several months to actually find one (wave race and luigi's mansion got boring fast playing the same things over and over again). Gamecube is still my favorite nintendo console, and I'm not sure why. My NES started acting up after too much play and was eventually stolen when my wife and I lived in Florida (along with the PS2, Genesis, N64, PS3, Gamegear, PSP, Dreamcast and Turbo Grafx 16). Trying to get back those consoles and the games I've had are either impossible or too expensive, so kind of gave up on that. Other than that, the PS4 has many of the classic 8-bit titles...just got the Adventure pack that includes Dejavu and got the great Atari classics collections! Hopefully the virtual console comes onto the Switch soon, as we got rid of the Wii for it and got rid of the Wii U a few years ago due to lack of play (by far, would count it as the worst nintendo console...my opinion, but thought the games were raced and ended awfully quick for the prices). Mario Odyssey is great, and for some reason I can't get into the newest Zelda title (guess I still have love for the original and Link's Awakening as my favorites). But I'm like you at being able to sit down and play, not much time. My job doesn't take me away, just with a job, wife and 2x young children, there's no time!! Hope this helps you out with the VR decision! As far as VITA goes, if you have a 3DS, skip the VITA or go and get the PSP instead.

Re: Nintendo Switch Ends 2017 On A High With 2.5 Million Units Sold In Japan Alone

JLPick

@HexagonSun I did interpret wrong...sorry. I agree with you on most parts. The Virtual Boy was a risk, failed, N64 was a big risk (which it did come in second place in the console wars, but was ignored...I hated the controller and I believe that's what drove most people away). The gamecube was a great system (great control), but it was that stupid handle on the back that threw most people away from taking it seriously (besides also the purple color...glad they changed it to black later on). Loved the gamecube though, still my favorite nintendo system (granted the NES was my favorite as a teen (yup, old and Atari was my kiddie system first). Sony took quite a few risks too...(Move, Wonderbook, The Cameras and even the VR)...plus, the cursed price tag on the PS3 that gave them plenty a plunder. Wii U was definitely a flop and for some reason, I never even got into it (games felt rushed and not as glorious as what nintendo could do). Wii was phenomenal...but, all the junk games made it disappear fast, and most of the great games were hidden in the junk ones, but it was fun and ingenious for it's time! Switch, is just a hyped up DS to me, I still count it more as a handheld and for VITA, Sony wanted it to be like a PS3 from the start (just never left it take off at the start, and the expensive memory cards killed it too early). Handhelds have always been nintendo's strengths though...Sega, Atari and Sony could never compete, granted Gamegear and PSP gave them somewhat of a challenge. Right now though, I just hate people that go against either companies. Nintendo has their strengths...their IP's are fun and exciting, and Sony has their strengths...their IP's are also fun and exciting...not really an Xbox fan (original one only), so can't really compare the XBONE with them...but Sega (as I've had the Genesis, Gamegear, 32X and Dreamcast) also had their great IP's. I guess I don't go choosy, as it seems like I've owned every system at one time...except I never owned the Virtual Boy (played it in stores, couldn't take the eye strain) and the Atari Jaguar (too expensive) and XBONE (still don't see a reason). PS1 I hated, PS2 was alright, but I only owned it for the DVD player. Happy with both the PS4 and Switch and even the VR, but don't want to dip anymore.

Sorry if this reply was long!

@SpeedRunRocks It was. Inspired from the classic arcade machines and toys of the past (think laser tag). Atari had something similar on their system, which was a flop. Nintendo had something with theirs, but they always seem to kill it early in their systems (NES, Super NES and Wii). Not to mention of how fast Sony kills those peripherals too, and of how the other companies kill them too. It's a neat feature, but there was always that love of discovering and playing it in classic arcades over the home consoles...besides the lagging wallet of putting quarter after quarter into the machines!

@bitleman Wow. Why is this site full of nothing but 'nintendo does no wrong'. I think you need to open up your own eyes and look at all of nintendo's mistakes and failures. By the way, making fun of Sony doesn't hurt me either. I'm not a fan of neither, I'm a fan of gaming. If you honestly pick one company, then you're that company's fan, picking numerous and catching their weaknesses and strengths is a true fan of gaming.

@HexagonSun Not to start a fight, because it seems like you hate sony, their VR is actually pretty nice compared to many of the others, and is selling very well.

If you also remember, Nintendo and Sony were together with the Super NES, but nintendo (being weird and ignorant) laughed them off, even when Sony announced it would make a console. PS1 outsold the N64...but after Sega quit, they were the two that were competing (which brought many back to the era of Atari battles, then Nintendo and Sega battles...where Genesis won the battle over the Super). PS2 dominated once again (granted I loved the Gamecube better) and Microsoft came into play beating the Gamecube as well. The gamecube controller was tweeted after the befuddled N64 controller. The analog was actually introduced during the Genesis/Super NES era by a 3rd party company, the same company that also introduced a touch pad controller for the Genesis (I forget what the company was). Rumble was actually a feature various game companies had before too...Tiger Electronics had it before nintendo. Sony did copy the Wii remote (God only knows why), but even Nintendo's Zapper gun was a copy from arcades...they were just ones that brought it to a home console. Other than that, every company copies each other...Nintendo is now copying online (and paying for it) and they copied an online store. Nintendo is also copying Microsoft and Sony by going the mobile games. Nintendo lags behind (not really caring about that though), but all 3 have their greatness and weaknesses. They all copy.

@Timppis I agree. The Wii was a hit, he just had trouble selling the Wii U to audiences and had trouble with the 3DS for a year. Other than that, nintendo's had their ups and downs just like every other console. Who was to blame with the Gamecube, the Virtual Boy, the Game Girl...yup, that didn't last long either...and Iwata made money with his decision in the Amiibos. I think he was good too and the president now, still has a lot under his belt, and who knows what nintendo's next system will sell and do! Agree whole heartedly with you on your statement!!!

@Thierry You do realize that nintendo copies off of others too, right? With Sony's VR system doing extremely well, you don't think nintendo will try and copy that too...even if it's in the future? I love nintendo too, but you can't just make them seem that they're the best company over another, when all have their highs and lows about them. Sony has had just as many bad decisions as nintendo...same with Microsoft and Sega and Atari did the same exact thing. Nintendo is doing good in Japan and over here, but it's still got a ways to go in the US to even come close to beating the PS4. And don't forget how the PS2 completely beat the Gamecube...granted I even thought the gamecube was a better console and still chose it over the PS2. I'm not a huge Sony fan either, I hated the PS1 and PS2, but both the Switch and PS4 are great systems and they're both great companies. Just imagine if they both would have stayed together...the machine and the games...both would have dominated everything else!!!!

I'm glad the Switch is doing well. As for the Sony haters, why? Who cares what one is doing compared to the other. I'm glad for owning both systems, as they both have their goods and bads! Other than that, and back to the article, as long as nintendo keeps up with the demands and they continue with the game launches next year (as what they've done this year...and I'm talking about the retail scene), then the Switch should become like the Wii (hopefully without all of the junk games coming for it). Again, in my opinion, it means putting the games onto the retail shelves though, so it doesn't look empty! Seems to be doing a good job right now, so keep it up nintendo, and keep up with the advertising too, don't stop after a year or so!

Re: Yooka-Laylee's Nintendo Switch eShop Price Is Revealed

JLPick

Eh, I paid $40 for the physical on PS4, so it's still not that bad, but I'll be waiting for the physical on Switch. Other than that, this is the kind of stuff that hurt other companies on the Wii U...many of those games that got released on Wii U that were already released on Ps3 and 360 (which the last two already dropped down in price). There is a difference in the Switch releases though...you can play them on the 'go' which gives a better scenario. Other than that, let's hope many companies re-releasing the games that already appeared on the other consoles, don't follow the same price tags.

Re: Random: Mother Orders Nintendo Switch From Amazon, Gets Box Of Washing Powder Instead

JLPick

It is sad and disappointing, but Amazon needs to investigate, which they can as long as they know the serial number of the unit (especially when the thief turns it on and onto the internet). Other than that, I can also see why the lady won't get another one from Amazon...since there are also too many liars in the world, and I'm sure some people would try something similar to get a second one to sell. It's bad for the honest people in the world, but you have to keep that in mind too.

Other than that, I've still been seeing Switch's in stores...kind of funny, because if I didn't own one, I'd probably never see it, but it seems that certain stores have been sitting with quite a few, and that's even after black friday. The games have been harder to find for it, and I'd love to see sales figures from both Nintendo and Sony to see if my two favorite companies are doing good!!!

Re: Review: Snow Moto Racing Freedom (Switch)

Guess I'll leave a comment, as I first clicked into this article thinking I was clicking into a game I could purchase...I'll go with what others mentioned...where's a new 1080 or Wave Race title...been since Gamecube. Also, I'm still waiting for a decent snowboarding, surfing, Virtua Tennis newbies and for Nintendo to bring back some of their sports franchise...hello NBA Court Side??? With every other company trying to bring back the old mascots (Bubsy, Wonder Boy) and bringing back the old franchises that were left behind generations ago, why can't nintendo get on this band wagon too and try them again...Faxanandu, Wrecking Crew, Ice Climber, Balloon Fight, Startropics

Re: Nintendo Download: 30th November (North America)

JLPick

Out of context...anyone know when a virtual console will eventually come to the Switch?

Other than that, not too excited for what's being available, and can't believe that 3DS was not even mentioned on this list (guess the final month is approaching for it...at least by nintendo). Other than that, still playing a few on the Switch and still have a heft backlog of games for the PS4...with many to get, so not too concerned at the moment...just anxiously awaiting to see when Yoshi and Kirby will be arriving for Switch next year!!!!

Re: Wii U's Failure Is Responsible For Switch's Success, Says Reggie

JLPick

Nintendo has had this kind of history...some consoles are huge (NES, Wii, DS and now Switch) and others aren't (Virtual Boy, Gamecube, Wii U). The gamecube was rated as a bad console by many, but (and I had all 3 in that generation) it was my most played. I loved the controller and there were so many new IP's from nintendo themselves (Animal Crossing, Chibi Robo, Custom Robo, Odama, Pikmin). Wii U was a console that I didn't really seem to follow before launch...it just didn't seem amazing like their other systems...even after reading about it in nintendo power. I still have no care of trading it in at this time (Super Mario 3D World was the only game I really played). Switch is fun, but it's still got a ways to go for me to play in constantly. I use it as a portable more, and I feel that it's not only their new console...but I feel that it's their new portable more or less! The E-Shop is being flooded with great games finally...granted most of them have already been released on PS4 and XBONE a few years ago, but it's catching up and showing that the demand is there.

With Reggie stating that they learned their mistakes, they really truly haven't. The only commercials I see are for NINTENDO-ONLY games...meaning they still don't really care about the 3rd party support. Doom would be a good game to advertise for Switch (before PS4 or XBONE does) and even Elder's Scrolls V would be a good one to advertise (more than just a quick Switch variety video clip). I'm glad that they've learned with the filling in the drought months, but who knows how long that will continue. So far, in 2018 we only know about Kirby, Yoshi and Metroid Prime 4 being released. What I'd love, and it's a good way to fill game month slots, is some good collections for the system...A nice Mario game collection, Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong (the original 3 countries in one package), an NES Classic's Collection filled with some great titles from the 8-bit days, Super NES Classics Collection, N64 classics, and Gamecube classics remastered (How about bringing back Eternal Darkness since they apparently bought the rights from Silicon Knights). Also, when will the E-Shop finally get the Virtual Console library? And it was said that the PAYING online subscription would be started a few months in of the system's launch...now, there's still no word about it. As far as Apps for the system goes, it's not a big deal, but since you can take it on the 'go', Netflix would be a good one for people that own the system (myself included).

Anyways, Kirby and Yoshi are enough to keep me seeing what's ahead (patiently waiting for the release dates for both), but I honestly hope, besides some of the nice collections that I mentioned above, some other titles get a refresh...Animal Crossing, Pikmin...possibly Chibi Robo getting re-released???

Also, if they want to bring some of the Wii U titles over to the system, I'll be fine with that...just make sure Captain Toad, Super Mario 3D World, the 2x Zelda titles and Star Fox are the ones brought over!!!!

Re: Poll: Which is the Best Super Mario Game?

JLPick

I know I'm old, as I was a kid when Atari came out, but so far, Super Mario Bros 3 is and always will be my favorite. With the secrets, the flying ships, the bowser kids, the 2-player addition and the new map with fun little mini side games added, it just set the bar for the future of Mario, and so much was pushed into that 8-bit cartridge! Plus, there was the love for the commercials and the McDonald's toys that came with it!!!! However, Super Mario Land 2 should also be on the list, as that was one that really pushed the Gameboy into a great Mario Adventure!!!!
