The system is selling, and the demand is high, which shows that the system will be around...but the Wii was a hot system too, which then fell short of people owning it for one game, and stores were overwhelmed later on with new Wii's, used Wii's and loads of games...which are still everywhere. Nintendo needs to get more out, that's a given, and they need to continue the advertising, but the advertising shouldn't just be their own games. They're taking their time with the E-shop of adding the virtual console library, and that depends on them...will it be more of the same, of just one game per week, or will there be more, and will it be the same games that are already out in the Wii store and Wii U store? The only other thing that is a concern to me, and it could change by E3 with plenty of announcements, is the lack of games that are actually coming to the system by the holiday...it's really not many, and if you even looked at XBONE and PS4, after they launched, it was only a few months later that the games started stocking up in the retail and download side...so, as I stated before, there could be more coming and more announcements, but how many of them will be coming for this year and not the following.
Once nintendo meets demands, and the system can stay on store shelves for more than a day, then the real outlook will happen on if it will continue to be a success, or if it will just be a short phase like Miitomo and some other mobile games and systems. Even PS4 is having trouble meeting demands with the VR, and it's making me wonder if I should even purchase that...and I'm still not convinced to purchase a Switch for just Zelda and the upcoming Mario Odyssey (seriously, I'm not even thinking the others are great at all, and I never played the original Splatoon and have no means to want to). If they have a good E3, and showcase plenty of goods that are coming to it (not just show off the E-Shop releases and Virtual Console releases)...especially if they surprise many with various titles (Metroid, animal Crossing, Pokemon), then they shouldn't have a problem with standing in good shape for another year or so...but, to ask the question on whether or not it will be a success, is too soon...technically, you can't really answer that until it's final year...even the PS4 could outsell the PS2 (Which the PS2 is the highest selling system, Wii being second), but it's still hard to tell. It is great to see nintendo back into good standings, but will the 3rd parties stick around for it???
Wow...what is going on with the 3DS virtual console? Barely any super NES titles and the NES titles have even stopped, and there are plenty of great original Gameboy games that they could add too. Also, is anyone else surprised that Stardew Valley never came to the 3DS...would be a great game to have on it with the touchscreen controls!!!! Love it on PS4, and planning on purchasing it retail on PS4...and re-purchasing it on Switch (once I finally get a Switch that is).
To myself, this is still not a reason to fork over the amount of money to get the system yet, but I have hopes in E3 with more announcements on the way, and have hopes that the virtual console side of the E-Shop will soon be available with goodies that haven't been on the Wii/3DS and Wii U over and over again. So far, I still only see 3 games that would get me to even get the system (Zelda, Snipperclips and Mario Odyssey) and the later isn't even out yet. If Animal Crossing is coming, and some other goodies (Pikmin), then I'll decide on if I will purchase it, but after the fiascle and disappointment I had with the Wii U, and the fact that even with the 3DS (in the fact of the 3DS barely having many games coming out throughout the last few years...there's been some goodies, but without nintendo, a vast drought each year). If 3rd parties are still on board within the next few years of the console, and the price of the console and accessories go down (or at least a nice bundle by the holidays), then I'll purchase the system...up until then, the PS4 is keeping myself, wife and kids extremely happy, and the Gamecube is still hooked up getting much play.
@retro_player_22 I like your list, but I don't see them announcing over half of that...and glad you picked Geist...a good game that was under appreciated. However, for Geist, it didn't sell well, and I don't think nintendo will try it again. Eternal Darkness (a re-release) will probably be a little difficult for them at the moment, but if they announce Gamecube titles coming to the E-Shop, then maybe.
The thing I really don't want to see them do at E3 is cover nothing but indie-download titles and talk about the Virtual Console coming over to the Switch...it's fine to announce a little, but they should talk about games coming on the retail side, not virtual console...maybe close the show with 'Oh, Gamecube is coming to the Virtual Console on such and such a day'.
If I remember reading somewhere...not sure if it was here or Pushsquare...Sony has a huge amount of space set aside for E3 with nintendo coming in second with space. If that is actually true and the case, both of the companies should be sitting good. The only thing that makes me worried is Microsoft, and whether or not they are just going to announce that they are in the makes of a new console already, or that there is not much coming out for it (mine's been sitting for a while awaiting Cup Head to come out).
Great news for nintendo though, as long as they don't let people down...I'm hoping for a new Animal Crossing and some other goodies, to actually get me to want to buy a Switch this holiday, instead of waiting for games to come out for it, that aren't coming out on PS4 or already came out on PS4...the only games getting me to wanting the Switch at the moment are Zelda, Mario Kart and the upcoming Mario Odyssey...not a lot at the moment, especially when I'm stocking up on 3DS games at the moment, and still grabbing PS4 titles, and still playing the Gamecube. I'm ready nintendo...show me something good!!!
@Jessica286 Yup. Even when I bought my PS3, there wasn't many games out for it...it was play a few, go back to the systems of the past...same thing when I got the PS4...wait for the games, play the PS3 for a while longer. The same thing will go for the Switch (when I get one, there will be a bigger category of games to get for it), but for ones that own it right now, play the Wii U (if they have it) or play their other consoles until more comes out. No matter what, the first year of any new console doesn't have much out for it...it's still new, which means the company will be creating updates for it and other companies (while trying to figure out every nook and cranny) will be just starting to create games for it. When the system is a year old, games will be out for it, and many more will be coming. I got the PS4 at launch, not many out and it took quite some time for things to come out for it...now...tons and tons of games at the retail side and digital side, and it hasn't let me down, even with me barely touching the PS3. I sold my Wii U, and sold the Wii when I bought the Wii U for games for that...but I own the 3DS to tide me over until we buy the Switch (and I still have the Gamecube (my favorite nintendo console) and the N64 and NES), so no big rush to buy another nintendo console right now, until I see more out, and trust me, Super Mario Odyssey is my upcoming game of choice for it...granted I'm a big Zelda fan, Zelda is not the only game I want to play for months before something else comes out. But, yeah, people are impatient anymore and expect too many games to flood the scene instead of waiting, not realizing that if companies release too many at the same time, they have risks of their games being lost (which ruptures their sales) and could 'flop' a game, making them lose money...even if the game hits sales in a year or so later, it's still not good at the time it releases, and some people don't see that.
@Spiders You got me...more retail releases that showcase that the system has many titles. When the Wii U was in stores (I worked retail at the time), it was hard to show the system off to people...very little games to show them, and many thought it was either new or a flop...especially if they looked at years on the back of the cases...and it was hard to explain to many about downloads through the E-Shop...many look at the retail titles in boxes on the stores, which is kind-of-what killed the Wii U...especially if they looked over at Wii (thousands of titles to choose from), 3DS (many titles), DS (many titles), PS3 and PS4 (many titles) and even 360 and XBONE...Wii U just looked small, and even the local Game stores around me (Gamestop, Elite Games, Toys R Us and Best Buy...and even Walmart and target) had the Wii U titles and systems buried in Wii and other consoles...Toys R Us even stopped carrying anything for the Wii U altogether (except for Remotes and Nunchucks, because they still had Wii titles there). It was a shame, but that's why I hope the Switch has a heft amount of retail releases, to at least shine by the system (even if many aren't good)...in other words for my past statements...the more the merrier for many people.
Well, still no want for me to run out and purchase a Switch at the moment...guess I'll still continue and wait and see what comes onto the E-Shop and Virtual Console, and until I purchase one (probably during the holiday or tax-return year of 2018), I'll keep watching for games (as of right now, Snipperclips, Zelda, Mario Kart 8 and the upcoming Mario Odyssey are the only ones I'd get it for). Hopefully nintendo shows off more good games (hoping for Animal Crossing and a new Kirby platform) and some good games added to the virtual console, to get me excited for the console.
@cra1g0s Sony did it with the PS4...there are many PS3 games that came over to it, and if you look at both XBONE and PS4, many retro-classics are coming over to them as well (even happened with many on Wii U)...but I get what you mean though, and I argued this on Pushsquare with the PS4 getting way too many ports...if you had the previous console, it's not fun having to dip into the same game again at an expensive price point. Granted that many people didn't buy the Wii U...and many PS4 owners didn't buy a PS3...it's kind of a good thing for them that dipped into the new consoles. And for some odd reason, I did buy the Uncharted bundle and Last Of Us on PS4 (when I already owned all on PS3). At least nintendo added a little bit more to Mario Kart 8, but I get what you mean about the 'bringing Wii U games over'...plus, Lego City Undercover is also coming to the other consoles too (just nintendo gets to keep the nintendo-easter-eggs though), so it's nice to see the good game get a re-do, and hopefully then it sells more and gets a sequel to it.
@Jessica286 What people need to realize, is that there are a few months with any console's release, that it is slow at first. PS4 had it, with only a few games coming out here and there, before the exclusives and tons of games started pouring out for it...retail and digital. Switch will get up there, just going to take close to the end of summer, and once the sales keep rising (without a big slump), more parties will be on board and create more...plus, they could be holding off on showing anything until E3, and there's no telling what nintendo is working on (hopefully a new Animal Crossing title).
@rjejr I kind of thought about the sales for March, which technically, wasn't that bad of a time period...summer vacations are going to be coming, kids get (for some reason) expensive gifts for Easter, and adults (like myself) get tax returns. Other than that, they could have done a little better during the holiday period, but it's hard to say, with Sony and Microsoft having more varieties...at least it somewhat gives nintendo a chance to catch up in the retail scene for the holidays.
@Spiders Nope...retail exclusives, which is something Wii, Gamecube and N64 had loads of from other parties...Super Monkey Ball, Viewtiful Joe, Billy Hatcher, Battletanks, Rocket Robot On Wheels, Goemon's Great Adventure, Mischief Makers, Munchables, Cursed Mountain...list goes on, but now you see what I was talking about...just more retail games on store shelves, that aren't just games that you can also find on PS4 and XBONE...games that a parent like myself would see for the system, that could help sales of the system go up. If I didn't look into the various consoles, and went to a store to purchase one (considering that all three are the same prices), I'd see more games for the others (exclusives included, because there is a massive number of exclusives for PS4, a small percentage for XBONE...and by the holiday, enough for Switch), and would pick up the other system instead. I know what you're saying though (I think)...the ones that only have one console, like a Switch only, would like to play the games that are available around the consoles, but for others that own one of the others and a Switch (don't have a Switch yet, but still thinking about it), we'd want more than just the nintendo-only titles. Guess I'd still love to see a new Monkey Ball, since the last one was on VITA (That version came after the 3DS version)...and I'd love to see some others make a comeback too. Other than that, the Wii U was hurt because most of the games were E-Shop Downloads, which you don't see what's on there, unless you buy the system itself...Wii U (the retail scene) looked pathetic, and nintendo themselves, didn't even help to keep the store shelves stocked (Pikmin 3, Zelda Wind Waker and some others disappeared for over a year, before the 'Selects' scene came into play).
Eh, there were many that stated that the 3DS was not as powerful as a Wii...which the 3DS had Wii titles ported to it with more added (Xenoblade Chronicles for one). 3DS even shows it can hold almost a whole Wii U title (Mario Maker and Wooly World with some features left out and HD not a part of it). For Switch, it was apparent that it wouldn't be as powerful as the XBONE or come close to the PS4, but it doesn't mean that the games won't still be good. I own a PS4, and there's certain games on it, that if they come over to Switch, I'll purchase again, not caring about the graphics or how powerful it isn't compared to the others...simply because I don't care. Switch, XBONE and PS4 are different...when I buy a PS4 game, I don't care about the graphics (granted I'm amazed at certain ones), just like I get the nintendo consoles for my favorite franchises too (and yet, don't care about the graphics either). There are many others like me, that look at the fun parts of a game and deployability, rather than a game that looks amazing, that ends up getting played once and put away...sort of why I choose nintendo and sony as my console gaming.
Anyways, glad to see that the systems could get a Rogue Squadron trilogy collection...part 2 was incredible for a Gamecube game.
Just think if nintendo actually started to meet demands...oh wait, nintendo never does.
If the system was available on store shelves (multiple copies), they'd meet even bigger numbers. As long as nintendo keeps the advertising going (and not stop after a year) and the third parties stay on board and the retail games keep piling up, they'll continue good with the system...they'll sell more during the holiday period, but it's next year that will decide the systems selling power, and as long as nintendo has games that come out, no droughts in game releases, exclusives that show up on the retail scene (not just download), they'll have a great console that should do them well. Hopefully this isn't going to be a console that will go to nintendo's heads, to where they stop advertising and caring about the 3rd parties (like they did with Wii and Wii U). 3DS sold well and is a great portable, but the third parties seemed to leave it these past two years (not many). I hope to own a Switch by the holidays and I'm sorry to say that it still won't take my interest away from my PS4, but I hope to own one for the upcoming Mario Odyssey...just hope that the virtual console adds to what I'm looking for, the E-Shop games aren't cheap titles like on the Wii and Wii U (sorry to say, if they're also available on PS4, I'd purchase them on PS4 for trophies) and some of nintendo's old IP's making a come back (Startropics, FZero, Punch Out, Advance Wars, Chibi Robo (Doubt that one), Pikmin, Ice Climbers (could be better with updated graphics and stories), Wrecking Crew, NBA Courtside, Faxanandu and many more. Bring me back nintendo...I really hated the Wii U and didn't find much fun in it.
The thing that they basically need to keep going (and they haven't done this with the Wii, which stopped after a year, and have not done at all with Wii U and barely even with 3DS) is advertise...keep the commercials flowing with not just their own games, but even 3rd party games showing the Switch logo after. The more advertising, commercials, magazines, store sale racks and more...and not cheap out on the retail game scene (the stores looked pathetic with only a few Wii U retail games shown). If (let's say older parents that don't read up on it, but want to get their children a system and a few games), walk into a store, look at the systems...they're going to pick out the console that has a wide amount of games and genres...which Wii U never showed. If they look at PS4 or XBONE, they see a ton...Switch can do this too (granted that it will take close to the holiday to do so). I'm still not convinced by the Switch...it doesn't look that great to me, but I'm more looking into it than I was with the Wii U, but not as much as I looked at the Wii or even the Gamecube. I know I'll purchase one later on into the year or next year, but I really hope some interesting games come out for it, as I look, the only ones I'd get are Zelda, Mario Odyssey, Snipperclips and...that's about it right now. I've played Mario Kart 8 on Wii U, not to fond of purchasing it again, and I haven't ever played Splatoon, and I still have no interest in it. However, the virtual console offerings could change my mind, and some other games that could come out for it...How about some Super Monkey Ball, a Sonic exclusive, some Dreamcast on the virtual console side, new Punch Out, new Startropics and at least Chibi Robo on the virtual console side too.
Why does everything nintendo does have to be kept in secret like it's Area 51. Announce what you are planning on doing, instead of acting like you are a God waiting on world domination. Every time a question is asked it's always 'wait and see', which is getting old. Cloud based is done with almost everything else, if they're working on it or getting it ready for the Switch, say something instead of the usual 'wait and see' like it's a praise from nintendo-heavens!!! Reggie...what games are being worked on??? RESPONSE...wait and see!!!
Is this what everyone is going to do...compare the Switch to the PS4? Who cares, buy a system for the games, don't care about the graphics or comparison. It doesn't matter what the game looks and feels like on one system compared to another! I love the PS4 and I will be buying a Switch after the summer...I'll buy double copies of games if they're ones I love...I loved Dragon Quest Heroes on PS4, so I'll buy the sequel on PS4, but I'll also get it on Switch eventually to play on the go. I really don't care about the difference, because the Switch is not as powerful, and handhelds have a way to go before they get as powerful as a computer. Guess this is what we'll all be seeing though, comparisons. Why not put a Switch game against an Xbone game?
Of those sales, how many were actually scalpers selling on Amazon and EBay at expensive prices to make a few extra dollars? That's the only thing, how many actually bought it to play it? Shameful for the ones that actually wanted to buy and play one, but in honesty, if I had the extra money and time to do it...I'd do it too!!!
@Baker1000 Income tax returns helped it, and with summer vacations coming up, parents were probably looking at something for kids in the cars to do...plus, winter season was here, so kids are more focused on TV with commercials, so it was definitely a good time to release it...Christmas can usually hurt a company, and Sony has a few coming out this holiday that could have hurt it. As long as nintendo has Mario Odyssey on track for the holiday (and I believe Splatoon 2 is to come around that time too), then they can have a strong holiday sales period too, but once they manufacture more Switch units, and they start coming rapidly to stores, then the sales figures will show if it will continue. Up to right now, it will be hard to find anywhere until after the holidays...which is what happened to the Wii in the US (was over a year before they actually sat on a store shelf for more than a day).
@Romeo-75 I kind of expected it to sell out in the US...pre orders were sold out in a day or so and internet sites were already raising the costs of it for pre orders. I believe even Sony didn't release anything on that day because they knew (a statement from them showed that Horizon Zero Dawn would release a week or so before so the sales didn't hurt it).
Selling out on launch is pretty good, but just as some others on here stated, it has to continue throughout it's lifetime to become a hit. Will it sell out and beat the PS4...no, can it do better than the Wii...maybe, will it beat the Wii U...definitly, will it beat the DS...probably not, beat the 3DS...could come close...beat the PS2...probably not. Before anyone curses me out here, I am a nintendo fan, but realistically, it won't be the Number one system that a few are actually stating. NES sold a great margin back in the day, bringing the home gaming back into play after Atari almost killed the market. Super NES did okay, but not as great...it went down for nintendo until the Wii, which was a more casual audience (and most of them only owned Wii Sports for it)...and look at how many you can find of the Wii everywhere for cheap prices. PS2 has become the most selling console of all time with Wii in second...Wii U was one of nintendo's worst selling systems (if you include the Virtual Boy), so it's not hard to push past those numbers, as it also won't be hard to push past the Gamecube numbers. When it gets to the N64's numbers, then it's good news. Glad to see that they sold out though, I remember people waiting 24 hours in lines for the PS2 and Xbox, and I came in a store at midnight for the Gamecube (hyped for it and was waiting for a large line) and there was no line. The Wii's launch was huge, Wii U I found everywhere, so I'm glad to see nintendo is back in the game again!!!! Way to go Nintendo!!!! Now, if nintendo keeps the advertising going (they kind of stopped advertising the Wii after a year, and never really advertised the Wii U, and I barely see any commercials for a 3DS game), then the Switch should be a huge success for nintendo...but, it's all up to nintendo to keep the pace going and keep the 3rd parties happy as well as keep the consumers happy and potential buyers looking.
@datamonkey I know what you mean. I'm looking forward to Mario Odyssey, and that's the only thing (which is why I didn't even bother to purchase the system yet). I'm sure more will be up their sleeves for E3, but, since I own a PS4, the library to come is not strong enough for me.
Sales could continue and it could be nintendo's best selling console to date, as long as nintendo keeps the momentum going. The first thing they need to do is make enough to keep on store shelves and meet the demands...the next thing, keep the advertising going. PS4 is the top selling console of this generation (and I believe it's close to or even did beat the PS2 sales), and Sony keeps on advertising the heck out of the system...as long as nintendo continues (because the advertising seemed to stop after the first few months of the Wii), the consumers will continue to know about the system. The next thing, is keeping the retail games shown to the public in store shelves. If they walk by an area and only see a few games for it (Like the Wii U), people won't buy it...they'll go to the area that has a ton of games for it...it's not the genre of games that matter the most, it's the amount, which is what helped parents decide on the Wii for their kids...after all, when younger kids want a system, it's the parents that purchase it, and most of those parents know nothing about the systems (unless advertised on television or magazines)...I'm a parent who looks at web sites, but I know many who would never even look at a game web site...and many of those parents that I talk to (some of which own a Wii and Wii U) never even heard of the Switch (some have by the super bowl commercial, others never saw anything about it). I kind of wish Nintendo Power was around to advertise it!!! (hint, that's basically just myself wanting nintendo power back into publication!!!)
All systems have their flaws when they first come out. Sometimes it is better to wait until the company itself fixes it or some other company releases something to help with the situations. This situation comes from people that are constantly taking it out of the dock, and it's not really nintendo's fault, as it would be considered the user (by the company itself) for using the system too much (which is definitely what the company would state). Other than that, wait till people start using the touchscreen for long periods of time without a screen protector...the stylus pens will start scratching it and soon...the screen will look horrible.
@maceng You're going at it like me. I don't have a switch yet, but I'm planning on getting it closer to the holidays, when Mario Odyssey is close to launch. Other than that, just like you, I'll have the accessories ready (another joy con pack, screen protector) but I'll also start getting games ready for it when I do get it...I even get some E-Shop cards before, just so I have them.
For the scratch purposes, I always end up getting screen protectors for anything like this...have on on the 3DS, cell phone, Kindle, lap top and the Vita. Especially with it being a touchscreen, because even a finger nail can scratch it and stylus' can really scratch them after a while. I know what people mean with the 3DS, the bottom screen (since it's smaller) does scratch the top screen after a while...even with a screen protector on the top, it still shows up...what I end up doing for it, is put a tissue in between the two when closing it...seems to help.
Eh...still not feeling anything for the system, but will probably get one by the holiday period or next year at this time. Other than that, there's only 2 games for it that I'd get (Zelda and Mario Odyssey...and the later doesn't come out till the end of the year). Hopefully some more comes out for it before then (how about a new Super Monkey Ball game) and exclusives that aren't also on PS4 and PC already. Other than that, if I didn't have an extensive library for the PS4 and 3DS to play, I could have felt the want to get one, but it just didn't impress me or get me hyped (not sure why). I'll wait and see though, because I'm thinking it will be like Wii (hard to find and hard to keep on store shelves...in my area, the Wii shelf spaces were empty for over a year...glad I happened to walk into a store when they got some in...just a week after it's launch, had the money and bought it).
By next year at this time, this game will be $20 new and probably even less used. As it would probably be fun for a few hours with family and friends, I still don't see it taking off, but with not many party-games released for the system right away, it will do pretty good, will just lose interest like Wii Play and Wii Music did. Give it time, in about 3 years we'll see it in used drop bins for a few dollars, but $20 would have been a better price for it, to at least give some purchasers of the Switch a cheap game to buy and own for it.
Even though I'm not planning on purchasing the Switch until some time in 2018, I don't think nintendo has to worry about it being a failure or not selling well. The preorders are sold out, some of the games are even sold out as preorders, and hype throughout the internet is growing more and more since the reveal. The only thing that is wrong, is not making enough for the launch (2 mill could have been more after the demand was shown)...but to the last statement, nintendo has done this sort of thing in the past (Wii remotes being scarce, the Wii itself never being on store shelves for over a year...Gamecube being shorted on memory cards...etc)...but, to be fair for nintendo, why make a bunch of consoles to sit around if it happens to become another Wii U disaster. Other than that, it may not be as powerful as the competition, but it's a handheld, so it doesn't need to be...the hardware is not something that I look at, it's the games that I look at, and as long as Mario, Mario Kart, Mario Party (one like the older titles), Mario Golf, Kirby, Star Fox, Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Battalion Wars and maybe some other surprises, comes out, it's a well worth system for me...especially if a new Super Monkey Ball comes onto it!!!
Since I have no intention of buying a switch this year (maybe next year when it gets some more games and Mario Odyssey is out), I'll definitely be getting some 3DS discounts and games...as long as the Sega sale comes to the US too.
So they're the same as the Vita cartridges. I like the game cases, but the only thing I don't like is the one-color scheme on the side and just a typed name...kind of makes it look boring if you store them on a shelf (like the XBONE's looks boring). Kind of like the cartridges too, but I don't like the fact that they will be easy to lose and very easy to get dirty in the back of them...not good for some people with kids and definitely not good for kids...parents are going to be in hate when their child loses them!!!!
@jimi 1 2 Switch will probably sell pretty good, but it will get a massive price drop by the holiday (possibly even sooner). It will definitely become a drop bin game. The Wii Play game was horrible and lacked content, but they packaged it with a Remote (which was hard as balls to find at that time) which helped push the sales on that game...but look in a Game store, and you find a ton of copies of Wii Play sitting on the used shelves. 1 2 Switch will do well, considering there's not a whole lot out for the system at launch that will compare to it...but once Mario Kart 8 comes out and more come out later on, it will be overlooked and will be the cheap game for the system later on.
Would it take much? Maybe by the beginning of 2018 it will outsell, but not until then. Nintendo will short this system, and we'll see a massive shortage on it (just like the Wii era). With the hype and of how the preorders are already doing, I can see it outselling the Wii U, Gamecube and possibly come close to the N64...however, they have a ways to go to even come close to the Wii (could I see it beating the Wii...no, but I see it coming close). Time will tell, and it's all up to nintendo...on if they will continue to advertise and market the machine and on how well they help out 3rd parties by supporting them. Make it happen nintendo, you're doing good with 3rd parties now, but you need to continue to make them happy, or it's more of the Wii U era.
Just like all nintendo consoles. When the Gamecube released, it took months before a Memory card could be found...because nintendo shorted them. The Wii...well, the console took over a year before it was able to sit on a store shelf for more than a minute...then it was impossible to find an extra remote until Wii Play came out...now, Switch (sorry, Wii U was easy to find everywhere over here)...won't find a console until a year later. Oh well, the only game I'll be looking forward to is the new Mario Adventure, so I can care less...have the 3DS and PS4 to keep us all entertained until then, and I'd rather wait for the games to come out and see how the 3rd parties will keep the system going first...I still have doubts that 3rd parties will continue to stay on board, and I don't want all the shovel ware and cartoony-sports titles for it instead.
@Grandpa_Pixel Try some regular cleaning-type cloths, which you should be able to find at a Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Walmart, Kmart, Target or even Best Buy...actually, a store like Best Buy should even have the regular fiber cloths that you are looking for. Good luck!
@Grandpa_Pixel If you've ever gotten the starter packs for the 3DS or Wii U, then it's those type of cloths...the ones that you'd use for glasses and such. The other ones that work, are just the normal fiber cleaning cloths that you can get practically anywhere. Other than that, just stay away from kleenex and paper towels, and continue what you do for your games and consoles. The most you do that, even if the consoles themselves are old, the better...they'll last for as long as you want them!
@RadioHedgeFund I don't think it's illegal unless you sell them. I'd like to back up my games like people state, but I have no idea how. Can you give me some pointers on where to start and how to back up things like this?
@Yhdekskymmenen @Don It'll probably happen. Records came back, and the reason they're more money is due to the double layer that is now on them, to keep them from getting scratched and damaged...making them more tough (like 4 records on one to give it more strength). The only problems with CD's are the cheap ones...the ones you can put copied music on (Blank CDR's and CDW's) and the cheap companies that use them. Games made by the actual console company should be good, as they don't make them as cheap, but the cheaper the company, the more they could get damaged. As for applying to all, hopefully this is something that just happened to a few people, but it's just on where you store and how you take care of them. Blank CD's are the worst for trying to keep from getting damaged...CD's were made rather cheap, which could lead to PS1 titles more vulnerable to scratch and wear, but DVD's are meant to be a little stronger...and Bluray is even more superior (because blu ray discs are like 5 DVD's on one). All in all, it's how you take care of them and where you store them.
@Grandpa_Pixel The bags should keep them fine. The only thing that can really damage discs (besides the normal scratch and tear) is the moisture in rooms, but I've never had the problem like this article has suggested, but it can happen. Even the cartridges can get like that. For cleaning, what you are doing, is great! If they get scratches that disrupt them, what I was told by some of the disc makers (Sony and others) was to use a small bit of furniture polish, wipe it in...let it sit for a few minutes, and then rub it away with a micro-fiber cloth. The micro-fiber cloths are the only thing that should be used because napkins, kleenex or paper towels can ruin the disc even more causing more scratches...some of the fibers that are microscopic can even ruin them or get into the player (console) itself and cause damage to the lens. For the consoles, including DVD players and more, a vacuum can be used on the vents and canned air...not a shop vac though. For storage of discs, including VHS or Cassettes, just make sure they are away from anything that has moisture or excessive heat...and never keep them in the sunlight, as the sun's rays can cause heavy damage.
That's the best that I could tell you, and good luck with it! I've been gaming and collecting since the Atari era, and my systems and games still work great, so I must be doing something right!!!!
Disc rot doesn't happen unless you keep them in an area that has moisture. Attics and basements are the worst to keep anything, and discs are not the only thing that can get affected by that...cartridges can easily collect dirt that can ruin them, and moisture in cartridges can hurt them too, so this basically means nothing. In the end, it all comes down to how people take care of them...including stores that sell them. I have a few Genesis and Super NES games that don't even work anymore, no matter how many times they are cleaned. As to what everyone is worried about...Gamecube should be fine as long as you are taking care of them...I have a Gamecube library of over 160 games...my PS2 and games were also in a storage container for many years before we moved...all of which still work, including the consoles...but I also clean my discs, games and systems regularly...that's one way for keeping them in good condition.
@Zadaris The only thing it makes you wonder, is if there will be a 9 on the Switch. Seems like nintendo only makes one Mario Kart per system, and if this is counted as their new one, then we won't see another one until their next console...who knows though.
@fluggy The Wii U lacked it basically...I kind of wish they sold the game pads separate and allowed at least 2 to be connected to the console. Other than that, the Wii's controller scheme wasn't something that should have been on a brand new console...good for playing the classic Wii titles, but was annoying when trying to use the Wii U pad and also Wii remotes too...sort of like how we had to switch to the Wii page of the system before updates happened later. Log in with the Wii U pad, press the Wii channel button, pick up a Wii remote, use the wii remote for the rest. Wii U (and this is my personal opinion and I'm not busting on the console itself) was just kind of a mess and seemed to be nintendo working on the idea of a handheld/console together. Glad they thought better with the Switch.
@KingOfTheFools Playstation's are pretty expensive too. Actually, both Sony and Microsoft made newer controllers that are over $100, so I kind of agree with you that the cost of the joy cons are not that expensive (but they could be cheaper, just like the controllers for Sony and Microsoft)...Hmm...$60 for a controller or a new game...wonder what people would do?
Local multiplayer did not fade away, my wife and I and even my kids constantly play 2-player games on the PS4 (even 4 player). It's just that many people are now playing online instead, which I'm not one to do. Nintendo has always been with local multiplayer, which is what makes them unique in my category...tons of party and multiplayer titles. That's also why I choose Sony as my second console...they also get good multiplayer games (Hot Shots Golf, Buzz, Sing Star, Little Big Planet, Mod Nation Racers and many more). This is why I look on the back of the boxes to see, I don't play online and don't really care too and I won't let my kids play online either (the cursing from little kids and even adults is enough to ruin the whole point to playing online). Glad nintendo is going for this again, but if they are, what's the point of their paid-service for online? Also, does anyone know yet if you'd have to pay for their service if Netflix comes over??? That was one thing that kept me away from Microsoft (and 'No' you don't have to be a plus member to enjoy the apps on the PS4, before the wonderful XBONE fans start complaining about that).
@Switch81tch Not really...at least they'll own one unlike probably most of the people that did preorders or want to actually pick one up on day one. Other than that, it's just going to sit there teasing him until the services come alive and the games come out. It's at least better to get one 2 weeks before rather than getting one months before!!!!
@NEStalgia Not the greatest RPG fan...liked the Grandia and Dragon Quest titles, but other than that, can't really get myself into them. I love simulation games, which I do own on consoles and we play enough party games (like The Bible Game on PS2, all of the Mario Party titles up to number 8, Pac-Man Fever and the ones that are trivia). I honestly don't know why I didn't care for the 3DS that much, maybe due to much more in the way of Puzzles and adventures on the original gameboy (Rolan's Curse, Heianky Alien and more)...I own one, and played Mario titles, Kirby, Monkey Ball and Animal Crossing to death on it, just never felt as much love as I did with the gameboy...maybe it's getting older or what. Other than that, with consoles, besides party titles, my favorite genres are Platform (why I choose nintendo over sony for), party titles (again nintendo over sony), simulation (where at the moment, sony is thriving on over nintendo, but that could change), puzzles (both have multiple) and, the thing that many people don't like, is trophies, which I do enjoy earning...which gives my wife and I more chances on actually playing the same game over and over again. Other than that, I just remember Link's Awakening being one of my favorite gameboy titles...didn't care for the DS versions but loved the newest Link Between Worlds for 3DS. I was thinking it was due to getting a lot older, as I loved NES when I was in school, got excited for the Genesis, N64, Gamecube, PS2 and Dreamcast...got excited for the PS3 and was really excited for the PS4. I even had the excitement for the Wii, but it ended after a few years in. Wii U I wouldn't have even known about if it wasn't for Nintendo Power ( a magazine I truly miss), but even after seeing it, I still wasn't too excited for it. Switch got my attention with Mario Odyssey, but then I saw it wasn't coming out until the end of this year (and that could even change), then my excitement ended. I still want the switch, I'm just worried it will be like the Wii, Wii U and 3DS to me...play a lot for a while, and then it collects dust and gets lost to where I end up getting rid of them (which I got rid of the Wii and Wii U...kept the 3DS for my kids in the future). Gamecube will never leave, not with a collection of 185 games on it. PS3 I'd get rid of if the PS4 would allow you to download the movies and tv episodes you buy onto it, but the PS4 will never go. Hopefully the Switch becomes a console that I love and brings back the love for nintendo consoles again...still own everything nintendo that comes out (including old cereal boxes from nintendo, cassette music tapes with their logo on it, various collectibles from over the decades and every single Nintendo Power issue and special issues that came out)...yup, I am a nintendo fan!!!!
Loved Little Inferno...even when I got rid of the Wii U, I ended up purchasing it on my Mac...great to know I'll get to play it again, and I will pay the $10 for it again no matter what!!! World of Goo, I'm seeing with the $15 price tag on, and will pay for that one too! I never got a chance to play Human Resource Machine, as the trailer and screenshots made it not look as great as the other two, but I could be wrong. Anyone play it and see the same greatness as the other two???
@ThanosReXXX The real problem is the lid, but I just end up putting a book on top to keep it from popping open...not a big problem. The only other thing, which is weird anymore, is 2 of the games don't even play in it anymore...Hydro Thunder and Ecco The Dolphin. Don't know why it's doing that, but the rest play. Other than that, I'll just pick up another one, but it's still weird. Haven't really had problems with consoles (besides the 360 breaking on me 4 times...no worry, got rid of that system)...just the original genesis I had, which started smoking the one day...glad I had a second one for that one though.
@NEStalgia I still remember when I had the three systems at the time, and I will say that the N64 was more crisp and gorgeous with their games...Conker and even Mario looked incredible as well as Link...but Mega Man looked horrible. Dreamcast seemed to have the updated graphics at the time and Nintendo coming in second...the playstation 1 I never really got into (except the Spyro's, Crash games and You Don't Know Jack)...just didn't excite me, and I really never felt the love of Sony until the PS3 era (granted I still play the PS2 to death). Nintendo I've been a fan since the NES and still even play the games they made on the Atari...but the Wii U left me down for them, and I haven't felt the love for nintendo consoles after the gamecube...I got the hype for Wii, but it was short lived with the dump games (but they still had many great ones) and the motion controls started getting to me after a while (just wish you could've had the option to play with a regular controller or the motion) and the 3DS didn't seem to have the charm of the original gameboy for me...hopefully the Switch brings me back, but I'm still not feeling the hype for it and I'm not sure if it's because I feel that it will be another Wii U or if nintendo will start their normal droughts of titles or messing with the IP's in horrible ways. Time will tell, and I'm still looking forward to getting a Switch (as long as I can find one), but for now, it's Sony and Nintendo, unless sega decides to actually put another console out (which will never happen). Dreamcast was excellent but far beyond it's era and was overlooked by the PS1 too much (same went with the N64). Nintendo needs something big, more than just games here and there and the same games coming to the E-Shop time and time again...they need the new ones and ones from 3rd parties (some of which are even no longer around) and the E Shop needs to go back to what it once was on the Wii (granted it was WiiWare) and to stop the only 3 games per week nonsense...and the maybe one virtual game per week nonsense too. There's a boat load of NES, Super NES and N64 titles that they could add! I'd love to see Conker's Bad Fur Day make it over to it! It may be RARE, but RARE let Donkey Kong come over!

Re: Poll: A Month of Nintendo Switch - Do You Think It's Heading for Success?
Re: Nintendo Download: 30th March (North America)
Wow...what is going on with the 3DS virtual console? Barely any super NES titles and the NES titles have even stopped, and there are plenty of great original Gameboy games that they could add too. Also, is anyone else surprised that Stardew Valley never came to the 3DS...would be a great game to have on it with the touchscreen controls!!!! Love it on PS4, and planning on purchasing it retail on PS4...and re-purchasing it on Switch (once I finally get a Switch that is).
Re: GAME CEO Explains Why He Has So Much Confidence In Nintendo Switch
Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Promises "A Big E3" For Nintendo This Year
@retro_player_22 I like your list, but I don't see them announcing over half of that...and glad you picked Geist...a good game that was under appreciated.
Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Promises "A Big E3" For Nintendo This Year
If I remember reading somewhere...not sure if it was here or Pushsquare...Sony has a huge amount of space set aside for E3 with nintendo coming in second with space.
Re: Deals: Nintendo Switch Upcoming Goodies For March And April
Re: Nintendo Has Reportedly Sold 1.5 Million Switch Consoles Worldwide
Re: Deals: Nintendo Switch Upcoming Goodies For March And April
Re: Deals: Nintendo Switch Upcoming Goodies For March And April
Re: Deals: Nintendo Switch Upcoming Goodies For March And April
@Jessica286 What people need to realize, is that there are a few months with any console's release, that it is slow at first. PS4 had it, with only a few games coming out here and there, before the exclusives and tons of games started pouring out for it...retail and digital. Switch will get up there, just going to take close to the end of summer, and once the sales keep rising (without a big slump), more parties will be on board and create more...plus, they could be holding off on showing anything until E3, and there's no telling what nintendo is working on (hopefully a new Animal Crossing title).
Re: Nintendo Has Reportedly Sold 1.5 Million Switch Consoles Worldwide
@rjejr I kind of thought about the sales for March, which technically, wasn't that bad of a time period...summer vacations are going to be coming, kids get (for some reason) expensive gifts for Easter, and adults (like myself) get tax returns. Other than that, they could have done a little better during the holiday period, but it's hard to say, with Sony and Microsoft having more varieties...at least it somewhat gives nintendo a chance to catch up in the retail scene for the holidays.
Re: Nintendo Has Reportedly Sold 1.5 Million Switch Consoles Worldwide
Re: Star Wars: Rogue Squadron Studio Factor 5 Is Apparently Back From The Dead
Re: Nintendo Has Reportedly Sold 1.5 Million Switch Consoles Worldwide
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Switch Has Started Well - Now the Real Challenge Begins
Re: "Wouldn't That Be Wonderful?" - Reggie Fils-Aime on Cloud Services for Nintendo Switch
Reggie looks like Donkey Kong...or is it just me?
Re: "Wouldn't That Be Wonderful?" - Reggie Fils-Aime on Cloud Services for Nintendo Switch
Re: Video: Digital Foundry Pits Nintendo Switch vs. PS4 in Dragon Quest Heroes II Comparison
Re: Nintendo Switch Reportedly Sells 313,700 Units in Japan Across Launch Weekend
Re: Nintendo Switch Reportedly Sells 313,700 Units in Japan Across Launch Weekend
Re: Nintendo Switch Reportedly Sells 313,700 Units in Japan Across Launch Weekend
Re: Nintendo Switch Reportedly Sells 313,700 Units in Japan Across Launch Weekend
Re: Opening Sales for Nintendo Switch in North America Set a New High
@datamonkey I know what you mean. I'm looking forward to Mario Odyssey, and that's the only thing (which is why I didn't even bother to purchase the system yet). I'm sure more will be up their sleeves for E3, but, since I own a PS4, the library to come is not strong enough for me.
Re: Opening Sales for Nintendo Switch in North America Set a New High
Re: Guide: Nintendo Switch Dock Scratching Your Screen? Try This DIY Fix
Re: Guide: Nintendo Switch Dock Scratching Your Screen? Try This DIY Fix
Re: Poll: Merry Switchmas - Has the Nintendo Switch Launch Got You In a Festive Spirit?
Re: Review: 1-2-Switch (Switch)
By next year at this time, this game will be $20 new and probably even less used. As it would probably be fun for a few hours with family and friends, I still don't see it taking off, but with not many party-games released for the system right away, it will do pretty good, will just lose interest like Wii Play and Wii Music did. Give it time, in about 3 years we'll see it in used drop bins for a few dollars, but $20 would have been a better price for it, to at least give some purchasers of the Switch a cheap game to buy and own for it.
Re: Hardware Review: Nintendo Switch: Nintendo's Most Important Console Yet
Re: Nintendo Download: 2nd March (Europe)
Since I have no intention of buying a switch this year (maybe next year when it gets some more games and Mario Odyssey is out), I'll definitely be getting some 3DS discounts and games...as long as the Sega sale comes to the US too.
Re: Gallery: Here's How Nintendo Switch Game Cards Compare To Practically Everything Else
Re: Nintendo France Expects Switch To Beat Wii U's Lifetime Sales In Region By Year End
Re: Nintendo France Expects Switch To Beat Wii U's Lifetime Sales In Region By Year End
Re: GameStop Director on Demand and Timing for the Switch
Re: Retro: This Is Why We Should Probably Be Glad Nintendo Stuck With Carts For The N64
Good luck!
Re: Retro: This Is Why We Should Probably Be Glad Nintendo Stuck With Carts For The N64
Re: Retro: This Is Why We Should Probably Be Glad Nintendo Stuck With Carts For The N64
@RadioHedgeFund I don't think it's illegal unless you sell them. I'd like to back up my games like people state, but I have no idea how. Can you give me some pointers on where to start and how to back up things like this?
Re: Retro: This Is Why We Should Probably Be Glad Nintendo Stuck With Carts For The N64
Re: Retro: This Is Why We Should Probably Be Glad Nintendo Stuck With Carts For The N64
Re: Retro: This Is Why We Should Probably Be Glad Nintendo Stuck With Carts For The N64
Re: Talking Point: The Nintendo Switch Could Revive Local Multiplayer
@Zadaris The only thing it makes you wonder, is if there will be a 9 on the Switch. Seems like nintendo only makes one Mario Kart per system, and if this is counted as their new one, then we won't see another one until their next console...who knows though.
Re: Talking Point: The Nintendo Switch Could Revive Local Multiplayer
Re: Talking Point: The Nintendo Switch Could Revive Local Multiplayer
@KingOfTheFools Playstation's are pretty expensive too. Actually, both Sony and Microsoft made newer controllers that are over $100, so I kind of agree with you that the cost of the joy cons are not that expensive (but they could be cheaper, just like the controllers for Sony and Microsoft)...Hmm...$60 for a controller or a new game...wonder what people would do?
Re: Talking Point: The Nintendo Switch Could Revive Local Multiplayer
Re: Video: Here's The World's First Nintendo Switch Unboxing
@Switch81tch Not really...at least they'll own one unlike probably most of the people that did preorders or want to actually pick one up on day one. Other than that, it's just going to sit there teasing him until the services come alive and the games come out. It's at least better to get one 2 weeks before rather than getting one months before!!!!
Re: Video: Here's The World's First Nintendo Switch Unboxing
He has the system, but no games to go with it...guess he's staring at it for 2 weeks!
Re: Nintendo Switch Will Have A "Lot More Announcements" on Third-Party Games Soon
Re: Interview: Tomorrow Corporation On Supporting Switch And Why It Loves Nintendo
Re: Nintendo Switch Will Have A "Lot More Announcements" on Third-Party Games Soon
Re: Nintendo Switch Will Have A "Lot More Announcements" on Third-Party Games Soon
