@FishyS I agree 100%. I love both Toree games and still play them from time to time. I was super excited for Super Kiwi 64 and Beeny since I love Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country, and I was pretty disappointed in both (although I did really like the dungeon level in Kiwi 64).
What I really want is a more ambitious Toree game. Keep the basic graphics and gameplay, just expand with more levels and maybe some themed worlds or something. I respect that Siactro is doing something unique with the bite sized games he makes, but I'd love it if he tried doing something just a little bigger
I rarely whine about prices but... Are the devs insane? This is quite possibly the most hilariously overpriced game I've ever seen. I actually usually enjoy these derivative Zelda clones, but I don't care how much the price drops on the eshop, I am never buying this out of spite
Witcher 3 for the first time, 70+ hours in and only at level 18, looked online and I'm not even halfway through the main story. I'm loving the game thoroughly but it's kinda stressing me out how big it is, it's drastically different from all the Nintendo titles and small indie games I usually play
The South Park connection is accurate, Trey Parker specifically mentioned that he loves Earthbound and it was a big inspiration for The Stick of Truth.
I absolutely love this game but it's definitely a cult game that isn't going to appeal to everyone. I think this game actually benefits from loosely referring to a guide from time to time, since it can be a little confusing and cryptic at times. Remember, it was even packaged with one at the time of release. So much of what makes this game so special to me is in the final stretch, so I hope the writers can persevere
I was cautiously optimistic but thought it was likely it'd be delayed. It's a little disappointing, but considering they had been aiming for holiday 2022, if it launches in spring that's really just a few months off. That said I kinda wish they'd stop announcing games so prematurely.
Super Mario Sunshine is honestly one of my favourites.I love the difficulty and the setting (I really love Isle Delfino as a hub) and honestly think FLUDD makes for some really fun movement. Some of the jankier levels can get chuckstered though
This was a cool read, I always love reading about this kind of stuff with new developers. One of my best friends just played through Ocean's Heart and gave it a strong recommendation. I love the genre, and even if it's a little derivative I can usually get past that if it nails the formula well. I'll get it at some point for sure
I've done three of the campaigns in Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, just have King of Cards left. I might take a break from it since they can get a bit repetitive between campaigns, but wow they're all great. I started Crash Bandicoot 2 on the N Sane Trilogy last night and might start Hob this weekend as well. A few weeks ago I promised myself I'd finish a few more games in my backlog before buying anything new and it's been great so far, it's made me play games I just haven't been inspired to start yet and I ended up getting super into each one.
I'm playing Treasure Trove for the first time ever and having an absolute blast. Will definitely be looking forward to this one a little closer to release
I'm not even really into RPGs and this game is easily in my top 5. Such a fantastic, quirky game that gets surprisingly dark and emotionally resonant in places. I just played through it again a few months ago but happy to see it finally land on switch and be available to so many new players
@jon128 I played through the main campaign of Captain Toad while it was a free trial the other week, I wasn't expecting to like it half as much as I did.
Castle Crashers Remastered and Mario Party Superstars. Also started messing around in Mario 64 just to test the emulation on NSO and ended up getting sucked into it again, I think it's legally required I finish my playthrough now
@FishyS I enjoyed it a lot but yeah, 9/10 is pretty high for a game that's so derivative. Have you played Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair? It's a far better and more creative take on the DKC formula in my opinion and probably my favourite non-Mario/ DK 2D platformer out there
Kaze and the Wild Masks was great, but it's pretty pricey for an indie 2D side scroller with pixel graphics. I definitely recommend it to any fan of the DKC series, but even with sale price and using gold points it was steeper than a lot of comparable eshop titles
I really like both Toree games (was actually just revisiting the first one last night to check out the remix level update), but I would love to see the developer make a longer, more ambitious Toree game. Even if it kept all the same simple graphics and gameplay, but maybe had a few different themed worlds, with some levels only accessed if you've collected enough stars or completed a stage in a certain amount of time. I liked how Toree 2 concluded with a boss fight, maybe there could be a few of those? I'd happily pay a few more bucks for a Toree experience that's a couple hours instead of 40 minutes!
I don't know anything about the series, but Touhou Luna Nights by the same devs was awesome and this looks pretty similar so I'll definitely give this a go at some point
I still remember waiting in line at the N64 display Walmart for 45 minutes when I was a kid just to get to play it for about three minutes. I barely got to bounce around Bob-omb Battlefield a bit and maybe stomp a couple Goombas, but it totally blew my ten year old mind. I'd still rank it as one of my favourite games (if not my favourite) but I think a 10/10 might be setting up a newcomer for disappointment. The controls, camera and some of the gameplay mechanics are pretty clunky and outdated. For the mid 90's though, nothing had ever felt so vast and huge with so much freedom and depth.
Finished Blossom Tales last night, fun enough Link to the Past clone but a little easier than I woulda liked. Looking forward to the sequel that was announced recently. Started Bowser's Fury last night, probably keep playing that and Tetris Effect
@Clyde_Radcliffe I played through Crash 1 on the N Sane Trilogy for the first time last month, that exact level nearly made me rage quit (though I persevered and ended up enjoying the game overall). It's the hardest level in the game in my opinion. I love how the game keeps granting you an Aku Aku when you die repeatedly, as if that extra hit point is really gonna help as you plunge to your death for the fortieth time...
I've been curious about this one so that's a little disappointing. The game has largely been getting decent reviews elsewhere though, I might still check it out if there's a big enough sale
I'd say 80% of the time it's docked (I just find having a big screen and audio more immersive, plus I prefer using my pro controller), but some games like Super Mario Maker 2, Tetris Effect and most puzzle games I find easier in handheld. I've never played tabletop and literally forgot that was even an option.
@Divinebovine dang, I absolutely love the music in that game. I hum the shopkeeper music to myself pretty much daily. Some of the tracks are pretty aggro though, I can see how it could be a turnoff
Finished Super Mario 3D World last night, trying to decide whether to start the Bowser's Fury campaign right away or save it for another time. Definitely lots of Tetris Effect and I'll probably start Blossom Tales today too.
Not Metroid Dread, I have a birthday coming up soon and I suspect that may be in its future. I've been busy at a wedding all weekend but have been playing Super Mario 3D World a level or three at a time during the downtime
I usually have a hard time returning to games to check out these updates, once I beat a game I'm usually done with it, but I might have to make an exception in this case. I really liked this game a lot and the void challenges were my favourite part of the game. I'm glad to see the devs are still supporting it
Glad to see Dire Dire Docks made the cut, it might not be as iconic as Bob-omb Battlefield but it's probably the single most nostalgic piece of video game music for me
Finally finished Skyward Sword HD on Friday (70 hours, which I read is more than twice the average, so I guess I suck). I absolutely loved it though. Started Ori and the Will of the Wisps last night, I loved Blind Forest and so far this is shaping up to be great too
Looking forward to watching this, I love 3D platformers and I'm glad there's still some love for the genre. I was already excited for Demon Turf, stoked to see what else is coming
Been curious about this one, despite all the flaws noted (other than the game crashing, which I'm surprised didn't seem to affect the review more), this still sounds right up my alley. I'll grab it eventually
I definitely enjoyed the first Axiom Verge and was already looking forward to this, but I don't have the same rapturous love for the original game like a lot of people do. Glad to hear it's not a carbon copy of the first game, but the combat and environments look a little less appealing to me this time. I'll still inevitably get it eventually but I'll hold off for a bigger discount, God knows I have enough indie Metroidvanias in the backlog to hold me over until then
Pretty deep in Skyward Sword HD and loving it a lot. We're visiting family right now but there's so many forest fires that the smoke is making it hard to do anything, so there's been a lot more Switch time than I was expecting
Despite all the hate I see for this game, I'm picking this up first thing after work on Friday. I took a gaming hiatus for almost 20 years (N64 was the last new console I had until I got a Switch) so even if I think the pricing is a little steep I'm glad to see games I missed out on become available again, and I haven't played a non-BotW 3D Zelda since Ocarina of Time was a new game. I read so much hate for Super Mario Sunshine before the release of 3D All Stars and that ended up being one of my favourite games in the series, I'm hoping something similar is the case here
Been playing Super Metroid, despite my love of the genre and growing up with a SNES I've never actually played it before, or any other Metroid title for that matter. Really liking it so far, I can see how this must have really blown some minds in the mid-90's. Also been picking at Golf Story for a couple weeks, I'll hopefully get a few hours in on it too.
I finished Yoku's Island Express a few days ago, now I'm just filling out the map and cleaning up a couple side quests. Unexpectedly one of my favourite games I've played recently, and it's often steeply discounted on the e shop. Other than that I'm looking forward to starting Golf Story today
DKC trilogy, Super Mario Kart, A Link to the Past, Yoshi's Island, Super Mario World, Dr. Mario, Double Dragon... And not much else. Mostly games I've already played to death though...
Trying to finish Katana Zero despite my lack of skill. I really want to see the story through though. I feel like I must be near the end. Also picked up Yoku's Island Express last night, looking forward to starting that tomorrow
@Oswinner I had to get every single bee in Impossible Lair and it still took me dozens of attempts to get it. I absolutely loved that game but that stage is ridiculous
Finally got 100% on Tropical Freeze last night. Started Narita Boy but it is so far boring the hell out of me. Gonna give it another chance but might switch to Ori and the Will of the Wisps
@pixelpatch I played both last year and thoroughly enjoyed both of them. Yooka-Laylee got mixed reviews but I honestly thought it was tons of fun. I really hope they do a proper 3D sequel at some point.
Having said that, Impossible Lair was way better received, so you might want to go with that. It's very similar to the Donkey Kong Country games, with an overworld that functions almost as a seperate game, with puzzles you solve to unlock more levels. Both are great and offer a decent amount of playtime
