Re: Random: Waluigi "Invites Himself" To Super Smash Bros. In This Emotional Fan-Made Trailer

Harmonie

@Vexx234 A shame that Nintendo won't invest and him and make him his own character outside of an addition in Mario spin-offs.

Although Daisy is a clone, it is still very very bizarre to have her in the game. Although her origin is in Super Mario Land, she disappeared fom many years only to return as a spin-off character for the last two decades. She's treated much like Waluigi by Nintendo, yet somehow she gets in Smash but not Waluigi?

And then there's Piranha Plant. I still can't even with that one.

Re: Best GameCube Games

Harmonie

Super Mario Sunshine at 47, ouch. D: I quite like Sunshine, a shame.

My favorite GCN game by a wide margin is Animal Crossing. Animal Crossing was the first game of its type I played and it was just perfect for me, who didn't always want action, but also wanted room to be creative and focus on characters' lives and the like.

I disagree that Animal Crossing came onto its own on the handheld. I have never played an Animal Crossing game as much as the GCN version. It was a really special game. It's dated now, but its charm sadly was never fully replicated in later games. and Animal Crossing sequels have always been a mixed bag. The only ones I can say are legitimately better games than the GCN version are NL and NH.

Otherwise, Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door, Twilight Princess and Super Smash Bros Melee are top notch. The GCN was a fantastic console. A shame Nintendo doesn't make them like that anymore.

Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Pokédex - Every Confirmed Pokémon So Far

Harmonie

No one should expect the full Pokedex in these games. That does not excuse the rest of the series, but this is a very special kind of Pokemon game, one set in the past. This time GF actually has a reason to not include every Pokemon.

I'll be sad that the majority of my favorites aren't there, but I understand why in the context of this game. I'm happy that at least they gave us a fantastic selection for the starters.

Re: Soapbox: Life Is Strange On Nintendo Switch Signals Better LGBTQ+ Rep To Come

Harmonie

I can't believe people get so offended over this. You call it forced representation, and maybe it is intentionally done this way, but that doesn't make it bad. For you see, LGBT people EXIST. You know what is actually pandering? The vast amount of straight white male characters we've had in video games for decades. Some people are so jaded by that, that they can't even see that adding LGBT characters is actually more realistic and is moving away from pandering. Some people just don't realize when they're the ones being pandered to, I guess.

Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Has New Pokémon, Including A Horrible Fish Ghost Bent On Revenge

Harmonie

My excitement remains the same if not more! I'm really excited to see new regional forms and evolutions. This is a good move from GameFreak over the past couple of generations. And here we get some in a game that is a side-game!

The gameplay has taken more aspects from BOTW, like crafting. I can dig that. As long as things don't break. Lol. But even if they do, the game still looks fantastic. I was worried when I saw catching Pokemon without battling, but that isn't the default, it's just a method that can be used on certain Pokemon. So we get variety. I also love how we get to study the Pokemon.

This game looks excellent! Looking forward to it. =D

Re: Latest Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl Trailer Shows New And Returning Features

Harmonie

I do have to give them the point that trainer customization is much more than I ever expected of this game. But the game just can't be saved by that. It's still a super-conservative 2.5D remake of a game that was already 2.5D. They may have improved the lighting, but the rest of the graphics remain unchanged. It looks very drab and lacks the refinement of other 2.5D games published by Nintendo on the Switch. I can not shake this feeling that the game still looks very cheap. It's the overworld models. They just look somewhere in between DS and 3DS instead of Switch.

Re: Soapbox: Chiptune Is Great, But The Impact Of A Full Orchestra Is Unbeatable

Harmonie

I think the first orchestral music I heard in video games was in Super Smash Bros. Melee. That orchestral rendition of Fountain of Dreams is top notch. You know it's great if I'm still singing its praises nearly 20 years later!

I value real instruments over computerized sounds. Whether that be a full orchestra or just a small ensemble of instruments, that's fine with me. As an oboist, when I hear a MIDI oboe or English horn it breaks my heart. The instrument is so beautiful. Have the real one in your music, please.

For those who are worried about the timbre in comparison to the old MIDIs or whatever they call it, you'd probably be amazed with the timbre that instruments can create that can give a very similar vibe.

Just listen to this. This is actually a Medieval piece and it's performed on period double reed instruments. But it reminds me of Gameboy/Gameboy Color music. It's really fascinating. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1h4avhGb_ag

I think double reeds and old windcap (crumhorn, cornamuse, etc.) instruments actually give off a similar vibe. I'm not just saying this because I play double reeds. Lol. Also, I think the harpsichord and some other instruments could work.

Re: Soapbox: The Term 'Indie' Is Losing Meaning, But Maybe That's A Positive Sign

Harmonie

I've always had this notion that indie = 2D sprite games. While that isn't true 100% of the time, I admit it leads me to not really even look much into games under that label. Like, I didn't even know there was an Indie World a few days ago, and even if I had, I wouldn't have watched it.

I know there are Indie games out there that would be interesting, but the notion that they're largely 2D sprite games really turns me off from really looking into them myself unless a really neat aspect of them is brought to my attention (like the LGBT representation list made by Kate a month or so back, or that one Bug Story game that always gets brought up because it's a spiritual successor to classic Paper Mario).

Re: 'Pokémon Presents' Live Presentation Announced For Wednesday, 18th August

Harmonie

@BriskSunrise I'm not worried about being targeted here. I'd say that chances are very likely that I will remain hyped for Pokemon Legends Arceus, but having been someone who has expressed being disappointed with many games in the past, I see these snide remarks thrown around all of the time and they do get aggravating because we're all people here.

Just because I shouldn't take it personally, doesn't also mean that I can't call it out when I see it, because it's annoying. As I said, it's snide. This may be the internet, but we're all still people here, communicating with other people.

Also, the "it's just a joke" line is one of the oldest in the books, by the way. One thing I've realized over the years of my life as a minority among other things is that line is nonsense and perhaps without realizing, people go mask off when they make these "jokes". "Jokes" always have a context, and someone has to be of a certain mindset/opinion to make or find a joke funny. They don't exist in a vacuum. You can't tell me that mariomaster didn't share some agreement with the original person they responded with their "joke" to. (this joke could have a different context, like if it's a specific subReddit where people only poke fun at this kind of attitude, but... here? Nope, don't believe that. Sorry)

Now when it comes to video game opinions, it doesn't really matter versus actual bigotry, but I still know this passive aggressive behavior when I see it.

Re: 'Pokémon Presents' Live Presentation Announced For Wednesday, 18th August

Harmonie

@mariomaster96 I'm sorry, but this kind of snide attitude does no one any favors. Why are you even posting it?

Point is: You're whining about people complaining, but you yourself are setting yourself up to find people to complain about already by saying "even if it does live up to expectations". Um... WHOSE expectations? Ask yourself that. If you think that dissenters are a hivemind, you're way off. They're all people with their own opinions and expectations, thus one set of expectations is not another's, and someone will inevitably be disappointed with pretty much any product. It's not something to be snide about, it's just a matter of everyone having formulated their own opinions.

When you lump everyone together as some premade category that all thinks the same, it's no wonder you're not going to be able to understand why some people are going to be disappointed.

People who are dissenters for one game will not always be for another (like me I don't like BD/SP, but I am looking forward to Pokemon Legends Arceus and doubt they'd do anything to kill my hype at this point), and people who dissent to a game, have different reasons for why they find it disappointing from another individual.

Re: Community: What Was Your First Ever Nintendo Game?

Harmonie

First Nintendo game, I'm not really sure of, but I know it was the NES. We had a collection of games, most of them were third party.

This makes me sound older than I am, though. Lol. I was born in the late 80s and when I would have formed these early childhood memories of playing the NES, it couldn't have been any earlier than 1993 or 1994, which was quite some time after the SNES came out. My family just didn't get a SNES until later.

Re: Nintendo Reminds Us Pokémon Diamond And Pearl Remakes Are Coming To Switch

Harmonie

@ModdedInkling It's true that these are, in fact, remakes, while Skyward Sword HD is a remaster and yes, in pretty much any other situation, I will advocate for the former over the latter, but in this case, I can't say either are good.

Sadly, it's possible to put in the effort into remaking a game from the ground up but not do it good. And this is just the very picture of that. This is supposed to be a Switch game, but it looks like a 3DS game. Like even other 2.5D games on the Switch from Nintendo and their associates (Link's Awakening HD, Pokemon LGP/E) blow this out of the water. They blow BD/SP so far out of the water they're floating off in space somewhere. LAHD and LGP/E, while not even being that great (especially LGP/E, awful games), don't look like 3DS games. They look like Switch games. They have that crisp, HD look. While Pokemon BD/SP look unpolished and cheap.

And... LAHD and LGP/E are not worthy of being $60 games either, so we have to understand BD/SP are a HUGE ripoff for $60 (although I'm sure they'll have much, much better gameplay than LGP/E).

BD/SP should have blown LGP/E out of the water. If only they had stylistically followed the previous Pokemon remakes and matched their current generation. Then Sinnoh would have gotten reimagined quite a bit and it would have been really neat to see. But...they don't even look up to par with LGP/E and that's pathetic.

I guess Pokemon Legends Arceus is the only hope for Sinnoh.

Re: Nintendo Reminds Us Pokémon Diamond And Pearl Remakes Are Coming To Switch

Harmonie

@Bolt_Strike I guess for me, I couldn't care less about Battle Frontier or the equivalent in other games (battle towers, etc.). That's not to say I don't think they should be there, but when that's the content added, for me it's like there's no extra content since that does nothing for me.

I know it was a HUGE deal to people when OR/AS didn't include it, but I was having too much fun with all that was added to even worry about that.

Re: Nintendo Reminds Us Pokémon Diamond And Pearl Remakes Are Coming To Switch

Harmonie

@Bolt_Strike I certainly had my issues with OR/AS (I have my complaints with HG/SS as well), but, as I said, they stylistically matched the generation they were from (making them feel much more worth their price) and they added really neat features (such as DexNav). Plus, they added the day/night feature back, which the lack of which in R/S/E really upset me.

OR/AS felt like a much better R/S (I never played Emerald, since I wasn't impressed with Ruby) and actually kind of turned around my opinion. I'm glad to have a Hoenn game I thoroughly enjoy when I didn't much care for Ruby.

I mean, between R/S and D/P, R/S were desperately in need of being made much better and I'm glad that happened... But why couldn't effort be put into making a good remake for D/P nevertheless? It makes me so sad.

These are 3DS games. These are not worth $60, to charge that for them is spitting in our faces. And Nintendo/TPC/whoever is responsible really need to be held to better standards than this.

Re: Nintendo Reminds Us Pokémon Diamond And Pearl Remakes Are Coming To Switch

Harmonie

@UglyCasanova I mean, they've outsourced these, while GameFreak works on Pokemon Legends Arceus. A new game is being made and IMO it is very exciting.

But... These games right here are a shame to the Pokemon remake series. Prior to this, every Pokemon remake stylistically matched the generation it came out in. This certainly bucked that trend, and it might be forgivable, if only the games were sold at a price relative to their quality. But no. $60 for games that look like they could have been released on the 3DS.

I know it's hard to believe, but I hate being so negative... I'm trying to be better, but then we get this. It's hard. I just can't help but be heartbroken. OR/AS and before I held the Pokemon remakes as a shining beacon of what a remake should be like. But now it looks like the Pokemon remake series has lost its spark. I don't know if it's because they outsourced it to work on Pokemon Legends, or if this is the trend from now on. I dearly hope it's the former.

Re: Just 10 Days Since Launch, Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Is Already Amazon's Third Best-Seller Of 2021

Harmonie

@Whatsmyname TBH, that's the group I'm the most baffled by. If the remaster was sold at a discounted price I might understand double-dipping, but going all in to pay another $60 for a game that you already own? That just makes no sense to me.

If the three GCN/Wii Zeldas had been bundled into a bundle, I might have understood. But Nintendo doesn't do bundles very often. (Metroid Prime Trilogy desperately needs to become the standard). So you're just straight-up paying $60 for just one game you already own.

I will mention that I did purchase Twilight Princess HD, but I pretty much got it for the bonus OST, and if I had known it was just a small portion of the OST I wouldn't have done it. What a rip-off.

Re: Ace Attorney Turnabout Collection Combines Great And Trilogy Releases In One

Harmonie

@nessisonett I will say I'm happy that they focused on Great Ace Attorney first, as the second game has never been available in the west. All of the sequel trilogy is.

I'd prefer they also put out a collection of the two Miles Edgeworth games before the sequel trilogy seeing as it's the same deal as the Great Ace Attorney, the second title never saw a release in the west.

Re: Just 10 Days Since Launch, Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Is Already Amazon's Third Best-Seller Of 2021

Harmonie

@Whatsmyname I'm just saying it's a game that has been out for ten years. A game that was released on one of Nintendo's best selling systems ever, of which the last generation's system was backwards compatible with. So... it's not too hard to have played already. I understand there is an audience still of people who are younger or took a long break from Nintendo, or never got SS for whatever reason, but enough to sell this much? Kinda ridiculous.

Re: Talking Point: Every Pre-BOTW 3D Zelda Now Has A Remake, But Which Is Best?

Harmonie

Wind Waker HD, Twilight Princess HD, and Skyward Sword HD are not even remakes, they are remasters. I wish the latter two actually got a remake. Imagine how beautiful Twilight Princess would look in the Wii U demo style. Just imagine. (WWHD, IMO, was fine with the remaster)

With that said, I'm not impressed by any of them. Nope, not OOT3D and MM3D either. They may be technically remakes, but they 100% felt like remasters themselves. The same sound effects, the same music, they played 100% like the originals. If I wanted that, I'd play the originals.

So I can't even vote in this. I can't vote that they're worse than the originals because I disagree with that, I just wish they did better.
