Re: Feature: 14 Nintendo Switch Ports We'd Still Love To See

Harmonie

@GameOtaku You won't get much argument from me there. Atlus releasing all of the Persona spinoffs inevitably leaves us questioning why the mainline series can't also be there. Also, Joker appearing in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is another weird thing, but remember that Cloud appeared in SSB4's DLC when the mainline FF had not been on Nintendo consoles in like two decades (and Cloud himself had only appeared on Nintendo systems through small cameos on KH:CoM and Theatrhythm).

I can't understand this behavior, but it happens.

...But history dictates that mainline Persona is a PlayStation series. That's the fact at the end of the day. However much stubborn it seems that Atlus would release spin-offs for Nintendo but not the mainline series, the mainline series does have a clear history and it is understandable because of that.

Re: Feature: 14 Nintendo Switch Ports We'd Still Love To See

Harmonie

@GameOtaku For whatever reason, SMT is treated completely different by Atlus. The fact of the matter is that the mainline Persona series, which began over 25 years ago, has been almost entirely Sony exclusive, with a couple of them released on PC in addition (the very first one, and then Persona 4 Golden came to Steam a year or two ago). Mainline Persona has a very clear and defined platform history, and coming to a Nintendo system would be a large delineation from that.

Of course, I'd love to see it. But I just don't think that the chances are high. We can continue to hope, but as I said originally, we shouldn't act too surprised or feel slighted. Persona mainline is essentially a PlayStation series.

Re: Feature: 14 Nintendo Switch Ports We'd Still Love To See

Harmonie

"Persona 5, a game that — lest we forget — released on PS3 back in 2016, is still not available on a Nintendo system."

Persona 5 has not been released on any non-Sony system, and mainline Persona has always been Sony exclusive save for a couple of PC releases. Please, lets take that context into account before saying that Nintendo has been slighted.

Re: Gallery: Nintendo Shares More Screenshots Of Pokémon Legends: Arceus For Switch

@MysteryCupofJoe Well, I find sprites and blocky environments to be archaic. They are the result of the limited hardware of their time.

People can have their opinions. (I can understand enjoying archaic things, like I prefer the harpsichord over the piano, regardless of the fact that the piano is an technical improvement.) But... a 2D/3.5 game should not be out here on a modern console for $60. Plus, Pokemon had to move on, and I'm glad that it finally has.

Re: Poll: So, Do You Think Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 Will Actually Release In 2022?

Harmonie

@Darknilious I have a feeling that the decision to make BOTW a duel release was not one of "we've done this before" but instead because the Wii U was so unsuccessful and the Switch had to be brought out quickly, and BOTW was right there.

Remember that while Twilight Princess did release on the both the GCN and the Wii, both systems also had their own Zelda independent of TP (GCN had Wind Waker, the Wii had Skyward Sword).

Seeing as the Switch is successful like the Wii, there's not much reason to believe they have to rush out a new system and correspond BOTW2 with it. In addition, BOTW2 is clearly reusing a lot of BOTW, making it a prime candidate for a quicker release than your average Zelda game.

Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Gets A New Six-Minute Overview Trailer

Harmonie

The mounted Wyrdeer is shown traversing a mountainy area. That is neat. I notice that in so many open world (or similarly designed landscapes) games, mounts can not traverse such areas and thus are pretty useless for a lot of exploring.

Weird that Pokemon of all things would understand that problem and work to improve upon it.

Re: Nintendo Advises New Switch Owners To Complete Setup Before Christmas

Harmonie

@Ludovsky Yeah, I'm aware of the issue. I play FFXIV. There for a while, the servers got very overloaded after the release of the newest Expansion Pack, Endwalker.

It's only been the last several days that I've seen a substantial decrease in the queues. Even then I still get queues upward of 900 in the evenings. It's better than the 4,000+ I was seeing a couple of weeks ago, though!

Re: Japanese Charts: Nintendo Switch And Pokémon Diamond And Pearl Remakes Continue To Dominate

Harmonie

@tkdboy1889 There are some things I think are beyond people's opinions. Like I don't think the visuals are up to par, and I know you could just say "that's your opinion", but I don't feel like it entirely is, because you can compare this to other games on the Switch that retailed for the same price, including Pokemon titles. The standards are higher than what BD/SP gave us.

Someone could like that style for some reason, but can you really tell me face to face that BD/SP really match up to the standards of other games of the same retail price, system and company? Every time I see footage of this game (the battles themselves look okay, I will say that) the environments and models scream "cheap". They are not crisp, they do not match the standards of other Switch games. They do not even match the standards of LGP/E. To be blunt, they don't even come close to LGP/E.

And then we have something like the Exp Share All feature. There are people who don't care that it's forced, but I think it's silly to give their opinions too much, because Exp Share can be completely optional, and always was before Sword/Shield. The fact of the matter is that Exp Share being optional would benefit more people, whereas the people that don't care about it or want it always on are shutting down the other peoples' playstyle for no reason.

At the end of the day, the company could have produced a better game and all of the same people would have still bought it, but people like me who are more critical, also would have been able to. That's the problem with cheaply made games like this... Things could be better, and more people could be happy. And it's not even rocket science in a case like this. Some games do little bad things and get a lot of flack from some people, but you can't look at them as a whole and feel like they are just cheaply made games that don't deserve their price (BOTW is a great examplee of this, some people bring it down for the weapon durability system, but the game itself was held to much better standards than BD/SP). But BD/SP were clearly just made with pure profit in mind, and that's a bad thing for all of us.

Re: Japanese Charts: Nintendo Switch And Pokémon Diamond And Pearl Remakes Continue To Dominate

Harmonie

@Arawn93 The individual that I responded to didn't say anything about the people who bought it, they said that because it's sold so well it can no longer be considered a 7/10 game. That is straight-up "sales = quality", and that's why I responded.

Again, with reviewers being people, they can end up being biased to overlook the objective flaws of the game that are just bad design. This happens a lot, especially in communities that are biased toward one company/franchise (like this one is Nintendo). Reviewers are always people. I'm not even saying that the 7/10 rating is accurate, but it is better than what many other people gave it.

Notice, what I said in the last parts there was that the games can not change. You just said that they can change because of other peoples' opinions. That makes no sense. The games will always be the games they are, peoples' opinions can not change a game, because that's not how reality works at all. lol. (Yes, sometimes patches can come out and fix flaws, but overhauls like that are rare, and BD/SP are poor quality beyond repair. And even with that said, that is still not opinions changing a game, it's developers changing the game. Games can not be changed by opinions. That's reality.)

Re: Japanese Charts: Nintendo Switch And Pokémon Diamond And Pearl Remakes Continue To Dominate

Harmonie

@Arawn93 Where on earth did I say that? I said that quality =/= number of sells/popularity.

What I am saying is that this game's 2 million purchasers wouldn't all argue with this rating, not all of them like it. Now you literally did say that the 2 million purchasers do disagree with the rating, which is a generalization.

I put BD/SP and LGP/E both in the very same category: Cheaply made, rushed 2.5D games that are not worth even half of their asking price. LGP/E suffers from gameplay issues that BD/SP doesn't (forcing motion control for catching and not having the traditional catching mechanics, for one) BUT LGP/E also had a lot of care put into the visuals compared to BD/SP, which look like they were made far more cheaply than LGP/E (which says a lot).

Either way, both games are poor experiences altogether and are not worth my money.

Inconsistent reviews? LGP/E were released back in 2018, BD/SP in 2021. Do you think that all reviewers on NL are all the exact same person of the exact same mind at all times in the past and current?

I do think that the quality is set in stone, because there is no amount of people that can purchase this game that can change that. There is no amount of people saying that these games are amazing that can change that. At the end of the day, they are the same overpriced cheaply made remakes with ridiculous flaws for no reason (like Exp Share not being optional - seriously, there is absolutely no reason for that) and nothing can change that. Because the games themselves can't and won't change and they're all that matter.

Re: Japanese Charts: Nintendo Switch And Pokémon Diamond And Pearl Remakes Continue To Dominate

Harmonie

@Arawn93 That doesn't change a single thing about what I said.

Besides, it's quite a generalization to say that about all of the purchasers. A lot of them were probably parents who just bought the game for the children because it said Pokemon and knew absolutely nothing else about it. Others might have purchased it not even expecting to think it was amazing, just that it's something to do.

Also, lets break down what 7/10 even means. It could go two ways: If it's like the US school grading system, that means average, which is really kind to this game. If it's more standard, where 5/10 is average, then 7/10 is an even higher score, meaning well above average, but also saying "this game has some issues and could have been better" (which is even more charitable to a game that doesn't deserve that).

Either way 7/10 is not at all something to complain about. As I said, I don't think the game even deserves that. I don't care to think these things, but I'm really beginning to think that some people just don't like any criticism toward their favorite franchises at all. 7/10 isn't harsh any way I look at it.

Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate Nintendo's 2021?

Harmonie

I don't really know how to take this. For me personally, the first party output that I've been interested in has been very low this year. In fact, in the end, the surprise Animal Crossing DLC was the largest by far.

Objectively, it was a little better than I'd rate it personally, largely because of Metroid Dread. It's a title that I have absolutely no interest in, but I'm happy for Metroid fans. But first party-wise aside from Metroid and Animal Crossing DLC, this wasn't the strongest year for Nintendo. The Pokemon remakes are a major disappointment that I will not be purchasing. Aside from that... what is there? Wii U port in the beginning of the year, a mediocre Mario Golf, and Mario Party Superstars, which looks fun, but is overpriced for what it offers. WarioWare as well, that's okay. (Edit: I always forget about New Pokemon Snap. There's a reason. It was too much the same as the 1999 game and I mean, the 1999 game was already too simplistic. NPS might fun if it was like a $15 eShop game, but $60? please)

I think I'd give it somewhere around average (so maybe 4/10, 5/10, or 6/10). It's hard to know how to rate this year. Animal Crossing DLC and Metroid Dread were objectively fantastic, but aside from that there just isn't much. Is it fair to rate a year above average with only two standout releases? And the majority of the year was dry, and in terms of first party offerings, I only really played maybe two-three months out of the year (third party releases evened it out a bit better, but we're not talking about them here). And with that, it's pretty standard for the Switch, a lot of Switch's years have been like this.

To not end on such a low note, I will say that next year is shaping up to be very strong. Perhaps the Switch's finest. I hope it holds up.

Re: You Can Get Your Official 'Year In Review' Switch Stats Now

Harmonie

Most played game was Animal Crossing New Horizons with 102 hours. This is in great part due to the major November update and DLC, which skyrocketed my playtime.

#2 was Fenyx Rising and #3 was Pokemon Shield (because I got the DLC early on in the year). No surprises there.

My playtime on the Switch overall saw a huge decrease from last year. Last year I had 532 hours, this year 198 hours. May, June, August, and September I had 0 playtime. For some reason there was 1 hour in July, I don't remember what that was all about.

Re: Poll: What's The Worst Legend Of Zelda Game?

Harmonie

A number of them I haven't even played, so I don't feel like I can give a good answer. My least favorite 3D Zelda is Skyward Sword, and even then I think it has some neat things about it. 2D is where I haven't played most of them. I've pretty much only played ALTTP, the Oracle series and Four Swords Adventures (that was the one on the GCN right?).

Re: Video: The Wii Turns 15 This Year, And Here Are Our Memories

Harmonie

The only really good memories I have with the Wii was Mario Kart Wii. That was a very fun game to play with friends and online. I really liked the addition of bikes.

Otherwise, I didn't have a lot of great memories with the Wii. The vast majority of the games disappointed me versus the GCN and the forced motion control was simply not fun. The Wii will always go down in my mind as "innovation just to be innovation". That's a problem Nintendo regularly has. Games need to be fun, Nintendo. That's what matters. That's all that matters.

Re: Japanese Charts: Pokémon Diamond And Pearl Remakes Go Top In Tremendous Opening Weekend

@Anti-Matter Dragonite is being rude and I don't condone that, but I do want to point out that everyone has the right to express their opinion here, and you just need to find a way to quit letting it bother you. You can't be telling people to shut up because they're posting opinions that disagree with you, that is very rude. You have no such right to silence people here.

@Devlind Legends: Arceus looks great and I look forward to it. It is one way to look at it, that they outsourced D/P remakes to make something new themselves. But I don't want the quality of the mainline remake series to be sacrificed on the alter to make it happen. Out source it to someone who isn't going to make a DS-level 2.5D game, please.
